(Serviced 11/23/13 SA @ 1:00pm): Over twenty years since I last stepped in here and the place hasn't changed much! My favorite Fossil dress watch had been out of commission for a couple months, so as I planned my day around errands around my old stomping grounds, an oldie but a goodie came to mind - The Time Machine. I actually had no idea if this business was still around, but the trusty Yelp app answered that question for me. All I needed was a battery (I hoped), so I packed my watch and plotted my errand route accordingly. I took the scenic slow-paced drive down Honolulu Ave. in the small foothill community of Montrose where "Mayberry, U.S.A." was alive and well. Among the many mom & pops some gentrification has snuck in and dotted its presence. For that alone, the name "The Time Machine" seemed so apropos. Enough with memory lane and on with the reason why I was there: Watch Battery ($8.50) - Pretty standard price as far as I know. Heck, the federal hourly rate of pay for a battery that will give me time for several years!? Sounded like a deal to me! And, they didn't charge you for service. However, I wondered if you were able to simply buy the battery and installed it yourself (they've always installed it). Service - On this afternoon, there were two other gentlemen already being helped by two male associates. I came in for a simple watch battery, was given an immediate quote and how long it would take, my watch was taken to the back, and about five minutes later (I was told ten minutes) all worked fine again. I also had a couple questions about an old Casio G-Shock Glide I loved but needed a new band, and they gave me some good recommendations. Plus, they were able to order accessories and handle repairs for you. All was good here. Parking - They shared a small free lot behind the business with Montrose Travel. Otherwise, there were plenty of metered street and lot parking all around the area. If you parked a bit far, the exercise would do you good and you could check out the other shops along Honolulu Ave. http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=8Qfetq6F0FTvZxSKeYW5CQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Atmosphere, décor, ambience - A brightly lit no-nonsense box of a store with both fluorescent from the ceiling and natural lighting through the front windows. There were a handful of chairs, glass cases that showed their wares ringed along the mint-colored walls, various promotional posters and clocks hung on the walls, and background music played in the background. http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=mGRD0OpsSUWvXrB1OmoMjg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Attire - It was totally casual so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. Overall, my step back into The Time Machine after all these years was a pleasant one, and I always felt good about supporting small local shops - especially those in and around the neighborhood where I grew up. This place was totally no-frills so I wouldn't expect a ton of fancy or fashionable watches; just good decent watches at comparable prices, accessories, and repairs done onsite or shipped out. I actually never bought a watch from here but always batteries and bands in my younger days. I found great value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (total experience was around $9.00; no tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX!

My two week old G-Shock needed warranty service and I was told by Casio to send it to The Time Machine.
