Great Place for Lunch. My son-in-law invited us to dinner for my daughters birthday. What a disappointment. Started with cokes being mostly seltzer. Had to wait till fixed machine. Waited 45 minutes for food which came out cold. The mashed potatoes were cold, the bernaise sauce was cold, cheese on asparagus was hard, and her steak was rare, when she asked for well done. Yes, they took it back to cook more..Outside was burnt and inside still red. The lobster which was $15.49 to be added was the size of a shrimp. To top it off, she ordered a "special drink" while we ate and she waited for her dinner - the glass had a chip on the rim and she was afraid there was glass in it. Oh well, dinner didn't go as planned. Yes, they did compensate on the check but it ruined a special night out. read more

Been coming to this restaurant for 30 years and for the most part it was enjoyable. However, tonight was an awful experience. Specifically, the service at the bar was terrible. The bartenders were more intent on serving their "regulars" rather than helping us. They virtually ignored us and when we were served, our orders were wrong. We could not even get anyone to take our credit card for the bill , never mind our dessert orders. Left cash for the bill with the intent never to return again. How can The Tale get any less than 5 stars? It has bountiful provenance and colorful history back to the Black Barts and Foolish Fox days. Prices are fair. Food is on point for the type of establishment. Drinks are generous pours. The Long Island Iced Teas taste the same as ever (wonderful). The burgers are made with huge fresh meat patties, and cooked to perfection. I visit The Tale for a Chedderburger and several Long Islands whenever I'm in the area, and have since 1977. Food and service were great! We came late, around 10:30 on a Thursday night. Surprised how busy it was. Leigh was our server and she was attentive and nice. We started off with the mozzarella sticks. Piping hot and yummy. The tomato sauce was nice and garlicky. I loved my burger and I asked for medium rare which was cooked perfectly! Probably one of the best burgers I've had in years!! The steak fries were crispy! My husband had the scallops with lobster risotto and it was outstanding!! The decor, and cleanliness, eh! Needs updating. If I were the owners, I would keep the bar area as is. Locals love it. The dining area needs a major overhaul. Really, a pic of dogs showing their catch of dead pheasants? A Stewarts Root Beer sign?? What a shame. I took my kids here for a birthday dinner. I so regret my choice. I ordered a rack of lamb special! The meat was grey at best the flavor was so off. I specifically asked if the rice was home cooked as I cook quite well... it tasted of chalk. My son ordered ahi tube rare it came crispy over cooked and with a load of "mush" as garnish. My daughter ordered flames and I wish I took of picture of what they present because it was horrendous. French onion soup did not have ONE single onion in it! Absolutely horrible experience. The staff was very kind. Slow at best took us an hour or so to eat with three tables in the entire establishment. Then after I complain about my food I'm told "we'll kitchens closed now so we can't fix it for you" and they didn't even attempt to take it off the bill. Let me start by saying that the food was very very good. The problem is their heating system. Apparently the bar side gets much to hot, so they lower the heat and absolutely FREEZE out the customers on the restaurant side. They said that it's an old building and there is nothing they can do! How about this? Purchase some space heaters and warm up the people keeping your business open, just as much as your bar crowd is. This place makes enough money to figure out how to add heat to the restaurant side. It's obvious they've not spent a penny in upgrades in decor, so how about some heat? Also, I ordered a hamburger. Sometimes I want the bun, sometimes I don't. I always take anything I do not eat home. I usually feed it to the birds. I decided last night, that I didn't want to eat the bun, so I set it aside on another dish. The server decided to chastise me by saying, "next time just say that you don't want a bun". Ummmm, ty but I hadn't decided at the time of my order if I wanted it. Sometimes I eat a top or a bottom. I didn't think I was required to justify my eating preferences to the help. A mainstay and popular well established restaurant and bar in this area. Pros are the daily specials which can attract a crowd. I really liked specialty cocktails like cucumber martini. Cons a bit overpriced on some items. I had the french dip. I've been ordering this at many other places and this ranked on the lower side in terms of size and bread. My GF and I each had a sandwich and drink which came to $70 without tip. Ummm??? I think they charged alot to substitute fries for veggies. What a complete disappointment, on many levels. We've now tried the place twice and I have to say, both times the place fell completely flat for me. Seriously, I feel like freakin Gordon Ramsay on Kitchen Nightmares: while I've no idea what goes on in the kitchen, there's just some unacceptable things here. We ordered their 'crab dip', which advertised being made with blue crab: what came to us was a dish full of crab stick (imitation crab) - not something I would have ordered, had I known: when your menu has clams and oysters on it however, you don't really anticipate seeing freakin krab in the crab dip. The bar pie was good. Next time in we ordered a lobster roll and a chipotle chicken cheesesteak (on the special menu, both of them). While the lobster roll is advertised as being made with 'lobster salad', it should have been advertised as being made with 'lobster tinted mayo': seriously, it was a mayo sandwich. The chipotle chicken sandwich? Quite possibly one of the worst chicken sandwiches I've ever had: the chicken was CLEARLY precooked and then just heated up as you actually can't possibly dry out a chicken that much on just a single cooking. It's then doused in chipotle mayo to try to make up for the dryness: I literally could not swallow the chicken...it was THAT dry. I've had a better sandwich from a couple of different chain sandwich shops. Worst part is that there's no reason for it: cooking chicken breast takes under 5 minutes on a skillet top. Was saving 2 minutes really THIS important to you, with an empty restaurant and no other to-go orders waiting? The menu on this place reads so great, and maybe I'm spoiled (based on other reviews it seems this place is pretty popular), but I've given it two tries and won't be back for a third. read more

They will all have wooden interiors, relatively dark lighting, Americana menu, Sportscenter, and random drink specials. Then there are, most probably, three normal dudes sitting at a normal looking table at every one of these places. The faces are different, ages, body shapes, but yet still, three blokes at a bar on the side of a road. These gentlemen ordered food that all of those other gentlemen probably did as well. The french dip came with a flavorful au jus. Fish and chips, flounder, and good meaty fries. Burger cooked to the correct temperature, enveloped with blackened grill char. Typical things you'd find at a typical stretch of highway. Even the conversation was ordinary of three dudes, mostly phallic humor. Was in town for a night visiting. Went to the busy area by the school and there were lines and 1 hr waits at almost every restaurant. My brother said "Let's drive over to the Tiger's Tale". We hopped in the car and were there in 3 minutes. It too was crowded but there is a lot of seating at and around the bar and there happened to be a high top table available so we grabbed it. Seemed like it is a favorite for regulars. Plenty of families waiting for tables and lots of people at the bar chatting and watching the TVs. Our waitress was great! Very professional, as in "I've got this covered - This ain't my first rodeo!!" kinda way. Asked her for suggestions and she gave us a few. Had the Cajun Angels as an app (her sugg). Shrimp and Bacon - say no more! They were delicious. My brother had the French Onion Soup and Chili and a Salad which he said were all great! We shared an order of the Polish Sliders (her sugg again) - I loved these! Kielbasa, pierogis, sauerkraut on Hawaiian rolls with a side of spicy mustard. Did I say I loved these!!!! One time I was here on Valentine's Day and this stranger woman talked to me about how important it is to wash your face every night and how you can put makeup on with a tissue and how you should never put makeup on with the same makeup thing. I've never been a bartender. Except at private events. But I have worked in the food industry for years and I've seen how insane the bar gets and every SINGLE bartender I have EVER seen on a crazy night is JUST. MAKING. DRINKS. It is like superhero status that the bartenders actually cook food that is insane that is INSANELY AMAZING!!!!! What?!!! WAAAAT?!!! They give you popcorn when you sit at the bar. It's standard movie theater popcorn. Which is to say it's good and, well, let's say horrifying to registered dietitians. I've obviously never sat anywhere except at the bar EXCEPT for one time when I sat at a booth in the bar and my boyfriends father ordered the Prime Rib Wellington off their special menu and I was like "if they have a special menu?" and then I LOOKED at the special menu and IT IS HUMONGOID. Their regular menu has some good dishes. These are some of the good dishes: 1. Thirsty Mallard. It's great, get that. Don't take a bite for three minutes once you are served, it is hot, and you will be sorry. 2. Cajun Chicken Sandwich. It is served on garlic bread and that is all you need to know. 3. Pork Roll Sandwich. It is not called that, I have never eaten one, but I saw one the other day and wanted to fling myself over the bar and land on it face first. 4. I'm torn on nachos supreme. If you like cheese cheese cheese, you will like that that that. 5. My boyfriend claims their Caesar salad is legitimate and I will vouch for him. I've been trying to support our local eateries during this difficult time but tonight's dinner was sub-par at best. I had the Chicken Parm a la vodka- chicken was over cooked- easy to see the breading was burnt, I had to ask for extra sauce for the pasta and the garlic bread was stale. My husband ordered a steak- medium/rare, on the rare side. The steak was medium- medium well. He sent it back and then the side of asparagus were limp and over cooked. Like all of that was not bad enough half way through the dinner there was a foul order-sewage odor that persisted until we left. When we asked the waiter he said it happens. They have an interesting selection of food from Alligator Sausage, German food , hot and cold sandwiches,burgers, chicken, salads etc. My favorite was the Grouper Ruben sandwich with fries. When my sandwich came out it was amazing! Fresh plump grouper on a marble rye bread. The grouper sandwich was topped with cole slaw, Russian dressing, and melted Swiss cheese oozing out of the sides. It was the perfect combination .The sandwich was huge! They don't skimp on any ingredients!! I was pleasantly surprised,the grouper melted in my mouth. I've eaten this sandwich many times living in Florida. I must say this was the best Grouper Ruben sandwich I have ever eaten. One of my friends ordered the alligator sausage hogie. It was also nicely done and seasoned. This item is unusual for this area. As we all were eating I saw many dishes coming out from the kitchen. The burgers and sandwiches looked great! Been coming here on and off for over a decade now and if there's one word to describe this place, it's consistency. It's a go to bar for the locals and a staple of the community. The decor and the menu have remained largely unchained, which is one of things people tend to like about it. As far as bars go, the food is actually pretty good. Burgers and chicken sandwiches are specifically good.. You can always look forward to a bowl of fresh made popcorn when you sit at the bar and the service is always friendly. On Friday and Saturday nights (like all bars) it can be especially crowded. In general there isn't a lot of room to maneuver around, so it's especially bad on the crowded nights. Almost to the point where you're better off leaving or going elsewhere. There are however tables in another section of the bar for sit down dinners, which present a lot more space. Good bar, good food but nothing special. A cool place to come if you're in the area, but better bar selections a short drive away in Princeton. read more

We've passed by this place numerous times over the past year, and there was always smoke coming out the back. BBQ! So we stopped in for a light lunch today. Basically, this is what TGIF or the other places want to be--an authentic local sports bar with food and friendly people who don't need flair. Music is the typical classic rock, setting is dark wood with old signs and mirrors, a decent selection of beers on tap (not stupendous, but decent), and an extensive bar like menu. From the seasonal beer selections, I chose Honey Moon and Jim got a light tasting but dark Flying Fish. The Honey Moon was very light, and the Flying fish slightly chocolately, but watery (it was hot and muggy today, so they were actually perfect). Way too many items on the menu, so I settled for the cajun wings and Jim got the half slab of ribs, which came with salad (huge--your choice with or without salad shrimp and chopped hardboiled eggs). The salad was great. I usually hate salad shrimp, but here they had been thawed properly and actually tasted like sweet shrimp, not paste. The cajun wings were a bit greasy for me, but they'll be great in tomorrow's chicken salad. Not at all salty, but blackened. The seasoning didn't do much for them, I hate to say. The ribs were tender--not fall off the bone, but tender. Good pig flavour. The sauce tasted like Heinz 57 Sauce. A familiar taste that is good if that is what you like. Corn bread was more cake like. Applesauce as expected, and fries good. I regret not ordering the boardwalk fries (or whatever their name for it is): battered and fried fries, served with cheese sauce. I'm not pregnant, as far as I know, but these I've been craving. And I'm not even a beachgoer. They simply sounded really good. Friendly service, decent food and atmosphere. Took my wife to this place to celebrate her birthday. We are on a fixed income- and saved up so we could have a nice dinner for her birthday. We ordered a $70 tomahawk steak for 2. The steak was inedible! Tough as leather- and you could chew it for a week and it would never get smaller! Asked for the manager- who was rude and did not care that we were unsatisfied. Told us they sold lots of these and no one else complained.. left it on the check at full price. We left it on the table. My brother- who was with us- wouldn't even bring it home for his dog! We had been to this place several times before- and for hamburgers and sandwiches- it was always very good- but stick with burgers and sandwiches. Been here for lunch a couple of times and it's an okay spot for lunch - pretty much what you would expect. There's a pretty extensive menu filled with bar type food. Sandwiches, salads, soups, sliders, burgers, lots if apps, etc. I got a Cesar salad with the Cajun chicken, which was good and well seasoned. However, I asked for dressing on the side and it came dressed - heavily dressed... Others got the lobster roll, Cajun chicken sandwich, and chicken quesadilla. Tiger's Tale right on Route 206S is one of those places that are frequented by both locals and visitors to enjoy pub popular food. We have mainly enjoyed lunch and or early dinners here. Their draft beers are mostly ales, lacking on stouts which is what we prefer. Their menu is lengthy however they have daily lunch and dinner specials that usually satisfy. The atmosphere is somewhat serious with dark wood panel walls and tables and chairs. The service is "hit or miss." Among our favorites here is the Lobster Sliders, their House Salad, Chicken Bowl, and believe or not various fish dishes, (seasonal). Although this place is not on top of our list it has delivered consistent food and service over time. read more
