This place is good. I was here to pick up MAD Donuts and also grabbed a coffee. The staff was friendly and helpful. They had an assortment of treats and drinks. I'd definitely come back to look around more. The decor and ambiance was cozy and relaxed, too.

I couldn't ignore today's beautiful weather, and I was craving a coffee, so I decided to stop by Twisted Branch for the first time. I just wanted to give a shout-out to the barista working today; the iced vanilla latte was delicious! They also do cold brews, which I'll have to try next time. The storefront also has a huge selection of oils and vinegar products for the avid cook/ foodie, and there's plenty of street parking nearby.

I've been played! All I've ever bought were conventional olive oils from "major" Italian brands. I've done EVERYTHING with olive oil: cooked with it, baked brownies with it even do my weekend hair masks. Yes. I. Have! And all this time, I thought I was doing something really great and healthy for my body. Aside from all the news about what's real Olive oil or not, and all the politics surrounding olive oil, it's now in the open and turns out, all those "major Italian" brands are fakes! Twisted Branch has been in Valhalla since April of 2015 (I believe). It's adorable on the outside as it is inside. It's a really cute shop. Layout is small but really showcases what they're known for. Twisted also has a small coffee station towards the back and in addition to their coffee, they have a great tea selection. I was completely blown away by all their olive oils and the rest of their other products such as their infused salts, balsamic vinegars and honeys. Rich broke it down for me and explained to me the different types of olive oils and sampled two of theirs. Taste is like no other. It's such a lovely and cool addition to Valhalla. Their oils are on the expensive side, but they're not going to break your pocket. To also note, you're getting healthy, genuine taste and most importantly, quality.

Just stopped by (Saturday 945am) and it was closed. Have the hours changed?

Hi Shawn. Sorry about that. No our hours have not changed but there was a power outage in town today. We actually were there at 9:00 a.m. but with the power out all the lights were off so it probably looked like nobody was there. We ended up closing… Read more

Parking took a little patience, as both the front spots and lot across the street were full, but we secured street parking on a second pass. From the outside it feels intimate, almost modest. Step inside and it opens up into a surprisingly spacious dining room, with a hallway leading to additional seating in the back. Service was attentive and polished throughout. They start you with eggplant caponata, a welcoming touch. We shared the Four Cheese Arancini and a grilled calamari and shrimp special, both well executed. I ordered the Bucatini all'Amatriciana, the daily special and one of my favorites, and it delivered with depth and balance. My wife's Pappardelle del Bosco, finished with truffle oil, was rich and aromatic. Espresso and a house-made amaro to close sealed the experience. A strong first visit. We'll be back, especially for the Chicken Scarpariello I keep hearing about.

Our server didn't greet us and instead immediately asked what we wanted to order...less than five minutes after being seated, before we had even looked at the menus or been asked if we wanted drinks. We told him we'd like to start with drinks, and although he reluctantly took the order, he returned a few minutes later empty-handed and again asked us to place our full order, without even bringing the cocktails to the table first. It felt rushed and disorganized right from the start. Throughout the evening, every interaction felt pressured, despite the restaurant not appearing particularly busy, which made what should have been a relaxed birthday dinner feel uncomfortable. When our first round of drinks was finished, he never once came back to ask if we wanted another round, which was surprising given the setting and price point. The most surprising part was learning that our server was the owner/chef's son. When we casually asked who Padre Pio was, he couldn't answer, which felt like a missed opportunity to share the story behind the restaurant. As for the meal, the total came to about $500 for cocktails, wine, four appetizers (grilled calamari, baked clams, eggplant rollatini, and insalata di campania), and entrées including ravioli, spaghetti Padre Pio, chicken scarpariello, and branzino, with sides of mushrooms and escarole and beans. While some dishes were decent, others fell short--particularly the spaghetti Padre Pio, which was overly soft and lacked texture. The ravioli also tasted very similar to JB & Sons from Yonkers. The clams were mushy and overly saturated in oil. I did enjoy the eggplant rollatini. The complimentary eggplant caponata was oddly sweet. The menu itself was oddly presented. I've never seen chicken scarpariello listed with add-ons and separate pricing depending on whether you want it on or off the bone or with sausage, it felt more like ordering a pizza with toppings than ordering from what's supposed to be an elevated Italian menu. It cheapened the overall experience rather than enhancing it. Service issues continued throughout the meal. When our entrées were brought out, no serving utensils or extra plates were provided. When he later asked if we wanted new plates, he simply dropped a stack on the side of the table rather than setting them properly, which felt inattentive and unprofessional. Additionally, the bus staff were overly aggressive when clearing the table. At one point, a busboy dropped dirty utensils directly onto my friend's lap and into her purse that was next to me. To top it off, instead of offering us a dessert menu, a piece of cheesecake was simply brought out alongside the check. After spending this amount of money, especially for a birthday celebration, this felt dismissive and frankly rude, as it removed the opportunity to choose or enjoy dessert as part of the experience. Moments later, the lights were turned on, making it very clear we were no longer welcome to sit and enjoy the end of the evening. Overall, for the price point and the occasion, we expected a much more welcoming and attentive dining experience. Unfortunately, the service and pacing overshadowed the meal.

As for the food, everything was great. My mother in law had the whole branzino which was fresh and perfectly cooked and seasoned. My seafood rice dish had plenty of shrimp and scallops and included lobster. It was a huge portion. My wife's ribeye was perfectly cooked medium rare. We came on a Saturday night around 8:00pm and the restaurant was packed, with diners filling every room and even the bar area. Thankfully we had reservations and were seated right away. Parking can get tight on busy nights, so we used the valet, which made things easier. We started with a table favorite, chouriço, perfect for sharing while settling in. I ordered one of my go-to Portuguese dishes, Carne à Alentejana, tender cubes of pork loin sautéed with little neck clams, wine, and fresh cilantro. It delivered exactly what I was hoping for, savory, balanced, and deeply comforting. Others at the table enjoyed the broiled Mediterranean octopus and the Chilean sea bass with caper sauce, both well prepared. Service was attentive throughout, and they even offer to take a table photo for you. Portions are generous, the dining room is spotless, and the classic crumb-scraping after the meal is a nice old-school touch. Short of heading to Newark's Portuguese enclave, this is one of the best options in the area.
