My brothers and I were seeing a concert in the area and thought it would be a good idea to grab some dinner beforehand. I'm not too familiar with the food scene in this area but we stumbled upon The Turk's Inn and the vibes spoke to us. That being said, we made plans to check this place out. Turk's is a kitsch enthusiast's dream - from the moment it caught my eye on the street I could tell this place was over-the-top (in a good way). The charm continued inside with tasteful decor and warm aesthetics reminiscent of themed restaurants in the past. All this being said, I found it hard to believe this place has only been in Bushwick since 2015 - however I soon learned that the original Turk's Inn was in the Midwest and opened in 1934; that spot eventually closed and was recreated here. There are two smaller establishments attached to the place in addition to the main restaurant - Döner Kebab which is a takeout spot and The Sultan Room which is a performing arts space. The menu is somewhat compact - containing some starters, four mains, and some sides. We decided to order a few things and share, and started with their relish tray, cheese curds, and baklava lamb rib. These were all delicious - the cheese curds were homage to their Midwestern roots; they were quite tasty and paired with a slightly sweet sauce that complemented the cheese well. The lamb rib was tender - I was fearing the baklava notes would make it too sweet but it was just enough to give it a unique edge. The relish tray was awesome - it contained a combination of dips, spreads, and pickled vegetables paired with a large soft pretzel and some bread. Everything was super tasty - I really enjoyed this. For our mains we shared the fish fry, lamb kebab, and a side of jeweled pilaf. The fish fry was good - I'm normally wary of fried fish since it can be overly greasy but that was not to be found here. It was paired with fries, some lightly pickled vegetables, and a tasty dipping sauce. The lamb kebab was good as well - the meat was a little too tough for my personal taste but it was still good and sat top a sauce/veg that complemented it well. Service was great - everyone was super friendly and accommodating as we were a little late for our reservation. They came by our table multiple times to make sure we were taken care of and their customer service really was a standout during our meal. Overall, Turk's Inn was a great find - the aesthetics were on point, the food was delicious, and the service was exceptional. I would definitely return for another meal. read more

My son and his lovely bride chose The Turks Inn here in Bushwick / Brooklyn to celebrate their wedding reception. It was the perfect place for this bash they were dreaming of. Music, dancing, speeches, open bar, tables of (buffet) food, friends and relatives reveling this joyous occasion. There were so many nooks and cranies in the building that each floor was a giant suprise: * A rooftop bar with a stage and dance floor * I won't call the second floor, the "second floor", but I would certainly call it The Elevated Floor with its own bar and humongous dance floor * The Entrance or First Floor has the biggest bar, tables and booths and the place to have a sit-down dinner. And this party of 100 people used every floor to the max! The food was great, the bartenders didn't skip a beat, the DJ's kept this party going until 4:00 a.m. and all I saw were smiles on everyone's faces. Our dear friends Toby and Leslie took us there first time tonight. We ordered cheese clouds, wedges salad, curried cauliflowers, lamb kebab and steak frites. Everything tasted amazing! Fresh ingredients with flavorful spices. The cheese clouds was so light, if you close your eyes, it tastes like a delicious savory whipped creamy clouds. I recommend the cauliflower and the steaks too. They are just so delicious. I cleaned the plates with an extra pita bread. Definitely will go back just for those ones and love to try more things from the menu. Turk's Inn is the supper-club style restaurant adjacent to the Sultan Room, where we attended to see the fabulous Kolumbo band perform. The dining room & bar space is aglow in red hues with plenty of kitsch in the design, Turkish tassels via 1970s tiki trend. Finally got to try the food at this place after stopping in for drinks a couple of months ago. First, the Turk's relish tray was delicious! Comprised of hummus, squash dip, muhammara, and olives, and accompanied by toasted bread, this is a flavor smorgasbord. Both my friend and I found it a delicious medley of taste. We also had the house pickles, which were crunch and refreshing. My friend had the shepherd salad, which she said was fantastic. I had the steak frites. The crinkle fries were well-seasoned and crispy, the steak was just okay. Kinda tough, sinewy. I wouldn't order the dish again. The famous cheese curds are at least a one time must try. I'm not big on fried foods, but the curds were rich, tangy, and unique. I had the salty apricot cocktail, with apricot vodka, vermouth, and eau de vie. It was a good cocktail, but I ended up having two of the saffron sour. The saffron sour, made of saffron liqueur, rye, lemon, and black pepper, is complex and spicy and so easy to drink. They have so many cool looking cocktails, made with all sorts of fruits and spices. I would love to try them all. I love the kitschy decor and low, red lighting. It feels like you're dining in a Middle Eastern back alley club or in a genie's bottle. Service has been excellent both times. This time we came in at 10, thinking they closed at midnight, though it turns out they were closing at 11. They didn't rush us or make us feel badly. I apologized profusely because it was an honest mistake and I usually don't enter a place with less than two hours to eat and drink. But they were really accommodating. This place has a fun vibe. You definitely come here for the ambiance. We were a large group (9 people) so we had to get the pre fix menu and we had a 1.5 hour time limit. The pre fix included: - dips and bread (quite nice, the red dip was my favorite) (4/5) - salad (3.5/5) - cabbage "steak" and lamb - since I don't eat meat I only tried the cabbage steak but I thought it was quite tasty! (4/5) - two types of fries and dip (3.5/5) - mouse dessert with pistachios and coconut (3.5/5) For drinks I got the Maggie (4.5/5) I thought this was very refreshing - I ended up reordering :). What a riot this place is! You feel like you are transported to a different time and place. The supper-club vibe needs to make a comeback. I'd rate Turk's Inn three and a half stars. We started with the fried cheese curds which were ultra rich and savory. Then for the main course we shared the lamb shank with fries and broccolini. This is a beautiful restaurant connected to the Sultan Room venue in Bushwick. The Turks Inn was started by a couple in Minnesota in 1930s and brought to Brooklyn with much of the furniture. The food was also amazing: crispy chickpeas, hummus plate, cheese curds, curried cauliflower and drinks were all outstanding. Highly recommend this place if you're seeing a show or just eating out. Went to Turks Inn last night for the first time--arrived right at 5pm when they opened, with a reservation. The interior was nice, great vibe, and we were two of only four people in there at the start of the night. The server seemed to be hovering a bit, but my friend and I were excited to see each other before figuring out our drink order. We finally put that in. The server came back with the drinks and immediately told us a big party was coming in after us and asked if we wanted to put our entrées in ahead of them. This was only twenty minutes in, around 5:20. Then they started setting up a whole row of steam-table pans right next to us--like two feet away. The restaurant was still mostly empty. My friend and I got our drinks and some food for the table. We were enjoying ourselves, but I could still feel the hovering. The server returned and asked again if we wanted entrées, but we ordered another round instead. Time passed, we were relaxing and enjoying everything, until a different server came over and said she needed the table. She laid out "what would happen": she'd give us about five minutes and then be back with the bill. When she returned she said something along the lines of, "Wow, you guys really made a night of it without even getting entrées," which came off pretty passive-aggressive. She handed us the bill and gave a half-hearted apology, acknowledging she was hustling us out. Then: "Can I get you a Grinch shot? It'll make your heart grow twice as big." My friend and I stared at each astonished, it sounded like something you'd hear at Applebee's, but we said okay. She brought the shot and instructed us to down it in one go. We sipped it--it was gross. "No no, you have to down it, you can't sip it," she insisted, admitting it was gross. She said that next time we came back the experience would be different, basically confirming that what we just had was off and honestly terrible. They could have invited us to the bar where there was plenty of room, or scheduled better, or handled this in a dozen other ways. But instead, after cocktails and food, they rushed us out with a gross frat-party shot, and that's the taste we left with. The whole experience soured our Saturday night. read more

A truly unique dining experience in Bushwick. Feels like you are anywhere but NYC, in a really cool way. Love the history of this restaurant, and the in depth back story they have on their menu. The decor is out there, loud, and full of character. The cross section of Turkish food and midwestern American food (think cheese curds) is the hybrid you didn't know you needed. I ordered the steak frites as a main which was delicious largely due to the tasty butter based sauce it had on top. This place's decor is undeniably quirky and fun. This place is so Bushwick, my parents started paying my rent so that I could pursue my career as an urban butterfly breeder as soon as I stepped into the establishment. Food went from good to okay from start to finish. Cheese cloud is dope with the pita chips (nice dusting of za'atar I think). The Turkish breads were really nice with a lemon butter that provided a nice bit of zing. Lamb meatballs for the entree were, admittedly, off the chain with sauce that we drizzled onto our rice pilaf (nice touch on the fried garbanzos, but I, too, can make rice at home for not 7 dollars) - unfortunately there weren't more of them. Skewers were a huge letdown on all fronts - charred and bland. Sauces all kinda tasted similarly. Quantity was almost there, but I think this is how prices are kept reasonable. Service was good enough. One of the runners put a fez hat on me. It was a highlight. Drinks took forever but were good, and food was served at appropriate temperature. They sat us at a table in the doorway of the restaurant on a very cold day and we were freezing! We asked to be moved but were denied even though there were other 2-tops available. As concession, we were offered the little sampler platter pro bono, but this was just dried things and pickled vegetables. I have both these things in my fridge and pantry. The point is that you can't touch this place for a reservation and it's basically a mediocre restaurant with really cool decorations and a lot of hype. I guess it's because pricing isn't completely out of wack and the venue provides much in the way of readymade instagram content. The food is okay-to-good. The crowd is insufferable and loud for a place that seems to attract large groups, yet not be conducive to large groups. Solid 3/5 would go back if it was for a friend's birthday or something but not else wise. read more

This place is whimsical and has crazy decorations. Everywhere you look has something outrageous, including clowns, various birds and old photos. The food itself was great. The Turkish bread basket was a little expensive since I am used to complimentary bread. But the creamed butter is to die for. It came with 3 types including half a simit. The 4 dips appetizer was alright. The Harissa one was best, but the rest were solid as well. It came with a ton of veggies. The moussaka was also solid but not so outstanding that I would run back for it. The best part of the meal was the chicken kebab. It was juicy, tender, and flavorful. Don't make our mistake and only order one. I wish we got 3-4 instead of the moussaka more because it was so delicious. We ended our meal with a pot of black tea. While the dining room at Turk's Inn is closed for now, the rooftop, known as The Sultan Room is still the place to see and be seen, with their rotating DJ's, excellent frozen cocktails, and chill, Bushwick crowd. Can get pretty crowded here but we've gone with a big group to commandeer a corner of tables so there's always a home base to return to when you need to take a break from the dance floor. I haven't tried any of their food, but I love the servers and the cocktails. I first visited on a sweltering summer day before the mandate requiring proof of vaccination at restaurants, but The Sultan Room was keeping their customers extra safe by asking for this proof even before the mandate, and even for their rooftop. Made me feel that much more comfortable dancing my socks off, cocktail in hand. Check their calendar for upcoming events, but you can just trust fall it and know it's always a good time in the Sultan Room. read more

This 1934 Midwest family run favorite has come and everyone could not be more excited. The minute I saw this place, I was in awe! Something about a Turkish kitsch vibe with stellar food and drinks and maybe a giant painting of a gorgeous cat that maked me go ga ga over this place. My partner in crime, Sam is always down to try out new places with me. She was the perfect person to come with and splurge. We shared some of small plates, the crudité plate with various dips, the octopus and monkfish skewers, falafel balls in mushroom sauce, a bread plate with olive oil and for dessert the Baked Alaska could not be beat. We started with some Turkish influenced cocktails. They were not overly sweet, small but packed a punch of flavor and booze. Mine was the Margie, tequila, cucumber, lime, coconut milk, sumac and chili tincture. Bold, beautiful flavors that held hand in hand. My tastebuds were on cloud nine. I have to mention that I was a sucker for the fez hat shaped menus. The attention to detail at this place is spectacular. Turk's Inn has become so popular that they only wanted to give us an hour for the table. It was gonna be tight and maybe sacrifices would have to be made. Lucky for us, they never kicked us out. And we went over thirty minutes. You can't rush enjoyment. The crudite was fresh and delicious with every dip. The falafels were fried but not oily. The octopus was to die for. Highly recommend getting the skewers. The cherry on top in my eyes was dessert. It was decadent, chocolate, cold and also creamy goodness shaped as a volcano. I loved the chocolate crumb at the base. You were able to get textures and temps mixed into one bite. I was craving the seating with the cat portrait but it was saved for larger groups. I can foresee a slew of birthdays and maybe some proposals happening at this spot. They day we went, it was raining but the rooftop was insane. An oasis in the rugged Bushwick neighborhood. Word on the street is that there will be live music or other entertainment up there while sipping cocktails. I would recommend putting in a reservation. This place will be easily discovered and devoured. After I posted a pic , my friend even told me that her grandparents were regulars at the original restaurant. It was their first opening day. Great place - wow that speakeasy club in the back will make your jaw drop I just hate that it's in bushwick. The hipster crowd is just so not it The food options are good . Hummus was great. I like lamb but did not enjoy all the fatty pieces on the rib. Turk's is a fine dining experience and more. It's a journey though all your senses. The outside does stand out a little for the strip but it does nothing to prepare you for inside. First thing you notice when entering is the low light with a red cast. Then your eyes just go all over and are overwhelmed in a good way. So many layers of whatever all over the place. The bar acts at main anchor downstairs. There's tassles and lights handing from the ceiling of the bar. From there you may notice cat room booth or the wall of photos that include JFK to Nefertiti. It's not tacky and works to add to the experience. The drink menu is in the shape of a Fez hat and a couple stand out drinks are Date Me and Smurf Juice. To tie into the Smurf Juice, one of the restrooms are decorated with Smurfs...even on the ceiling. The drinks were good and strong. Foodwise....well you can't go wrong. The eggplant dish has cilantro and sliced almonds with sesame seeds. Great flavor and combo. The lemon pilaf was bread basket witj a wonderful surprise and the butter had great flavor with lemon folded in. The lamb meat balls were cooker well with lots of flavor. There are some red peppers in this in case you are spicy sensitive. Also had the chicken, brussel sprouts and shrimp kabobs. The shrimp was cooked so perfect and subtle. It was soft. And not overcooked rubbery. It even has a clove flavor to it's base. Never had cloves like that in food. In all this place hit on all the sense and was a joyful journey. So fun. I had tickets to a show in the adjoining music venue and decided to eat while I waited for the doors to open. I'm a lazy vegan- got the relish tray that they adapted to take away the yogurt, and the "Dew Drop Cabbage" as my entree which did have a little yogurt, along with sunflower sprouts which tasted like little noodles. The cabbage tasted like smoked turkey (pun not intended), and the sun chokes were just perfect. Had a few cocktails- The Margie is a winner- coconut and cucumber with a splash of tequila. The atmosphere is great- low colorful lighting, fun glassware, offbeat music (at least for me) that was modern but fitting. Service was stellar. Actually will be coming back tomorrow for another show and dinner. Oh- dessert- White Chocolate Budino- not sure what it is other than it is dairy (lazy vegan) it had pistachio and rose, light but hit the spot. read more

I've eaten at Turks Inn twice now, with a party of 4 and a party of 15. Both experiences were excellent from food, to drinks, to vibe, to service. The food is excellent, I've sampled the majority of the current menu and a few stand outs are the house salad (olives, herbs, cucumbers, preserved lemon, feta, and pomegranate seeds); the dip sampler of labne, muhammara, hummus, & olives which comes with a basket of incredible light, fluffy bread; the lamb, which is succulent and tender; the pickle plate of assorted pickled veggies. They also have delicious and well made cocktails that rotate. I recently tried the "salty apricot," which was akin to an apricot martini with a hint of salt, super different and really tasty. Both times I've had the same server, who's name has escaped me, but she has been lovely; quick, efficient, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. The roof top is also really nice to grab a drink and dance. I have yet to go to the sultan's room in until back for an event, but it's on my list!
