I've eaten there many times and some of their dishes are excellent and a really good deal. I can't believe that some reviewer actually griped about the price. Visited with my mother, my brother, and his family and thought everything was excellent. We especially liked the curries. My brother had the spicy ocean curry. My sister-in-law had the red curry with shrimp, and I had the green curry with tofu. We all agreed these were the best curries we ever had. read more

I eat here at least two to three times every time I visit Brimfield, which is three times a year, so a lot! I always order the sampler platter and the green pork curry. When we went into the restaurant we were the only couple there it was one couple just finishing up. After we ordered two other couples came in and were served their meals. We still haven't gotten our food yet. When we asked the waitress she apologized and offered to extend the employee discount to us. This made us decide to stay when we really wanted to leave. When the meal finally came only my husband's food came out. I was still waiting. Angry and hungry for another 5 minutes or 10 even. Now let's talk about the bill everything was double price not employee discount. Double. I gave this place a shot and regretted it as soon as my wife walked in for dinner. The main entrance brings you through a dark corridor by the bathrooms into the main room. It smelled really bad but my wife told me it could be the smell of bamboo shoots. The place overall looked like it wasn't cleaned much and needed renovations. At one point, an employee came in the front door, rolling a 55 gallon trash barrels through the main room and into the kitchen, which did nothing for the appetite. Just got back from dinner at Thai Place. I'm in the area for business and while my all time favorite restaurant is in Worcester, I didn't feel like making the trip. Yelp reviews led me to the Thai Place. First my GPS led me in to the depths of Sturbridge Village (I think), at night, which was scary. But then I found it. Decor was fine and it was somewhat busy for a Tuesday night. The menu is large and after a ton of thought I went simple. House salad and pad thai. The house salad was odd. Lettuce, tomato, onion, hard boiled egg, and pineapple with a peanut dressing. It was just OK and then I found a bug on my lettuce. Next. The Pad Thai was tasty but I didn't care for the consistency of the chicken or the shrimp. The chicken was rubbery and the shrimp just didn't taste fresh so I picked around the protein and ate all the noodles. The noodles were tasty. No dessert and no wine (although it was very reasonable). Overall it was OK, not sure I'd go back. read more

Just had a lazy weekend capping meal with my girlfriend before we parted back to our home life grind... Our 1st Date one-year anniversary couldn't have been better. Friendly, and attentive staff... quiet and inviting ambiance. Ate at the little bar, had the House Sampler Platter for am app, and Lemon Grass Chicken and Bankok Beef for meals. Great presentation... great flavor... and their unsweetened iced tea was even different and very refreshing. Great options without noodles and starches for low, to no carb dieters... lot of protein with vegetables meal options. 4 star for now... updating to a 5 star if my next experience is equally as enjoyable! read more

I lived in Thailand and so my standards are pretty high. That being said, I've had great Thai food in the States but this place was not one of them. Been here twice and both times disappointed. In a city like Boston or Providence, this restaurant would get 3 stars. In Sturbridge (not exactly a food mecca), it's 4 stars. We tried an array of foods as takeout. We loved that the food wasn't greasy, was still very hot after getting it home 20 minutes later, and that everything we ordered had a unique flavor profile (unlike most Asian restaurants around). I was pleased to see one of my favorite Thai dishes - Duck Choo Chee. At a great Thai restaurant, the roasted duck in Duck Choo Chee is still crispy - having been added to hot curry veggies at the last moment to ensure some delicious crispyness. This was not the case as the skin was quite soggy. That said, I can live with that seeing as I can get Thai duck at all within 20 minutes of Charlton. Everything else was superb. A minor caution to anyone ordering fried rice: this isn't the fried rice you get a place like the Kahula, Wind Tikki, or whatever American Chinese Food place you might be used to. The rice here is delicious but not the salty greasy mess you're probably used to. The Beef Fried Rice comes with big slices of tender beef! I was generally impressed by Thai Place and I'm sure we'll be back. The restaurant is beautiful and your lady will want to stop by the fragrant (ie: smelly) hand creme and body lotion place that it shares a building with. read more

Either they were very short staffed or I don't know what but it took forever for our check no one checked in on us to see how we enjoyed the food and when I ordered fried ice cream I got fried bananas instead. It is impressive how what seems like a small place can offer a wide variety of menu items. My daughter got her stand by Pad Thai and she rates it in the top ten she's ever had. My wife got a veggie curry and she was impressed how they used squash. Myself, I had duck chee choo. Which was sliced fried duck, with pineapple, veggies and a spicy red curry sauce. Mmmmm. I was only in town 6 days and I ate here twice. Very good and light sauces. I had the cashew chicken which was full of good white meat chicken and hugh chunks of fresh mushrooms and cashews. The next time I had the mango chicken which was also delicious. I tried the paradise beef as an appetizer. It was tasty, but a little chewy for me. We got takeout last night from the Thai Place. It's not the first time that we get takeout to find that when we get home, part of our order is missing. Last night it was the "peanut sauce on the side" for the veggie Rama. Without the peanut sauce, its just boring steamed vegetables. I wanted to bring the order back but its a half hour round trip and the rest of the order would have been cold. The food here overall is not what it used to be a few years ago. Stopped in to an empty place due to snowy night and was not disappointed! lovely Ocean curry, fresh perfectly cooked seafood, nicely spiced, and served with a big smile and pleasant conversation. Stopped in to Thai Place in Sturbridge on way home from Brimfield, and boy, am I glad! Had the Thai curry squash with chicken, and in a word: delish!!! It arrived piping hot and so stayed good and hot throughout my dinner. Nice and spicy, too, which I like. Had started with the tom yum seafood soup, which was aces as well. Decide to update my rating to 4 stars. I wouldn't rate it that high at home, but in Charlton, it's the best restaurant I've discovered which accommodates vegans. Also, on my most recent visit to Thai Place, I learned that the fresh vegetable rolls could be ordered with peanut sauce in place of the sweet chili sauce. read more

Thai Place gets 4 out of 5 for being the only Asian style restaurant in Sturbridge to actually use fresh ingredients in their dishes. The food isn't super greasy. Fried dishes are fried lightly and seasoned well. Spicy stuff can get spicy if you ask for more to be added or on the side. One thing to note. This isn't totally a true 100% purest Thai restaurant, but more American inspired Thai food. You can get take out or sit in. The dinning room is quirky in a good way. Plenty of parking. Service is friendly, and the food is always tasty. Compared to most big city Thai places, their prices are really affordable. Thai Place in Sturbridge is a great place to satisfy the "Chinese Food" craving while getting something fresher, cheaper, and while mixing it up a bit. read more

Being from Seattle, I wasn't expecting to be impressed with this restaurant. I took the advice from a fellow Yelper and went for the Pad Thai. This was a major risk, as I served in one of the top restaurants in the US when I was in college and it was a southeast Asian restaurant with killer Pad Thai. Surprisingly, it wasn't the worst I've ever had. A place in Seattle takes the cake on that one, followed closely by the time I tried to make my own at home. The Pad Thai at Thai Place comes out looking awful. I thought they forgot to put any sauce on it. It looked like boiled noodles with chicken on top. It did have a little bit of flavor on it though. Stomachable, and actually decent when I added peanut sauce to the dish. My wife's curry squash was damn spicy for being 1 star. There wasn't much curry "sauce" in the dish either. More like a pile of veggies (she didn't order any meat) with some sauce on them. The owner seems to hire only cute girls, because there was no shortage of them working there. In conclusion, I was surprised with the quality of this thai food. Not because it was great, but because it was as good as it was being on the east coast, which doesn't have near the Asian influence as the west coast does. I recommend this place to anyone craving Thai food, even of you're from the west coast. You will enjoy it. read more

I placed a take out order for spicy ocean. The meal did not include the fish and the two scallops that came with the meal were under cooked. The shrimp and vegetables were good. I phoned the restaurant and was informed that the scallops this time of year break apart - they were not broken apart, they were under cooked. The restaurant told me they would not issue a refund. I was not asking for a refund. I just wanted the full meal that I paid for. Instead of offering a new meal the restaurant told me I could come pick up the piece of fish that was missing. I place take out orders from the Thai place often. Very surprised they chose to resolve a bad meal this way. I will not be going back. read more

Live in Sturbridge and take out about 3 times per month. The food is excellent, one of our go to places for takeout. Have never eaten in, so cannot comment on wait staff. I would love to see them locate to a nicer location. I do not feel their current location does the quality of the food justice. Side entry way has a musty smell, which may turn away some. It was just ok. Ordered take out so I can't comment on the service. Got pad thai, cashew chicken, and beef satay. The pad thai didn't seem to have any sauce on it at all. I had chili garlic paste in the fridge so a put a healthy dose of that on it and it helped. The cashew chicken was alright, but the sauce needed more flavor. Beef satay was a little chewy. I probably wouldn't go back unless I was really craving mediocre thai food. I was missing the flavor and spice you usually get with thai food. read more

I have eaten here many times. It is always pretty quiet when I am there, but I can see where it could be loud and cramped during the weekend dinner rush, but I have never encountered it. The food is fantastic and the prices are even better. I usually get the chicken satay and the pad thai. I really should try some of the other dishes that sound good, but they make the best pad thai I have every had. I love the peanut sauce and wish I had the recipe because the one I made was not as good. The homemade ice cream is a bit weird, but in a good way. I didn't care for the tea, but I am really really picky about tea. They have a decent wine list too. read more

I love this restaurant. I've ordered in for lunch and had take out for dinner. The food was Fabulous!! Fresh, fresh, fresh... everything can be made to order. My lunch partner didn't want her food as salty so they made it that way. Everything is made from scratch. The staff is pleasant and the place was clean. Highly recommend it for lunch or dinner. Looking for something good and spicy to keep up with my burnt out taste buds from a garden full if habaneros this year. Heard that there was a great Thai restaurant right down the road that does some great hot dishes. Was told you could order 1-5 stars of heat in your dish and that normal people could only handle 2 stars. I tried the Spicy Noodle with 3 stars last week. Was great. Sweet and quite spicy, fresh veggies and great noodles with chicken. But really didn't challenge my spice tastes. Tried the 4 star Spicy Noodles today. Wow! Quite a step up in heat. Ate the whole dish on the ride home without a sip to drink but if I took a breath while taking a bite I couldn't stop coughing and I had to keep the windows open so Laura and the kids could breathe. Am gonna try the 5 star on Tuesday. Great spicy food with great flavor. read more
