What a quaint neighborhood gem serving a delicious breakfast with great service! My parents and I were able to get a table right away here after checking 3 other brunch locations that had over an hour wait on Easter Sunday. The breakfast menu is a bit on the smaller side but I was able to order an espresso martini, the breakfast tacos, a side of bacon, and we split an order of 2 of their huge pancakes. I thought the potatoes in the tacos took away from the chorizo and egg flavor but the side of bacon was so perfectly cooked I had to order another serving! The heritage flour pancakes were also very fluffy and tasty. With my parents visiting from NJ, the location was convenient also because we got to see the George Floyd memorial right after breakfast. This place has the best atmosphere on the patio and great community events. I attended one of their workshop classes that was a lot of fun and well organized. The patio is surrounded by a garden which in July is in full bloom was beautiful. Their farmer's market and live guitar music made the experience worth it. The food was very disappointing and overpriced. The service was fine. I had the Singapore noodles with chicken. Traditionally Singapore noodles are spicy or at least have some spicy to them served with roasted pork and shrimp. I understand their aesthetic is boutique farm to table so the recipe will be different but it doesn't mean put no flavor in or the sauce is just oil and curry powder. The chicken was cooked and flavored well - easily the best part of the dish. The noodles were pretty al dete and had many sauceless spots. The dish comprised of 3 veggies, noodles, very little sauce and the chicken which was $17. This is easily a $7 make at home meal that at least would have more spice and more complex curry flavor. This is one of the few entrees on the dinner menu that as a bonus is dairy and gluten free but its just not good. Please do not get this dish! The BF had the turkey bacon avocado sandwich which was good. The turkey was thick and avocado perfectly ripe and buttery. There are so many places that serve similar and better food. read more

We stopped in for brunch and happy to be seated right away. The Tiny Diner is super charming and was very comfortable. I ordered the huevos rancheros on recommendation of our server. It came with a plate full of beans on top of fried tortillas, with eggs and I ordered sausage with it. Everything was cooked perfectly, it just had ZERO seasoning. The beans were super bland. Walking into this establishment gives a cute, diner-type feel. My husband and I visited for a late lunch and sat outside on the patio. It was mostly covered to block the sun, and the seating was typical patio seating. There was a bit of a language barrier with the server, but that was not a problem when it came to ordering; smiles are universal! :) The water served was room temp which was off-putting. the burger appeared to be just a frozen beef patty that you'd find at a grocery store. It had more bread than anything else and looked very unappealing with the cooked onions and sauce, it looked 'gloopy'. They definitely have one of the best patios around. All around a really cool place and great for littles because they can run around a little bit. They also have bees on the roof which is insane in my opinion! Unfortunately when we went they very extremely understaffed so everything just took a little longer but no one was in a rush and we were just able to enjoy time talking outside. Oh, Tiny Diner. We came on Labor Day and waited about an hour for an outside table (super dog friendly). The food also took about 45 minutes which we weren't warned of when ordering but I did hear the hostess saying after we were seated that it was an hour for a table then another hour for the good. I guess people called in but I doubt many people there planned on spending their entire morning at breakfast. I'd already picked what I wanted before arriving and got the breakfast burrito with the sauces on top. I need more sauce for the upcharge as the soaked in quickly (or maybe just more sour cream or a salsa) but don't think it would have been the same without the sauce so definitely do that! Love the concept and outdoor seating at this restaurant (though I don't know how these hardy Minnesotans manage to eat outside in sub-60-degree weather without heat lamps - I've gotten soft from all the years of living in California). The service was adequate, neither outstanding nor horrible. What I didn't love was the food. Started with a chai tea, which was quite tasty. Biscuits were exceptionally large but largely tasteless and a bit on the dry side. IMO, biscuits should practically flake apart and melt in your mouth - these did neither. I did like the house-made preserves, which were quite gingery. Hash browns were unremarkable. The blueberry pancake was really disappointing. There was an adequate amount of blueberries, but the pancake itself was a little greasy on the outside and a bit rubbery and tasteless on the inside. A great place for breakfast! They have a lovely patio space and we easily got seats on a Saturday morning. Started off with warm beverages. My husband got a caramel latte. He wasn't blown away. I went with the microbrewed masala chai and my husband kept trying mine. It's heavy on the cinnamon but overall pretty good. My husband loved how creamy my drink was and will probably be getting the chai next time. My husband got the biscuits and gravy with a side of chorizo. Tiny diner does a mushroom gravy so it was a hard pass for me since I think mushrooms are horrible! My husband said the gravy itself was pretty bland but went he mixed in the chorizo, the dish was way better. I tried some of his chorizo (a bite not tainted by mushroom gravy) and agreed that the chorizo was very good! I went with one pancake and added bananas with a side of hashbrowns. The hashbrowns are not seasoned so adding a little salt and pepper helped. I think some people would be bothered that they don't season the hashbrowns but I personally liked picking how much salt and pepper I wanted. The hashbrowns themselves were crispy and really that's what matters! Our favorite part of the meal was the pancake. Soft on the inside but with crispy edges. I also loved that the batter they used. This is not a traditional fluffy buttermilk pancake batter. It's made with wheat flour and I'm going to tell myself that it's a healthier option so that I don't feel so bad about eating that all up! We were so full at the end of our meal. It might not look like a lot of food at first but so filling! I also loved that tiny diner does reasonable prices for breakfast food. Service was great. They do allow dogs on the patio. We spent a lot of our meal petting someone else's dog. There is a small parking lot available. Otherwise street parking is within a block or two! read more

I loved the aesthetic of the place a lot and it was perfect for a not-so-hot summer brunch. I got the green onion scramble which was cook with cream cheese (never would've thought of that but it really works). Their hash browns were really good but not the best I've had (could've used a little more favor and crisp). I subbed my toast for a biscuit instead and it was pretty good with the jam that I asked for on the side (it needed some butter but by the time I realized, I was almost done with it). Average though for being a house made biscuit. The drinks were really delicious. I got the grapefruit white wine spritzer and my friend got the orange drink. I ordered the beet salad, my cousin ordered some sort of healthy bowl (she does that) that had chick peas in it and maybe kale or something, and my husband got singapore noodles because he was intrigued (even though he said he wasn't going to have carbs. He does that). Everyone loved what they got. If we weren't still hating ourselves from Thanksgiving, we might have gotten the special pancakes to split for dessert-- they sounded amazing (some sort of s'mores thing). We had to go shopping and run other errands, otherwise I would have ordered a beer-- I was very impressed by their beer list, which sounds pretty rare for a diner but maybe isn't for Minneapolis. Ambiance: There's a patio that has a nice ambiance and makes you want to sit outdoors. That particular day i visited... my body craved AC. Indoors, it's larger then you would expect... ample seating. Food: I had the dill fried crispy chicken sandwich and a lavender mimosa. The sandwich was good, crispy, but i left me wanting to ask for more dill seasoning on the side to put on top of my sandwich. Nice cozy place. They have a really good lavender lemonade! Food was not bad. Service could be better. One of them was pouring water and spilling every where on the table and she didn't care. Most importantly, service is really slow. It's been almost 45 minutes since we stepped in and we still had no food. We had condiments come out every like 15 minutes. I waited almost an hour for a $13 salad. I asked for the check as soon as the food came out and she didn't split the receipt even. This place looked good but it was v disappointing. Stopped here with a group of fifteen after visiting George Floyd Square. We chose to eat inside on this summer day, but the patio did look inviting. The staff did a great job with our group, seating us quickly. Our orders were taken efficiently after giving us enough time to look over the menu. Some of made choices from the breakfast menu with omelette and others chose various salads and sandwiches from the lunch menu. To a person we enjoyed our meal. Went there for brunch and had to wait almost an hour to be sat even though there at least 10 empty tables. It didn't seem to be because of a staffing issue, because once we were finally given a table, we had at least 5 different waiters throughout the meal. We waited another 15 minutes to be served our drinks(just juice and water) and it was another 30 minutes before we finally got our food, which was almost inedible. I ordered the breakfast tacos, and they were so soggy that they instantly fell apart. There was also almost no flavor to them. As other reviewers have noted, the silverware was visibly dirty, not just water spots(which would have been fine) but there was evidence of previous meals dried onto them. We pointed this out and one of our many waiters said they would take care of it. It was at least 10 minutes before we got our new silverware, which was also dirty, but cleaner than the last. At this point we were fed up so we just used the silverware. After that it was another 15 minutes before we got the bill, to do so we had to flag down one of the several waiters who were standing around the pos system having a conversation and ignoring their tables. The waiter who brought us our check was visibly annoyed that we had interrupted their conversation. Far and away the worst dining experience I have ever had. I would give this place zero stars if it was possible. There were also numerous dead and dying flys on the windowsill next to our table. read more

I'd been reading about the excitement surrounding the opening of Tiny Diner on Eater for a few months, so when I found myself looking for a place for brunch on Sunday morning, Tiny Diner was my first choice. First of all, I loved the atmosphere - diner with an outside patio and garden. I also was pleasantly surprised that there was no wait for my group of 4 at 10:30am (I don't think people have discovered how good this place is yet). Our server came over and greeted us promptly, welcoming us to the restaurant, and explaining that the menu had dishes inspired from Philadelphia, PA this month. He also explained what "scrapple" was (we had googled it and it came up as "pork mush"), and made it sound much more appetizing. He genuinely seemed excited about multiple items on the menu. Everyone in my group loved their breakfast choices, including myself. I had the green onion cream cheese scramble with hashbrowns and wheat toast. The toast came with homemade strawberry jam - yum! I also tried a bite of the scrapple and a banana chocolate chip pancake. Both were delicious. Prices were good and portions were on the smaller-side (only 1 slice of toast with the scramble), but still plenty of food that I left feeling full. I ordered a Dagwood sandwich is a very good choice and I can highly recommend it. The Dagwood sandwich comes with kettle chips, my favorite type of chips, lightly salted. Forgot to ask if they were made in-house or store bought, anyway they taste great. One thing that could be improved, the ham could have a bit more flavor. Factoring in the extensive patio available when weather permits and the relatively capacious interior, the Tiny Diner is surprisingly commodious. Additionally, it has more the feel of a hip, breezy North Shore cafe than an urban diner. So... maybe Tiny Diner is a bit of a misnomer. But it's such a good name and rolls off the tongue much more easily than, say "Bigger Than it Looks Stylish Yet Funky Eatery." So yeah, I'd stick with Tiny Diner. Bonus, they have a pleasant organic garden that one may stroll through in season. Anyway, I love a hearty meal to start the day and Tiny Diner can accomodate. Pancakes are stacks of substantial yet fluffy goodness to which one may add bananas, walnuts, granola, bacon bits, blueberries or chocolate chips (each add-on $.50). The egg sandwich is piled high with your choice of ham, bacon or chorizo, gruyere and mixed greens between grilled english muffin. Huevos Racheros is a fresh, non-greasy, delicious take on this classic with a pleasant spicy kick. Friendly, efficient wait staff. Very reasonable prices considering the quality and quantity of food served. Plenty of parking in the lot or on surrounding streets. Small quaint place that's great for comfort food made from scratch, some "healthy" fair, an adult beverage, or coffee. They have a full bar on one end of the restaurant and the other end houses the kitchen that looks like your typical diner. Prices were fair for the food we got as well. Friend got the black bean burger with fries--she gave it 2 thumbs up. I loved the fries--Please don't judge me when I say this, but they tasted like gourmet McDonalds fries! We shared the cheese curds, they were lightly breaded and not to gooey. I had their soup & 1/2 salad deal--coconut curry soup that had a hint of sweet and lots of fresh veggies in it paired with their kale salad--"massaged" kale, cabbage, and slivers of almonds tossed in a delicious vinaigrette. They offer 4 amusing varieties of Bloody Marys all 4 mixes made in house: one with a carrot juice base, another with green tomatillo base, and one with dill Aquavit. Being a purist at best, I stuck to the classic--a hint of spice, lots of peppercorns, served with a couple of cheese curds on a stick and a pickle spear. Yum! Docked one star because service was a bit slow. We needed napkins and silverware when our food was served; I had to go galavanting through the restaurant looking for a server or bartender to give me some. Wow, I cannot believe I have not been here yet. I absolutely love it here. We arrived on a Friday evening and this place was kind of packed outside. We sat inside. The food is amazing! We had two types of burgers, Grass-Fed Beef Burger and Green Chile burger. Both burgers came with a side of chips, wished I had substituted for fries. The two people we met up with had ordered kale salad and some other vegetables that I forgot. I thought Green Chile burger was super delicious because it a little spicy and sour which I liked. Their drinks menu are pretty good too. I had champagne with sugar cube now that was something very refreshing! Wish I had pictures to show it but I did not want to interrupt our discussions. We were excited to support a local business and get a delivery from Tiny Diner as I have been there for Lunch and Dinner on their patio / inside a few times - and had a nice experience. The wait staff has always been friendly, the atmosphere is great and food fun. But I was extremely disappointed with our breakfast this morning. I hate to call them out but I wanted to be honest. I ordered the vegetable hash. It left much to be desired and I was left extremely disappointed. First note: 1) It's under the "Big Tiny Breakfast Section." - First deception. It was Tiny.. not big. M "tiny" scramble that barely filled 2/3 of the bottom of 4x6 box and it laid super flat. 2) Listed "Seasonal vegetables and Hash"... The veggies? Just a touch of chopped kale, a LOT of large cut snap peas for filler and asparagus. Yum right? This was unfortunately very bland and completely under cooked- Crunch crunch on those snaps. Bring on the hot sauce and seasoning. 3) "Poached Egg".. Yum - I thought - some runny delight to add to the nice veggie hash I was going to get. Nope - Poached hard, overcooked. I could have bounced this baby. *sad face.* I should have tried my luck with the breakfast sandwich. 4) Toast. Dry and bland. My SO ordered the breakfast burrito, A breakfast burrito. Sounds like a safe bet? Looks good from the photos and avocado on the side. Well Tiny it is.. disappointing too. And no side of avocado. Some weird coleslaw veggie side combo on the side. I've been here a few times over the last couple years, most recently the other day for breakfast. There's a decent amount of parking - a small lot and lots of street options. The interior is cute, with many small tables scattered around. Maybe not great for a large group. They have a gorgeous patio, which is great to enjoy during the summer and fall months. We sat outside, even though it was about 55 degrees after our patch of sun shifted. But it was so clear and beautiful outside, the chill was worth it. My friends and I all ordered the breakfast burrito, and I also got one chocolate chip pancake to seal the deal. (I'm a big proponent of balancing my sweet and savory.) The breakfast burrito was amazing. I opted to not get the red, white, and green addition (a gorgeous slathering of salsa and sour cream). When I saw it on my friends' plates I regretted the decision, but as soon as I took my first bite I was happy to discover more than enough delicious and complex flavor. (I'm not saying don't get the red, white, and green. I'm just saying it was still amazing. But definitely get it.) The texture of the potatoes stuck out to me as being absolutely perfect - they were shredded hash brown style as opposed to chunky like breakfast potatoes - and it was divine. The pancake (which was enormous, glad I only ordered one) was beyond incredible. I am a pancake snob - only make them from scratch at home, and I'm pretty judgmental of restaurant pancakes. This took the damn (pan)cake. (Oh no, dad joke. Sorry.) It was fluffy but substantial, and had great mouth feel. So so so happy. I've been here twice now and was disappointed both times. Super cute place but the food isn't very good. Plus our current experience was over the top bad. We ordered egg hash with scrambled rather than poached and they brought us poached, very raw. No big deal, but when we sent it back they brought the same plate back with scrambled eggs on top. Had to send it back again and a new order came back with missing ingredients. In addition, the potatoes were undercooked and greasy. We just ate what we could stomach and asked for the check.
