I'd give this place a solid 3 stars overall. The decor and ambiance are easily the highlight--definitely 5-star vibes. It has a really inviting tavern feel that makes you want to sit, relax, and stay awhile. The menu offers a decent variety of sandwiches, salads, appetizers, and a few entrée options. One thing that stood out was the lavosh (basically a thin-crust pizza), where you can choose up to four toppings. The protein options included bacon, ham, chicken, shrimp, and shredded beef, though the vegetable selection was a bit limited. Service started off strong--friendly and attentive--but tapered off and became pretty average as the meal went on. As for the food, it was just okay. The Cajun chicken pasta was creamy and satisfying, but it lacked the spice you'd expect from a Cajun dish. The cheese bread was very soft, and that same bread was used for the prime rib melt. Unfortunately, it didn't hold up well--it came across as doughy and a bit mushy, and overall lacked flavor. Disclaimer: Rarely give 5 stars as there is always room for improvement That being said...I've lived in VV for almost 5 years and have been eating at Tavern from the beginning. I will say there was a timeframe where the food was inconsistent back in 2021/22 and I wasn't coming here, but the past few times I've been lately, the food quality and consistency has been much better. Tavern is associated with the Tavern Hotel and used to be apart of the Haunted Group, not sure if they still are, but if you're visiting I would suggest staying at the hotel because they have amazing deals with several of the restaurants in Old Town Cottonwood, including Nic's and Crema. I ate yesterday during Happy Hour - a really nice opportunity to try different food options and honestly well-priced cocktails. I started with the HH old fashioned which was a nice change from beer or wine. The bar was packed with tourists and regulars alike, which is always a good sign. For food I opted for the soup, salad, bread combo. The French onion soup is one of the better ones I've had. And it's hard to mess up Caesar salad. But it's the entire loaf of garlicky bread that wins this combo! The herbed butter is absolutely to die for. In the future I'll ask for no croutons and honestly no bread in the soup and just rely on the amazing bread loaf for my carbs lol! I've had several dishes and absolutely love the beef stroganoff which is enough for two meals; the lavosh is worthy for sharing; fish sandwich is a good choice, and the meatloaf sandwich is amazing....etc. The menu is pretty vast, so there is something for everyone. The atmosphere is upscale pub with outdoor seating and a dog-friendly heated patio. Definitely I would recommend Tavern as one of the better restaurants in Cottonwood and the location can't be beat. We were here on a Tuesday in late May at about 6pm. We really enjoyed our server, Micky and enjoyed a quick chat with the Manager. We had the meatloaf and the beef stroganoff. Both were solid choices, but an awful lot of food for two seniors staying at the Tavern Hotel. We enjoyed the crisp side salads with our meals. The atmosphere was great. it had a very neat ambiance... kinda fancy, kinda not. the lounge seating style is neat. they sit a bit far back from the table, so plan on sitting up at the end of your leather couch while eating and leaning back relaxing while having your drinks. I'm ok with this type of seating but still wish i didn't have to sure up so far to eat. Every meal at our table of 8 was good. I got the appetizer wings and they were very crispy and flavorful. I ordered a side salad as well and it was great. My husband ordered the fish and chips and he liked it.. he said the coleslaw was ok and the fries weren't hot but all over a good meal. my friends ordered and shares the prime rib dinner and it was a decent size to share. Went to Tavern Grill last night for a take-out order. They were busy and the bartender was swamped. Unfortunately that is where take-out orders are placed. So, the lone bartender is expected to make drinks for the entire restaurant plus take orders for the 12 diners who sit at the bar. Worst.Experience.Ever. Took 30 minutes from the time I ordered until the food was ready. Fries were barely warm, the fish (fish n' chips) were not hand-breaded but fresh from the freezer. Got half-way to the parking lot to realize they forgot to include plastic utensils so had to return to the restaurant. We had family in town for a memorial in Sedona and decided to do some wine tasting in Cottonwood. After the first tasting folks were getting hungry so we decided to go to The Tavern Grille. My family can be pretty tough to please when it comes to food, and they were all raving about the experience when we left - even my uncle who is a chef said the food was wonderful! We loved the dark wood decor and were impressed by the amount of seating available for a smaller restaurant. We had a larger party with 9 people and they sat us right away. We were pleasantly surprised that there was no wait at 1p on a Friday. Our waitress was fabulous and took drink orders quickly which ranged from soda to wine to beer. Great selection across all of these, and I must say the prosecco punch that I ordered was much better than I expected! Our food came out rather quickly which was also surprising based on our group size. The restaurant was pretty full as well. Within our group we had a few salads, chicken tenders, wings (they were fantastic), sliders (prime rib and regular), veggie sandwich, and a philly cheesesteak. Everything was a larger portion and full of flavor. My aunt said the sliders were some of the best she's ever had, and coming from her that says a lot! I personally ordered the chicken tenders, and while I expected to not be super full as they didn't come with fries, I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the 4 tenders served! The prices were a bit higher than what I'm used to for a tavern restaurant, however compared to other restaurants in the area I guess it was pretty on par. Flaky and devoid of the usual gristle, it was melt in your mouth on rye. Oh, and the pickles. Come for the mojitos, stay for the wavy pickles. Fresh and chilled just like I like em. Finished everything of my with the massive peach cobbler a la mode. The mode of this dessert was full in baked sugar rush. Huge chunks of bursting with flavor peach slices, their best taking down the cabbage sized scoop of ice cream...all drizzle with swaths of smacky caramel. My fuel gauge reads "F". They do have some outdoor seating and quite a few tables inside and a bar where you can sit and have a drink. Definitely would recommend coming here!!! read more

The meatloaf is described and sounds way better than it is. It was mushy, smothered in gravy and really salty. It sat like a rock in my stomach for the rest of the day. Ate here 3 of the four nights we visited this adorable town, mainly because my mom couldn't get enough of their grilled veggie sandwich. I tried the Filet Cobb Salad which was pretty tasty, and the 8oz sirloin, but by far my favorite thing there was the ginger carrot soup. It came with the sirloin and I had absolutely zero hope for this because I generally hate cooked carrots and ginger just sounded like it was going to be a bad time, but the other options were chili and French onion soup, which I wasn't up for. That ginger carrot soup was a surprise hit, so much so we went a second time just to order it. On its own it's served with a fresh baked little roll that absolutely melts when you tear it. It's so. Good. The staff members at this place are very friendly and service is quick, and the cozy booths on the inside make conversation easy even if the place is packed. The turkey cranberry. All in all, it was a good sandwich, but the disappointing thing was possibly on me. I read on the menu that it was "fresh sliced turkey," and I assumed it to be fresh sliced, roasted turkey, like in-house kind of turkey. It was very clearly deli turkey. Missed expectations on my part. And it certainly called into question the $16 price tag. But a good sandwich nonetheless. I could have asked, and I didn't. We went for lunch around 1:30 pm on a Tuesday. While most of the town was dead quiet the restaurant was busy and hopping! The bar was mostly full, but we as a party of two got seated right away. My husband ordered a side salad and got the strawberry spinach salad. It did come without dressing which I thought was interesting, but it was tasty nonetheless. He ordered the stuffed meatloaf and it came with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts on the side. Food was great, service was great especially on water during a hot summer day. So we just had our 20th anniversary so my wife and I have been treating ourself to a nice weekend. This is one of the places on our list. We live a little over 3 hours from here but we knew this is one of the places what we had to eat at. We got here, literally got the front space, meant to be. They had a lunch special jalapeño burger that was to die for. If we were heading straight home, I would have ordered one to go. What a great place to eat. My wife and I enjoyed two wonderful meals here. The place is nicely decorated and spacious. The interior is decorated in beautiful wood and you can watch your meal being prepared behind the glass-walled kitchen. There's a nice three-sided bar lined by booths along the walls. The owner, a cool gent named Max, is constantly checking to see if all patrons are happy. This is also a practice during the entire day, which shows the commitment that Management has to their Customers. Portions are delicious and very generous. Prices are in line with servings and quality. The kitchen staff puts their own twist on several dishes, making them unique and tasty.
