Giovanni's Italian Deli has been on my hubby's list to try the last few times we've been in New York. On a planned trip up to Vermont, we finally made it a point to stop by on our drive. We were there a little before opening and a small line had already formed. Once they opened, we took our time to figure out what to order. Most of the staff were really friendly. One of the guys was not pleasant. He seemed super annoyed with every customer and then we had to hear him complain to all of his coworkers about how he wasn't supposed to open that morning. I get it; no one wants to be in that position. However, all of the customers don't have to be subjected to the poor attitude, especially since this place is obviously popular due their social media presence. Other than this one sour apple, the rest of our experience was great! Giovanni's Italian Deli is an intimately sized sandwich shop in White Plains, New York. They are located in an area with other businesses and there is free parking shared among the nearby shops. The establishment doesn't have any indoor seating, although they do have a few chairs and table outside if you want to eat on site. We ordered a total of three sandwiches: - Joe Rogan - The Famous Bronx Godfather - The Summer Bruschetta All of the sandwiches were great. Definitely crafted well with generous portions on the inside of all of the sandwiches. We watched them make the mozzarella fresh while waiting to order and for our sandwiches to be made. The guy making the mozzarella, Johnny, even gave my family samples. He made a little small portion for our toddler. Truly an awesome experience with quality sandwiches. The Summer Bruschetta was my sandwich and I can only hope it becomes something permanent on their menu! It goes without saying that, aside from the one rude staff member, our first trip to Giovanni's Italian Deli was memorable. My husband was so happy about the "sangwheeches" and is already talking about how we'll have to fit another trip to White Plains during our next visit New York. We decided to try Giovanni's deli in our way to Hanover, NH . We are from NM and it was on our way to Foxwoods Casino. We are a combined family of twelve and it was on our way. Our family ordered a #13,#17, #5 and a . The sandwiches were good. We should have ordered the rolls that weren't seeded but it was still good. We tried other sandwiches in the group as well. I really enjoyed the roast beef but went back in to ask for mustard which I always enjoy with my roast beef(Again I should have asked for more pickles, banana peppers and mustard) . I like my sandwiches with a punch of dilly and vinegar mix. The other thing is we should have ordered the meatball as a hot hero. Like I said it was a great stop and definitely worth the money. Service was as expected since it was all hangout and wrapped. Sodas are in a cooler which is self serve. After seeing videos about this deli every time I go on TikTok I decided to give it a try. I wasn't impressed. I ordered two wedges that were recommended by the staff there and they were mediocre at best. The price for these two wedges was $42.00!!!!! Hell no!!! I'll stick to Anthony's Deli in Mamaroneck NY. You get hulking sandwiches there that are delicious and at 1990's prices. I will not be returning to Giovanni's Deli again, but his videos are still entertaining. read more

In NY for my goddaughters graduation. Stayed in a hotel in Yonkers during my stay. Very looking forward to try this place with all the videos on YouTube of Giovanni Paolo making this super sandwiches. Decided on the famous Bronx Godfather hero sandwich and did it live up to its name. The sandwich was super delicious and felt very heavy. Took me 2 days to eat it. I overheard Giovanni telling some patrons outside not to eat the whole thing because they were guaranteed to fall asleep and wow after eating one half of the sandwich I did want to fall asleep. The sandwich very delicious. You can taste the flavors of all the ingredients especially that fresh mozzarella and this sun dried peppers. Do the sandwiches live up to the hype in the online videos? Absolutely! Is the taste, freshness, portion size and variety of sandwich types worth the visit? Definitely! Will the staff, atmosphere and presentation of the shop reflect these things? Not so much...but it's still definitely worth the visit. I had the Mr. Gallina-Mr. Chicken: which was a 12 inch hoagie roll with crispy chicken cutlets, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, and balsamic glaze. I asked them to add arugula to it and they did. It was so good! This was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in New York and I was born and raised there. Seriously their balsamic glaze is next level-if they bottled it and sold it, I'd buy it! And the way it soaked right down to the mozzarella, chicken and bread, was fantastic! Just know that the staff are okay and the service is fast but they're low energy and not too welcoming. Not knocking them-they probably are so tired from the store being busy. Better go when there's a crowd otherwise the employees don't care to give you good service. I've been to half the delis in the county, nothing better than a deli sandwich for lunch. Their food is OK but mixed with poor service, unsanitary conditions (hair in my food, touching cash with your gloves on) and absurd prices the shop is a zero. So it's a marketing scheme with Giovanni serving good sandwiches when they can film a tik tok video but not when a local comes in for lunch on a Saturday. We came in for a sandwich after seeing the establishment on social media. The line was long, but moved relatively quickly. While waiting, the owner shared fresh mozzarella samples with everyone. The menu is huge and a bit overwhelming, but that's where the long line comes in handy. I ordered the original Italian and it was delicious! They do not skimp on the meats and toppings. My wife and I were traveling back to Virginia from Connecticut after seeing family, and after seeing the viral videos, we made it a point to stop and get some Sangwheeches. When we walked in, Giovanni was hand making the fresh Mozzarella and took the time to talk with the customers and taking pictures with them. He also threw out free samples of the Mozzarella once it was finished. My wife got The Virgin Mary (Fried Eggplant, Mozzarella,Arugula,Roasted Peppers, Balsamic Glaze) and I got the Shine Box (Chicken Cutlets, Soppressata,Fresh Mozzarella, tri color peppers, Oil and Vinegar) and they were both DELICIOUS. Fair warning, they are big enough for 2 meals so prepare accordingly, but very fair pricing for the portions. The deli was small and crowded, but to be expected given the popularity and timing we stopped (late lunch rush). We will definitely be back when we travel north again and will be bringing a cooler to bring the Mozzarella and cold cuts back with us. read more

My family and I have watch Giovanni online and we're so excited to try a "Sangweech"! We are from New York originally, but moved out of state, and we were passing through the area, and had time to stop by for lunch. I ordered a chicken parm sub "the Italian flag", and it's a $24 sandwich. You could not taste the vodka sauce even though it was drenched in it or the pesto sauce. The chicken cutlet was horrible! So soggy and it had bones in it! The best part was the mozzarella cheese. My husband got the Rockin Robin, and said the ciabatta bread was very tough (than normal), it was very dry and needed more sauce. My father got the Bronx Godfather, my father said the size was good, but the sandwich was just ok. I am not one to write a low star review, unless I believe it deserves that. I would think twice before visiting here, unfortunately. What can I say if this my last meal on the planet I would leave following a perfect sandwich!

The owner is a great showman; he really knows how to engage with customers and creates an inviting atmosphere. His energy and personality are a big part of the experience. The sandwiches he posts online look absolutely incredible. The kind of food that makes you want to eat your screen. That said, the in-person experience didn't quite match the hype for me. On my second visit during Memorial Day weekend, I was disappointed to find the bread stale and the cutlets and eggplant bland and soggy. The portion sizes are also much smaller than he posts shown on social media. I'd say this place has more hype than actual quality. I still think it's worth checking out at least once, but personally, I'll stick to enjoying his videos online. read more

We had excellent sandwiches here today. I tried to call a few times and it didn't go through but then it finally did. I called in our sammies at around 4 pm on a Sat in October and they told me about 20 mins. I got in and the image of the main guy on the door behind scared me slightly. That's my comment for ambiance. I had to remind myself a few times that it was just an image. The sammies were ready and I was on my way back home. They were very very tasty. The use of the word "fresh" before the word mozzarella finally comes true. No more folklore. We loved the sandwiches. Too soon for a follow up? Nope!!! This place is the bomb!!! Giovanni is the man!!! Seen his Gladiator on TikTok and had to stop in and get it!!! As always, welcoming feel right when you walk in! Giovanni, has a huge smile and his concern for all his customers is outstanding!!! Right after peek lunch and the guy was still cooking like crazy!! Making up Pasta Fagioli! And then handing everyone in the place a little helping of it! Yes it was amazing! As well as the bit of Chicken cutlet he also gave out to everyone. Fresh and hot!!! AMAZING!!! Where do I start... This was my 3rd trip to the deli. First 2X I ordered CAPRESE on a roll & it was absolutely delicious! Soft rolls, lots of yummy ripe tomatoes, piled with fresh mozzarella, lots of basil, right amount of olive oil & a pinch of salt. This was when the deli first opened. Well not the case this week. Hard stale roll tasted like cardboard, one slice of tomato, one slice of not so thick mozzarella, 2 basil leaves, NO OLIVE OIL & NO SALT. Ordered 2 of these CAPRESE sandwiches & both sucked.
