Dinner with my wife finally brought us to a spot we've been meaning to try. It was busy inside, but with a reservation we were seated promptly. Parking took a little patience, as both the front spots and lot across the street were full, but we secured street parking on a second pass. From the outside it feels intimate, almost modest. Step inside and it opens up into a surprisingly spacious dining room, with a hallway leading to additional seating in the back. Service was attentive and polished throughout. They start you with eggplant caponata, a welcoming touch. We shared the Four Cheese Arancini and a grilled calamari and shrimp special, both well executed. I ordered the Bucatini all'Amatriciana, the daily special and one of my favorites, and it delivered with depth and balance. My wife's Pappardelle del Bosco, finished with truffle oil, was rich and aromatic. Espresso and a house-made amaro to close sealed the experience. A strong first visit. We'll be back, especially for the Chicken Scarpariello I keep hearing about. read more

We came here to celebrate my best friend's birthday and unfortunately left disappointed with the overall experience. From the moment we sat down, the service set the tone. Our server didn't greet us and instead immediately asked what we wanted to order...less than five minutes after being seated, before we had even looked at the menus or been asked if we wanted drinks. We told him we'd like to start with drinks, and although he reluctantly took the order, he returned a few minutes later empty-handed and again asked us to place our full order, without even bringing the cocktails to the table first. It felt rushed and disorganized right from the start. Throughout the evening, every interaction felt pressured, despite the restaurant not appearing particularly busy, which made what should have been a relaxed birthday dinner feel uncomfortable. When our first round of drinks was finished, he never once came back to ask if we wanted another round, which was surprising given the setting and price point. The most surprising part was learning that our server was the owner/chef's son. When we casually asked who Padre Pio was, he couldn't answer, which felt like a missed opportunity to share the story behind the restaurant. As for the meal, the total came to about $500 for cocktails, wine, four appetizers (grilled calamari, baked clams, eggplant rollatini, and insalata di campania), and entrées including ravioli, spaghetti Padre Pio, chicken scarpariello, and branzino, with sides of mushrooms and escarole and beans. While some dishes were decent, others fell short--particularly the spaghetti Padre Pio, which was overly soft and lacked texture. The ravioli also tasted very similar to JB & Sons from Yonkers. The clams were mushy and overly saturated in oil. I did enjoy the eggplant rollatini. The complimentary eggplant caponata was oddly sweet. The menu itself was oddly presented. I've never seen chicken scarpariello listed with add-ons and separate pricing depending on whether you want it on or off the bone or with sausage, it felt more like ordering a pizza with toppings than ordering from what's supposed to be an elevated Italian menu. It cheapened the overall experience rather than enhancing it. Service issues continued throughout the meal. When our entrées were brought out, no serving utensils or extra plates were provided. When he later asked if we wanted new plates, he simply dropped a stack on the side of the table rather than setting them properly, which felt inattentive and unprofessional. Additionally, the bus staff were overly aggressive when clearing the table. At one point, a busboy dropped dirty utensils directly onto my friend's lap and into her purse that was next to me. To top it off, instead of offering us a dessert menu, a piece of cheesecake was simply brought out alongside the check. After spending this amount of money, especially for a birthday celebration, this felt dismissive and frankly rude, as it removed the opportunity to choose or enjoy dessert as part of the experience. Moments later, the lights were turned on, making it very clear we were no longer welcome to sit and enjoy the end of the evening. Overall, for the price point and the occasion, we expected a much more welcoming and attentive dining experience. Unfortunately, the service and pacing overshadowed the meal. read more

Best Chicken Scarp you'll find anywhere. Get it on the bone and with the sausage and you won't regret it, if you don't mind a little heat. The eggplant caponata and bread are always a great start. This place was nice, with a few missteps, but overall, it earned 4 stars. The restaurant has two areas with the real dining room in the back. It's got a rustic feel. They weren't busy when we went so the back only had a few tables taken. The staff is nice and attentive. They were warm and familiar, which suits the vibe. There are definitely a few off putting things in their menu, which is a shame because it sort of set the evening on a sour note. The menu has a note about charging 4% for credit cards due to the credit card company fees, but then also includes "you can always pay cash!" For a more upscale restaurant, what seemed an admonition for paying with a credit card was ridiculous. If they feel that strongly, they could choose to be cash only, but they know most people pay with credit card. For a restaurant of this price point, offering a discount for those paying in cash is less offensive than punishing people paying with credit card. In addition, on all the entrées, there was a note that substitutions would cost extra. It felt aggressive being listed next to each and every single entrée. Just put a note at the bottom of the menu. As the menu is the first thing that customers interact with, it definitely set a negative tone. We ordered the meatball appetizer, the spaghettoni padre pío (one of their signature dishes), and the chicken scarpiello. They also bring an eggplant caponata with two kinds of bread as a complimentary start to the meal. The caponata was fine. There was nothing particularly special about it. We asked if they made it in house, and we were told that it was. They informed us that they also sold jars of it, so my guess would be that they don't make it fresh for dinner service, but that they use what they've already made. Again, it was perfectly fine, but nothing special. It was a little oily and a little sweet, which is common for items that are jarred and need to have a shelf life. They offered us more bread and brought us a second serving of it, and the second serving was actually less sweet and less oily, so my guess is that it was either more freshly made or a different jar. They also brought a jar of olive oil, and the olive oil was pretty flavorless, and just not what you would expect from a good Italian restaurant. If you are giving olive oil with bread at an Italian restaurant, it should be excellent olive oil. Clearly the caponata is meant to be the star (and the bread was pretty nice). The meatballs are Kobe beef, which explains why they were smaller in size than you would expect for a meatball appetizer. Overall, they were also just fine. They did not have the luxurious quality you would expect from Kobe beef. It also came with a scoop of ricotta on top. The cool, ricotta contrasted nicely with the meatballs, but overall I would say the ricotta was not seasoned at all. I assume they make it fresh in house, and if that's true, they need to add salt to it. It was just very bland. Overall underwhelming. I would not get this dish again. But where they really shone were the main dishes. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and was perfectly balanced. The eggplant was sweet and had that smoky flavor from being cooked. The pasta sauce was nice and was perfectly complimented by the burrata. Taking a little bit of the eggplant and burrata with each forkful of pasta made for a perfect bite. The chicken scarp was amazing. We got it off the bone and with sausage added. Both of which were an extra charge which is laid out very clearly in the menu. The sausage was a fantastic addition and I would absolutely recommend it. The sauce had so much flavor and was unctuous, it kept us going back for another bite. Overall, the main issues with this place are clearly more in tone on the menu, than in execution, although the start of our meal was a little uninspired. Wonderful place with a large variety of foods and tastes. Really impressive stuff; you can tell the kitchen knows how to take care of their food and their dishes. Appetizers were the fried calamari (possibly could have been a bit crispier, but the freshness on the calamari was much appreciated). The pecan beet salad with blue cheese was delicious and multi-textured; the blue cheese was at times too strong and could have been more evenly crumbled, but all in all an excellent salad. The burrato salad with greens was also really good, if a tad bit oily. The pork chop agrodolce was really impressive, with really tender pork when bitten into. The accompanying zucchini was cooked to perfection, soft enough to chew through but maintaining a crispness to it. Such a vegetable is usually undercooked at a place like this. The cavatelli with meat sauce was also excellent, nicely textured and deeply sauced with great flavoring. The slices of cheese were a tad too salty, but otherwise delicious. The pistachio mascarpone cake was delicious as well, with nice blackberries and blackberry sauce and a nicely textured crumb at the bottom. What a treat! Excellent and caring service. read more

We had an amazing dinner here! We started off with a smoked salmon special appetizer that was absolutely delicious, followed by the chef's creation of a zuppa di pesce. The seafood was extremely fresh, the shrimp, crisp and delicious, but the mussels were outstanding! Probably some of the most tender, pillowy mussels I've had since returning from Italy. The tomato sauce was rich and just sheer perfection. The service was exceptional, our waiter was so nice, efficient and personable. Decided to try this place for the first time since it opened about a month ago . Ambiance was nice , I really the liked the pictures of Padre Pio . Everything was tasty. It definitely is a place that makes you feel at home . The only thing that that was disappointing is when I asked for a bottle of Gavi and I got a bottle for $95 that I asked the price and he did not reply . I definitely would not have gotten a bottle of white wine for $95. The waiter should have told me the price when he told me he had a bottle Gavi , especially when I asked . read more

Wonderful food and service!! Every dish we had was flavorful and filling. We also had the Arancini and Calamari (I forgot to take pictures) and they were to die for! Calamari was fresh and light, and the arancini melted in your mouth. The cavatelli was definitely fresh and so delicious. The ambiance of the restaurant was definitely 'rustic Italian' with nice dim lighting. Wasn't too loud which was nice, but it still felt cozy. The service was great, Arturo was amazing, he recommended great wine choices and helped us pick our entrees. He was very attentive and always checked in throughout the meal. Overall I would definitely come back, there are so many menu options left for me to try! I would totally give it a shot if you're looking for classic Italian food made really, really well. read more

We've been wanting to try Osteria Padre Pio since it was in its old spot in Mamaroneck. We missed that opportunity unfortunately, but visited their new space in West Harrison. It's a nice size restaurant and the decor is a bit kitschy. I imagine their old spot resembled a nonna's kitchen. This did not, but it didn't take away from the service nor the food. The service was exceptional. Someone was always around/floating/checking in. Bread came with eggplant caponata which was delicious. We shared the caprese salad which wasn't exactly what we were expecting. I was looking forward to big beefy tomatoes, fresh mozz and basil. We got a plate of arugula, with pieces of tomato, roasted red pepper, caramelized onions and a few olives with mozzarella on top. It needed some more seasoning and a little pizzazz, but it was fresh and light. He had the chicken scarp (add sausage) and said it was one of the best he's ever had. Side of rigatoni with vodka sauce was very good. The pastas are homemade so I tried the pappardelle with mushrooms, cream and truffle oil. It was a little too oily and could have used a touch more seasoning but it was really delicious. Tiramisu to finish off the night did not disappoint. I wish the setting was a little more "homey" but the food and service were excellent. I understand why they have so many regulars. read more

Went here last night with my wife and we loved it. They started us with warm bread and an eggplant-cherry tomato dip that was so good we almost forgot there was more food coming. The arancini landed next and the sauce was irresistible. We were shamelessly dunking more bread into it. For mains, her pappardelle del bosco was rich and earthy, and my rigatoni cacio e pepe hit all the right notes: silky, peppery, and perfectly salted. Service was attentive without hovering, and the place just has a great vibe. An absolute delight, truly a special place. Easy five stars; we'll be back. read more

I recently visited Osteria Padre Pio to celebrate a birthday, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover their new location in West Harrison. The restaurant is beautifully designed, featuring a cozy and intimate dining area with a stylish front bar and a spacious back room that's perfect for parties and gatherings. To start, I ordered the Barbabietola Rossa Salad, which included organic beets, wild arugula, pecan nuts, radish, and a gorgonzola dressing. The flavors blended really well--the sweetness of the beets with the crunch of pecans and the creamy blue cheese was a nice touch. I especially appreciated that the server accommodated my request to have the blue cheese crumbles on the side. The service overall was friendly and attentive, with staff frequently refilling our water and bringing out bread with a surprisingly delicious eggplant caponata dip. For my entrée, I had the Chicken Chef Andrea--a Milanese-style chicken cutlet served with more wild arugula, diced tomatoes, olives, balsamic dressing, and shaved parmesan. The portion was generous and the dish was beautifully presented. While the flavor was spot on and the chicken was well-seasoned, I did find the meat itself a bit tough and rubbery, which was disappointing considering how promising the rest of the dish was. Dessert was a highlight. I went with the Italian Chocolate Hazelnut Ice Cream (Tartufo). It was on the smaller side, but absolutely delightful--rich, creamy, and a perfect ending to the meal. A few notes on the ambiance: while the space felt warm and inviting, it did get quite loud, to the point where it was difficult to hear people at our own table. This could be a factor depending on the occasion or time of day. One detail that left a bit of a sour note was the 4% surcharge for credit card payments. With menu prices already on the higher end, adding a fee for using a card seemed a bit off-putting, especially since many guests likely don't carry cash. Would I go back? Maybe--but only for the appetizers and desserts, rather than the mains. There's definitely potential here, and I'd love to see how the menu evolves in their new space. read more
