I would really like to give a 5 star rating but I can't. Service was 6 star. Avery did everything possible to make this a great evening. Thanks Avery! They have recently redone their paper menus. So the two menus we received had different descriptions as to what was included with the dinner. Avery handled that beautifully. They were out of several brands of gin. Ultimately, we did find enough for a very nice martini ($18). My wife and I split a cup of vegetable beef soup (4 stars), a small spinach salad (4.5 stars) and a huge rib eye steak with a baked potato and overcooked veggie medley. The steak and the baked potato were both cool (temperature). Despite that, we had a very pleasant evening and would be happy to give it another try next time we're in Shaver Lake. read more

Came here for the bread! Yes, it looks messy! But I was not prepared for this . I am soo happy we stopped by! It was warm and omg did it melt in your mouth! It tastes amazing honestly. Think of the moist cinnamon bread you never hadn't they do sell icing on the side I believe. We had coffee. It's okay nothing fancy. Most shops have basic coffee here. read more

This is the. best place to dine in Shaver! Steaks are cooked perfect! All the food is great. I highly recommend the Escargot app. They do it well. I also recommend the spinach salad, either as a side or the entree. Service is always great! Tonight Janet waited on us and service was fantastic! The restaurant is the oldest house in town. Built in 1927. It has been been everything from real estate office, to post office, diner, and arcade. The same family has been running the restaurant since 2002, and they are making a great run! Hear me out! I know Shaver Lake is a small community and dining options are limited. The food is a 0/0, especially for the fine dining prices. The food quality, taste or lack there of, and plate presentation is lacking. We ordered: The Calamari Steak appetizer. It was mushy, cold, and flavorless. $22 Pine Nut Salad with Grilled Chicken (+$14) I thought it would be like Dog House Grills Salad. NO. It was disgusting, lack of substance, flavor, presentation etc. how do you mess up a salad?? Filet Mignon- ordered medium. Over cooked to med well/well done. They smooshed this $50+ entree on to the smallest plate. 1/2 rack of lamb chops. My poor husband was absolutely bamboozled LOL. There was a SMALL bite of meat on each "chop" they were also dry and overcooked. The Drinks: Margarita and Old Fashion were very good! 4/5 stars! If you decide to stop here; do yourself a favor and save time and money by just grabbing a drink at the bar. Don't eat the flavorless, disappointing food. The owners need to taste the food coming out of that kitchen and manage plate presentation. read more

Had the New York. Came with soup salad and a side of your choice. Pretty good did notice some grissle on the cut of meat but overall good. Very good service, very good. Nice ambiance with knotty pine and well decorated. Fairly loud at the time we were there. An adjacent bar and that was busy. We went about when they opened and had reservations. If I could give it zero stars I would. The only saving grace for this poor excuse for a meal was the bloody mary - it made it bearable to eat the badly seasoned New York steak and the "fresh" frozen veggies. I had a beautiful Birthday dinner at the Trading Post recently in a warm weekend evening. We made reservations to sit outside and it was a perfect evening. The atmosphere was beautiful, especially as the sunset and the patio lights came on. They have a water feature that enhances the whole ambiance. The food was terrific. We enjoyed Ribeye steaks, Monterey Chicken and the spinach and cheese raviolis. Standouts for me; the spinach salad with a terrific vinaigrette, fresh baked bread with butter and the Peanut butter Pie! Oh my I would highly recommend. read more

My family and I were celebrating a family friend's 50th wedding anniversary near Shaver Lake and while we stayed the night, we decided to visit this place in hopes for a snack. Though they don't have a huge appetizer menu, the food was amazing but what made it a 5 starts was the staff and the ambiance of the restaurant. This was an amazing experience from the cook, the bartender, and the servers. Just so happen as we were getting ready to leave, a bear nearly game into the restaurant. It looked into the window for enough time to frighten a few people. I mean, I can't wrestle a bear lol it was a great way to finish the night after meeting some locals and enjoying this place very much. Must try the steak and crispy raviolis. read more

One thing I like when traveling is when the locals welcome you and make you feel like it's your spot too. Mountain town gem. We found this place while having a one day road trip on a Thursday. Warm inviting interior with a nostalgic feel. Came in an hour before food was being served so had a couple cinnamon old fashions while we waited. Bartender was friendly, welcoming and easy to visit with (I'm bad I forgot to write down her name) but thank you for your smiles and conversation. When we sat down to dinner, our server was kind and knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive (again forgot to get a name, man I spaced) She recommended the escargot and she was right, it was scrumptious. Garlicky buttery goodness, served with crusty bread. Dinner came with soup and salad. Chicken noodle was very good, and the spinach feta salad was great with a raspberry vinaigrette. Ribeye we shared, we topped with roasted garlic and had a nice baked potato and vegetables on the side. Decadent lava cake with vanilla ice cream. Tonight we were greeted by Sophia and served by Sierra. Trading Post is your go to spot for fine dining in a rustic building that's been standing since 1927! What? My mother was 2 ok? We love this place. Consistently good at everything from cocktails to apps to entrees. The filet is superb. The fish is great. Tonight Tammy the Tornado is going with her usual filet mignon and I tried the seafood combo. Both meals were spot on. Cooked to perfection. Wow! This place was a great choice after a long day of snowboarding. We started at the bar and the drinks were great, very nice bartender. You get a few courses with your dinner including soup (soup of the day was minestrone), garden salad, veggies, and a baked potato with dinner. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and the sides were great. We finished with the NY style cheesecake and a piece of the chocolate lava cake (both in which were great.) Overall very friendly local staff, and this is even the original building from 1827! A local couple we met ended up treating us to dinner and we were stunned! Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a cozy, filling, local stop! read more

On December 17, 2021, I wrote a review for The Trading Post Restaurant in Shaver Lake. I wrote this review due to the knowledge of owning and running a restaurant. The manager, we heard was the owner's daughter, was extremely rude and our steaks were not cooked correctly so we sent them back. When they returned, they were exactly the same. We could not eat the filet and New York that was extremely pricey! The manager did not take our steaks off the bill. She told us never to come back! I absolutely love coming to The Trading Post. During my first visit this past summer the staff made me instantly feel like family and I've visited many times since. The food is incredible (3 course meal!) and the people are amazing. Recently I brought my friends for their first visit and they too were warmly welcomed by Garrett, Kelley, and Sara. It's rare that a place far from home makes you feel so comfortable so quickly but that's what I've experienced every time visiting The Trading Post. We've tried this place several times now. We're done. First off, the floor was a mess. Then we were served our appetizer during our meal. The waitress was not very friendly and I was in a great mood. Love The Trading Post! The staff is always fun and the food is great! I especially love the peanut butter pie, soooo good! Some may think it's small but if you get the chance check out the back patio, more seating and the bonus of smelling the fresh pines. We had reservations for 7:00 and I'm glad we called in ahead of time, seating is super limited. The hostess was super frazzled and seemed a little overwhelmed and there really isn't to many tables so I don't get it but ok.. lol the staff was super friendly so that was cool to but the food just didn't hit the mark. It wasn't awful or anything but it wasn't at all worth what we paid for it. We started out with the escargot and shrimp cocktail. I really don't like the idea of putting snails in my mouth but the wife made me try it and it was ok haha. The shrimp cocktail was nothing special but not bad either. I ordered the ribs and they had a super limited number of sides to chose from so I settled for a baked potato and veggies and I don't like baked potatoes unless they are covered in stuff and again they didn't have anything to put on if except butter and sour cream cheese.... the ribs were basic and the bbq sauce wasn't very good and didn't pair with the ribs at all. My wife ordered the New York and didn't finish it. I'm not saying don't eat here because I know everyone has different tastes but this place just wasn't for me, so I encourage you to go check 'em out and have your own experience.
