We stopped by The Toasted Yolk for a quick breakfast, but unfortunately, the experience was underwhelming Upon entering, there was a noticeable sewer-like odor, which was not the most welcoming first impression. Thankfully, the table we were seated at did not have the same issue. I ordered the two-egg breakfast along with a drink. The food was very standard and nothing that stood out. The bigger disappointment was the drink it had an unpleasant taste, and when I asked if it could be remade, I was told they do not remake drinks. For a restaurant experience, that felt very inflexible and unsatisfactory. The times my husband and I come here it's consistently good. The sunny side up eggs are cooked perfect every time. I like that their French toast is more on the smaller side than Texas toast size. I love that they have the option for chicken sausage. The service is good and your food comes out fairly quick. I had the pork chop breakfast and it was tasty and my eggs were cooked to perfection ... and my bloody mary was good ... The food was fantastic, and I would definitely be back for the food! However, when we arrived (a Sunday at noon) the place was swarmed in the lobby area but there was a lot of empty seating. I asked if they were understaffed for the day and the hostess told me they weren't. They were calling names for parties to be seated every 5 minutes even though there were plenty of available seatings. I honestly had an enjoyable experience at the toasted yolk cafe! I had the avocado toast, which was under-salted, though I prefer this so that I can salt to taste. The za'atar salad side was also something I enjoyed here. I must mention, there were quite a few tiny fruit flies at this location which lessened the ambiance for me. I understand only so much can be done with the cafe being this busy (and it being Houston!), but unfortunately this was not very appealing to me. From our server being inattentive the entire time to our food being wrong MULTIPLE times, today was just such a fail. Our request for fixes were ignored and when we brought up an issue on the bill from food we never even received (despite asking 2 servers to check on it) our waitress tried to accuse us of just eating it. This place gets busy, but for good reason! The menu has a good variety, though I wish there were more sweet options (plenty of savory!) I'm a big sweet breakfast gal, so I wished they'd had more extravagant waffle/pancake/crepe creations. I went with the southwest bowl with scrambled eggs. Usually The Toasted Yolk would be my "go to" spot on the weekends, but this past Sunday was a very bad experience. We had several friends join us at church and wanted to celebrate their visit, and enjoy each other's company. We joined the "waitlist" online to beat the traffic and have a reservation in place. Upon arrival, the hostess were confused and could not provide a wait time (as we arrived at the stated time provided in the reservation). We had to wait an additional 30 minutes after the stated arrival time. The hostess response to our inquiry of wait time was "I don't know, it depends on when they get up". After being seated, our waitress Jailene took awhile before providing us with drinks. She was rushed to the point that we didn't want to ask for anything else. We had to ask other waitresses multiple times for menus and to order. They all stayed "let me get your waiter". When reviewing the menu, we noticed they have a seasonal option of food items with crawfish. A few of us wanted to add crawfish to a dish on the menu. When we asked Jailene she was extremely rude in saying "No, you can only order those three items". We even asked if we could pay extra for the crawfish on the side and she seemed offended and replied rudely. When trying to navigate the menu, she did not help with suggestions as a few members of our party were new to trying this restaurant. The restaurant seemed to be so busy, it wasn't a point to speak to the manager. I feel that the waitress did not care about her demeanor as the 18% gratuity was already included in the bill. Bartender for espresso, takes way too long, ordered coffee 10 min later ordered breakfast and we got food before the espresso. Came here for brunch the other day. There was plenty of seating and no wait time. I ordered a pineapple mimosa and a pretty basic breakfast. 2 eggs, bacon, pancake and a hash brown cake. I think the has brown cake had some kind of cheese in it.... It was different... I think I would have preferred regular hash browns. Other than that the pancake was amazing and fluffy. There was a bar area that you could watch tv at, perfect for sports. It is pretty big and roomy in the restaurant. I will go back and try something not so basic next time. read more

Fresh off my flight into Houston I was hungry and needed breakfast and a drink. Found the Toasted Yolk on Yelp and saw that they had both. I got the 2 eggs and cake (pancake or French toast) and substituted the hash brown casserole for oatmeal. For my drink I had a Paloma. Everything was delicious. Staff was nice and service was fast. First time at this location and probably won't visit this location again . Service was quick not many people in here . The ambiance calm and chill with some background music . The food normally is great at any Toasted Yolk I've gone to but this location was not to good . Got the southwestern Arnold ,pancake with blueberries and the southern fried Arnold . The hash brown casserole was cold ,pancake with blueberries was under cooked in the middle maybe cuz I addded blueberries . The poached egg was under cooked very watery the egg white the food was decent but undercooked which messed it up . Wet walked in and even though it was busy there was no wait time which is rare in these parts so are breakfast places. We shared a seasonal crepe which was strawberries, bananas and Nutella. That's not very seasonal but I'm guessing they mean fruits that are in season, which is good too. I had the southwest bowl without jalapeños but the rice and sausage was spicy anyway. So if you like spicy, it's a good option but not if you don't. My significant other had the salmon poached egg and he was happy to have eggs be warm (unlike other places) and actual salmon instead of lox. My experience at Toasted Yolk was subpar today which was really disappointing. My wife enjoyed her food however my food was incorrect, I made my own omelet with chicken as the protein, my omelet came out and it was only the vegetables on it. Typically the chicken is deep within the omelet so I didn't realize immediately. It was brought to my server, Jen's attention, there was no apology, I put the food off to the side as I had picked the omelet apart to search for the chicken and she asked about a freaking to go box as if it was not incorrect and to top it off she still did not take it off the receipt and charged me for turkey sausage patties that I got as a replacement. I did not want to make a big scene but as a server, why charge your customer for picked in and incorrect food? To top it off, she brought us the check without asking if we needed anything else and we wanted to drink more. We simply paid and left as it was clear she was ready for us to go. Now I love Toasted Yolk Cafe. They've recently started opening more of their Boozy Brunch locations. I selected a few menu items that I've never had before just to have a variety their menu. Waffles are my fav so I ordered their Belgian Waffle. The Belgian waffle is packed with whip cream & fruits and powdered sugar. I wasn't the biggest fan of the biscuits with gravy. Unfortunately, they were slightly dry and the egg and gravy didn't help too much. Can't forget the drinks. My ultimate favorite was the Irish Coffee.
