Other than that, not much to say positive about our dinner. My husband ordered the rib eye..It's $45 and he said it was the worst steak he ever had! No way it was rib eye...some cheaper, tougher cut. I got the seared ahi (tuna) sandwich..The fish didn't taste fresh and it was not hot. The fries were equally bad. Our family got the seafood ravioli and did not finish it..and the chicken wings, which were also meh...I'm so over eating out, which is why we so rarely do!! Going up to the North Western side of the island you can find solitude yet still have the creature comforts that mainlanders come to expect. Out of the 7 main restaurants we ate The Terrace was the Schizzle Dizzle. I was by far the best food experience we had on the island. And we went to all the other main restaurants, which I won't name, and not bet they were bad in anyway it's just the terrace stood out amongst all of them. From the second we walked in, Miguel greeted us with a smile. Quick to seat us at the bar (per our request). Then Shay, our bartender greeted us- personable and friendly. This was my second time to The Terrace. We were here a year and a half ago. The dinner was delicious and service was good. Our visit today, service was amazing, our waiter was engaged and helpful, but the food was mid at best. I had the Mushroom ravioli with avocado, mac nut pesto and added chicken. I enjoy a good avocado and thought this was different, but I'll try it. I have to say the avocado pesto was not flavorful and too thick. Granted it is a pesto, but I didn't taste any olive oil or acidity. Sorry to say not my favorite. Then the added chicken was dry and I'm pretty sure out of a can. For this place to be a nice sit down, make a reservation kind of place I was not impressed with my dinner. My daughter's dinner was the Teriyaki chicken with rice and it looked ok. She enjoyed it. I have to close with a high note. We made a reservation and we showed up early. They sat us down quickly and with a view of the mountains. We had one of the best spots, so thank you to the Terrace employees!! Then we ordered 2 "virgin" Pina coladas and they were delicious!!! So I end with make the reservation and don't try the Mushroom ravioli and try something else (hopefully the other food is delicious and well made), because the service was amazing and the atmosphere was wonderful! Ordinary tasting. We had to ask for salt. My husband ordered the salmon bowl. He liked it but didn't rave about it. I ordered the home made veggie burger. It was uncooked mush and I returned it. After my husband finished his meal I was still waiting for a replacement. I complained and the server told me it took a long time to cook the burger. Really!!! I canceled my order. I ordered a Pina Colada. it wasn't a drink. It was a thick smoothie. Overall it was a frustrating and underwhelming dining experience and we will not be coming back. Bummer. The good first. Good ambiance. Upstairs overlooking the main drag in Hanalei. Cozy and open air feel. The rest... The food was lackluster. Bland. We had the crab cakes. I'm not trying to throw shade, but they had that premade Sysco quality that says here's something to put on your menu that says crab cakes. The accompanying sauce, a sweet and spicy sauce, didn't complement the unseasoned and pasty filled crunch patties either. In fact the whole menu didn't really work as a whole. It was like they had an entrees from several different restaurants. One Italian dish, fish and chips, a steak, a seafood curry. Let's talk about the curry. Absolutely no salt in the dish. Like not just under seasoned, like NO SALT AT ALL. It made me wonder if the tough shrimp and hammered mahi were fresh or frozen. I didn't even attempt to eat the mussels out of respect for my health. It seems that so little care and thought had been put into the food and the menu as a whole. The service was ok if a bit inattentive. All and all, we were super disappointed and couldn't understand the high ratings. I wouldn't recommend coming here. the overall experience of dining here was the best we've had in hanalei in the time we've stayed here. the restaurant has a nice open interior and beautiful foliage surrounding the tables. there's an open outdoors looking upon the remainder of hanalei. food came at a reasonable time, perhaps 15 minutes after we ordered. the waiters are very attentive. on to the important things: we ordered the beef skewers, calamari, mussels, and seafood linguine. everything was good. the skewers were okay, as they were marinated perfectly but were not as tender as i'd hoped. the seafood linguine was exceptional -- potentially the best out of what we ordered. mussels were good but didn't have as many portions as we would have hoped. finally, happy hour deals were crazy. the pina collada had a nice balanced flavor: not too sweet, not too bland. it captured the flavors of pineapple well. the wine was alright, but a glass for $6 rightfully warrants zero complaints. if you're staying in hanalei in kauai, you would thoroughly enjoy dining here. give it a try! read more
