I had such a good time in this cute little tile shop in old town San Diego. I've been inside a couple of times. But today was the first time I bought something. I got 3 things. The address numbers to my house and our last name. They are so cute!!! But my favorite thing I got was a tray with all the tiles I picked out. It's so cute and it's so us. Now, I can't wait to come back and pick out more tiles for my kitchen! This place is pretty pricey. We spent a little over $300 for everything. But the owner gave us a little discount because I found his keys inside one of the tile boxes! He was very happy we found them! I would be back to The Tile Shop and I would definitely recommend this place to people too. read more

Ceramics are fantastic, tiles are never gone away, ever. There bring me such great memories of childhood, my house in Spain that the numbers 83 made of the classic white and blue ceramic tiles. I see the same tiles in here and is like going back to memory line. The store is very Mexican-like but there are many things identical of when I grew up back home. There are so many cute things for decor and you can find any pattern imaginable. I got a cute magnet with the moon that I plan to gift to a friend, so pretty. Years ago my wife and I stopped by the Tile Shop to kill time while waiting on a reservation. While there I saw a Our Lady of Guadalupe tile that I really liked but I left it there not thinking much about it. Over the next few years I kept kicking myself for not buying it. So the next time I was in Old Town this shop was a must stop for me. And there it was! I was so happy to see I didn't miss my opportunity. And the employee there was so friendly and helpful. When we told him we wanted to get a little frame for it so we could hang it outside, he knew just where to find one. And when we noticed there wasn't a price tag on it, he immediately hopped on the phone to call the store's owner. He then very very carefully wrapped everything up for us to guarantee nothing would break in transit. The experience was just so great. I will certainly be coming back to The Tile Shop every time I'm in the area. And I will certainly not hesitate to pick up anything that catches my eye. read more

LOVE this place!! It has something for everyone! You could get so many cute things for your home or for gifts, I enjoyed my time here so much and felt like I wanted to buy a million things. Not to sound like a cat lady lol but, I found a mini magnet for 4$ that was a cute little portrait of my black cat Jack. That is what I chose to buy this particular trip but, I know I will be back because I can imagine the unique gifts I could select for friends back home in Michigan alone just in this store! Its a tile shop! You wouldn't think that you could have fun in a tile shop but it was a feast for my eyes. They have a wide selection of Mexican, Day of the Dead and personalized tiles. Yeah, it's a tile shop. But they have so many cool tiles! We ended up getting new house numbers and a frame to take home as a souvenier of our San Diego vacation. Way better than stupid t shirts or what not. They really have any kind of tile you can imagine and some that have stories to go with them. When we made our purchase the cashier (who may have been the owner) asked if she could glue the tiles into the holder for us. Yes! I think it was a dollar more which I think is a steal! She triple checked to make sure she had the numbers in order before letting us know it would be about 20 minutes or so before the glue had dried. So we went and had dinner and came back. Our house numbers look so cool in the holder! Plus, when she learned that we were flying out the next day she packaged it all up very securely so it wouldn't be damaged on the journey home. read more

I loved the merchandise in this store but my buying experience left a bad impression. I was shopping w/ out of state friends and it was late. We were appreciative that the sales gal (older woman, gray hair) whom I assumed was the owner, stayed open to accommodate us instead of closing at 9pm sharp as most other stores did. I purchased one decorative tile and a frame, and 4 additional tiles that I wanted as coasters. I asked if cork could be applied to the back and continued to look around. By the time I returned to the register my tiles were corked - excellent! When she rang up the items she entered the price at $1 higher than the ticket prices and I mentioned it. She said the additional charge was for the cork. I mentioned that the posted sign said "no additional charge" and she said I was incorrect. It was late and I didn't want to make an issue so I paid. I didn't receive an itemized receipt so I was uncertain if I was charged the correct prices for my other items too. When i was finished and my friends were paying, I went back and looked at the posted sign again. Disappointed as I was correct, the sign said "We can cork any tile for no additional charge." I was going to mention it but it was late, my son was tired, etc...so I didn't. Walking out of the store I mentioned it to my friends and my son knew I was irritated and he said, "I'll go tell her..." We turned around to see the woman picking the "no additional charge" sign off the display!!!!! We were floored!!!! It wasn't the amount that I was over charged that bothered me, it was the unethical business practice of the owner! We were 5 feet away and she easily could have said, Oh I've made a mistake, please have an extra tile for the difference, etc but instead she picked the sign off the display!!! I won't be back as I can't support a business who cheats their customers. If you shop here make sure to get an itemized receipt! read more
