    The Pocket-Greenhaven

Adj: bustlingly brisk and busy, but effectively efficient…read more This UPS store is a very busy one in the Lakecrest shopping plaza at the corner of Florin Rd and Greenhaven Dr near I-5. From before the store opens, there could already be people ready to promptly pounce upon the store to ensure they get in the head of the line that quickly grows. It's that bustling pretty much every day of the week no matter the time of the day. This used to be the only place to return Amazon items and it was really busy then, but now there are other stores to drop off Amazon returns so this UPS store is more for dropping off packages to ship, copy and printing services, and fingerprinting and other official services such as getting documents notarized. On our most recent trip here, hubby and I got our fingerprinting done here to volunteer for a non profit organization, and we came out here early one weekday morning to try to beat the crowd and we kind of did, but while we were getting our prints done, the line grew long and the only gal staffing the store couldn't get to others so we let her help a couple of people who just had to print a document or ship an item so that the line would shorten before she continued to help us. In case anyone also need to get this process done, just a heads-up that the finger printing machine could be a bit glitchy or picky, so there were a few redos of certain of our digits, but overall, the young lady who helped us was very efficient and also surprisingly calm even as the line grew and grew and grew of people who came after us. When we asked, she let us know that she's the only one on duty for the first hour or so and then another coworker would come in, I think they really need two people to open the store as surely there's always a crowd building up right away at the start of their business day. So one star taken off for that because they really need at least 2 persons at all times or at least at peak times like in the mornings, to meet the demands of the many customers. For the most part, I still think this is a good store, service is friendly and helpful. They are patient with less technical customers who come in to print documents because they don't own computers or printers or just need help in general. As for value, I'd say all of their stationery and shipping merchandise are all pretty expensive bc the items are marked up since buying them here would be a convenience, vs having to buy a shipping envelope or Scotch tape or scissors or pens and markers, etc somewhere else to get one's packages ready BEFORE coming to send off your shipment. Overall, this is a good neighborhood UPS store and hopefully their goods and services provided will continue to be high quality and attentively efficient.

So this is one very busy UPS store in the Lakecrest Village Shopping Center off of i5 and Florin in…read morethe Greenhaven area. It's convenient for me to stop at this store to drop off shipping packages as it's not too far from me, but it's always busy from my experience, so I try to go first thing in the morning when it opens. They also take Amazon returns here, so the line can really build up. But this time as I was dropping off, I noticed that there's a new (to me) kiosk machine thing that will scan your pre-paid label and provide a digital or printed receipt, nice. Then you can just leave your package on the counter and go on your way without having to line up in the quite long line, as this was before 9am and there was already half a dozen people in line. The store also sells lots of shipping stuff like boxes, mailing envelopes, stationery (pens, markers, tape etc.) to label and seal your mailing packages or envelopes, but all marked up in prices since they expect people to come prepared with their packages all ready to go. So if your shipping items are not ready, and you need to get some tape, yup, it's gonna cost ya. I always make sure my packages are ready to go for this reason, thank you to my wife. All in all, a decent place, but they really need 2 people to open or at least 1 more person coming in within the first half hour when the store opens at 8:30 in the morning. The line can be really slow, the staff was fingerprinting someone so the line was halted until she's done with that customer or the other staff arrives. This is not sustainable in my book.

Staples - Meh. In the ghetto...

    Staples

Adj: Expansive, but sometimes Expensive, except for the Bin Wins…read more Staples has become a little bit of more things each time I stop by. Today was another Amazon return, just a small item. The Hubby told me about the bins in the back so after checking out Party City displays again (graduation season is almost here apparently) and a quick look at phone cases, I took some time to go "treasure hunting" at the back of the store since it happened to be a Thursday and everything drops down to the lowest price of the week. Bin wins is what this section called, the bargain hunting, "falling prices"-like bins. Very interesting and truly a mish mash of items, a real deal seeking and random finds type of experience. I ended up finding some cute erasers from Valentines day that comes with little boxes that I plan to save to fill with candies and give the INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED (wasteful but perfect in this case) animal erasers to the Samaritan's Purse Operation Child Christmas Shoeboxes project or a church we know who goes to Mexico at least once a year with similar Christmas shoeboxes filled with gifts for children in very hard to reach areas of Mexico. So that was a perfect find. There was just so much very random and some bizarre items, and of course items from as far back as Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas so that Valentine's Day items seemed not so long ago, lol. Still it was kind of fun. I even found a box of individually wrapped ginseng and other Chinese herbs tea and dried fruits and goji berries that even have little bags to put them into for infusing/ steeping, that should be a healthy tea. One thing you can do is check for reviews on Amazon since these items are all returns or overstocks from there. The tea had good reviews and were still being sold online. Overall, it was a fun but kind of overwhelming experience as there were like 6 large bins or so, and while there was quite a lot of repeats, the FOMO was strong and caused me to want to check everything in every bin (almost). Hubby was right, it was strange in a good way, but the deals are there if you took the time and happen upon some things that you actually need and which have been discounted deeply. It is very much like falling prices according to a friend, but I've not gone there yet so I can't say for myself yet. At Staples, who knew?!

While…read moregoing to return a couple of items from Amazon for the family, I decided to wander around and window shop a bit. What do you know? There's a new thing going on. Yup, a new feature at an old store, that makes it maybe worth visiting more frequently. Starting every Friday, bins in the back area filled with Amazon (and maybe a few other vendors') leftover stuff for $15 and going down each day until on Thursdays what remains gets priced down to $2. Really anything can be in these bins from holiday decorations to clothing to even phone protective cases. I'm going every Friday to check the bins in the back now. That aside, this is the place for office equipment and free e-wasting for electronics. We were helped by Robert today when doing the Amazon returns and then again when purchasing a few of the bargain bin finds, and he was an excellent and super friendly associate. Props to him for his great customer service, positive attitude, and hope we see him more in the future.

However, they tried to charge me an additional $250 because they said the weight and the dimensions were incorrect. Fortunately, I had the sending company validate the weight and size and the receiving company did the same. uShip stepped in and disputed the additional charge and got it withdrawn. If you go with Central Transport make sure you document the load dimensions and weight on both ends or they will try to upcharge you. This seems to be their modus operondi.

My shipment was clearly labeled residential with liftgate, I even called and made sure: every. single. morning. sometimes on hold for an hour. My current shipment they assigned to a driver with NO liftgate to a residential pickup every-single-day for nearly two weeks, despite calling EVERYDAY to confirm the BOL & Pickup was clearly assigned as a residential liftgate pickup. I also gave them non-restricted all day pickup hours, they couldn't make it for nearly 2 weeks. I have already reported them to my business associates who provided me with the shipping carrier though partnered programs. I understand delays during the issues we are facing in Q4 2021, I get a few days delay, I get mistakes, but Reddaway, R&L, YRC, none of them as are as late and as CTI. Why cant they just schedule me a week out and actually be on time vs. promising to show up every day and missing the time slot is beyond me. I have no comment on LTL or FTL shipments to docks, but their liftgate services are abysmal. My understanding from hits from the customer rep is that the Sacramento location only has 1-2 lift gate trucks at a given time and lag time is a week or so...
