Tonight was my first visit to The Twisted Olive. I love the setting of the restaurant. I believe this building was formerly a house. The decor is very tasteful, the views are gorgeous, including a patio and a lake. Our waiter was very pleasant and attentive. The mint julep that two of us in our party ordered was terrible. Neither of us drank even half of it. I ordered a strawberry brie salad and crab cakes. It tasted good going down, but by the time I got to the parking lot my intestines were churning. We had to stop at a gas station on the way home. And I'm currently writing this review from my home bathroom. I normally eat a pretty clean diet - organic / non-GMO. The only thing I can think of is maybe there was pesticides on the vegetables I ate, or possibly GMO canola oil, or GMO corn starch that thickened the sauce that went with the crab cakes. Whatever it was, it was a pricey meal to flush down the toilet less than two hours after eating it. I will not be eating my leftovers, which I was looking forward to. Feeling very disappointed (and nauseous). Update: I checked with the others in our party, and no one else got sick. However, we were all in agreement that the quality of the food didn't measure up to the pricing. My husband described his pasta dish as "hard Giant Eagle pasta with even harder bits of bacon, tossed with a few peas, in a jarred cream sauce". The location is great, the setting is beautiful, and the staff was friendly and helpful. However, the food is ultimately what will bring you back and I don't think any of us are inclined to return. read more

The Good: reservations on the Open Table app made getting a table a breeze. Unfortunately all that was available was a 4:45, which is certainly no fault of theirs (and shows their popularity!). The property is beautiful, and the building itself was very old school cabin meets chic trendy 20 something designer. A nice bit of upscale and casual architecture at the same time. I thought it was well done. The Average: As the food goes, it was probably a little less tasty than I had expected, and prices just about where I thought they'd be. We picked a number of items just to try a bit of everything. First out were some pork balsamic barbecue and blue cheese meatballs. (Say that three times fast!). They were served on what the menu said was "toast", which really turned out to be very thin slices of an Italian bread that may have been toasted? Couldn't really tell. The two meatballs were cut in fours to fill the plate more, but it was pretty small regardless. I guess I was expecting hand rolled monsters, and instead got their little brother. No worries though, they were tasty, and well flavored. Next out was a seafood flatbread. Not my favorite. The flatbread was very thin and crispy (reminded me of dominos thin crust pizza). The shrimp was maybe the size of a dime, and were only one per piece. The sweet sauce and avocado reduction were both great flavors, but applied sparingly. For that price, I was hoping more bang for the buck. Again, good; but on the small side. Finally the Mac and Cheese arrived. This was probably my favorite dish. Well cooked pasta with several a cheeses, and a perfectly browned breadcrumb topping. The textures and flavors were wonderful together. This was also a decent sized portion, which would knock out hunger! Lastly we got a strawberry ice cream between two macadamia nut cookies. This is the only part where I can say there was a little of... The bad: the ice cream and cookies were both good, but they came to the table hard as a rock. As if they'd been in a deep freezer for hours. We literally had to chizzle at them just to break the surface. Finally, we realized we'd need to let them come up to temperature just to eat. Ten minutes later, we could finally dig in, but that's not what I expect from a Gervasi kitchen. You would think laying down a fresh cookie, scooping some Pav's in there, and topping it off with a second cookie would be easy. Apparently not so much. Overall this was a pleasant experience. If you're hungry, be careful in what you choose, as it seems like a lot of the dishes are more small plates than meals. Combine several and you'll be fine. The flavor profiles were outstanding, just lacked a little in the portion size in my personal opinion. Your mileage may certainly vary. Like any new business they have some kinks to work out, and I'll certainly give this place a second and third try. More than anything, it's nice to see a local family like the Swaldo's building quality, and locally owned destinations, that are both upscale and accessible. I wish I could give this place a 3.5 because the food was good but not great, however the atmosphere was wonderful. I got the pork meatballs as an entree which comes served with 3 large meatballs in a dish which is the appropriate size for a reasonable entree. They were tender, flavorful, and the sauce was a nice tangy change up from the usual tomato based sauces. Frankly, I ordered that dish because other reviews stated it was an item that wouldn't disappoint. Prior to that I got the chopped wedge salad which was very good. The dinner rolls that come out are hard but taste good and come with a side of herbed butter. The waitress was wonderful and attentive. the food was a little less inspired than I was hoping for but another visit with different choices could move the needle on my opinion. read more

They sat us 25 minutes after our reservation. So, we missed happy hour, no apology or comp. Our first visit was during the soft open. They had some kinks to work out, but I gave them a second chance. We visited TTO for Sexy Beast's birthday this evening. Of course the wine and cocktails were phenomenal. We ordered a couple of starters and this seemed to present a challenge for the kitchen staff. They took quite a while to arrive, only to be served rather cold and just so-so. The main entrees, however, totally redeemed the meal. I had the Crab Cake Sliders, Sexy Beast had the pork porterhouse (which was amazing, as I couldn't possibly write a review without trying it), and Belligerent Teen had the mac & cheese. All were magnificent. Our server was quite entertaining, but I couldn't help but notice that some other members of the wait staff might be struggling with professionalism. It was hard to not overhear a disgruntled conversation at the host station. I'm confident that these things will stabilize as both the staff and processes mature. We look forward to visiting again. Everything about this place is incredible. The design is beautiful mixing country charm with modern touches of design. High ceilings, great walk out patio, and beautiful views. You can get a reservation and sit in one of their spacious dining areas. Other options include a bar area on the main floor that is first-come-first-served, and an entire lower level bar area that is full service for the complete menu. My wife and I arrived early and find a little spot with two comfy chairs, grabbed a drink, and chatted while we waited for our table. The drinks were reanably priced - my wife had a YeungLing which was $3 and I had a margarita on the rock at $5. Our appetizer was the flatbread which was decent, but could have used a bit more seasoning. For the dinner portion of the evening my wife had the smocked gouda mac and cheese while I elected for a shrimp and polenta special. Dinner was delicious - the polenta cake was DY-NO-MITE! I decided to go all the way and had one of the gourmet ice cream sandwiches made from cookies from a local bakery and ice cream from a local creamery. It was worth the bloated feeling later. Staff was excellent - extremely clean - wonderful experience. TIP - get a reservation a few days in advance. We logged on to open table the night before and only had 4:30 or 9:00pm as reservation options - book early! read more

Met my husband here for lunch on a random Wednesday. We lived in Chicago for many years and, since moving to NE Ohio, we really miss the terrific restaurants and adventurous dining there. We were very pleasantly surprised by our dining experience at Twisted Olive. Beautiful setting, very spacious sprawling restaurant which would clearly be good for a group event. We were seated by the window. Attentive and helpful server (Megan) made some great suggestions on her favorites from the menu, one of which I had and loved. Our order: Appetizers - Mussels (Korean sweet/spicy, very unique and tasty) Crispy brussels sprouts (very generous sized order, enough for 4 to get a serving - SO GOOD, I ate nearly the whole thing by myself). Entrees - Meatball Orecchiette Pasta (my husband was able to customize the amount of caramelized onions to his liking); Cheese Cappalletti pasta (a reco of the server - the dish presentation was very impressive and the taste even MORE impressive, thoroughly enjoyed it!!!). The plating was really nice, even the nice touches with the warm, soft rolls served with herbed butter, made for a very very nice lunch! The price for all of this food, plus a bloody mary, a scotch, and a beer, was in our opinion well within reason. We'll be back, and will bring friends! read more

I've been wanting to get to the Twisted Olive since it opened as I'm a huge fan of Gervasi. We were finally able to get there this evening. I was aware of some of the previous reviews but wanted to see for myself what The Twisted Olive had to offer. We were NOT disappointed. This is such a cool restaurant. The decor, atmosphere, everything about it made it such a spectacular place to have a meal. We decided to sit in the bar downstairs to enjoy the Happy Hour. Several drink specials, I ordered the sangria and he got a beer (Hoppin Frog!) and then a couple glasses of wine. We ordered the $5 shrimp, calamari and lamb appetizers. All three were delicious. The shrimp and calamari were perfectly fried, nice and lite and the perfect portion. What really made each appetizer stand out was the sauce that came with them. We weren't really sure what to expect with the lamb but figured we'd give it a try. It arrives on the plate like a quesadilla almost but so much better. Again, the sauce on the plate was so good. We ended up ordering three meatballs and the alfredo pizza to take home. Thin crust pizza, nice and crispy. The meatballs are huge and the sauce incredible. Our server was great! We always had drinks, he was polite, friendly and was able to answer any and all questions about the menu. Every restaurant has some quirks to work out as they first open. Based on our experience, they are definitely on the right track. We cannot wait to go back. The outdoor patio looks like it will be a great place to sit outside on a warm evening. I will give it 4 stars because of the great drink menu. All the drinks we tried were really good. Reservations through open table where I noted it was our anniversary. The hostess mentioned it , but that was the end of the trail. Not a big deal. We sat downstairs in a smaller room by the "oval room" Room was very loud - maybe upstairs would have been nicer / quieter since I said it was my anniversary... Drunk guy behind us loud and using foul language. Not fun. Waiter was very nice and guided us through the menu. Meatballs were ok. Cheese honey biscuits were good. My Hamburger was great. My wife got the Mac n cheese - but not very cheesy. Looked dry- but a huge portion. Not sure I would spend $30 on a steak. Pre- made ice cream sandwich for dessert - it would have been nice to pick flavor and cookie for a personal touch. Maybe not so frozen - needed a steak knife to cut I would go again - would like to try the pizzas.... ( and more drinks). read more

Horrible, horrible service. We went with our family for a 6:30 reservation, and didn't leave until 9:30. Our server was extremely unresponsive, never checked on how our food was, forgot coffee for 20 minutes, and was extremely uncaring. Our rare steak was well done. He didn't come to our table so we could send it back. So we eventually complained to another server. Our grandmother ordered coffee, and it took 20 min to get a cup from him. My wife and I chose The Twisted Olive for our anniversary, having had fairly positive experiences in the past, although it had been a long time since the last time we were there. It was a Monday night at about 7. We sat ourselves outside on the lower level, and were waited on fairly quickly. All but one table was occupied, but it seemed most people were finishing their meals or just having drinks. As new guests started filling the tables, it became apparent that there was only one waitress for all of us and the service started to nose dive, taking longer and longer between visits from our waitress. I saw several people go inside to the bar to get their own drinks, rather than wait. At about 8:30 our waitress asked if we wanted desert, which we declined, and said we would take our check and a to-go box. It was another 40 minutes before we finally were done checking out. My wife and I felt so badly for our waitress, as she was clearly overwhelmed. It was obvious that management was a penny wise and a pound foolish in not scheduling and paying a second waitress. Despite the very, very good food and drink, and enjoyable atmosphere, it really was like a wet blanket on our evening and basically ruined it. And by the way, they should check their dishwasher; my wife's water glass split in half in her hand (no injury, just water all over her), and my wine glass was absolutely filthy. I was going to send it back but that would have taken another 30 minutes. My advice to management is to schedule more wait staff. You obviously spend a lot of money on everything else; don't get cheap on customer service. read more

A large group of family and friends went to The Twisted Olive last night. We were absolutely blown away with the entire evening. Our server Jonathan was attentive and polite. The ambiance was excellent. The food was EXCEPTIONAL. I ordered the B.A.T pizza. It was huge and absolutely amazing. Other friends at the table ordered the meatballs, crab cakes, scallops, twisted pizza, supreme pasta, and beer battered fish sandwich. Every single thing we tried was beyond excellent. Wonderful developed flavors, perfectly cooked, nice presentation. It was affordable and there were a lot of very reasonable price options on the menu. The only thing I was not thrilled with was the margarita I ordered. It was syrupy sweet and not very great. But others at the table had ordered martinis and other cocktails that were very good. Overall, I can't wait to go back and sit on the patio when the weather gets nicer. This is an amazing place, you gotta try!! read more

My husband and I visited this restaurant for the second time tonight. First was over a year ago and we enjoyed it then. This time, with a reservation, we were seated in probably the worst seat in the house. My husband's head was 2 inches from the fire alarm. On seeing our table, I asked the greeter to seat us in a less sunny spot. She pulled the blinds, but we were still hot and uncomfortable. The blinds did little to help the situation. We were seated directly near the back door which opened continually. Allowing disruption and heat to our meal. We wanted to make the most of it, so ordered a full meal. Our appetizer was the calamari. It was greasy and chewy. I have had better cooked calamari at many local restaurant. One ring I almost had to take out of my mouth with a napkin bc couldn't break down the chewiness. We received our wine (the wine was the one highlight) before our appetizer and the bread came long after that. Very poor delivery management. The bread, once arrived, was hot and tasty. The entrees we ordered were seared Scallops and pastry crusted meatloaf. My scallops were over cooked and chewy. The string beans were oddly spiced. My husband enjoyed the meatloaf, but found the pastry soggy. We both agreed that every item we had, from calamari to mashed potatoes was over salted. We are less than half of the calamari and didn't bother to take it home. It was my husband's birthday. Our check was over $100, and I definitely don't feel the experience was worth more than $20. Unless you have some connections to be seated in a good location and you plan to order wine only, go somewhere else. read more

Me and my wife went to the twisted olive for the very first time The appetizers are great and so are the drinks excellent customer service very clean and dressy place however the desserts are not to good however we never complain but this time we did and our waiter return what a different dessert that was worse than the last not a good reason to never come here again. Big disappointment. Wines good but overpriced. Food was sub-par. Had the strawberry-warm brie salad. Dressing was very fresh however there were 3 little pieces of brie and I think a small sliced strawberry or two. Had a flatbread with beef. The beef tasted microwaved. The cheese on the bread was grainy. Won't be back except maybe for cocktails. Don't waste your money. Service was poor. Over the course of the evening the server never refilled our water glasses even though we requested it a few times. The time between courses was very, very slow with no server in site. The setting is beautiful, ambiance wonderful. Too bad the food was so poor. Hope they can work it out before summer. read more

My husband and I had the pleasure of dining here for our anniversary last night. We were completely blown away. The service was excellent, from making the reservation, to being greeted with "happy anniversary!" when walking in the door, to our server and everyone we encountered. When I called the day before (nothing like waiting until the last minute haha) to make the reservation, they only had 8:00 available. We had already bought tickets for a 9:45 movie but she said that we could come early and possibly get seated early if someone cancels or just dine downstairs where it's first come first served. So we arrived at 7pm and to our surprise we were seated immediately. We started with the brussel sprouts which were just heavenly. Honestly I think it was possibly the best thing I've ever tasted. We both agreed we could easily make a meal of them. We also both got the apple of your rye cocktail which was just perfect. Strong but not like drinking straight whiskey. It actually reminded us a bit of apple pie moonshine. She also brought us our rolls with herbed butter. They were delicious, but I did think it was odd that they were served in a little paper basket like you would get your fries in at the fair. I would expect a place like this to use something a little nicer. That's honestly the only negative of the whole experience though. Next we ordered dinner. My husband had the rack of lamb (a special that night) and I had the filet mignon. Both were excellent and cooked perfectly (medium rare). I could really taste the rosemary in the sauce on my filet. And my husband appreciated that the sauce was on the side with his lamb (he doesn't like sauce on his meat). They were seasoned perfectly though but overpowering, so you could taste the meat. I got an amaretto sour and husband got one of their beers (milkhouse stout, I believe) and both were great. Final course, I got another amaretto sour and he got a different beer (farmhouse). I got the chocolate lava cake which was good. Not great, and I wouldn't get it again, but it was fine. Husband got the lemon cheesecake with strawberries which he said was great and not overly sweet (he doesn't like sweets). The bill came to, $145 + 30 for tip and worth every penny. read more

Not worth the hype but considering it is one of the "nicer" restaurants in the area you are kind of obligated to go. Server Matt was pretty vain. Hericot verts were not done at all and server claimed that's how they were supposed to be. French onion soup was tepid and didn't have much cheese. Make a reservation if you're going on the weekend. Second time to the Twisted Olive and this time it was much better than the first trip. Waiter was super attentive. Food was much better than first go. Crab cake sliders were delicious and just the right amount of food. I asked for substitution of a salad instead of fries and was happily accommodated. Try the fig or date balsamic dressing! Great improvement on the dessert menu too. Cheesecake was delicious! Outdoor seating is beautiful although we were seated inside. :-( Our large long table was a bit awkward with a party of nine which is always a difficult number to work with for seating. This time though I felt like I was sitting in the entry way since there is no division wall or backdrop from the hostess area and entrance other than another long table with some glass bottles. The patio on the lower level overlooking the water is peaceful and serene and was totally empty. It would be great if there fire pits there. A bit surprised that it wasn't more crowded given the Hall of Fame weekend but it was First Friday and the Aerosmith concert. read more

I hardly ever give 5 stars, but the attention to detail of this place will blow you away. In short: Twisted Olive gives you a fine dining experience at an affordable price. Two main factors of why this place rocks: 1) The construction of the building and landscape. 2) The food and overall vibe. Details in the construction: Everything from the long drive into the property with nice Landscaping, lighting, free valet parking, etc.... It almost feels intimidating and out of your league, like you need a reservation to get a table. The experience inside is quite the opposite, very relaxed, comfortable atmosphere, reasonable prices. The main dinning hall has high vaulted ceilings with a tonge and groove ceiling giving off a cabin feel. The mantel above the fireplace is just cool in itself too look at, one big giant saw cut timber. Also in this area I have to give credit to the huge unique lighting fixture that hangs above the room. The lighting throughout the place is all well (balanced) lighting with unique lighting fixtures. I can go on forever on the attention to detail of the construction of this place, but I almost don't want to ruin the surprises..... kudos to the owners who designed this place... It looks like it was professionally designed and architected, and they did not cheap out of cut corners on the construction by any means, inside and throughout the property. The true "Gervasi experience." The food: I got the flank steak salad, my GF got the potato soup and flat bread pizza. The presentation of this salad was awesome, brought out in a cylinder and spilled out onto your plate, very good and the steak was cooked just right. The pizza was awesome, and fresh! Fresh mozzarella, definitely will get the flat bread again. It feed 2-3 btw, so if you order one for yourself or 2, you may have left overs to bring home. I came to celebrate my birthday on 2/6. I am a frequent at this place and have always had wonderful experiences in the past. I had ordered braised short rib and ended up with, what could be no other than, food poisoning several hours later. While I was so disappointed about feeling the way I did after having had a great meal, I think I was more disappointed having called in to tell them about my experience and what proceeded. It is with much hesitance that I am writing this review as this used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the area. However, after such an unpleasant experience yesterday, it would take a lot for my wife and I to come back. My wife and I love the gemelli pasta with chicken dish. It was a regular on the menu previously. We like it so much so that we even requested the dish for our wedding reception and on about five subsequent occasions after. Yesterday, I called up Twisted Olive to see of they could make the dish for us. I spoke to two different hostesses who assured me they could. My wife and I drove to the restaurant and ordered the pasta at the bar. The bartender seemed confused, which was a first as the hostesses and previous waiters, right away knew what the pasta dish was. The bartender first told us it wasn't possible, then told us we were all set. After nearly an hour of waiting, we received our pasta dishes. The pasta was dry with very little sauce, spinach clumped together, and chicken dry and over cooked. Even worse, the bill was for $49! The waiter had upcharged us on the pasta and additional add-ons without even telling us. I spoke to Kelly the manager who was very unsympathetic. Kelly talked down to me as if she was a teacher and I was a child. She accused me of wrongdoing and belittled me, while correcting the price, half way (I was charged only 50 percent more instead of double for the pasta). I felt extremely disrespected and unvalued by manager Kelly's attitude. Like I said before, my wife and I had ordered this dish countless times and never had an issue. It is wrong to blame a customer and belittle them in a condescending manner. My wife and I left Twisted Olive having paid 50% more for a dry pasta with overcooked chicken, clumped spinach, and having been disrespected by the manager. We have lost faith in the customer service here and are hard to imagine we would return to this restaurant again. read more

Went here with family to celebrate our granddaughter's graduation. Absolutely beautiful location. The inside was very spacious, and very beautifully arranged. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. I had the pulled pork sandwich. The meat was great, not impressed with the BBQ sauce. There was also cheese, bacon, and onion straws on it. The cheese and bacon should have been left on the kitchen, the onion straws as a side item were great. I'm more or a traditional person, Twisted Olive states that Twisted means every thing with a twist. I can understand that, but I'm not impressed with that concept. Great ambiance, fabulous views, great food, and excellent service. I brought my mom here after she picked me up from the airport. Cali was our server and she was so kind, it was refreshing! It was such a nice evening spent with my Mom. Twisted Olive made it unexpectedly special. read more

Just can't say enough about the venue. Simply gorgeous! Have been here about 5 times. Always great food and great service. The deck is wonderful and open. Just don't care for sizes of some of the tables inside. The round booths are cozy, but not comfortable 4 people with full meals. Thor are perfect size if you're only having cocktails or coffee. The tiny two person tables are simply that, too tiny! Love and appreciate the ability to make a reservation. read more
