I have been trying to kill this place with kindness for the seven years that I have lived in Orinda and it has never worked. Everyone except for one person that works at this store is so angry and not friendly. I dread going in. Every time I give a friendly hello and every time I get a look of disdain. This store is under new ownership. I had been sending packages off from here for years. The value was good, the service was friendly and reliable. I sent dozens and dozens of packages both domestically and internationally. Today I had three domestic packages to send. I was shocked that what formerly would have been a $20 package was being quoted to me at $100 and up. I had to keep asking and finally got a price of $16 for the slowest delivery. When I finally got rung up, three $16 packages came out to over $90. They added additional charges for a tracking number, a box, the service of putting it in a box, and other things. None of these were charged before, and I was advised of none of these charges in advance. I will no longer be using this store or UPS for my shipping. FedEx was a much much much better deal. They have cleaned the store up nicely and they wear neat uniforms but what should've been $60 was almost double that. No thanks. read more

Came in here to return an Amazon order. Was not greeted by any of the three ladies working at the store. In fact, two were in conversations with each other while the other was entering numbers into a computer. After waiting politely for about 5-7 seconds, I said, "Happy New Year" and was immediately told by the latter of the three ladies to wait while she enters her receipts into the computer. Rude. I came in and instantly saw that everyone seemed very optimistic in helping me with my shipment. They made the process so easy for me to get in and out even and explained the shipment details to me thoroughly. They were very friendly and had me leaving with a smile! Thank you Damion for being so helpful and getting me out of the store within 5 minutes. The print label fee and tape costed me $5 total. I run a law firm located close to this UPS store. I have used them for all sorts of things over the years. I walked in yesterday and the employees were playing some kind of game where they were hitting each other with tape rolls. I needed to get ten boxes of documents shredded securely which UPS advertises that they will do. I interrupted the manager from the tape game and asked if they could shred the documents. He said that they could put them out back in the recycle bin for a fee and laughed at me. I left. I called to speak to the manager today and explained what happened. She told me that as long as her employees were not hurting customers, it was not her problem and that I should move along and try to ruin someone else's day. This is so strange because I have been to this store so many times over the years. Never again. read more

Amazon clearly directs you to UPS with instructions that no packaging is necessary for a free return. Under new ownership, this store now charges $2 to process unlabeled Amazon returns, so I'm now taking them to Lafayette when I have errands there, and am not charged. If the policy has changed, Amazon needs to notify customers. Until then, I'm not revisiting this store. read more

I came in here on a Monday afternoon. Small location with a long line, but patrons seemed to be processed quickly. I was grateful for the patience the woman who helped me had. In the midst of how busy it was she was friendly and calm and took the time to thoroughly help me navigate an international package shipment. Wow customers do not feel appreciated for their business here. Patty Rivera is so so so negative, complaining continually while we were here about not having enough help in the store, slamming the phone down after a customer calls because she says she is so swamped but literally 2 people in line. Saying stupid copy machine is jamming again etc. Literally complained huffing 15 times in 15 minutes. As a customer this is not how you should be treated. The UPS store is located in one of the shopping centers in Orinda. There is plenty of parking. I have been to this particular UPS store to mail packages as well as avail myself of their notary services. The service is okay - definitely efficient, but not really all that friendly. This location is conveniently located for me, so, despite the above, I will continue to frequent this store. read more

This location has the worst customer service possible -- I do not know how UPS allows them to use the brand. They charge $2 per foot for a piece of tape and shipping prices are outrageous -- $30 to send a small lightweight package from Oakland to Chico. I could drive it there myself cheaper. Tape is free at the Post Office. The staff is rude and unhelpful. Go someplace else. read more

On September 15, I dropped a package (at the UPS store on Alcatraz) with expensive headphones, a suit and some shoes my son had left behind when moving to LA. I insured the headphones and asked for it to be signed by the recipient. I was assured it would arrive on the 19th at the EARLIEST, if not later "because of Covid" (I actually had the employee repeat that information). 1. The package was "delivered" two days earlier (on the 17th) 2. The "driver" (doubtful it was ever in the hands of a driver) conveniently signed in the place of my son because "they" deemed the package to be "at the correct address and safely delivered". 3. Well, there was no package ever delivered at my son's address. My son was home at the time of "its supposed delivery", no one knocked or went up the stairs. He did not expect the package at the time but he has proof he opened his front door 25 minutes after its "delivery" and there was no package at the door. To this day, my package has been considered as "lost" or maybe "stolen from where it was delivered". I filed a complaint but never got an apology or an explanation. "The package was delivered, we don't know where it is, not my fault" was the answer! After reading the reviews, I see I am not the only one in this situation!! UPS, you'd do well to investigate on these "lost" packages a bit more thoroughly. I am not sure what you all will do but I will certainly never go back to UPS and especially not at their Alcatraz branch. They lost my trust. read more

DO NOT USE FOR NOTARY SERVICE. I went here to get a chance stack of real estate documents notarized. They charged me something like $120 just to put the same stamp on a bunch of different pages. But whatever, those were their prices, so I paid it. Today, I went to the county to file the documents and was told the notary stamp was in the wrong place. The country person was helpful, even had a sheet already printed up showing where it was supposed to go. Apparently the rule changed 3 years ago. I'm not sure what this UPS store is doing for their $10 per signature, but clearly not staying up on the rules of being a notary. Avoid, is my advice. read more

Review #070 - 2016 I've been coming to this UPS store for as long as I've lived in Orinda so I'm not sure why I haven't written a review. The place is small, but they provide fast & friendly service. I've used their notary service on several occasions and never had to spend more than five minutes for someone to help me & be on my merry way. Dropping off my UPS packages is just as quick and simple. I usually preprint my labels from home and pack everything up so when I get there, all I need to do is just hand someone my package and I'm good to go. I've never had to ask for a receipt because my packages have always made their way to their destinations every time. Sometimes, I even come here to drop off packages for USPS & purchase stamps even though our post office is only in the next lot over because everyone here is so much more friendlier and service is super quick. They also don't charge you for using their packing tape like the post office does. Definitely nice to have a place that you can trust with your parcel needs... read more

Even though I live in Berkeley, I go to Orinda quite often, and when I needed a mail box, I selected this UPS Store. A box at any UPS Store costs more than one at US Post Office, but UPS will accept mail from any carrier--the United States Postal Service, UPS, Fedex, etc. The Post Office won't, and this precluded me from choosing them. My company often mails me packages via UPS. Since I work during the day, this meant I wasn't home to sign for them, and I'd have to drive to the UPS distribution center in Richmond during my spare time. My work involves a lot of driving, so I like to avoid it when I can. I also was having problems with the security of my mail and packages in Berkeley. I'd come home to find my mail partially opened, especially any mail looking like a greeting card containing money, and in once case I had a delivery confirmation package left at my home and stolen while I was out. The vendor (an out-of-state indie music store) gave me a hard time and didn't want to refund me. I didn't want to go through that again. I called around to the different UPS Stores. Their rates for the same sized boxes varied by location, and their customer service varied as well. I tend to avoid the branch location closest to my home because the young men there often have the manner of used car salesmen; they're fake friendly and aggressive with the upsell. The Orinda location had competitive prices compared to Berkeley's branches, and the staff there have been great. They're genuinely friendly and helpful. They recognize me and my husband and know our names. They're even patient when I've been travelling and my packages larger than my box have been piling up. They'll even give me a call to let me know when that's happening. When it's time to renew my box there, I will. read more

It may be a smaller location but that means shorter waits and better, more attentive service when you need it. There is usually a special of some kind going on with making copies, and on those rare occasions when you need to get something faxed or notarized, it is usually an in-and-out process. Maybe not the best place for shipping supplies when you want to make a large purchase order but if you just need a box or envelope or two it's good to have another option. And if you want to get rid of documents and papers by shredding them, they can help you with that as well. read more

Great service, as alway - and friendly employees. I walked in with a pre-paid label and box. Both employees were involved with helping a customer. The female employee who was deep in conversation, looked at me and asked, "Oh, do you just need to drop that off? Here, I'll take it." I come here frequently and overall the experience is great. Like all human beings, sometimes someone can be a bit grumpy. But that's to be expected. They are very busy and deal with a lot of high-maintenance people here in this community. If this were not here, make life would be a lot more difficult. Have always had excellent service at this location for many years with packages and packaging, UPS and USPS shipments, notary service and supplies. Waits are short and the staff is helpful and friendly, even popped open the door once after hours to take my package. The only problem I've ever had was with a passport photo, which was so unrecognizable, that it was useless. The problem is that they shoot so close to you with such a short focal length that you end up with practically a fisheye image. read more

I went in to send a package for Christmas. The woman acted like it was a HUGE deal to double check a zip code for me....then she stated that it would not get there before Christmas. I said no problem, can we use a faster service? She rolled her eyes at me and informed me that she could do it faster but it would be a lot more expensive (mind you I had not commented on price at all, because it didn't matter to me). I said no problem and then she huffed and puffed all the way through my transaction, making me feel crazy for spending so much on shipping....at a shipping store. I left feeling like I had done something wrong by my giving THEM money for a service THEY offer! I will never go there again- rude rude rude! read more

The Orinda UPS store needst to make some staffing changes. Notably to Patti. I noticed mine is not the only negative review about her. I walked in today about 12:10. There were three women working, including Patti. The other two were helping customers. Patti looked at the customer ahead of me and said we will be with you shortly. OK, no problem. Another few seconds when by and she asked the customer what she needed. The lady said a notary and Patti said she would have to wait. The lady pointed to the other worker and asked if she should wait for her. Patti said, "well I can do it, but we can't all be doing notaries at the same time." The woman calmly mentioned she called ahead. Patti loses it huffed, walked away and throws something on a counter, comes back and says "We are super slammed. You have to cut us some slack." Now I know there are was this can be said that would not necessarily be grounds for a negative review. However, this was said with such a condescending, combative tone, I knew immediately I needed to contact the manager/owner about this woman. Completely unacceptable behavior. If she doesn' want to be working in a customer service capacity, then she needs to look for another job. That customer did absolutely nothing wrong, was not hostile in any way whatsoever. Seriously, UPS Orinda, consider letting this one go. read more

If I could give a "zero" star that's what this UPS store deserves! Last week I had to send 6 envelopes via UPS. While I was setting up the things I needed to ship out I could hear the owner commenting on everyone and everything. He will nickel and dime ALL his customers. One of my envelopes needed a bar code, I asked the lady behind the counter if they had a computer I could use to print out an address and bar code. She said there's a fee I have to charge you, I asked her it's just an email I could forward to her so they could print out the address. She stated if the owner is here I have to charge you, or you could walk over to the library and use their commuter. Then she suggested for me to forward the email to their UPS email address and she would open it and print it for me at "no charge". While I was leaving the store, another lady behind the counter yelled you owe us $5.00, I thought she was kidding so I proceeded to leave and the owner came from the back and yelled "You don't think this service is for free do you?" I explained the other lady said there was no charge if I forward UPS the email , the owner lashed out and said" pay the $5.00, and if you don;t like it you don't have to come back!" I was in complete shock, obviously it's not about the money, it was the rudeness in the owner and one of the dark hair older middle age lady that works there. I told the owner where is the customer service here? Why are you yelling and speaking badly to your customers? He just kept repeating "don't come back here, go someplace else" I have never seen or witness such rudeness not just form the employ but from the owner!! I will NEVER EVER step foot in the UPS store in Orinda on Orinda Way ever again!! I will be willing to drive farther to another UPS store than to give any business to that rude, distasteful owner!!! DO NOT GO THERE!!!! They appear to be nice and helpful BUT they are not!!!! This is NOT how you run a business!! They need to close down the Orinda UPS store! read more
