I've been here twice now and was disappointed both times. Super cute place but the food isn't very good. Plus our current experience was over the top bad. We ordered egg hash with scrambled rather than poached and they brought us poached, very raw. No big deal, but when we sent it back they brought the same plate back with scrambled eggs on top. Had to send it back again and a new order came back with missing ingredients. In addition, the potatoes were undercooked and greasy. We just ate what we could stomach and asked for the check. No discount or apology. Definitely won't be coming back. read more

I love the Tiny Diner! The outdoor patio is one of the cutest in Minneapolis, so stop by before it gets too chilly out. Lauren was our server and she was incredible! She really took care of us and was so helpful with the menu. I got a salad and a side of fries, which was the perfect amount of food. This place is so cute!! I came for dinner a couple weeks ago and loved the space. We had accidentally mixed up our reservations so we ended up having to wait for a table but it only took about 15 minutes before we were seated. We tried a mix of food and cocktails. There's quite a variety of drinks and beers to choose from (and if you check in you get a $4 happy hour drink at any time). I ordered the veggie burger and it was really tasty! It was the most different veggie burger I've had-- solely because it wasn't made out of mushrooms or black beans or anything.. but actual veggies. It was great. The french fries were good too (not my favorite, but still good). I really enjoyed the chicken wings! Whatever kind of breading on it is delicious, and I wanted to keep eating them even though they were just our appetizer. I love that they have burger specials so things are always changing up. The one they had when I went was a Wisconsin-cheese kind of burger. I enjoyed it! The club sandwich is HUGE. Like that thing can feed a whole family. It is stacked. You definitely get your money's worth for it. The fried chicken sandwich is also delicious. I think if I had to pick a favorite I'd say the chicken dishes would win. There a small parking lot just right outside of the diner. There's also plenty of street parking all around so it shouldn't be too difficult to find a spot! read more

Yesterday, I visited the Tiny Diner for the fifth and final time. What's happened to this formerly appealing place?! The patio remains inviting, and the service is fine, but the food and prices? Ugh. My two companions ordered the Beet Salad, which was basically a pile of arugula topped with a sprinkle of feta; beets were few and far between. My (unfortunately dubbed) Bad Breath Burger tasted okay, but the presentation was ridiculous: a smallish burger placed in the middle of an otherwise bare dinner plate, no pickle, no chips, no tomato slice, no nothin'. In sum, the food is mediocre and skimpy, but at least it's overpriced (pennies shy of $42 for the above, no beverages). Too bad, because the Tiny used to be a sweet, funky, dependable neighborhood gem. Not any more, alas. read more

I wanted to like this place but I keep experiencing disappointment on my visits. The decor is interesting. There are cork board ceilings, simple light fixtures with grade school seating. It's cute on the inside and the outside. There's a decent sized patio with lots of seating. When it comes to the coffee, I have to say, it's very good! Unfortunately last time I was in, it took so long to get coffee that I had forgotten about ordering it. Yes, it was a busy day but I was a bit confused about the way in which things were being handled. There were several empty tables that were left vacant so the kitchen could catch up with the high volume of orders. This meant that there was a wait for inside seating. What's strange is that outside seating was available right away. Regardless of seating, the orders go to the same kitchen. I had the Breakfast of Champions. I thoroughly enjoyed the pancakes. They were really voluptuous and delicious. The accompanying syrup was really fantastic as well. However, the rest of the meal was average. Despite my past disappointment here, I will most likely give this place another go in the future because there is something charming about it. read more

Though it looks super small from the outside, it's actually not as tiny as you'd think. Two of us went for brunch at around noon on a Saturday and there was no wait at all, though I wouldn't come with a group bigger than 4 without a reservation. They have a small parking lot in front but there was ample street parking close by too. The menu: small but nicely refined. A little on the spendy side for a casual brunch spot, but the quality was definitely there. They change some of the menu every month with a different theme - this month was Washington DC. Staples included a fried chicken sandwich and crab cake eggs benedict! I opted for the breakfast burrito + red white and green salsa, it was so good! Extremely filling, it could have easily been shared between two people. The service was prompt and friendly, attentively refilling drinks and the food came out fast. When I think "diner" I often think of canned corn beef hash and pancake mix from a box. But Tiny Diner couldn't be further from that nightmare. Here, they use local and fresh ingredients, and even have their own garden and solar panels. A++ If I didn't love the concept already, the check-in offer for a $4 Happy Hour drink at any time was the icing on the cake. So I roll up Saturday morning (street parking) with my heart set on a big breakfast burrito, side of hash browns, and grapefruit wine spritzer. I had made reservations, got a confirmation email and everything, but sadly I was somehow not in the system. But we still got seated in a timely fashion, thankfully. I loved the burrito fillings, especially the chorizo and hash browns. However, it was a barely warm. I also was a huge fan of their red salsa that was drizzled on that bad boy. I wanted a little more, but our waitress didn't check back in and so I had to eventually flag her down. Still, the flavors were so good I scarfed everything. Good healthy food even if it's a burger from here and not healthy the food has a local and nourishing feeling to it. Drinks are made without much sugar and are refreshing. I hate surgery drinks. Let me preface by saying I REALLY wanted to love this place. Had been hearing about it all over - and was really excited to try it out. When we arrived we ended up sitting at the bar, which was fun cause we got to see all of the food going out of the kitchen. It looks like their outside patio space isn't all figured out yet. I ordered a grilled cheese on gluten free bread. They can make most of their menu items gluten free upon request, which was exciting. Unfortunately, when it came out - I was less than impressed. I basically had a soggy little grilled cheese barely the size of my palm, for $8. We also ordered onion rings and tater tots. The onion rings were worth the $7. However, we got about 5 (fairly large) tater tots. I didn't think they were worth the $7 they cost. At the end of our meal, we decided to order malts. The malts were good, but they took FOREVER to come out. Overall, our dinner experience took over two hours - most of the time spent without anyone checking in on us. I will say, while I probably won't return for the food or the malts/ice cream. Their desserts (whoopie pies, carrot cake, and homemade pie slices) looked amazing. Also: be warned, their online menu doesn't match up with their menu at the restaurant. A lot of the prices are higher in the restaurant, although the food options are expanded. They should get it updated online. I would've made this a regular place to eat, as someone who eats out quite often, if the prices would have been more reasonable. Unfortunately, I can't afford to spend $25 on a meal and leave unsatisfied. I do wish them the best of luck and I hope they work out the kinks. I may be back for dessert sometime if I'm in the neighborhood. read more

A friend told me about this place and I loved the food here! Plenty of vegetarian options. Ordered the huevos rancheros without the egg and extra jalapeños for a kick. It was delicious! I've actually never had huevos rancheros made this way in a bed of pinto beans and salsa Verde. Will definitely come back. read more

The good: Awesome atmosphere, loved the style. Very cool to see the gardens outside along with a large patio. Plan to return when it's not raining to take advantage of their outdoor space. The prices aren't outlandish. Prompt service. The beef tenderloin was fantastic, prepared perfectly. The bad: Our server didn't seem to be too well versed on the menu. I had inquired about the loaded potatoes to be served with the steak and she wasn't able to provide us with any information, she didn't even offer to go check with the chef. Also, the other two people dining with me ordered the Organic Eggs, our server wasn't aware there was a meat and bread option, she didn't ask the guests what types they preferred. We had to speak up, also the meat option with the eggs never came with the meal. The ugly: Too much salt! I love myself a well seasoned dish, but the Philly Fries were way too salty as was the mixed greens salad served with the beef tenderloin. Good thing the waters are constantly being topped off! After a mix up at the Kenwood seen us arrive too early for the brunch menu, we decided to trek to Tiny Diner and give them a shot. First off, as you'd expect, a tiny parking lot, so street parking is the order of the day. During the summer, the patio would be an amazing place to sit and gives the place much needed extra seating for how busy it gets. Luckily, we arrived JUST before the crazy brunch rush hit and we had no wait to get a seat. There are two things that catch my eye on a breakfast menu. First, we all know, and say it with me... bacon pancakes. Feels good to say eh? The other is when someone puts "breakfast of champions" on the menu. I mean, what the hell, how could I pass up something like that? It almost taunts you to get it. Well, hook line and sinker, I went for it. The better half decided to mow down some pancakes loaded with chocolate chips and bananas. For good measure she got some pig too in a side of bacon. Very long wait for the food. At the very least, 20 minutes, closer to 25 though. Considering we had our order in well before the rush hit, I was kind of taken back by the wait. Food arrived though, and it looked solid. The one request the woman made for some peanut butter took a very long time to get fulfilled as did getting our water glasses filled up. The chocolate chip-banana cakes were pretty damn good flavor wise. They do need to reconsider the batter though as the structural integrity of the cakes were non existent and they pretty much fell apart with the mix-ins. If you're going to offer the mix ins, better have a batter ready for the job. This, not so much. Bacon was very thin sliced and on the chewy side. In the pic, you'll see how thinly sliced with them being nearly transparent in the light. My breakfast of champions...three eggs, short stack, hash browns, maple sausage, toast. I ordered the eggs over easy, and they definitely weren't that - more of the over medium to hard variety. Whatever, they're eggs I'll eat them and given the wait, if a server were to reach for the plate I'd probably bite the hand off at the wrist. Short stack was... ok? I really have nothing to say about it other than ok. The pure maple syrup was killer though! Hash browns were very good. Not over greased, and had a solid crunch. Would have been better with some egg yolk, but, to hell with luxuries I order! Sausage patty was pretty good. Decent hint of maple, would have liked it to have stayed together instead of falling apart like it did so I could cut it and eat it easier.. but oh well I guess. Toast was good, and the raspberry jelly was good. I've had this place bookmarked forever so having to grade it so poorly I do not like doing. But, food took forever, service was dreadful, couldn't get eggs right and things were just overall "I've had better." The woman said things were A-ok for her though, so 2-3'ish we're going with on this adventure. I'll round up from my 2 to a 3 although I have no ambition to come back and give it another shot. read more

This is my new favorite brunch place. I wish it didn't take me so long to try it. We went to Tiny Diner a few Saturdays ago and luckily it was warmer out, so we sported shorts and sweatshirts and sexy bedhead. We opted to sit outside. The only downside of this solar-panel-covering, is that it hides all sun. I suppose hipsters don't love the sunshine, so maybe that's the goal (super kidding). Anyways, it was cooler under the patio covering. It's huge and is welcoming (picnic-like tables and smaller tables for all sorts of diners (groups, couples, odds and ends, dogs...). The cute part of the patio is that you are literally surrounded by a garden which is pretty neat. Ok, the important stuff...the FOOD. It was great. He got the fried chicken benedict while I got the "everything breakfast". I couldn't decide on what I wanted because I was at odds with the chopped salad, macro bowl, pancakes, eggs, or just get a bbq shrimp omelette...yes, I said that correctly...I can't wait to try that delicious concoction. Anyways the food was amazing. The house-made chorizo sausage and the buttermilk pancakes were my favorites to my surprise. Came here for lunch with 3 other people (friends and a friend of a friend) a few weeks ago. Menu offered some pretty standard diner options, with some updated flairs, such as offering deep fried cheese curds, as well as a fried chicken on top of a doughnut dish. I opted for their breakfast burrito, and I swapped out their chorizo for vegetarian chorizo instead. We also got an order of cheese curds to share. Ya know, for a place supposedly called Tiny Diner, the portions are definitely not tiny (insert Rainier Wolfcastle "That the joke" gif here). I couldn't finish my burrito, and we had barely made a dent in the cheese curds we had ordered. My friends also couldn't finish their respective dishes. Humongous portions aside, the food was all pretty tasty. Service was a little on the slow side, but not irritatingly slow where I feel like it really ruined our experience here. We got here around 11:15 and the place was hoppin. My boo and I were given a 30 minutes wait before being seated so we walked around outside and through the little garden they have. Tiny Diner is awesome because they are all about reducing and eliminating waste. They have a solar paneled roof and have gotten awards for their work with the watershed. Super cool business. So back to the food. My boo and I were seated at the bar and since I checked in I got to order from the happy hour menu for my drinks. Boo thang got a michelada and coffee, I ordered the brut. The michelada was on point. Not too spicy, but not tomato juice either. The food menu is awesome and I had a hard time deciding on what to get. I ordered the biscuits and mushroom gravy and he got the beet and chorizo hash. Sooo good. Both dishes arrived beautiful with eggs our way. I wish I had gotten double the food but that could be because I was at a Hmong wedding the day before eating everything in sight! I can't wait to hit this place up for happy hour and eat even more!! This is place is AWESOME!! It checks the boxes for everyone, without compromising anything. It has incredible food, it has great service, it has outdoor seating as well as indoor, it is hipster loving without being too out there, it sources a lot of local food and they even have their own garden for crying out loud! They have solar cells and recycle rainwater... On and on. Organic junkie? Love it. Like hip places? Get on it. Green doer? Winner. Love incredible food? Check, check and triple check. They swap our their menus every couple of months and take on a twist from a different city. Right now they have a spin of Milwaukee WI so everything has a German and maybe even Austrian spin. Schnitzel and Weisswurst, pumpernickel bread, Pilsner soaked apricot jam.... Wow. Loved this place and I'm sure you will too!!!! read more

The food was good but the service abysmal. I come in and a server siting eating lunch says from his seat, make yourself comfortable. Ok, what does that mean? Then the server for the counter comes by and I ask for a soda. She goes in back for it and doesn't return for a few minutes. I see her chatting with the bar tender holding my drink. I order and when the food is ready and the bell is rung the food sits a few minutes. Several servers are languishing about talking to each other. We debated whether or not to sit inside or out. The sun was pretty severe, so we found a table inside by the counter. Menu was decent. Food ordered: Banana chocolate chip muffin Breakfast Nachos Chive scramble with bacon The breakfast nachos were really good and plentiful. Scrambled eggs with chorizo. chips and two big dollops of guacamole- they were delicious. Service was okay- our server was personable enough. I'm a huge fan of ice and ice cold water. Tiny Diner isn't named ironically, as the inside is exactly as the moniker implies. That said, when the patio is open in summer there is definitely more room to sprawl. The patio is also one of the most unique around, with a solar array providing cover from the elements and a garden utilized by the kitchen. It's got atmosphere in spades. The food hasn't always lived up to ambiance, but overall it has been enjoyable for the most part. I can't speak to much of the brunch fare yet, but it seems that the closer you stick to more typical bar/casual eats the better off you'll be. They make a mean burger (grass fed beef), fry a good wing and have plenty of veg-friendly options. From a libations standpoint, it's beer and wine only, but they have a reasonable selection of both available. The Tiny Diner has a lot going on for such a small space and it's definitely unique - a great addition to the neighborhood. read more

I thoroughly enjoy breakfasts on the patio outside Tiny Diner. The interior, even pre-COVID, lived up to the "Tiny" in the name, but as long as one was expecting that and accepted the bustle, that had its charms too. Remember that the restaurant is growing some of its own produce, and bear that in mind when considering the scope of the menu. It's not incredibly deep, but what's there is quality fare. read more
