I have been ordering weekly deliveries for the past 2 months. The meals are very fresh and expiration dates are placed on the containers which is helpful. I am using this service to help me get back on track with healthy meals as I do not have the time for chopping and prepping....then I find myself starving and end up relying on fast food more often than I'd like. I purchase these meals for lunch as now I will be going back to the office as the pandemic slows down. I am not a vegetarian but I am really enjoying the variety of meals and I am thankful that I can cut back on animal based protein just because that's what I'm used to. This Vegan/ Vegetarian restaurant is a treat. After exploring a new world of possibilities from a plant based palate, you'll probably consider incorporating these new dishes into your lifestyle. The humble restaurant has a beautiful outside patio that welcome guests into a creative space. I highly recommend starting with 1 or 2 starters, you can't go wrong with ordering the Sushi or Buffalo Bites. My favorite entree and the reason that I sing their praises is for the Egg Plant Miso. My wife raved about this place. She would come here often when she was located in Tucson for a site location with her work. Any mention of Tucson and she'd bring up Tasteful Kitchen. Well, we came to Tucson on a weekend getaway and finally got to stop here - and I can see why she loves this place so much! The spring rolls with peanut sauce was so tasty, we literally liked the plate. Fortunately, we took it to our hotel as a carry out or that might have been embarrassing! The crusted cauliflower steak with potatoes tomatoes kale with its herb pesto and it's vegan beurre blanc sauce was the perfect blend of salty, savory, and bitters! I LOVE this place. First off, I had the sweetest server. I believe his name was Ted. Super kind and accommodating. He gave me some great recommendations. I wouldn't change anything about this meal. Dined here on a Saturday night with my husband and were seated without a reservation. The ambiance is lovely with smooth jazz in the background and dim lighting. The food was outstanding; be sure to order the eggplant dish! WOW, out of this world. We love and support any establishment who uses honest ingredients, and I love that this restaurant is owned by two sisters! The staff was nice, though a bit cold and dismissive in personality. Warning: Hungry Man on Board Could I make it from downtown Phx to downtown Tuc in less than one and a half hours for an early supper? I was up for the dare and I bet you'd like to know what my driving time was... ...but I plead the fifth. Yelp reviews led us to Tasteful Kitchen on 722 N Stone Ave. I would never expect to find this restaurant in that area so it was definitely a pleasant site. Walked in without reservation. Luckily a table was available (weeknight!) and we were seated within a few minutes by friendly smiling staff. Small place, small menu, small portions, big service. The business offers cooking demonstrations, catering, and dine-in or take-away meals. In a time where the trend for every new-american restaurant is to sell the same dishes, it was nice to see a bold diverse menu. I can say it was one of the best vegetarian meals I've eaten. I was so hungry and prepared to eat twice as much than I originally planned. The question was, would a four course meal ($25 pp) be enough? Nah, decided to order several separate dishes. Funny enough, though, the bill total came out to roughly the same cost per person because the Taro Root Croquettes ($8) and Mushroom Medallions ($10) I wanted were unfortunately unavailable. However in addition to the regular menu there were four other specials being offered. Tasteful Kitchen's website states: "We cook with ingredients as close as possible to their natural state with a minimum amount of processed foods." Well, I will testify to that. TESTIFYYYY! I ate yummy vegetarian and vegan food not overly-soy sauced or drowned in pungent vinegar flavors. Of course those flavors are in some of their dishes - if you want them - but I was happy to find my plate filled with food that tasted like the food it actually was. I felt the earth, the heart, and the health on my plate. That's real food. Appetizer: plate of yam wedges ($6) with curry dipping sauce. Decent size. Wedges were thick, crispy outside and melted when I bit into them (Yum! How did they do that?!) I could not stop eating. Curry sauce was just so-so, but if it was served spicy the level of tastefulness would be ten-fold. Salad: Green house salad. Small plate of fresh crisp veggies. Would prefer larger salad. Gotta. Get. Greens. Entree: Portobello mushroom with mushroom marsala sauce ($16) accompanied by smashed potatoes, cherry tomatoes, and sauteed greens. The patty-sized portobello was well flavored with homemade sauce. Greens were mixed with green beans and that gave me the crunch I look for in lively food. This dish could've done without the cooked tomatoes - I think red peppers would be much more tasteful. Entree: Spaghetti squash ($16) with tomato sauce and bean croquettes of herb pesto and cashew parmesan. Spaghetti squash all the way! It was laid atop arugula, and covered with tomato sauce that was absolutely delicious. I wish this was the food that I grew up on instead of flour made paste noodles. [Sorry, italian chefs, but pasta is not good for the body.] The three bean croquettes were just okay. They reminded me of falafel, but were weirdly different. Tasted soaked, but had crunchy texture in every bite. Dessert: Banana Cake ($7) topped with dark chocolate sauce, blueberries, and a mint leaf Wow! A vegan dessert, similar to a bread pudding. It was moist and warm and full of nanas. Chocolate was bittersweet. Kudos to cooks who can make vegan desserts without the dry and grainy outcome that curse so many vegan sweets. Dessert: Carrot Cake ($7) with carrots, pineapple, walnuts and cream cheese icing This was a fail for me. Cake? Yes. Carrot cake? Not! This cake was the same colour as the banana cake and as hard as I tried, I did not taste carrot, did not taste pineapple, and did not taste the cheese in the cream cheese icing. The walnuts were there, but they were chopped small and were easily forgettable. But of course I ate it. It's cake! Okay, so maybe it was only a partial fail. So, folk wanting good vegetarian fare in downtown Tucson, be a guest at the Tasteful Kitchen. Never mind any complaints about its size, slow service, and lack of options. For Valentine's Day, my best friend and I went on a Girl Date to The Vegetarian Supper Club at The Tasteful Kitchen. I was blown away. The Vegetarian Supper Club is a fixed menu, four course gourmet vegetarian meal (which can be made vegan easily) event. For $25/person you get a soup, salad, entree, and dessert. Included throughout are fresh, well-balanced vegetable fruit juices and herbal tea. The food is fantastic. The portions are perfect. Normally a four course meal would make me feel overstuffed, but here it was perfect. They do not serve alcohol, but we brought a bottle of wine to share. The walls at The Tasteful Kitchen are used as gallery space and we were entertained by lovely, non-intrusive live music. The space is small, warmly lit, and near several art/sculpture galleries. I am telling everyone about this place and look forward to taking friends there. There is also a tasty-looking ala carte menu that I'm excited to try. Oh! One last thing. I dont even know where to begin. First of all the food is incredible. The place and atmosphere is so welcoming and cheerful. the artwork in this place is just joyful and bright. I had the Raw Vegan Course wich came with a salad, a cold soup, a main dish, 2 freshly squeezed juices and a dessert. ALL VEGAN, ALL RAW! first I started off with a freshly squeezed watermelon-mint juice second came the delicious salad that was sweet and tangy and full of zest! next I was presented with a fabulous cold cucumber soup that came in a beautiful martini glass. for my main course, I had the best "sushi" I have ever had! it had a medley of veggies and "crab meat" (young coconut meat). it came with a side of asian slaw made with jicama and carrots. YUM! they perfectly paired it with carrot-ginger juice. by this time i was so satisfied and full that i couldn't eat my dessert and instead asked for a to go box! The Brussel sprout and smashed potato starter was superb, and the kimchi bbq cauliflower starter is a can't miss. The eggplant was perfectly prepared and the touch of miso paired with the green curry sauce was delicious. First to the FOOD: While very nicely presented, the only thing that I found very tasty at all were the soups. They were superb. The only problem there was that mine was a minuscule portion served in a small martini glass. The main course, while decent, was a pair of rather small enchiladas with very little flavor. My dining companion was served a main-course Asian salad that, while huge, was little more than a huge pile of shredded cabbage and other greens with a strangely tasteless dressing. Now to the SERVICE: it was clear from their tense, privileged and pretentious attitudes that the servers came from backgrounds unaccustomed to being of direct service to others. When we asked for some sort of bread or even cracker to accompany the huge pile of shredded cabbage the response was that they didn't have anything like that spoken with an imperious tone implying "how dare you even ask for that." She then brought out two of the teeny, tiny gray crackery things that came with the soup. When we asked that our water glasses be refilled (note that we had to ask) we were told, literally: "I am busy with something else right now." Incredibly, when we had waited for quite some time for our check in an atmosphere made tense by these very tense servers, we asked for the check and were given the SAME RESPONSE. I have been to vegetarian & vegan restaurants around the world and this place ranks on a food to price ratio as below average. For service, just hideous. Hence, only one star. read more

My friend and I split the street tacos for an appetizer, and they were out of this world with the a Jamaica taco shell, and cashews and a veggie assortments. The flavor couldn't have been better combined. My friend had the cauliflower steak on a beet juice puree - to die for, and the presentation was colorful and appetizing. Wow, what a cool place. They have really creative vegan and vegetarian meals. When I try to cook something vegan at home, I usually end up cooking pasta or rice with some sauce and veggies. Who knew vegan cuisine could be so interesting and sophisticated? We had zucchini soup and kale salad for starters, then cashew gnocchi with zucchini noodles and a ratatouille, and for dessert we tried the pumpkin spice cheese cake, orange almond cake, and chocolate covered dates. All of these were delicious and also really pretty to look at. The portions for the main course could be a bit bigger, though, for my taste. By the way, before your food arrives, instead of bread, they give you pickled veggies to snack on. Good idea! In general, their food is not only vegan/vegetarian but also seems healthy. This restaurant is a good choice if you want a lighter meal (except for the desserts!) The ambience is interesting. The main room is pretty small, with just ten or so small tables (there is a second room, though). The room is painted in warm colors with a lot of art on the walls. It is very quiet, just some quiet music in the background. It is all very elegant. Would be a good place for a romantic date, I think. In terms of prices, the main courses are all $16, an appetizer is included. If you want an additional soup, salad, or the like, it is another $6 or so. The desserts are all $7. You can get a four-course menu for $25. It is not exactly cheap, especially since the portions are on the smallish side, but it is definitely affordable. read more

I visited with a friend, and was so excited to hear that Tucson had a restaurant offering raw-vegan foods. We were a little disappointed by the flavor of the food, though the service was pleasant on the night we dined. We were a little thrown off as we walked in, because we got a strange lecture from one of the neighboring businesses whose lot we parked in as instructed...though The Tasteful Kitchen isn't supposed to use it? Weird, maybe double check about only using the gravel lot when dining. We ordered the carrot soup which was really fantastic! It was served with a side of almond crackers (very cheddary from the nutritional yeast). The portion was small (but that's the reality of raw food dining, so can't fault them for that). The side crackers were itty bitty in size, and we wished there were more, plus maybe some garnish like cilantro? We ordered the raw 'tacos' which were: 2 pieces small collard leaves, with the thick stem, filled with sunflower seed 'pate.' The pate was exactly this: sunflower seeds, dill (why?), very little salt, barely a hint of cumin. It was very crumbly and lacked chipotle or sundered tomatoes...a very simple addition of spices and salt would have made it much better. It was topped by a lot of cabbage and nothing else. No avocado, no mock-sour cream, no peppers, nothing exciting :( It was served with a tiny cup of salsa, which tasted like it came from a jar and was only enough for one of the tacos. Other than the flavor falling short, the table next to us ordered the same entrees, but received a much larger portion. It felt like they were running out of ingredients and so we got shorted. For two soups and two entrees, no desserts or drinks, our check was $45 including a tip. I see that they receive great reviews about their vegetarian cooked meals, so maybe that's just their forte? I do hope their raw selection improves asap, and moves to better represent to Tucson, how awesome raw vegan can be. If you are a die-hard vegan, their use of dairy and egg might be something you want to consider...though my friend and I didn't mind as long as it wasn't in our meal specifically. If I go back, it will be for the carrot avocado soup to-go. read more

My coworker and I are in Tucson for work. We visited this restaurant last night based on yelp's review. Few things I would like to share based our experience: 1. Environment: sitting area was not very big and A/C certainly was not working too well. Yesterday was almost 100 degrees and not much difference between inside and outside. 2. Service: polite but very slow. 3. Price: $20 for main plate (including a side of house salad or a bowl of soup). If you use credit card to pay, extra 3% will be charged as well. So by the time we walk out, we paid over $25 for a dish. 4. Taste of food: I'm Asian. The food has mainly Thai spice/curry taste, at least the dish I ordered. Both my coworker and I eat all kinds of Asian food all the time. But somehow something in their food (dressing/spice) disagreed with our both stomach. 5. Food portion: my coworker had pasta and it was their chef special. Her food was a lot. I ordered cauliflower steak, for lady it's fine; for a guy, it won't be enough. We had an exquisite dinner experience from start to finish. Everything we ordered was beautiful and delicious. DO make a reservation, we did have to wait about half an hour to be seated on a weekday. They don't serve alcohol, but you can BYOB for a corkage fee of $5. They do have some refreshing teas and fresh fruit mocktails though! I liked my strawberry fruit mocktail-- it was light, spritzy and just tasted natural with no extra junk. I think their menu rotates because some of the items I saw in the pictures were not on the menu. For food, we started off with the Brussel Spouts & Potatoes. The brussel sprouts were hands-down the tastiest, most perfectly cooked brussel sprouts I've ever had. We garbled them up in seconds. All the main courses are $18 with a choice of either their soup of the day or the house salad. The soup of the day was tortilla soup which was very nicely flavored and had some creative twists such as having cous cous in it. The house salad was fresh, above average for a house salad. I couldn't decide between the Miso Eggplant and the Mushroom Wellington, so we ordered both! DO absolutely order the Miso Eggplant. I do not say this lightly--- this is was on the best dishes we've had in Tucson. The Eggplant-- oh goodness I don't even know how they get it this way-- are thick cuts, lightly crisp on the outside, perfectly soft and textured on the inside without being overly oily as eggplant can often be prepared. The hint of Miso flavor is absolutely delectable. It comes atop a black rice soaked in coconut cream which is utterly amazing and addictive. There is a bed of cabbage surrounding the dish covered with a light green curry. The Mushroom Wellington was also good-- what wrapped in a crisp pastry shell isnt?? It was tasty, but I will say didn't have the wow-factor that the Miso Eggplant did. We were far too full for dessert, but they have an array of cakes, cheescakes, etc. Wonderful, attentive and friendly service. The place itself is interesting- appears to maybe used to be a house- cozy and quaint but at the same time with a slightly upscale vibe. MGJ (mean green juice) ICE CREAM???!!! When I heard Isabella's Ice Cream had made MGJ for The Tasteful Kitchen, I made a bee line to them. To bad I was busy then they aren't open Mondays and Tuesdays so, yesterday was my first chance to enjoy. Everything was so delicious. I had quite a bit of food but wasn't too full for the ice cream. I had the mango butternut raw foods soup, the raw foods veggie burger with a salad and spicy sweet potato/carrot fries. This may actually be the diet for me. My friend took me to this restaurant last night. I'm a vegetarian from Phoenix. It was the cutest little home restaurant. Owned by sisters. One sister is a chef. The other is the hostess. The mom makes the desserts. It's a wonderful tasty flavorful restaurant that I highly recommend and wish they lived and had the restaurant to Phoenix. There are some funny little quirky parts about it when we got to the restaurant. We had reservations for 815. And the waiter came up and asked us what we wanted but then proceeded to say they've been so busy today he has his list specials and we were excited about the specials but then all the specials were gone and a lot of things on the menu were already ordered. But it didn't matter because what was still left to order was delicious highly recommend the spring rolls, the pasta entrée, and the mushroom entrée, it's BYOB with a seven dollar Cork charge. I opted for the vegan cheddar soup which was creamy and rich - I could have just had a big bowl of the soup and been happy. For the main I had the miso eggplant which was prepared in a way I'd never seen before. It came in 3 discs over an inch tall, covered in a gooey miso sauce. The eggplant had a soft crust but a firm interior that was cooked through without being mushy; I felt like the consistency was more like swordfish than eggplant. I do love the Tasteful Kitchen, but the last few times I've been there I found myself wishing they had more of a changing menu. On the other hand, everything I have had has been excellent, and the ambiance makes it more romantic than most other vegetarian places. It's GREAT for a date. I think people will inevitably compare it to Food for Ascension, which, in my opinion, is the superior establishment, but the intimacy and presentation (and price) make The Tasteful Kitchen a real niche-restaurant. If I were single, this would be where I took a first or second date; now it's the kind of place my beloved and I go to for special evenings together. I can't really put my finger on why it's so lovely. The sound comes from a little iPod docking station. The decor isn't spectacular. Food for Ascension has a better menu. But there's just something upscale and romantic about it that I really don't find at other vegetarian places, and it has a special something I haven't found anywhere else. Tasteful Kitchen definitely deserves to be supported, and they would have a solid five-star rating if their menu, which is quite innovative as it is, changed just a little more. A couple of times I've asked if the chef could do something special and was totally blown away, but a couple of other times they've just offered a variation on a standard menu item. While certainly good, it wasn't spectacular (like Food for Ascension consistently seems to be). Still, though, that certain "je ne sais quoi" this place has makes it totally worthwhile, and a great addition to Tucson's burgeoning veg cuisine scene. read more

We've heard a lot of good things about this place; the last time we went in, the door was open but we were told the restaurant was closed (it was at least an hour before the time the website said they would close) so we were happy to be seated. The restaurant is small, very intimate. Apparently, the owners have taken some of the Yelp reviews to heart, because our water glasses were refilled constantly, which was nice. I'm not currently a vegetarian, but I was for a long time (20 years) so I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. I didn't have really high hopes because I'm not a huge fan of raw foods and similar cuisines, but i must say, after two months of eating pretty strictly primal, this was a nice and healthy change of pace. We started with a cup of the hot soup, which I think was squash and cauliflower. It was warm and delicious, with a wonderful roasted undertone. For appetizer, we chose the quesadillas, which we found crispy and filling. There was a good balance of cheese to beans. Could have used a bit more avocado and salsa to go with it, but this was our favorite part of the meal. Salads were nice, a good range of greens, perfectly dressed with a light and tangy dressing. I liked the sunflower seeds. I ordered the macrobiotic plate. The adzuki croquettes were pretty good: light and well-cooked (with some tendency to fall apart due to their lightness) and flavorfull. They came on a bed of vegetables--something green like kale and something crunchy like bok choy. I should really bother to read the menu more carefully. There were some roasted sweet potatoes that were perfectly cooked but could have used some (any) seasoning. There was some sunflower-based sauce on the croquette and another squash (I think) based coulis on the plate, both of which added a lot of flavor. While the food was good overall, you really have to be wild about vegetables, I think. My fiance had the special, lasagna. It was filling and cheesy but there was something strangely starchy/mealy about the noodles and overall we found it a bit bland. With the soup, appetizer, and salad, both of us were really full and unable to finish our entrees. The waitress tried to convince us to go for dessert but we didn't want any. This is a good place to eat, if you are a passionate vegetarian. I wouldn't bring someone who wasn't really into vegetarian/vegan/raw food to this place. They put a lot of effort into what they do, but what they do is definitely not for everyone. read more

Last evening was my first experience at the Tasteful Kitchen. My brother and his wife are vegetarians and we're visiting from LOS Angeles. I asked a friend for a recommendation and was told to try the food here.All I can say is that it was an amazing meal from start to finish. Loved this place! My fiance is vegetarian, so we're always on the lookout for places that have lots of veggie options. When we saw the Living Social coupon for The Tasteful Kitchen, we were very excited to try it out, and we weren't disappointed! We decided to get one Raw Vegan Course and one Vegetarian course. Each came with juices, soup, salad, an entree, and a dessert. We were both super impressed with everything -- great juices, a very yummy salad, good soups, amazing entrees, and delicious desserts. My favorite was probably the veggie entree -- portabello mushrooms with a mushroom gravy, asparagus, and a sweet potato mash! Delicious! Apparently, they change their dish of the day pretty frequently, so we're looking forward to going back and trying something new next time. Highly recommended! read more
