I really wish I had thought to grab a photo of my husband's Shrimp and Grits or my Country Ham with Red-Eye Gravy but as soon as it arrived, we dug in. If you're a Northern girl on the lookout for fantastic southern food while vacationing, this restaurant is a must. I love salty country ham and red eye gravy has been known to get me emotional. I rarely find grits that are worthy to call anything other than glue. This restaurant was a delightful surprise. The grits had flavor and texture. The country ham was a glorious little salt bomb, and the red eye gravy was a layer of love and I gave serious consideration to upending the bowl of it like a cup of coffee. My husband's shrimp and grits had just enough vegetables to trick you into thinking it was a healthier option. My mom ordered the Country Han Benedict and she loved it. My dad's steak and eggs was devoured before I could get a review, but his steak was cooked exactly as ordered. My top suggestions: shrimp and grits, country ham, and red eye gravy. My friend and I came with her dog and they were more than accommodating to make the outside space warm so we could sit out there with the doggie. Very disappointing with the farm raised shrimp to save a few pennies! Fresh seafood everywhere down there and they serve no taste Thailand farm raised shrimp. Cheap owners! What a shame, or I should say Sham! Poor tourists from inland don't know the difference but I sure did. Message to inland tourists: go down the street somewhere else and get good peel and eat shrimp. This business is supposed to be authentic and handed down many years but these owners don't get it. I really did love the atmosphere here. We stopped in on a Monday night, and it was packed. Waited about 30 minutes for a table, which didn't bother me-they were busy. Service was a bit slow I must say, and our waitress seemed rushed. Again, I understand they were busy. I ordered the fried chicken entree, which came with a choice of 3 sides, and a salad. Definitely a good amount of food for your money. For my sides I chose mac & cheese, collard greens, and fries. The chicken itself was delicious! A bit too salty, but really flavorful and moist. Mac & Cheese was pretty good too. The collards were....very very flavorless. They were missing a lot. I added a bit of salt and pepper and it made them tolerable. I guess I expected a southern restaurant to have great flavorful collards, but was really let down. Overall I give this place 4 stars. 3.5 if I could. I understand that they opened just recently so they still have much to learn. I would like to try again in the future after they've had a bit more time to get it right. read more

We went for brunch and dinner. Chicken salad was flavorful and filling. My son had the French toast, sausage, fruit and a sun side up egg. All to perfection. Dinner was equally amazing. Me the landlubber had the BBQ pork chop, sweet potatoes and apples YUM. The offspring knocked back a ton of crab legs that were sweet and meaty. Money well spent. Only caution would be the Mac and cheese. It was excellent but had pepper jack cheese I believe so it had some heat. Service is horrible. It was a 45 minute wait even though there was clearly open tables. It took us 20 minutes to get our drinks. The server took my plate away even after telling her I wasn't finished. We waited for another 30 minutes for her to ring up our check because " the none of the computers were working" but every other group seemed to check out just fine. read more

One of the best restaurants on the Crystal Coast! Atmosphere is energetic, service is very good and even with a wait you can sit out back and play cornhole whime the kids run around inside the fence. Soul Rolls are the best. Collard Dip is also a must. Burger and Whiskey Butter Ribeye and Steamed Shrimp are very good. For Breakfast try the shrimp and grits! Best I have ever had. read more

Shrimp and Grits were great. Flounder Reuben was pretty good although the bread was dry and toasted, not buttered and fried like most Reuben's. Everything was else was pretty bad including cold stale fries, cold bad Mac and cheese with ritz crackers on top, and a burnt hot dog on a hard stale overly toasted bun. Let's start by saying the parking was awful. Yet, what you find inside makes up for it. Greg, our server, went above and beyond to ensure our food selection included shrimp and grits. This place used to be good, but it's changed. We were a larger group and they refused to set up a table for us until we arrived even though it was requested only 10 mins in advance. Also it's pricey - $30 incl tip for 2 breakfasts and 3 soft drinks. Not enough gravy on sausage biscuits. Waiter seemed grouchy. We usually bring our group here every year for breakfast, but we'll be scouting out a new place next year. read more

Drove 45 minutes to the Island for an extremely average meal. Over crowded, facilities can't support the crowd. Bar tenders were completely overwhelmed.... Not the best first impression. We'll probably eat in Swansboro before we come to the island next time. Not worth it! read more

Fantastic meal - table of 6 with two kids and 4 adults. All enjoyed their meal and the service. Fried chicken was tender and tasted great, broiled red snapper also excellent. Kids loved chicken tenders and the hamburger. My fried chicken was served with Mac and cheese (so good), fried okra (good, not great), and baked apples( very good). We had a late breakfast. It seemed to be there busiest time. Aside from that, excellent customer service. We ordered classic breakfast dishes and they were fantastic. Frozen food? Ordered fried chicken and was soggy. Fried okra that looked suspiciously like it was frozen, and Mac & cheese that was doctored Stouffers. Hubby wanted special that was meatloaf and they ran out (at 6:30)? Was offered dark meat barbecue which we thought was going to be pork, server states "our barbecue is great!" Ended up with two small pieces of dark meat chicken with lame bbq sauce on it. WON'T BE BACK, which is sad as we are EI homeowners. read more

Typically it's been an ok experience. We've enjoyed the outdoors but the service and management could be much much better. Unless you're a table of at least four or more. Don't bother - you won't receive service for over 20 minutes... not even a water or an acknowledgement that you even exist. For sub par food don't waste your time on bad service. read more

The seafood is frozen and not fresh even thought we are at the coast. It has no taste . The hush puppies are stated to be homemade but they are also frozen. Don't go here if you are expecting good local seafood. read more

I've only been for breakfast but I have had a great experience both times. The staff is kind and the food is good. I've been looking for a good breakfast spot and this is it. The chicken and waffles were good. I do wish the waffle was crispy like a Belgium waffle but the chicken was good. Avery cool atmosphere that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a nice outside sitting area with a bar. We just had the standard breakfast of eggs bacon and toast. It was very good. I look forward to trying the seafood on my next trip. read more
