    Bloody Mary #2
    Steve S.

A party of about 14 of us showed up for brunch after attending a memorial service for a loved one right on the beach. They were more than happy to accommodate us with a large table outside. Some of us including myself started with a coffee and a Bloody Mary. Quite possibly the best Bloody Mary I've had. It's right up there with the shrimp garnished Bloody Mary at Hymen's in Charleston, SC. The flavor and bacon added to the Bloody Mary was fantastic. I then ordered the shrimp and grits ( the south is the only place I'll eat them, because they taste so damn good. I wish I had a little more grits in my meal, it's seemed to be a very small layer of grits lining the bottom of the plate. Despite that, it was delicious. I wanted seconds. Our waitress was fantastic and very funny and even quicker with the jokes than some of at the table. 10/10 recommend all day everyday.

Review "The Trading Post" Emerald Isle, NC 05/25/2025 We have eaten at the Trading Post before on one of many of our sojourns to the Crystal Coast, and had good experiences, but tonight was one for the record books--in a bad way. And apparently it was partially a bad experience intentionally engineered by the front of house manager. We arrived around 515 and ordered drinks on the outside patio and enjoyed the beginning of a great musical performance by Dan Miller. The drinks took an extremely long time to arrive, and just around 630 we ordered our food. We didn't see a server again for over 30 minutes. Eventually, one of our party went inside the bar and waited at the cash register until drinks could be secured without the server's help. Our drinks easily expired by 730 and still our server was nowhere to be found. Our food, with incorrect orders (ex. no cole slaw, lemon, no cocktail sauce, no chicken on salad, well overcooked mahi, no sides, etc.) and did not arrive until past 830 pm. TWO HOURS. We asked to see the manager multiple times and he walked by us, ignoring us, mumbling about needing a server to take trash bags to the dumpster. When he finally did see us because we literally stood up and cornered him he said that he would give us 10% off. WHAT? There is no restaurant in the world where I would spend a couple of hundred dollars and get treated the way we did. Employees told us they had other employees walk out that night due to the manager--including the line cook. OMG they should have said drinks on the house and we will do bar food, and not try to fleece us for an experience they couldn't live up to. Someone owes us a huge apology, but at the very least I owe it YOU to let you know what happened before you go there.

We started with the grouper bites appetizer which came with a tartar sauce that was very similar to 1000 island. It was delicious, maybe my favorite part of the meal and took me by surprise. This place raised the standard for me of truly delicious food. We took home the piná colada cheesecake and the pecan praline cheesecake, both of which were awesome. The Caribbean Shrimp Curry was an amazing blend of cuisines full of bell peppers, pineapple, and very spicy. The kids had burgers for kids meals and were happy. When my daughter asked if they have strawberry lemonade, the waitress hooked her up with strawberry syrup with a smile. The location is very nice with a small park with a dock right across the parking lot. The prices are fair. We dropped $100 for a family of four. That's not cheap, but again, fair. It was something different, delicious, and spicy.

My husband ordered the catfish and collard greens and he said it's the best he's ever had, hands-down! He said the collard greens were melted in your mouth delicious. He also really loved the seasoning on the catfish I ordered The fish and chips. They were catfish nuggets and fresh sliced and fried potato chips. Both were very good! My mother ordered the scallops. She was also very pleased. In addition to our server, we also met Dee. I did not find out what his role was, but I would guess he was a manager or something because he was very knowledgeable and also very friendly. He wanted to find out what we thought of everything and what they might be able to improve upon. The food was delicious, and the staff was the epitome of southern hospitality and comfort! They should really talk more about those in their menu because that was the key note to this entire meal. I haven't seen fried mushrooms that big. They were absolutely delicious. All the fish were unfortunately overcooked and severely under seasoned. And it was unfortunately not just our order but all our friends orders who also ordered to go. Not only was the fish unfortunately tough, but it desperately needed salt and flavor (missing the typical blackened flavor). Instead, it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've ever had. From the beginning, things felt off. Our server was wearing basketball shorts, which seemed completely inappropriate for the atmosphere and setting of the restaurant. The wait for our food was excessive, and when it finally arrived, it was almost entirely inedible. The food was cold, the broccoli was essentially raw, the rice and risotto looked and tasted nothing like they should, and every meal at the table was disappointing. For a bill of over $300, not a single person in our party left satisfied. To make matters worse, we noticed the restaurant had a B sanitation rating, which certainly didn't inspire confidence after the quality of the meal we received. The waterfront location is beautiful, but that's where the positives end. When you're paying premium prices for a special celebration, you expect quality food, attentive service, and a memorable experience. Unfortunately, we got none of those.
