Burgers are terrific! We've gotten takeout multiple times, and this is the only restaurant that consistently delivers on made to order burgers. I am amazed that the burgers stay medium rare, even after a 10 minute car ride home. Staff are very friendly. We haven't eaten in the restaurant itself. It is brightly lit, without much atmosphere. We stopped by with 2 other families after a long day of soccer and were happily surprised! You order at the counter and they bring the food out. Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks. The Moscow Mules were great- not too sweet- and served in the classic copper mugs. The Thai coconut soup was delicious and had just a hint of spice. The lamb chops were small, but the chimichurri was really flavorful. The yucca fries and calamari were delicious too. The owner/manager came out to see how our food was. He was very nice and welcoming, especially considering the fact that we had 7 kids with us! He even came back at the end with cookies for each child. First off this is a Covid careful place to eat. They have outdoor eating with kerosene heaters and plenty of space between tables. The staff all wear masks. Now for the food. I ordered the cod and it was so moist and flavorful. The presentation was on top of a bed of very delicious spaghetti squash that was colorful and firm. Yummy! The spartan decor and bright white fluorescent ceiling light, together with the supposedly well-stocked bar, create a confusing ambiance. don't know about the food but the cust service is worse than incompetent. periodically I'll receive a Dining Rewards $20 credit as part of T-Mobile Tuesdays reward program. I like to use these for trying out new places. the credit allows me to get anything on the menu up to $20 for FREE, as in NO CHARGE. I've never had a problem with this until I made the mistake of going here last night. the person taking my order was unable to distinguish this credit from the DR discount program and insisted I was only entitled to 25% off. Additionally while looking at the app on my phone the guy managed to debit $6 from my discount. So not only did I not get ANYTHING, they took $6 for which they weren't entitled and I'm pretty sure I now can't get an entree with what remains of my discount. Thanks for nothing, guys. You had one chance to make a good first impression and you blew it. read more

Really glad to have another option in McLean, where good places to eat are hard to come by. This is on the same street as our residence and we used a Groupon to find out about it. After opening in late January 2020, they closed for a while because of COVID but are now fully back open. Great food and service, plus outside seating. Recommended!!! read more

In a little town with so many places to eat, I find there to be a short list of viable casual sit down options. After 1 visit, The Union now sits firmly atop my list. This is a place you can stop by alone and have a quick meal, take a meeting, take the kids, have a casual drink/dinner, whatever. While contemplating my order they told me it's the best burger in town and I laughed and said then I need to try it. Turns out it might actually be true. Compliments to the staff as well. Very disappointed with the quality of the sandwich. They used burger bread instead of their original bagel bread. No utensil for take out was added and no napkins. I do not eat in restaurants frequently because I don't want to go out and pay exorbitant fees for food that is sub-par to that which I can cook at home, but the Union has become my go-to place! The Union Burger and their Cobb Salad (with steak) are the best I've ever eaten (and I am picky). Expect more of a cafeteria style where you order from the counter and they bring it to you, but the food is excellent, the prices are reasonable, and the people are wonderful. If you get a chance, shake the owner/executive chef's hand - he's a good human, and his team are all lovely. read more

This is a nice new fast casual restaurant in Mclean. It used to be an Indian restaurant and I think the owner maybe the same guy. I talked to him for a few minutes and he said that he had put a ton of $$$ into the space. It looks like it. Nice concept. Atmosphere is nice. I could see going here for happy hour. The Bahn Mi, you are really better off going to Graham Rd in Falls Church and getting something more authentic. I applaud their effort though. The baguette was a bit stale. The Asian salad was amazing, I have never taster dressing like that before and will certainly order that again. read more

This is a REALLY nice addition to McLean, VA. We have relatively few unique restaurants (a million pizza/Italian places) and this is definitely unique. It is a rather limited menu but the options are appealing. The chef brought dishes from his past experience and they advertise as the best burger in McLean. I might agree that it's one of the best and I would say the accompanying fries are delicious and cooked to perfection in terms of flavor and crispness. This is a nice upgrade to Joe's burgers in McLean which NEVER really impressed me. The salads look delicious and fresh and the banana creme brûlée was definitely amazing. They have local craft beers which was nice and a nice bar area if you want a burger and a beer ( hope they expand the number of craft beers). The atmosphere is bright, casual and open seating. The service was fantastic which is a real plus and hopefully it will continue. I came into this place with high expectations based on the yelp reviews. The person tending the counter was really nice, but this review is based on the food. The union burger is really nice conceptually but the toppings are so thin and meagre that you may as well just be eating a patty on a bun. I didn't even know that cheese could be sliced that thinly. A burger is usually a high margin menu item, so you shouldn't have to skimp on the toppings. With this corrected I think they'd have a really nice burger that's worth the price. read more

I found this restaurant via a mailer last month from the weekly penny-saver (or whatever it's called in NoVa). The mailer claims it's the "home of the best burger in town." I was certainly curious. Fast forward to earlier today (Wednesday June 10). It is now my second time here. Both times, I had the Union Burger with fries ($15) and both times I absolutely loved it! Today, I also tried the Southwestern Salad ($9). Even though I'm not a huge salad connoisseur, I enjoyed this one. My fiancé and I found this spot looking for somewhere to stop in for lunch in the area, and were blown away!! The staff is incredibly friendly, the bar area is fully stocked and roomy, and most importantly the food is NEXT LEVEL! Chef Sastry even brought out our meal and spoke with us for a bit. Turns out he was the Mayflower chef for a decade which we can evidently see in the quality of his food as we are about to get married there this year! I was in town on business and searched the internet for a good local restaurant. I was surprised to find this local 5 star rated restaurant. I stopped in for dinner mid week on a cold night. I was pleasantly surprised to find a nice wine and cocktail selection. I ordered the harvest vegetable soup and the steak. This is clearly a chef driven restaurant. The soup was made with freshly chopped abundant vegetables. The steak was cooked perfectly to my order and the sautéed onions I added were perfect. Fast." My husband and I decided to stop by mid-afternoon on a Saturday, just two weeks after The Union opened. We wanted to check it out and grab a late lunch. Hubby is a serious burger guy - and he likes his burgers cooked rare. And, it was. In fact, rave reviews all around on the burger. Bun had great texture, the bacon was plentiful and delicious, and the meat patty itself was sizable, especially for the price. Even the pickle on the side was good (not soggy), and the fries were perfect crispy. I went with the super flavorful ancient grain bowl, enhanced by the add-on of 5-6 succulent shrimp (plump and not overcooked, hooray!) - also a good deal price-wise. While the creative international-variety menu (salads, sandwiches, and entrees) seems straightforward, you can tell that care has gone into getting the details and subtle flavors right. While we sat at the mellow bar, we reluctantly decided to pass on alcohol at this point in the day, even though it took restraint as the impressive single-malt scotch selection, for one, was hard to resist. So, added bonus: a new, high-end bar option in McLean, but with a casual feel and moderate drink prices. And, a happy-hour food menu that looks pretty good. Very neighborhood-friendly vibe. We saw families at the tables (there's even a kids menu), as well as couples at the bar. We were appreciative of the friendly, attentive service by both James, the bartender et.al., as well as of course, the genius behind it all, Sastry. (Doesn't hurt that he was Executive Chef at The Mayflower Hotel, for folks who might be interested in that credential). P.S. Not unhappy that no music, by the way - or if there was, we couldn't hear it; just one TV. So, we could actually have a conversation, and hope that's always the case, even when the place is full. It's a definite 5 stars from me. Parking was super easy (always a plus) and the staff were super nice and inviting right from the get-go. You order at the counter and then they bring your drinks and food to your table, but can also order more at your table as well. We got the mint julep to drink, which was exactly as expected, and then the fattoush salad, lamb chops, and union burger to eat. The salad is not a traditional fattoush salad, but it really hit the spot. The lamp chops were super delicious, but also they were as small as lollipops! The best part was the burger, which was cooked perfectly and had super crispy fries on the side. It was a great meal for a good price (around $40 total), and definitely somewhere I'd go back to if I'm in the area. read more
