After a quick heads-up the day before, the restaurant handled our needs with total ease. We went for the five-course tasting menu, and it was incredible from start to finish. We kicked things off with one of the best oysters I have ever had, followed by a beautiful tuna presentation. The kitchen even looked out for our gluten-free friends with a special version of their herbal-butter focaccia that was actually delicious. By the time the main courses arrived, I honestly could not decide if I liked my beef or my friend's snap pea risotto better; every single bite was pure perfection. The cocktails were another high point. My first drink was great, but after chatting with our server, Jordan, I decided to try the Last Word. It featured that hard-to-find green chartreuse, and I am a little annoyed to report that I have a new favorite cocktail that requires such a rare ingredient. The service is what really made the night so special. Jordan was so charismatic and helpful, making sure we were perfectly taken care of all evening. He was so good that I almost worried a second visit would not be the same without him, though the rest of the staff quickly put that fear to rest. From the time we stepped in and was greeted by the friendly hostess to the time we left, we were genuinely pleased with the staff here. I ordered the Tasting Menu and my hubby ordered French Onion Soup, Oscar Stryle & Prime Rib from their main menu. TASTING MENU: Amuse Bouche (watermelon gazpacho shooter): Refreshing way to awaken the palate. (5 of 5) Seared Sea Scallops (seared scallops, honey dijon aioli, citrus caviar beurre blanc): The crisp, caramelized crust of the scallops opens up to a luxurious naturally sweet and juicy interior. The scallops had depth of flavour, and the citrus shines through. It's buttery without any fishiness. The asparagus pieces were cooked through but still maintain its crunch. Everything works on this plate. (5 of 5) Chef Victor (sic) Pan Roasted Salmon (seared salmon preserved lemon beurre blanc, salmon chicharron, dill oil): The fish was beautifully seasoned and the sauce complemented the fish. What a perfect match - lemon beurre blanc and dill oil. The topper was bland but the sauce makes up for it. I could lick up the sauce - it's that good. (4.75 of 5) Chef Eli (sic) Filet Mignon (7 oz sliced filet mignon steak, carrot puree, oyster mushrooms, bordelaise sauce, crispy parsnip): A good filet mignon should melt-in-your-mouth because it comes from the softest, lean meat cut. My medium rare order was nearly there but the meat arrived cold. The carrot puree is vibrant in color - has a smooth, naturally sweet, earthy taste, and balanced perfectly with the meat. The mushrooms were over salted but was helped by the sweet smooth carrot puree. The cold meat brought an otherwise perfect score down. (4.5 of 5) Chef Jose (sic) White Chocolate Mousse (callebaut belgium white chocolate mousse filled with raspberry gel on top of a sacher torte sponge with fresh raspberries and chantilly cream): When I think of chocolate mousse, I think delicate, light, airy, cloud-like melt-in-your-mouth yumminess. This didn't have that. The dome was a hard shell. Though the presentation aced on this dessert, the texture and flavour did not quite live up to its name. While walking in, I thought to myself "it's gorgeous, why didn't we stay here again?" and then remembered because all of their low ratings as a hotel are due to poor service. The receptionist at the entrance is very bleh (didn't even greet us, she just looked at us so we said hello first ). We sat down and ordered. We were the only customers. The girl who took our order was nice enough but lacked professionalism. She just seemed out of it. She didn't write down our order, but a few minutes later came back saying "wait what did you for your entree again?". I'm glad she double checked, but for the price of the food and aesthetic of the restaurant, I expected better service. I ordered the wagyu burger but wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked - I assume they only cook it well-done because that's how it came. It didn't have the juicy buttery flavor of Wagyu, or really any flavor at all. The bread was good. The fries are phenomenal and I liked that more than my burger Carrots & whipped ricotta was good but not great - very flat flavor profile of ricotta, honey, and carrots. I think this dish could've been better with some acidity like a bit of lemon on the side. The chicken pesto penne pasta was good, but still flat. It would be better with cherry tomatoes or something to give it depth. The pasta was cooked perfectly Despite the chicken being absolutely tiny (approx 4"), it was juicy. Wish there was more of it I didn't care for the butternut squash soup but my husband liked it. It had good flavor but was very thin. Overall the place is pretty, but I wouldn't return as the food was very forgettable. It's a shame that the best thing was the side of fries. I'm giving a 4 due to the food tasting clean/quality.
