The times my husband and I come here it's consistently good. The sunny side up eggs are cooked perfect every time. I like that their French toast is more on the smaller side than Texas toast size. I honestly had an enjoyable experience at the toasted yolk cafe! I had the avocado toast, which was under-salted, though I prefer this so that I can salt to taste. The za'atar salad side was also something I enjoyed here. I must mention, there were quite a few tiny fruit flies at this location which lessened the ambiance for me. I understand only so much can be done with the cafe being this busy (and it being Houston!), but unfortunately this was not very appealing to me. The food was fantastic, and I would definitely be back for the food! However, when we arrived (a Sunday at noon) the place was swarmed in the lobby area but there was a lot of empty seating. They were calling names for parties to be seated every 5 minutes even though there were plenty of available seatings. Usually The Toasted Yolk would be my "go to" spot on the weekends, but this past Sunday was a very bad experience. We had several friends join us at church and wanted to celebrate their visit, and enjoy each other's company. We joined the "waitlist" online to beat the traffic and have a reservation in place. Upon arrival, the hostess were confused and could not provide a wait time (as we arrived at the stated time provided in the reservation). We had to wait an additional 30 minutes after the stated arrival time. The hostess response to our inquiry of wait time was "I don't know, it depends on when they get up". After being seated, our waitress Jailene took awhile before providing us with drinks. She was rushed to the point that we didn't want to ask for anything else. We had to ask other waitresses multiple times for menus and to order. They all stayed "let me get your waiter". When reviewing the menu, we noticed they have a seasonal option of food items with crawfish. A few of us wanted to add crawfish to a dish on the menu. When we asked Jailene she was extremely rude in saying "No, you can only order those three items". We even asked if we could pay extra for the crawfish on the side and she seemed offended and replied rudely. When trying to navigate the menu, she did not help with suggestions as a few members of our party were new to trying this restaurant. The restaurant seemed to be so busy, it wasn't a point to speak to the manager. I feel that the waitress did not care about her demeanor as the 18% gratuity was already included in the bill. My wife enjoyed her food however my food was incorrect, I made my own omelet with chicken as the protein, my omelet came out and it was only the vegetables on it. Typically the chicken is deep within the omelet so I didn't realize immediately. It was brought to my server, Jen's attention, there was no apology, I put the food off to the side as I had picked the omelet apart to search for the chicken and she asked about a freaking to go box as if it was not incorrect and to top it off she still did not take it off the receipt and charged me for turkey sausage patties that I got as a replacement. I did not want to make a big scene but as a server, why charge your customer for picked in and incorrect food? Now I love Toasted Yolk Cafe. They've recently started opening more of their Boozy Brunch locations. I selected a few menu items that I've never had before just to have a variety their menu. Waffles are my fav so I ordered their Belgian Waffle. The Belgian waffle is packed with whip cream & fruits and powdered sugar. I wasn't the biggest fan of the biscuits with gravy. Unfortunately, they were slightly dry and the egg and gravy didn't help too much. Can't forget the drinks. My ultimate favorite was the Irish Coffee.
