I've purchased many pots in the past and was treated well by the sales staff. However, my recent purchase was a return and a repurchase, which seemed to inconvenience the salesman as he had to get up and go out to the yard. He acted as if he was inconvenienced and possibly dealing with a "women" who was taking up his time to pick out a replacement pot. I will most likely never shop there again. read more

This place is one of the wonderful hidden gems of San Diego. They have a great range of fountains, backyard decor, and Mexican thatched umbrellas, which is what I went in for. After several visits, I've had a chance to work with different members of the team, including the owner. Everyone has been super helpful and I plan on continuing to support this business. This company recommended Palapa Guy, Eddie who sent out George to do the African Thatch cover, the job is horrible with holes. Backyard Escapes knows Palap Guy was a unlicensed business per other contractor that informed them. Yet, backyard escapes is still recomming this unlicensed company to customers. Beware the Contractors State Licensing Board cannot take action against them, they don't have a Bond, no workers compensation, and would not confirm the workers their using have papers to work legally. But most importantly they refused to redo the job and gave a small undesired refund that was too low to pay anyone else to fix their bad thatch work using the lifht weight thatch that doesn't even provide shade that my 19yr old cover provided before I updated due to fading. Employee did not even know that Backyard Escapes sells 2 kinds o Natural African thatch, plus a Synthtic thatch. Unsure if he was covering for George by not Dmitting to two different weights of Natural African thatch or doesn't know their own products. If you use any Contractor have them write the type and weight, item number of the African Thatch into the contract. The jobs at mansions and rich areas appear better but job was done in 3 hours and it looks like a sloppy 3 hr job. read more

I was blown away from the variety and quality of bamboo sticks they have in stock. I was also very impressed with their selection of pottery vases. Drove down from LA in search for the product that protects bamboo fencing. It's not an easy product to find, and so worth the drive down to SD. The salespeople here are so helpful. They explained how to use the product and also brought it out to my car. We just had the best experience at Backyard X-Scapes... We have been looking for a vase fountain and they had exactly what we wanted... There were 2 sizes and we just weren't sure which... They did not have the smaller one out as they had just received a shipment and much of it was still in the container... As we weren't sure, Clayton dug though the container, found the one we wanted and put it in the car. Done! They also had the basin and pump... Love this place. We just bought a house and needed to outfit the courtyard and backyard. We started at the usual stores (The Home Depot, Ace, etc) but the selection was lacking. A friend told us to check out x-scapes for pottery. Amazing. They have a ridiculous amount of stuff, totally awesome inventory. Better quality and more unique selection than we found anywhere else. And the prices were very reasonable, especially considering the quality. The staff was knowledgeable, they helped us put various designs together and suggested a beautiful water fixture to compliment our new pottery accoutrements. They also told us they could put in special orders if we couldn't find something in the store (meanwhile there was nothing we couldn't find, they literally have everything).
