Now, in my defense, I was not the one shopping for "concert air" devices, I was simply showing a "friend" from out of town around and "she" happened to need to go in here to buy a gift for a "friend," but really, we all know it was for "her." Anyhoo, in we came and looked at the plentiful amounts of pipes and smoking utensils that came in all shapes and sizes. I love this place, I've been going here for years. Even though I no longer live in the neighbourhood I make it a point to come here. The guy who I usually see there, I think his name is Sam? Great arms! Always very personable and friendly. The last time I was there I was looking for a torch. There were several in the case, and I pointed and said something like "that black..." and before I could finish, he'd pulled out the one I wanted. I made a joke about him reading minds, he laughed when I told him I'd probably be in trouble if he could (I think he's insanely hot!) Next time I'll have to ask him which of the sex toys is his favourite... Always a great experience here, I'll definitely be back! I've frequented this shop off and on for ten years, but their staff is rather rude toward someone who spends hundreds in their when visiting. I've been disallowed to use my credit card because the store owner tried telling me my passport was not me. In spite providing two other proofs of identification that bore a photo but was a non-governmental form of ID, their refused to allow me to make my purchase. It was insulting to be told that I wasn't allowed to purchase merchandise their in spite providing three forms of ID and a valid credit card. I eventually settled on performing a PIN transaction because I wanted the item; however, I would have preferred my rewards points. Apparently, even cash is also an issue here as well. I've been accused of trying to pass counterfeit bills at this store because of my habit of examining the serial numbers of money. The yahoos here are unaware of currency worth more than face-value, and I was accused of making up some - - - - - - bull- - - - because of my numismatic hobby and the fact that I take interest in collecting currency. Lets see. Start with 5 stars... Location? Awesome! 5 stars Selection? Lots of stuff, but nothing you can't find at 100 other smoke shops in The City. -1 star =4 Prices? Same as everyone else. Like porn/adult toys, most everyone sells for full suggested retail. -1 star =3 Staff knowledgable about products they sell? Again, same as most everyone else (ie no one knows anything except what you can already see/read on the package). -1 star =2 Deserving of my repeat business/$$$? I love E-Cigs and -- until recently -- this was the closest place to my house to buy them. I have spent a considerable amount of money here over the last two years on e-cigs and accessories. I've even referred a couple friends there who were new to vaping. However, now that there are a few stores in San Francisco that specialize in e-cigs (Vapor Den, Vapor City), I have "seen the light" so to speak and have come to the sad realization that I've been paying 30-40% more than I should. I also want to concur with a number of the other reviews in that their quality of their merchandize is often substandard. I've purchased a number of e-cigs that have had dead batteries and accessories that have been broken and trying to get them replaced isn't worth the hassle. Beyond that, the people who work here are at best unhelpful, but often straight-up rude. Despite being a consistent customer, they often make me feel like I'm annoying them. Too many questions are met with eye rolls and a condescending tone. This all sort-of culminated today, when I went in to buy some juice for my vape pen. Like the other vape stores, they have testers so you can taste them before you buy. I liked the first flavor I tried, but it was out of stock. I asked to taste a second one, guy just walked away and started helping another customer. When he came back to me around 5 minutes later, I asked him if I could taste a different flavor, to which he angrily responded "Oh c'mon ... like you've never TRIED all these flavors before?" Since they didn't have the one I wanted, and I didn't feel like begging for his help, I politely said, "Thanks for your help ... but I think I'm good for now" and started walking out of the store. As I was leaving, he *angrily* blurted out "You're not going to BUY ANYTHING?! Thanks for WASTING MY TIME!" I am still kind of reeling from this strangely confrontational exchange. but needless to say -- despite its proximity to my house -- I will be walking the few extra blocks to buy my e-cigs from now on. There's like a million other head shops in SF ... I strongly suggest you patronize a less abusive one that doesn't over-charge you for shitty merch. read more

Then I asked for them to wrap the 2 bongs, as they're glass. He seemed....confused. He handed me the 2 bongs but without the bowls. Went home, noticed he didn't pack the bowls with the bongs, and had to go back. Then back home, fill one of them with water, and guess what? LEAKS. The bong was not made properly and leaks. So, my boyfriend goes back to swap it out. And, they refuse to do so. After all that, after spending close to $200 on an easy sale for 2 bongs, these assholes are not letting me swap outa defective bong? Oh, HELL NO. IMMEDIATELY called my bank for a charge-back. Went in to buy a vaporizer and the guy there- Sam was very helpful and very patient. He recommended a really good model and the best/popular flavors to get started. Checked on the Internet and the prices were quite competitive but of course higher in store. Only downside was no liquid testers available so had to choose blind. Overall a pleasant experience and a well stocked store but I prefer places that are dedicated to vape. Pretty sure there is a sex toy shop in the back. read more

Im only rating this 2 stars for this exact reason. Couple of days ago these guys sold me a vapor battery and a new tank for 35. I regret my choice as these guys have no clue about vapor products and they just need to stop selling period when it comes to vapor products My battery i bought was poorly made and the tank was crap. Okay, so I've been going to the Twilight Zone for over 10 years whenever I need small supplies or a water pipe breaks after years of use. I HAD always had a good experience and it was easier than driving up to the Haight since I lived in the Castro. HOWEVER, this time I was up-sold to buy a three chamber water pipe for $87. I had it for 7 days and then inner glass pieces in the second chamber literally just broke and fell off. I was really pissed because I hadn't broken it and clearly the glass was faulty. So, I brought it back to the store and explained that I had it for less than 10 days. The owner wasn't there and the guy who was left in charge said that I should just come back on another day to speak with the owner because there's a sign that says "No Refunds. No Exchanges". I would assume that applies when the merchandise is NOT FAULTY. He was very rude and offered no other assistance. When I explained that I didn't have another hour to spare on a different day to simply try to exchange the pipe he just had a big stupid grin and did nothing. I was really stunned considering I'm a normal person who had spent a lot of money at his store over a long period of time. Now I'm stuck with a 2 week old broken piece of crap for $87. THIS PLACE BITES. DON'T EVER SHOP HERE. DON'T GIVE THEM A DIME. THEY SELL FAULTY MERCHANDISE and cheat you out of your hard earned money. NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER GO HERE. I've come to this smoke shop since I was 16 and skating up in the city back in the '90s. I always thought it was cool when I moved into the same neighborhood as my old smoke shop! It has changed. He sold me a whole big box of grape Swishers at a good price. They also have some cool novelty products. This is a great place to buy someone a birthday gift or to buy something for yourself. The place is wheelchair accessible, but the guy behind the counter was about as helpful as a grapefruit. All I wanted was a replacement gasket and down-stem for my old bong, and he said he didn't carry parts but tried to sell me one of his over-priced cheaply made glass thangs. So I asked if there was some other place in town that carried parts, and all he had to offer was, "Check around on Market Street." Telling two new customers in wheelchairs that wasn't the least bit helpful. If anything, it was insulting. We'll never go there again. Not even if you paid us to. Who needs that kind of condescending, dismissive attitude anyway? Tonight we called both Pipe Dreams and Good Fellas and each store told us they could help us find the parts in their establishments. Came in here today looking for a vaporizer. The employees were really friendly and the shop is very clean and organized. The one guy that was helping us was very knowledgable about all the different types of vaporizers and really took the time to show us all the different ones and explain the differences in them. We weren't prepared to spend $200 so we didn't make a purchase but they had an excellent selection of all types of things and we will definitely be back next time we are in this neighborhood. read more

I bought a vapor pen here, it stopped workimg within 3 weeks. I bought a cheaper pen, so when I return to the store to inquire in regards to why my pen stopped working. The gentleman (who claims to be the owner) explained that it was a cheaper model and recommended me to spend over $70 on a battery is that would as he put it "last forever" it sure looked fancy so I gave it a try. Whose pen stopped working after 3 days.I returned to the store with the receipts and was told that there was nothing they would do to help me. A young gentleman working at the store told me to come back when the manager is available. I'll give it a try but after having so many defective devices come from their location it's fairly easy to assume that they're paying less to get refurbished devices so that they can I make a higher profit margin and as far as getting a manager involved, Im only goimg to assume he will deny me an exchange, ill give them one last chance tomorrow 12/27/14 to see if they stand bwhind their product, or if a portion of their success includes no additional service after the sale? First favorite in the mission for customer service, second favorite for selection. This is a big store with the typical offerings. A decent selection and moderate prices for San Francisco. Catering to more the Castro than the Mission IMO, this shop has had everything I have ever gone there looking for. The staff has always been very friendly to me, engaging in conversation about my items of just small talk, and always recognize me when I come in. The owner even gave me a few samples of various things they sell to give my opinion on them as a "Reliable customer". All of this tells me that they are actually interested in making me a happy customer which goes a long way in this city of aloof, too-hip-for-their-own-good CSRs. If someone asked me which shop to hit up, I'd probably recommend. All in all, the only reason they get 4 stars instead of 5 is price which, while not the most expensive, is not cheap either, and knowledge...the staff is interested in their products but not always as informed as I had hoped to answer questions about certain items.
