[7:21 PM EST] I can see why this place has 5 stars. Not only do they serve perfected classics, but I thoroughly enjoyed the service. This place was not too crowded and provided outdoor seating, so I felt safe eating with my friend at one of their outside tables. I ordered the union sliders (cooked to perfection btw) and the kids size mac and cheese (because who doesn't love mac and cheese). It was a feast to say the least. This place also had the best fries I've ever had. I would come back for the fries alone. I loved that the employees checked-in on your experience as you were seated and we were always greeted with friendly faces. Service can really make a world of difference. I will be recommending this place to all my friends in the area, and if you're reading this, I recommend you stop by the Union too! read more

Sadly no longer is this my fave in McLean. Went there for a quick bite and everything was off. Disappointed. The garlic sauce was inedible. The calamari was subpar. The small plate with the chicken was listless and lifeless. They inquired if I enjoyed it as they saw most of it on the plate, offered an alternative but naw I didn't want to work that hard. Not very many restaurants have earned the 5-star Yelp rating. This was our first date night ever since COVID hit. We were impressed that the tables were separated so a few diners can eat inside while others can brave eating outdoors with the heater. Needless to say we opted to eat indoors. There were only four other couples in the restaurant, each at their designated corners. We felt cozy, but socially distant from others. You grab a table and when ready place your order up front. We decided to start off with the fried calamari for an appetizer. The first bite I knew that this restaurant was not going to disappoint. Fried to perfection and seasoned "just right" I could hardly wait to taste the main dish. I had the traditional Union Burger with a side salad. OMG...one of the best burgers I've ever eaten! It's like eating Kobe beef for the first time in Japan. Words cannot describe the experience, you just have to try it out yourself. It's no wonder that the Union continues to get 5-star ratings from its customers! Oh let's not forget the Moscow Mule that paired well with my meal. Also, we can't overlook the friendly and amazing staff. They take real pride in the quality of the food and come to ask you for your feedback. Most cases people and then they leave and move on to the next customers. The atmosphere here is different. It reminds me of the small mom and pop establishments where they get to know their customers and encourage them to come back to dine with them again. We will definitely be retuning for many other dates nights here. One of our new McLean favorites! read more

I hate to give this place a low rating because it has mostly 5 stars but I am just trying to be fair compared to my other reviews. Their service was ok. The owner (I think he was) did come out to greet us, which was very nice but then no one came out to check for refills of our drinks! The fattoush salad was ok. It was not really flavorful. The sesame wings were good and the sliders were ok too. I would probably go back once more and revise my review if my experience is different. read more

Quaint little cafe/restaurant where the old Indian buffet used to be in McLean. Plenty of parking, nice atmosphere inside, super friendly service - like, some of the nicest people I've met working at a restaurant in a long long time. I like the eclectic menu - it isn't too broad, and represents diverse flavors. The French fries are amazing. Unfortunately the positives end there, because the rest of the food was average to bad. My wife had the watermelon gazpacho which was overly sweet - really needed a hit of Sherry vinegar for balance. I started with the artisan greens salad - I asked if they could make it as a side salad but was told no - so I got a whole order, ate a quarter of it, and took the rest home. Similar to the gazpacho it just lacked balance. The components were bitter and salty. I know there were grapes in there for sweetness and goat cheese for tang, but none of it came together. My wife then had the fattoush salad which she said was pretty decent. I went with the Mumbai panini - oofff, this was bad. My wife who is not a picky eater actually said it was the worst panini she'd ever had - unfortunately I have to agree. The bread had a nice crunch and great chew as you would expect from a panini - but the inside of the sandwich was a mess. The beet and cucumber were both completely lost because the blandness of the potatoes just muted everything else. I never tasted any chaat masala nor any cilantro chutney. The whole thing just ate so bland except for an occasional bite of havarti, which was a welcome reprieve. The food came to $46 which was outrageous to me for how flavorless everything was. On a side note, I wasn't really sure how to tip because it's like a fast casual joint in that you order at the front and then they bring you food (which doesn't suggest to me that the standard 20% should apply), but then we did have a server come to our table a couple of times to check on us, so I fear I may have undertipped at the beginning unfortunately. Anyway, if you're in McLean and are looking for a cute place with great service to grab a small bite with a friend, check this place out. But don't go out of your way to visit because the food really does not stand out. read more

So many places to see and eat in DC but I HIGHLY recommend the locally owner piece of heaven in Mclean! So so yummy, a Cobb salad and Yuca fries are an amazing pair! If I can give 10 stars then I def would. Oh and I hear the burgers are popular too if your into that. read more

I was excited to come here because of the menu. Here's my break down: Food 3.5 Calamari was delicious Hummus was so/so (needed more lemon and salt) Beyond burger with spicy aioli YUM! Front 5 Customer service- awesome! We were well attended to Back of house 1.5 While eating our meal, I observed an employee stuffing her face with food with no concern of being seen by the public. Repeatedly stuck her gloved fingers in her mouth. My concern is whether or not she changed gloves after eating. We've been to this spot before and the food is consistently good, the prices aren't bad and the staff is attentive but not bothersome. We just visited The Union for the second time. Both time were outstanding. Today, we both had The Union burgers and they were very good. I had a side salad with mine and it was one of the best side salads I've ever had. No handful of lettuce with vinaigrette here. It had these great carrot spirals and the dressing was super. While the food experience was top notch, it was the service that impressed me the most. The staff is professional, positive, attentive, and top tier. Excellent food, excellent service. Easy parking. The Union is an order-at-the-counter-then-they-bring-your-order-to-you type of place. It's kind of brightly lit, which somehow isn't off-putting or weird when you're inside. It had a cozy feel to it. The clientele ranged from high school kids to senior citizen groups, with every age inside and outside that range. I didn't get beyond the first thing on the menu, grilled shrimp salad, before making my selection. It was absolutely perfect. My friend enjoyed her choices of soup with a hummus appetizer, which she also fully enjoyed. I will be returning often! read more

The shrimp were high quality and large but they didn't deep fry them which is what I expect with a po'boy. Fries were very good so I'm not sure why they didn't deep fry the shrimp. Great hidden gem! This was my first time at The Union. It's a laid back, cozy ambiance and the staff is very friendly. They have a full bar and a diverse menu. I started with the Thai Coconut Soup. It was very yummy, had a good kick to it, and contained plenty of shrimp. I then had a Union Burger with fries. The burger was delicious and the fries were perfect - crispy and tasty. Everything was very affordable with generous portions. And based on the crowd that showed up as dinner hour approached, it's clearly a local favorite. I'll definitely be back with my wife and kids, and highly recommend this family friendly hangout. read more

Wow, this place is such a hidden gem. I came here on a cold, snowy Saturday night, and it was quite busy! Clean, relaxed, spacious environment with excellent selection of food and drinks, including alcohol. The staff was very friendly, but not in a pretentious way. There is garage parking right next to the restaurant - super convenient. My medium rare NY steak tasted excellent - steakhouse quality minus the price tag (it came with mashed potato, but I asked them to hold it). The owner/manager came out and greeted all the tables, which was a nice gesture. Will definitely visit again next time I'm in the neighborhood. read more

I have only been here twice but I love, love their food! So fresh and delicious. Today I had the watermelon gazpacho which was FANTASTIC! I had to ask about the recipe. I also had the chicken sliders-a kind of shredded chicken in a delicious sauce on a toasted brioche bun. Ate every bit. The hot, crispy fries were also amazing. I'm trying to get my Elite groove back, can ya tell? I didn't get it this last year because I was not that active due to Covid. So I will be posting a lot! I really enjoyed the Chinese salad with added protein (chicken). I'm glad I was asked if I wanted to add a protein because I might not have added it and it made the salad that much better! I am a very picky eater and after work I was browsing on new places I wanted to try. Seen that this place was a five star and I had to see what the hype was about. I came with my husband and it wasn't a real restaurant, but that was cool too. I like the chill setting and the fact that they had outdoor sittings. The workers are very nice and pleasant. It's always nice to get happy, friendly people when you're at a restaurant cuz most places the servers don't seem to be happy and friendly. Well we ordered a few things, the salmon dish, a grill chicken salad and the lamb chops. Everything was great. The grilled chicken wasn't dried at all, the salad was just a typical salad, the salmon was great, and the lamb chops was amazing. The ambience is quaint and still very fresh and modern. Their food has never disappointed. Their house burger is one of the best options you could how to find locally in McLean over the past two decades. Also, their watermelon gazpacho was so incredibly tasty, we housed half of it before we remembered to take a photo! My most recent guilt pleasure: A burger AND fries from The Union! This is hands down the best gourmet burger in our area and their french fries are to die for. If this place delivered, then me and my belly would be in big trouble. They have an outdoor patio with socially distanced tables, as well as street parking right in front of their door for fast and convenience carry out. I periodically receive coupons from them in my mail which is what brought me there in the first place so keep an eye out! While in the Tysons area on a Friday we stopped in for lunch. I came here after seeing all the amazing reviews on social media and I wanted to see what the hype was about! The chef and order-taker were both very accommodating, helpful and friendly. Their menu is simple, it's loaded with sandwiches, salads and sides. The place is nice, several tables, all socially-distanced for "safety" and the staff were wearing masks. Condiments were single-serve as well. And for parking, there's a garage attached which is free to park in. We tried their Shrimp Po Boy and their Burger. The fries that came with both were AMAZING! Nice crunch to them and very tasty, hot and fresh! The Po Boy was unique, as the shrimp seemed more like it was sautéed or steamed rather than fried, like a traditional Po Boy. The roll it was in was AMAZING! One of the things that truly makes an authentic New Orleans Po Boy is the bread, since it's a rather basic sandwich overall and this bread was on-point! The lettuce and tomato were good, but the remoulade was very nicely done and really added a nice flavor to the Po Boy. Their burger was AMAZING! It was beautiful created in the first place and the meat was perfectly cooked. Not sure what the meat blend was, but it was perfect! The bacon on it was outstanding. The bun was UNBELIEVABLY soft, yet supportive enough to hold together and it was toasted and buttered, which added a very nice flavor to the overall burger. I've highly recommend it! I came here to specifically eat the Bombay panini sandwich and it didn't disappoint. It was really what a Bombay sandwich should be with beets, potatoes, onions and perfectly grilled. We also had the lambchops and the beet carpaccio sandwich and all the food was great. It's not a typical restaurant, we have to order food at the counter and it's Britton the table. On a Sunday evening, there was good amount of traffic. Will be back again definitely to try the burgers. read more
