And she called of her lady buddy, and they talked in Korean for awhile, which, by the way, I could understand. She then said, "We can do another shipping method for $70" And I said, "There's no cheaper shipping? I don't need tracking or insurance or anything FYI" And they talked longer in Korean saying he doesn't want tracking (basically restating what I had just said). Then she goes, "The cheapest shipping method we have is $60 without tracking and without insurance." I said no thank you and left them. I went to the UPS in downtown and they did it for $15. Tried to ship 10 boxes after a convention. Took 4 in, and the owner, Sunny Park, said "No more, I won't ship any more packages." I mentioned that she is a UPS franchise, and it is her responsibility to service large corporate accounts, she said "I won't ship ANY of your packages now, get them out of here." DO NOT EVER USE THIS LOCATION. Just a few blocks away is a nice UPS store with very nice young men eager to help you. Go to the store at 1050 Bishop street instead. The lowest rating I've ever given a business. The lady is inhumanely rude and inhospitable. I've gone in many times just because it is right across the street. But just because of her business ethic I decided to go out of my way to patronize another branch. I'm sure she only takes on the UPS name to attract customers but does not want to dish out any of the service that accompanies the name. The only time I've been met with average customer service is if I'm directly patronizing her profits. If you are going to just drop off packages or get the free supplies that UPS corporate provides she will make sure your transaction is as unpleasant as possible so you don't come back to waste her time. I live in Virginia and I was helping my cousin try to get a certified copy of a birth certificate for emergency travel. It was 8 p.m. Hawaii time and we had 45 minutes until the Health Dept. in Honolulu closed. The birth certificate had to be picked up that day and mailed to make it in time. Everyone there did everything within their power to make sure I got the birth certificate! We were texting/calling/emailing between my cousin in Maryland, the Health Dept and the UPS Store to coordinate pick up times, phone numbers and release letters. I had so much stress over this and Sunny just took over and made sure it all happened. She dispatched Christian to pick it up and, just like that, it was done!!!! The birth certificate arrived earlier than was promised and everyone in my family was sooooo relieved. Thank you to the UPS Store, especially Sunny, for taking care of this and making something that was stressful for me happen seamlessly. Sunny was so friendly and reassuring and followed up with me to make sure the birth certificate had arrived on time. I cannot say enough about the generous, kind people at this UPS store. Even the person who answered the phone knew who I was after a few calls and would immediately get Sunny for me. I felt like I was dealing with family members who cared about this as much as I did. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. If I ever find myself in Honolulu, I will stop by and give everyone a big hug! They definitely know what they are doing at this UPS Store! DO NOT REROUTE YOUR PACKAGE TO THIS STORE FOR PICK UP! THEY WILL REFUSE YOUR PACKAGE AND IT WILL BE SENT BACK! I bought my son's Christmas gift online. I figured I would be at work when it was delivered so I went on UPS.com and had it rerouted to this store. When my package arrived in Honolulu, the tracking info said that the store refused my package and that UPS will contact me to find an alternate location to deliver it to (strange...). When they did not contact me that day, I called UPS the next morning. Btw, this whole thing transpired within two days of the package arriving. UPS informed that the store refused the package and that it was their policy to send the package back to the sender when this happens (without contacting the recipient apparently). I was totally dumbstruck, as to how a UPS Store can refuse a UPS package. They basically told me the store was a private franchise and had nothing to do with UPS... despite being called a "UPS Store" with the UPS logo on the storefront and everything. When I called the store to see why they refused my package, they nonchalantly told me that they were "at capacity". UPS then told me that there was nothing they can do and that it was my responsibility to contact the shipper to make new arrangements. I understand that the store can get full of packages waiting to be picked up especially during the holiday season, what really gets me is that nobody tried to contact me, the lack of continuity between UPS and these privately owned stores, and the lack of accountability. read more

Wow. My first 1-star goes to this UPS store. Time to step up your game, guys. Worst customer service EVER. I was returning a purchase with a prepaid packing label. No trouble, right? She made it sound like I wanted her to reach into a vipers den. The woman was rude, condescending and disrespectful. And I was being nice, not sarcastic or demanding. I even tried to lighten her angry mood by complimenting her outfit. Then she promptly charged me $2.09 for a strip of TAPE! For real? You're kidding right? You're a SHIPPING AND PACKING store. One strip of tape is gonna put you under? No. Just, no. I wouldn't have opened the box in the first place but I needed to retrieve the packing label! After politely slipping my dollars and dime to her she slapped a penny down and grumbled about the box and how wasteful the company was to make it so big. (It only weighed 12 ounces or so, but it was excessive for the size of merchandise.) She didn't have to do anything but tape the top and I would have done it if she handed me the tape. I've mainly come here to drop off my amazon returns, several times now. Every visit has been a good experience for me. I haven't had any trouble with parking. It is upstairs so if I've got a big package I've gotta bring it up the stairs (I'm not sure if there is an elevator somewhere), but I thank the Lord I'm a strong and capable girl. :) They have been kind and helpful every single time I've been in there. UPS Store on Makaloa Street has no customer service by the owner. Yes, the owner herself! Writing a review on my experience with her and also will file an official complaint to the corporate office. Owner was really rude ... I walked in and said "hello". No, acknowledgement. I asked if I could borrow tape, or do I need to use my own. She just looked at me like I was asking a dumb question and said, " you need your own, or you have to buy it". I said, ok ... I'll be right back (my tape was in the car). So as I was walking out, I asked her if she can just keep an eye out on my boxes. She didn't answer, so at the same time as another customer walked in, I repeated my question and waited while holding the door open. She looked at me after a few seconds and said, "I'm helping a customer!". So I was speechless and then said, " oh ok ... nvm then". So as I was getting my things, I said to her, you are so rude. Then she said, "no! You are rude!". I said, "all I asked if you could watch my things while I go get my tape". She kept insisting I was the rude one and she helping a customer. So I walked over to her and asked her what her name was and started to look at her name tag, and I then said, " oh you the owner?". She said, "that's right". I said, " really? BE WARNED - do not go to this UPS store for notary services. The maximum a Hawaii notary can charge for acknowledgments, jurats, verbal oath/affirmations is $5.00 per document and that is "technically" what this UPS store charged. HOWEVER, this store adds a "clerical fee" of $15.00 PER DOCUMENT! This seems like a potentially illegal way to charge more than the State determined limit for a notarized document. In the store there is a poster sized advertisement saying they have notary service, but the prices are not listed. I only went there because I needed a notary right away and the bank couldn't give me an appointment any sooner than a week. read more

Went in to mail a return item to Amazon. The two lads (Gibeom & another man) working were very helpful and even helped me bring up my heavy parcel from the car. Reason for 2 stars: The Korean woman who seems to come up repeatedly in these yelp reviews was extremely rude. While Gibeom was kindly and speedily processing my shipment, the woman rummaged through my things. There was no need for her to open up my box (especially as she had nothing to do with my transaction) but you could tell she's just a nosy middle aged Korean woman who likes to look at what other people have. The clerk, Gibeom, finished my transaction and bid me farewell, but as I was stepping out the door, the woman called me back in to pay for a single piece of tape. I find it ridiculous that this woman had the audacity to charge me $5 for a piece of tape. I was appalled at how cheap and miserly this woman was about tape and so bought a full roll to take with me. It made more sense if UPS sells an entire roll of tape for $4.95, and the woman is asking the same for the service of placing one piece of it on my box, to simply buy the damn roll and mentally spit in her petty face. read more

Zero stars. Called this location on MLK Jr. day to explain my shipment situation -- returning an item with a half page size return label in a small box, and that the label is larger than the box fitting over two sides of the box. I was told by the female employee over the phone to come in to the store with the box and they will use a plastic cover for the return label. No mention of the label needing to fit entirely on one side of the box. When arriving at the store an old Asian male employee immediately told me it is impossible to ship the box, as the label must lay flat on one side. I explained that I called about 30 mins earlier to confirm that it was possible and he proceeded to call me "lady" telling me he would not do it. He tried to sell me a larger $5 box, which I declined. I asked to speak with the female employee who I assume I spoke with over the phone before leaving. When she came over, she agreed to ship the box and attempted to stick the label on one side of the box so that the bar codes were still flat on one side. As she began doing so, the male employee came over and ripped off the label saying to me, "lady, we will not do it! Go take your box home." 1) You need to calm down. At no point was I aggressive or upset. I wasn't saying you were wrong, however I did want to confirm with the female with whom I spoke with over the phone at this location, as I had driven all the way there solely for this shipment. (Only one male and one female worker in the store) 2) I came here with this box for a reason -- I was told it was possible. You gotta hear me out before going nuts about it being impossible. I had to send a UPS package add well as priority mail and they do both so I stopped in. They accepted my UPS package as it was prepaid. However I wanted to send a box flat rate to the mainland and was rudely informed by the boss that they don't do flat rate because they aren't the post office. I was unaware they didn't offer the same rates as the post office, but rather than telling me politely, the woman laughed in my face as she told me. I needed to return a item l bought on Amazon and went to this UPS store. As l walked there was a Korean man to the left of me looking at his phone. I thought he was customer and waited next to him for the salesperson for about 4 seconds. He then, "ask me if l needed help." I replied, "l needed to return this to Amazon". He stated, that l have to seal the envelope. I asked him if l use some packing tape. No response from him. There was a box of packing tape for sale near the cash register. He didn't offer to use his tape so was implying me that l had buy it. I asked him, how much was it? His daughter answered that it was $6.00. What a rip off! You can get the same packing tape cheaper at Long's. After l purchased the tape. I pulled the tape forward but it slipped out of my hand and went back on the spool. He took the tape from me but had a hard time finding the beginning of the tape. He then, grabs his own tape gun and seals my envelope. Wow, really! I will never go back! No Aloha. Went here to return a speaker for a warranty exchange yesterday. Brought my speaker in a box that had already contained what I thought was sufficient bubble wrap. All it needed was tape to seal. I was helped by the lady behind the counter when she told me that I would need to buy additional wrap for $3. I was a bit turned off because I thought I brought enough. So I went ahead and said yes. Handed her my credit card when I found out there was a $5 minimum.... Since when does a huge corporate entity like UPS mandate a $5 minimum?!? I told her I didn't have cash so she suggested I buy something. Wtf do I need from a UPS store that I couldn't get in my office? So instead of shipping it here I went to the Kahala location where I was charged $1 for tape, but didn't have a credit card minimum. It was so painless there. I went in hoping to return some Zappos shoes, and was appalled at the attitude of the personnel. Apparently something was missing from my documents, and after lugging several large, bulky boxes up the stairs by myself and finding the error, I tried my best to understand where the discrepancy had occurred. Instead of being helpful, the response from the personnel was more along the lines of 'you should have had your things sorted before you came in here'/ 'this is not our responsibility to know this'/ an overall 'I told you so' attitude, to which I responded with shock and confusion. This exchange continued on for 15+ minutes while I was on the phone with customer service trying to sort it out, until I finally said, "all right - I was wrong and you were right, is that what you want to hear?". Only then did the increasingly negative exchange end. I finally reached the end of my (usually plentiful) patience, without completing my transaction. Only now am I seeing the previous reviews, and am so disappointed I did not have time to check the reviews beforehand and wasted so much time and energy. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this place again. read more

This UPS store is an outlier, the customer service here is very uneven and sometimes down right horrible. After coming here a few times, I now realize that its very dependent on who assists you. Sometimes it's fast, friendly and very efficient, but other times yikes! It was very obvious that to the older Korean lady who assisted me and the customer who was in front of me that we were bothers, necessary evils that she was forced to deal in order to collect a paycheck, rather than embrace us as those who provide her job security. Her eye rolls and condescending tones of voice were very noticeable. She told the guy in front of me "if you don't like it, go somewhere else" and then scolded me for using the electronic QR code on my iPhone to process my Amazon return, rather than come in with it printed out on paper. Management needs to address this issue if they care about improving their reputation and Yelp ratings. Its sad when one bad apple spoils it for the other employees who are trying to do a good job. read more

The customer service here is horrific. I paid $48 for 2nd day air and it took over a week to deliver my package. I then called the owner of the store to politely request a refund unaware of the refund process. I asked for a refund on my card (original form of payment) instead of a check in the mail. Instead of explaining the refund process to me, she yelled at me saying, "I don't make the rules! Call UPS and get your own refund!", and I was livid. Owners who can't communicate with customers should not be in business. Do yourself a favor and go to another location. read more

Of the two UPS stores I've ever been to, this one has to be the worst... Immediately when you walk in, you notice something... it's a HUGE MESS! The store isn't neatly laid out like others with areas to make copies, package, ship, etc. I'm not sure if you can even print/make copies at this location. Also, though this is a UPS store, half the store was also covered in materials and boxes for Hanjin... I don't think this is how UPS would want their stores stores to represent the company, but this particular store owner appears to have his own set of priorities. I believe it would UPS should inspect its stores to ensure they are presented and operated properly. What also didn't help was the fact that another customer was shouting at an employee nearly the entire time I was there... what about? I do not know, the lady was shouting in Korean. She did have the nerve to move next to me and shout louder when a different employee began to help me though... Right to refuse service? Anyhow, the reason I came to this particular location rather than another or going to FedEx instead is because UPS's website said that this store had a 7:00pm pickup and could still do an Next Day Air delivery on that day. Price quoted on UPS's website (from HNL to Irvine, Calif. including insurance and surcharges) was about $50 for a 4 pound box (since I didn't know the exact weight of my box). However, the people at the store told me that Next Day Air was impossible and that my 1.6 pound box would cost $45 for 2nd Day Air. I don't know why there is such a great discrepancy in capabilities and pricing, but this is something that should be addressed. I chose to give this location 2 stars rather than one because the guy was friendly. Next time I'll just go to FedEx. read more
