Armand was the repairman on my brother's 300 year old grandfather clock, and now he is the repairman on mine. My clock had been ruined by Greg from The Clock Specialist - he had charged me hundreds of dollars to weld a broken hand which he welded on crooked, so that the time chimed at 4 minutes after the hour. He wouldn't make it right. Armand came in, serviced the clock, and somehow straightened the hand within 20 seconds of accuracy. Pretty amazing for a 300 year old clock! I may have had a magical nostalgic experience. I when to Joseph Watch & Clock to find a watchband for my wristwatch, that was decomposing. I tried Target -they only sell Iphone watchbands (whatever that is) Then I went to CVS and they were unsure of what a wristwatch was. They asked if it was an app for a phone. By this time I'm melting into myself. Next, I'm thinking ...maybe wrist watches don't exist anymore. Sad. I tell my Friend and he tells me about a watch repair shop in Glendale. The man there was very nice. He was understanding about the need for a wristwatch AND how important it is to have a band to hold it on the wrist. I just went for a battery/wristband change. I'll tell you that visiting this store is a joy. You will be very happy with the service.

A couple of weeks ago, my husband spotted this clock in a pile of junk outside of someone's house. It's all wood and has a little "Made in the USA" stamp on the face. The hands were attached with a piece of scotch tape and we figured it needed to be repaired. But it was so freaking beautiful, it seemed worth finding out what that entailed. I popped in a new battery and the hands sort of stuttered, but didn't keep time. I took it to a clock repair place here in Silver Lake. The guy fiddled with it and told me it would cost $125 (!!) to fix. That seemed steep so I held off for a second opinion. Today I took it to H G Joseph Watch & Clock Service Center in Glendale where the proprietor, a lovely man named Armand, looked it over and said he'd tighten the "movement" and bolt down the hands for $15. He had me take a seat and said he'd fix it WHILE I WAITED. I sat in a comfy chair, tapping my toes to old Blue Eyes singing "Fly Me To The Moon" and Harry Connick Jr. doing "It Had To Be You." Armand emerged from the back room and the clock was FIXED! And get this, he said that if it stops keeping time, to bring it back, he'll refund the $15, and charge me $35 to replace "the movement." It's hard to believe there are still reputable shops like this around, though they are clearly a dying breed. Please take your watches and clocks to Armand to fix! He's kind, honest, and excellent at his craft. I'll be returning with some watches soon. read more

stopped by this spot after hearing my local watch repair shop was closed. i had a Victorinox watch that was dead and a Diesel watch that needed repair due to a broken band. I think this is the only place I can find in Glendale that has review. I find his work pretty good and effective. Price makes sense. The only time I felt awkward was when my second visit where I asked him to adjust the chain of my new watch and he charged me $10 for doing it. I stopped coming back to this place for a while after that... but I got over it and finally came back again recently. Had an issue with the dial on my watch, so my husband took it in when it got jammed and I couldn't change the time. I thought it would be a simple fix, but it ended up needing new parts and an overhaul. I appreciate that they were friendly and accommodating, and able to fix it in five days even during the holidays. Only downside was the cost. I understand that the parts are more expensive for a Cartier watch, but we were not given an explanation on how much were spent on costs and how much was spent on service. With that said, I'm not sure how much this type of service costs so I can't really judge if $250 is a good price or not. Most importantly though, they got the job done, they were very professional, and everything works perfectly now. I'm glad we now have a reliable spot we can go to if something comes up. I work a few blocks away and stumbled on this place last year while trying to get my watch fixed. I bought a watch that had to get links removed, but the guy at Nordstroms who adjusted it didn't do a great job, so the watch kept falling off unexpectedly. I was worried that it would keep falling off, but when I came here, they took care of me and it hasn't fallen off at all. The repair was really fast and inexpensive. I just came here today because my boyfriend's watch was missing the metal part on the strap that connects it to the timepiece. It cost $5 and took less than 10 minutes to get fixed. It's like you walked into the shop of a magic watchmaker in Warsaw, Poland except... wait...is that...K-Earth 101 bumping loudly over the loudspeakers? Yup. Yup. It is. Definitely not Poland! A bald man enters from a back room and greets you with a smile. You show him three watches, all dead, in desperate need of resurrection. He has the batteries that will give them breath again and it will only take him 10 minutes to bring your watches back to life. He examines their dire lifeless state carefully and quotes you a fair price for each, then makes you a deal for resuscitating all three of them. You agree. He takes your little ones to the back and you pace around and browse the merchandise behind the glass cases, you stare at the old wooden clocks on the walls and the watches on the vitrines. He returns and your babies are once again ticking louder than ever. He reminds you that they should be healthy for at least a year and he gives you card that he signs as a one year guarantee. You pay him and wish him a happy holiday. He buzzes you out of the mom and pop shop and you get into your car parked right outside at a 30 minute meter you didn't bother to put money into but you got lucky non piranhas dropped a ticket on your windshield. I was in the area grabbing some Thai (there's like 3 Thai restaurants around it). I happened to stumble into this great little shop called Joseph Watch and Clock- They had a lot of Seiko and vintage awesome watches as well as these very cool 3d post cards. And of course, the clocks! Upon further looking into this company, I found that Armand's father originally opened the business and gave you that old-world care. That, gimme a minute and I'll have it fixed right up for you- FOR A FAIR PRICE care! This is something all too often I've seen washed away in the decaying of business morals and overall service in America. Armand however continues this practice day-to-day. I'm a watch collector and have many complex pieces that I only trust to Armand from here on out. So many pieces have been damaged by careless hands- Armand takes care of your stuff and makes it better than new. Just my first time in there I saw a woman come in who'd been there obviously many times for battery replacements and other general services, she told me how great he was and you could see the bond he forms with his customers. Definitely a great place to buy, because you know he'll take care of it and you- and not rip you off. Armand took care of my favorite watch the minute I showed him the issue. He told me what might be wrong with it and told me a couple of options of what he can do with it and how much it will cost. But first! He said he wants to open it up and see if his deductions are on point. Free of charge! Like a doctor he checked out my watch thoroughly first before making a recommendation. He took it to the backroom and tinkered with it. I was ready for him to tell me that I have to leave my watch there for a couple of days because a part had to be replaced, just like what Fast Fix Al in the Galleria told me, and what they wanted to do without even checking my watch! Anywayz, Armand came out of the back after about 10 mins and told me he was able to fix it and tighten up the long hand of my watch. I asked if anything is broken or need replacing, he said no. He recommends me not banging it hard on a surface for it might loosen the hand again. But he said not to worry, he told me just bring it back and he'll replace a part if necessary. And he'll credit whatever I paid today towards the total of that future repair. Absolutely outstanding! I happily paid this man of very pleasant features, and with a smile on both our faces we shook hands. Ain't something like that rare nowadays? I almost felt like I was in Main Street Disneyland (maybe even better).
