We went for dinner on a Friday night, I would give 5 stars for service, 4 stars for the food and 3 stars for the ambiance. We enjoyed almost every dish we ordered, but holy moly was this restaurant LOUD. It was extremely difficult to hear our waitress and we were almost yelling at each other just to be able to communicate across the table. Not exaggerating, my ears actually hurt a bit and were sensitive to noise afterwards. That being said, the restaurant is nicely decorated and huge place albeit warm. They have AC, but they leave the doors open so if you sit in the front of the restaurant itself it is only a little better than sitting outside. The service was great, friendly, attentive and the food came out at a good pace and each course was explained. We ordered from the gluten free menu to accommodate a friend with celiac and honestly I would never know the difference. I was impressed they made a point to tell us what could possibly be cross contaminated with gluten. As a table of four, we ordered the papaya salad, sambal stingray, Singaporean chili crab rice (the crunchy topping has gluten so they put it on the side for us), crying tiger steak, short rib green curry, pad see ew (the tofu was possibly cross contaminated so they also put it on the side), morning glory and mango sticky rice for dessert. The star for me was the short rib green curry though others around the table thought the Singaporean chili crab rice and crying tiger steak were the best and honestly all 3 were excellent. The short rib is served on the bone and was cooked perfectly, soft and fell off the bone, you could cut it with a spoon. The green curry was thick so it stuck to the meat well. It came with thai eggplant (tastes like japanese eggplant) and yams and some green leaves that I think you are not supposed to eat. It was a pretty large serving of short rib which I appreciated and a fairly heavy dish. It was bursting with flavor and I would absolutely give this dish 5 stars. The steak was also cooked perfectly and had nice flavor that complimented the steak rather than overwhelming it. It came with a fresh herb salad and was a decent serving of steak. What I liked about the Singaporean chili crab rice besides the crunchy spicy topping which I could eat on it's own, was that the crab was evenly distributed throughout, so you got crab in each bite. This dish was also a pretty decently sized portion. As for the other dishes, I really enjoyed the sambal stingray although the skate was a bit too soft in terms of texture. Great flavor from the sambal sauce and a medium sized portion, more like a large appetizer or small entree. The morning glory was also good, but tasted different from other Thai places we have had it and was a bit watery. The pad see ew was okay, nothing special. I wanted it to have a bit more flavor, but it is nice to see a noodle dish on the gluten free menu. I didn't particularly enjoy the papaya salad as it just overwhelmingly tasted like vinegar and the mango sticky rice was a huge disappointment. It was not sticky rice at all, just regular white rice and it barely had any fresh mango in it. The mango sorbet is came with was delicious, but the fresh lime zest on top was unnecessary and I ate around it as it ruined the mango flavor. Great place to come if you have allergies and overall pretty good Thai food. Probably better to come during a weekday though so it is less loud. read more

I went to this moderately fancy, pretty popular Pan-Asian spot with one of my groups a while back, where, as usual, we split a lot of main dishes. They are a sister restaurant to the even fancier Chinese Tuxedo, with a menu that leans primarily towards ASEAN/Southeast Asian countries. The place was slightly loud and somewhat dim for photos, but thankfully, we were in a separate room, so the noise was muffled. The food was overall pretty good, though I prefer some other spots. This is especially given the price point, but it is nice to have solid representations of food from many different countries. To drink, I remember not being in the mood for a cocktail, so I went for the $14 Fiery Forge with Pathfinder hemp spirit, Lyre's Italian orange, pineapple, five spice, and pomelo soda. It had mild spices and a lot of citrus, and it was decent. The first dish that arrived happened to be the best, the $38 Crispy Lamb Ribs with a Cambodian sweet & sour sauce. The ribs were crispy on the outside while remaining very tender inside, with the fat properly cooked as well. I was also happy that they weren't overly sweet either. This was very tasty and one of our easy favorites. The Roasted Duck Breast for $32 with Chinese celery, Thai basil, dragon eye fruit, and plum dressing was also solid. The duck was cooked nicely, being tender with a mildly fatty texture, and the dressing was thankfully not overly sweet. I do wish there was a bit more dragon eye fruit/longan, but it was solid. Also tasty, but the most expensive, was the 'Crying Tiger' Grilled Sirloin Steak for $46 with aromatic herbs, spicy tamarind dressing, and toasted rice. I have had this dish, also known as Suea rong hai, in many Isan/northeastern Thai spots, and this was solid. The steak was cooked nicely, and the dressing had a mild kick, with some roasted chilis for those who want a bit more heat. My only complaint is that I wish this were also served, as per usual, with sticky rice, as it's already a pricey version of this dish, and even cheaper places serve this traditional accompaniment. The Newton Circus Sambal Stingray, for $28, with roasted skate and sambal belachan, was alright. It was comparable to most Malaysian and Singaporean spots serving this dish, though I preferred a slightly stronger sambal at some spots, and the fish was cooked better at others. The portion size was also daintier, although at least we didn't have to deal with the fish bones. For a better version at a reasonable price, I highly recommend Wok Wok nearby, on Mott Street near Confucius Square. Last and least was the Singaporean Chili Crab Fried Rice for $28 with hand-picked Jonah crab and lobster oil. This is famous here, and I don't really see it. I liked the fried rice's seasoning and crunch. However, the sweet chili sauce overpowered whatever little crab there was. For a similar price, I would recommend the nearby Phoenix Palace, which had more crab flavor and was more balanced. The food overall was good. If this were in another neighborhood, I would probably recommend it more, but there are other spots for ASEAN food that are a bit more reasonably priced and of better quality. It's still good, though, and certainly better than many other Pan-Asian places. This would be another 3.5, but that doesn't exist, so I'll round up. read more

I stumbled upon this place while exploring the area. I was able to get a seat with no wait early on a Saturday. I ordered the oyster, scallop, crab fried rice and dessert. The oysters were delicious and a nice spice. The scallop was also good but very expensive 12 for 1. The crab fried rice was flavorful and had nice crunch on top. The drinks were good. Now what brings this review down was the service and dessert. The dessert was horrible and I couldn't even eat it but no one asked why they didnt ask to replace it or remove it from the bill and it was nasty, the texture and flavor were off idk if that's how it was intended but dont order it. I dont know if I would return here while I enjoyed the food it was overly expensive and the experience wasnt too great to pay that amount when other thai restaurant are a better time. read more

Beautiful venue with great ambience. Really loved the famous lamb ribs, which my husband said just fell off the bone and had amazing flavor. I also thought the water spinach greens were spectacular, and my fried chicken had a very interesting subtle flavor. Not greasy at all! The portions were small, and the service was very strange. They brought two dishes before they brought us our cocktails and the next two dishes long after we had finished our cocktails and the rest of our food. Hence the four stars. Here's what did the damage: The Steak Tartare was a bold, perfectly seasoned, and the ideal way to start the night. The Hamachi Crudo was light, clean, and beautifully balanced. The Shiitake Mushroom & Glass Noodle Spring Rolls with sweet chili and peanut sauce were comforting (even if they didn't make it to the photo roll!). The Pan-Fried Pork & Shrimp Dumplings were an absolute flavor explosion , crisp on the outside, juicy on the inside. The Pan-Roasted Maine Scallops were cooked to perfection, with flavors that truly lingered. And then came the showstoppers : the Singaporean Chili Crab Fried Rice (don't question it, just order it.. it's perfect) and the Roasted Sea Bass in Banana Leaf in Turmeric infused coconut curry, which was pure island bliss, fragrant and melt-in-your-mouth tender. We ended strong with the Grilled Sirloin Steak, because you can simply never go wrong with a beautifully cooked steak infused with Aromatic Herbs, Spicy Tamarind Dressing, Toasted Rice. I had a pleasant surprise at "The Tyger" and gave them 5 stars. They have ample indoor and outdoor seating and are usually fully booked on a Saturday night. We got there a little after 6:30 pm and the only way to get in due to reservations, was to agree to give up the table by 8:00 pm. Not something I would normally do, although I was looking to do other things and desert elsewhere so I was ok with it. There is normally a 90 minute time limit even for a table of four on a Saturday night. Other days, especially Sundays do not have a limit. They are located at the foot of SoHo, Chinatown and Little Italy. Afterwards, we walked around the corner and literally walked into Little Italy. I felt like I was in Sicily or Naples. They offer Southeast Asian Cuisine, a full selection of cocktails, beer, liquors, and a fairly extensive wine list. They are concerned with their guests health safety and the first thing they ask you is if you have any allergies or food concerns. Their menu offers vegan options , gluten free and shellfish free options as well. The menu is broken down to raw, small plates, vegetables, rice and noodles, and deserts. Our server Erika was great, was very helpful and assured us that although we were on a time constraint we would not be rushed. Nicely decorated, very polite and attentive staff, the severs and cleaners were all wearing rubber gloves. Everything was spotless and had a clean look. Prices are a little on the high side, although that's Manhattan. We had the chicken skewers and the beef skewers. It was amazing how much flavor the chicken skewers had. Next was the spring rolls, you get four pieces and they weee not oily had also were excellent. My favorite dish was thePad Thai noodle with shrimp. You get five large shrimp that were cooked perfectly. They were moist and delicious. The last dish was the Singapore Chili Crab Fried Rice. Also excellent with a nice kick. Went to The Tyger on a Friday night with two friends at dinner time. I highly recommend making reservations like we did! It's a very popular spot. The ambiance is very classy and with the bright airy space you felt transported to a new location. While there wasn't loud music playing (don't recall any at all actually) there was never a moment of silence due to the bustling conversations at every table. This is definitely a place to come with people to enjoy conversation and vibe. Our waiter Sarah did an excellent job of getting us started. While the menu items are familiar (pad Thai, fried chicken) the spin the restaurant puts on it and specifically the small details makes it extra special but can be overwhelming if you don't have someone to explain it to you. She let us know what dishes are popular, what dishes to steer away from if spicy is not your thing, and how many dishes was a good amount to be shared amongst our group. We each tried a different one of the 3 mocktails - all yummy and beautifully crafted. The fried chicken was yummy but the star was certainly the sauce it came with which I ended up drizzling all over the squid fried rice- yum! And the deserts were an experience. I got the Passion in Paradise which was so fun to eat! There was a new burst of flavor with each bite. I left with a full belly! I really really loved this place. Has amazing vegetarian food, perfect service and it has a beautiful ambiance and location. The bathroom is also beautiful ;) We had the pickles, a noodle dish and the spring rolls and I have up say that the tofu in the noodle dish and the mushrooms in the spring roll, stood out very much. The tofu was so soft and perfectly done, and the mushrooms in the spring rolls were so chewy and made the spring rolls such a dish apart from other spring rolls I've had everywhere else. I also appreciated that the spring rolls came with a lot of salad, such that they could be wrapped into a roll I had the yuzu beer and my friend had a mezcal cocktail which she really loved. Really good spot with yummy food, came by with a couple of coworkers after an event and tried the mocktails. The purple one was so pretty and surprisingly good! Feels like mango lassi but in purple color and light ube flavor. Was originally a bit unsure how the lavender will turn out and it was quite nice and not too overpowering in the floral scent. My friend also got a crab fried rice and that was good too in flavor! Beef skewer was good too but small in portion. Will be back to try other items another time. I tried the Singaporean chili crab fried rice, the octopus with basil and watermelon, and the morning glory. The fried rice had really nice flavor and spice, but I wish there was more crab in it. The octopus dish had a great citrusy kick and I loved the idea of pairing it with watermelon. Although, the watermelon was a little mushy. The morning glory wasn't my favorite this time; it tasted a bit tough and mostly stems. I've been here before and really enjoyed it, so I'm chalking this up to an off night. Came here with some friends on a Saturday night to celebrate a birthday. The ambiance was very nice, the vibes were good and we all felt very comfortable. Service was another positive as our server was very professional and accommodating. She gave us recommendations from the menu and made sure we had everything we needed. We started off with drinks. A friend and I ordered a thai iced tea. Upon the first sip it was wayyyy too sweet. So much so that I couldn't bring myself to take another sip. My friend who loves sweets and has a high tolerance for sugar also admitted that it was too sweet. We asked if it could be remade less sweet and the server brought us new ones. These were also too sweet so if you prefer traditional Thai iced tea I would not recommend this one. For food, we ordered what the server recommended which was the baby gem salad, the duck, crab fried rice, and lamb rack. We also got the steak tartare as an appetizer. For the salad, it was nothing special- lettuce and toppings/dressing, not even other vegetables included. The steak tartare was pretty good, flavors were pretty well balanced. For the duck, the table agreed that it was the best dish ordered as it was the most unique and offered good flavors. It wasn't overcooked and we liked the bit of sweetness included with the sauce and the longan fruit. The crab fried rice wasn't as great as it could've been. The flavor seemed very one dimensional as the five spice overpowered everything else that was in it. The lamb ribs seemed promising as they were crispy and weren't dry but it was way too greasy/fatty. Overall, this is a nice place if you want to spend time with friends. A friend recommended The Tyger and I now owe that friend a hug. Really enjoyed my trip here. The vibe is great--dim, cozy and warm (even if you're by the windows). The serving staff is accommodating and kind--it was nice to have such a welcome, attentive staff! The Tyger was definitely my favorite meal on this trip, and I will 100% go back and recommend. The service was awesome. They brought everything we asked for quickly, they asked if we were done before taking our plates, they were friendly, and just super on top of it. The food was so delicious. We ordered the green papaya salad, pad see ew' rice noodles with tofu, green beans, & chicken and beef satay skewers. The noodles & tofu were so delicious. They were a lot like chow fun but better, the flavors were so good, and the preparation of the tofu was unique and super delish. Not sure if that or the beef skewers were my favorite. The chicken was also great with the peanut sauce. It's hard to explain why it was better than your average skewers and noodles/tofu, but it just was. The flavors, the textures. Just...YUM! The green beans were also fabulous, and I liked that they kept it interesting by three different types. To me the papaya salad was just okay. I love green papaya salad, and I think this one was a little light on the citrus maybe? Something just didn't balance for me, but it was good enough. I'd probably skip it and get the little gems next time. My daughter says it's way better. For cocktails, we chose the Heaven's Shore and The Sun and the Moon. I'm not really a sweet cocktail drinker, and these were sweet, but somehow it worked. I had the Heavens Shore, which I liked a bit more, but I loved how ginger-forward the Sun and moon was too. i was here for a work dinner on a tuesday evening and we were sat outside. at around 6:30pm, it was busy and bustling. there were various interesting drink choices, and i ended up choosing their signature frozen drink option which i believe was called the tyger stripe. it was mango-y and smokey with the charcoal, and very interesting looking. definitely not super strong, and also maybe not the best idea for me to have ordered given that it's been more brisk lately in october in nyc. in terms of food, we got the hamachi crudo, the chicken and beef satay skewers, pan fried pork and shrimp dumplings, lobster salad, chili crab fried rice, and the crying tyger grilled sirloin steak. off the bat, i think our favorites were the crudo and the sirloin steak. my coworkers were raving about how tender the steak was, and i thought the crudo was delicious. other than that, i wasn't THAT impressed by any of the other dishes. i think the skewers were nothing crazy, the dumplings were also pretty standard, and the lobster salad was almost disappointing. i would've preferred if the lobster had been more seasoned and maybe divvied into smaller bite sized chunks instead of large pieces just placed on top of the rest of the salad it came with. our server was friendly and helpful and the service was overall fine. i think this spot has a lovely ambiance and is managed well and has a great menu, but im just not sure if it really stands out amongst allll the asian fusion type spots in nyc. read more

This was our first time there so the servers walk us through the menu and their own personal recommendations. The menu does change every few months with the seasons. The servers were very attentive and support staff was on point. One thing to consider when you order food it comes out as it's ready , so that everything is fresh. I do recommend making reservations. Im grateful to the Chinese Tuxedo-Soso's-Tyger restaurant group for offering exemplary dining options at trendy spots where it's still actually possible to get a reservation. It's a good option for those of us who just can't bring themselves to go through another fruitless round of Resy notifys. There is both patio and dining room seating available; we sat inside on a recent summer weekend, but a sequence of oversized window panels open out into the street, allowing a nice gentle breeze to flow in. It seems that a number of people have had issues with the noise. I definitely didn't find it quiet, but I also didn't have any trouble hearing my dining companion. Cocktails: Heaven's Shore (Suyo Pisco No.1, Amaro Montenegro, Ginger, Lemon, Coconut & Mango Foam): Officially obsessed with this drink, which tastes like a much lighter and more complex version of a mango lassi. The mango, pisco, and coconut flavors all blended together beautifully. Trends a bit sweeter despite the inclusion of amaro and citrus, but that's not a knock on it at all. To Spring (Catedral Espadin Mezcal, Cloudy Sake, Melon, Pandan, Lime): I love pandan, so I had to try this one. It compliments the tropical flavors well here. Food: Hamachi crudo (Green Tomatoes, Pickled Cucumbers, Ponzu Dressing, Thai Basil Oil): With this as the starter, I knew we were in for a good night. The fish tasted really fresh and the ponzu adds sweet, savory, and citrus flavors. The cucumbers added a fresh crunch. Pan fried pork & shrimp dumpling: I've randomly had a lot of pork and shrimp dumplings recently and these were easily the best version. They're rather spicy and the dumplings had a nice pot-sticker-like crispiness. The dressing added sharp lemongrass and citrus notes. Salt and pepper crispy snapper tempura (Lemongrass Jerk, Typhoon Shelter): The presentation - with the battered fish arranged into little cubes atop the bones of the fish - reminds me of the fried branzino at Wayla. They're both really good dishes. I also learned what Typhoon Shelter means, which is a cooking preparation responsible for the charred garlic and chili spice elements of the dish. Served with a spicy, creamy lime sauce. Singaporean chili crab fried rice (Hand-Picked Jonah Crab, Lobster Oil): this is a ton of food, so much so that we took home leftovers and had a sizable snack later that night. Should've been brought out with our main but I think they forgot about it, which was a bit of a bummer. Anyway, it was really delicious; rather than giant lumps of crab, there were tiny little pieces mixed throughout. Overall, the rice had a great, subtle seafood flavor. Vietnamese coffee tart (Brûléed Coffee Custard Tart): Really freaking good dessert. This was like a cross between creme brûlée and pie, with a pie crust, coffee custard filling, and a lightly brûléed top. read more

Dropped by for a weekday night dinner (made a res in advance) and I was surprised to see this placed absolutely packed. The vibes were a bit clubby - dark, crowded and extremely loud (we had to essentially shout at each other during the entire meal to even hope to hear what the other person was saying) and there was a large event going on in the back which made things feel more chaotic. Suffice to say the vibes were a little too much if you're actually trying to talk to the person you're eating dinner with. Ambiance aside, the food was solid but very much in line with other more upscale, Asian fusion restaurants that I've been to. They recommended ordering 5 items for two people but servers typically overshoot, so we decided to get 4 items (which was more than enough). We ordered the Banh Xeo (crispy crepe with mushrooms), chili crab fried rice, spicy mi goreng noodles, and the crispy lamb ribs. Banh xeo was fine - I would skip this in the future, though granted I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms. Chili crab fried rice was solid, and I saw a lot of people in the reviews ordering this. Spicy mi goreng noodles were ok but also something I would skip in the future - if I remember correctly the sauce tasted like the sauce used for sweet and sour chicken. Lamb ribs were delicious, if a bit too sweet. We asked to get our leftovers packed, but they ended up either throwing it out by accident or misplacing it, which was a bit annoying. They did offer to remake the crab fried rice for us, which was nice, but we didn't have time to wait on it so we took up their offer to get a packed up dessert to go instead. read more

Loveedd the vibes here. Get the miso escargot (also add fluffy potato bread), grilled ocotpus, and squid ink "nasi goreng." This is def Thai with a twist and gives crazy tropical vibes. The entire place is airy and a bit loud but nice ambiance for some shared plates and cocktails. They gave us a free bday dessert which was a nice touch! Really enjoyed my dinner and planning to come back! All of the food was good with my favorite dish being the fried chicken. The string beans had a delicious sauce. I liked the pad see ew, but it was heavy on the black pepper so if you're not a fan I'd probably stay away. The tofu in it was crispy on the outside and really soft in the middle and I would happily eat a place of just that. The restaurant had a cool vibe and it'd be a fun place to go with a group of people and just try a bunch of things. The food is meant to be shared family style. My only negative is that it was loud. My friend and I had a little trouble hearing each other at times even on a weeknight. Service was great. Our waiter was nice, water refills were really fast, and they did a good job pacing when the food would come out. read more

Wow! Where do I start? I've been to The Tyger a few times but a group of us decided to go for Lunar New Year and I'm so glad we did. It was an amazing experience all around. Food: we went for the feast menu which basically gave you a taste of all their best dishes. I was worried I would be limited with gluten free options but they actually substituted everything I couldn't have or made alterations so that I could enjoy it. I've never had a restaurant be so accommodating. They even accommodated my friend's other dietary preferences as well. Every single dish we had was delicious but my favorite was the sea bass. The fish was so tender and flavorful, I would definitely recommend ordering it. The coconut bomb is also such a light and refreshing dessert. Portion sizes were also plenty for a family style meal. Service: As soon as you walk in they are super welcoming and take your coats. Sarah was our waiter and she was so amazing! She made sure that all of the servers told me what was gluten free and what wasn't. She checked in on us throughout the night. She even brought the dessert out with a candle for our friend who we mentioned is moving and told her "bon voyage!". Ambiance: The decor in the restaurant is beautiful and it is spacious. They even have a private room. They made Lunar New Year extra special with a dragon performance and gave us red envelopes to put in its mouth. my friend and I stopped in for drinks and appetizers. I would recommend on the strength of the food and the wait staff 100%. I appreciate that they were accommodating to our dietary restrictions and very sweet. The only item I would take a star for (as you cannot take half a star) is that we asked for matchbooks as collectors and the front desk was out, which made us ask the bar (as we've had luck in the past) which prompted a hostess to loudly and unnecessarily state that they "were out" as we were leaving to her colleague. Gorgeous ambiance--felt like something straight out of White Lotus. Sadly, the food didn't match and did not live up to its hype. Originally ordered a Thai tea which was overly sweet (even asking for it to be remade). It felt like they make the tea in advance beforehand because they provided milk on the side after remaking it for me and the tea itself was still out of the world sweet. Exchanged for a Coke which was about four sips max and come to find out that it costs $8 at checkout. Also tried several popular dishes as recommended-- most fell flat, very disappointing! Baby gem salad was just baby romaine with dressing, lamb ribs were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside but very very very fatty, and fried rice was just simple fried rice with lots of seven spice garnishing.
