I was excited to have a UPS store a block from my apt building so eagerly looked forward to its opening, and it has not disappointed! Have already used a range of services from getting a passport (they do passport photos!) to dropping off Amazon items for return (they pack them!) to the usual shipping...& the odd emergency office supply purchase. The staff is helpful and efficient, couldn't be more pleasant and accommodating. Outstanding addition to the hood! And they observe all Covid rules, so feel comfortable doing business there. read more

I went to have a document notarized and spoke with the notary, but since it was 9:15 she refused to notarize the document and told me I could stand there till until 10. Apparently the owner will only allow her to notarize between 10-12 & 1-5. So frustrating. I was balancing my kid and a million other things. It's so hard to get there and park, but as she said, "those are our rules." I have done a ton of business here, but never again. read more

That's kinda funny the only other review is a 1 star. I used to live in capitol hill a few years ago and so through that unfortunate twist of fate this was the closest UPS store to me. I get so irritated thinking about the waste of time it was visiting this location and the poor customer service. The manager on duty was such an asshole. As soon as I walked up to the counter in my big puffy coat (it was the winter), pulling my handtruck behind me, he started looking at his watch and rolling his eyes. I couldn't believe it. Perhaps because of the proximity to the White House he thought he should only be helping senators, or senators' aides, or senators' mistresses, or even senators' aides' mistresses. But, dammit, as bummy as I looked, I could have been any of the above!!! And even if I was a bum - or "homeless person" - my dirty, crinkled dollars are just as good as anyone else's! Anywhoo, at the time I was trying desperately to return some equipment to Verizon (ha, that's another review). It was time sensitive because if they didn't get it in a certain amount of time I would get billed for the items After spending literally hours on the phone with Verizon, they finally got some paperwork straightened out and were able to get me return shipping authorization and all that good stuff. All I had to do was go to UPS and give UPS the paperwork. I was told it was straightforward and easy and is the normal return procedure with Verizon. WRONG. Not at this location! I was palmed off to another associate who didn't know how to process the return. She seemed very sure of herself and told me they did "many" such simple returns to Verizon. But, then she proceeded to tell me I had the wrong form number or some other kind of BS. The manager continued to be an asshole and hovered in the background informing us how the Verizon equipment was "too heavy" and that they could "not legally ship" it because of weight restrictions. OMG. So basically, my stuff was NOT shipped that day. I went to my go-to UPS store in Del Ray, Alexandria, VA which is 5 star location and it was exactly as quick and easy as it's supposed to be. Literally 5 minutes, in and out. I even got a free sandwich that day as they were having a customer appreciation day (YOU HEAR THAT CAPITOL HILL???) I used to have a job which required a lot of shipping. Each UPS store is owned and managed by a franchisee so there is a WORLD of difference between different locations. So in summation: This location sucks. The Del Ray location rocks. The end! Update 2/18/2011: Hilarious! There are now 5, 1 star reviews for this place. How can any franchise tank this badly? Seriously, how fucking terrible does a mundane chain store have to be to get this many abysmal reviews? Damn, Capitol Hill UPS...YOU SUCK! They stole my packages, a heater and a pair of shoes that I dropped off on Tuesday last week, this will be my 3ed time returning to the store with my ups drop off receipt of the packages. Amazon have no record of the packages being dropped off let alone of them receiving them. read more

Every time I call the store and press the zero to be connected, I am disconnected. Had the same problem last month and was told their phones were broken. Who runs a business like that?! I am a forwarding mailbox customer who is paying big bucks for service, but every month I have to call and bug them to send me my mail; that is, if I can even get them on the phone. As others have reported this UPS Store charges $2 for tape and don't have the kindest employees working there. I went there today to send back a package and just needed a piece of tape to put the shipping label on. Yes they really do try to charge you $2 for a .05 cent piece of tape. I asked if they were serious and they sure were. At this time I had no idea what other Yelpers were reporting. I asked the two employees if they ever heard of Yelp. They said "yes" and they said "You go ahead and write your Yelp review." I went next door to the Pound on the Hill restaurant and they kindly gave me the piece of tape I needed. Upon return to the store with my taped package they told me that you dont tape packages with scotch tape. They said they would tape my package which did not need anything else if I gave them a good Yelp review. I gave them a 2 star instead of the 1 which I was planning on giving. Sorry UPS Store on Pennsylvania... this franchise owner/management needs to address its employee training and revisit its $2 for any tape policy. read more

I have never had a problem with the establishment but don't plan on driving there with a lot of boxes. Mainly because the parking is horrible. I get a ticket every time I come there and I'm just unloading my boxes and there's no one there to help you unload. SMH. It's a loading zone and no parking and no standing and a bus zone right in front of this place. Parking enforcement definitely made me not return to this location ever again! read more

I'm a UPS MyChoice member and I had a package shipped to this store. The day after it got delivered it was returned to sender. I called the store to ask why and they said they had too many packages. My package was smaller than a piece of paper and they didn't even get me the courteous of reaching out. How can you not take packages for pickup, especially during the holidays. read more

I've only had positive experiences at this location. All of the staff who I've interacted with have been incredibly helpful and at times, they've gone out of their way to help. When you ship with them a few times, they create an account for you, which streamlines the process a bit. I've never been charged for extra tape. This is Capitol Hill, though, so I I imagine it is their policy to charge for as many things as possible. It will just depend on who helps you when you stop by. If you are ever by Eastern Market, I would highly recommend this location over the USPS across the street. read more

They were extremely busy - I forgot the holidays are approaching - but the staff kept the line moving quickly and they were professional and friendly. They gave me information about delivery times - making sure about when it would need to arrive at the destination - and inquired about the need for insuring the package. On Wednesday July 2, I needed an urgent package to be in Kentucky by the close of business on Monday July 7. I hadn't gotten out of work in time to go to the post office, so I headed to UPS. I had done a little research and based on online price quotes, UPS was cheaper than FedEx. It had been a rough day. I was leaving for vacation at zero dark thirty the next morning and hadn't packed a thing. I spent most of Wednesday tying up loose ends at work only to find out at 4 pm that a document package I had yet to compose needed to physically (not just postmarked) be in Kentucky on Monday 7 July. No extension was available, and I'd be sending the package with one less business day (July 4) to work with. Needless to say, I showed up to UPS a little on the frazzled side. James helped me at the counter, and all was going well until he said..."Ohhhhhh....we can't ship to P.O. boxes." Ughhhhhhhhhhhh. I didn't have a street address for the package, and I was flying out at 8 am the next morning...to an island...meaning even if I brought the package with me, there'd be little to no chance of it making it to Kentucky by Monday. After explaining my dilemma to James, he worked his magic (or witchcraft...who knows?) and somehow was able to send the package through USPS via UPS. I didn't ask questions, I just sealed the package, got a receipt and was on my merry way. The best part was I paid less than had I sent the package through UPS! Brilliant! Thank you, James, for whatever you did that day to send my package. It was one less thing I had to worry about before going on vacation. read more

I've used UPS, particularly the store on Pennsylvania Ave., SE for the past five years. I've never had a package lost or even later than the projected time of arrival. Service is great and while I always seem to end up getting served by Mike, I'm glad. I couldn't ask for a more attentive and courteous employee. read more

Entered the store, asked for the notary and the young woman indicated that the notary left at 4. Either they need to change the message or they weren't telling the truth. read more

I have been retrieving my sister-in-laws mail for the past 3 years and built up a good relationship with the staff who I gift from time to time. Without a hitch, I'm in and out. Today, Michael the owner was there. I had 20 + packages to pick up and he told me he would have to scan each of these in. It took 2 minutes to get the first scanned in and I asked if it were necessary. He said that he would not be held responsible which I agreed. Then he got angry and said to get my sister-in-law on the phone who was in a meeting. He started putting my packages back and I asked his name again which he said Michael, do you want me to spell it out for you. Michael obviously doesn't know customer service just an owner of a business. Treat your customers like gold Michael, they pay your bills. read more

The customer service here is atrocious. It's as if the people working here don't understand that their job is to help people mail packages. I waited in line for 40 minutes only to be told that they couldn't scan a bar code off a smartphone (even though the UPS email with the barcode was specifically sent to me for that purpose), and that there wasn't anything they could do to help me. I wasted my lunch hour and two metro rides and left without mailing the package. I hope the management of this store is aware of how much business his/her employees likely are turning away. If you need a one tiny piece of tape for a box, this store will charge you $2.00, yes, that's $2 for a 1 cent piece of tape. I used to go here regularly but I'd rather give my money to the USPS or Fedex. I advise you do the same. read more

I'm writing to warn anyone who may live on Capitol Hill and use The UPS Store at 611 Penn Ave. I had a very upsetting--and expensive--experience there a few weeks ago and even the follow up with "management" at the store was appalling. On Saturday, July 25th I brought the item to that store, 611 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, Washington, DC, to be packed. The item at hand was a lighted bar sign--about 3 feet wide and 3 feet tall, but delicate as the fluorescent lights are easily breakable. the employee, Nathanial, waited on me. I asked him if he could pack the object in a box that fit it and that it wasn't going to be shipped, I was going to drive it to its location, but that I needed it to be secure for the car. Nathanial answered all my questions will the simple, "Yup." After he told me the box would cost $75.00 to make and I paid him, he went to grab the sign by the very lights I had just explained to him were very delicate! "Well, what do you want? How should I carry it" he responded. I suggested he use the metal handle. Other customers in line behind me were equally appalled and rolled their eyes at the rude associate. Nathanial told me to come back in a few hours. When I returned at 2:00 PM, Nathanial pushed an enormous box in my direction. The box was easily two to three times larger than the item! I asked Nathanial why the box was so big--as I had asked and been told it was a custom made box. He responded that was the only box he had, and I'd already paid so take it or leave it. Nathanial's co-worker, seeing that I couldn't even carry the box, asked if he could help put it in my car. After 20 minutes of trying, the box was too huge to get even halfway into my car. Upon reentering the store, I asked Nathanial to just refund my money, to which he refused. I was therefore virtually forced to ship the item which cost an additional $126.40 plus $20.00 for the insurance. Somehow asking for a custom box to be made had cost me over $200.00-- aside from the fact that there was no need or want to ship the item! The box itself was barely taped together and when I asked if he could please just make sure the box was secure, I once again received a, "Yup." A call from the store manager a week and a half later was equally irritating as he "didn't know what I wanted to hear." Clearly, this store doesn't value its customers and it doesn't want your business. Now I'm just praying my package arrived in one piece... read more

Terrible terrible service. Every person - almost without exception (there are a FEW exceptions) -- in this UPS location is surly, rude and sloppy, and this has been true for years and years. The owner, Capt Michael Phillips - evidently creates a culture of horrendous service. Staff is, as a rule, ill-tempered, lazy and incredibly hostile. I have never been in another store that provides such bad service. I suggest the UPS stores on M St NW (downtown) or the 2 UPS stores on Conn Ave NW if you want to be helped, not annoyed and frustrated. A visit to this store can ruin your day. read more

I won't go back to this store. They charge you not only for boxes but also to "pack" the box, which entails them putting the item into the cardboard box -- $8 each! just for packing. Didn't let me know that this was a charge that they added on, either, until I looked at the receipt and then the guy all but yelled me out of the store for asking about it. Very unprofessional and, quite frankly, dishonest. I had "free" return shipping, but it turned out to be more expensive than the item in the first place. read more

Save yourself time, money, and anger and go across the street to the Post Office or go down the street to the Fed Ex store. Yeah, it'll take you longer. There might be a line. That's because people actually want to take their business to these other shipping services. I went in to have a box of books shipped but the supervisor took one look at my box and refused to ship it because I'd repurposed a box that had a "contains alcohol" stamp on it. I offered to cross it off, she said they won't accept it. I said what if I crossed it off then put my (already paid for) label over it? She said that won't work because she's already seen the box. Then I physically peeled the label off of the box and she -still- wouldn't accept it. Because at one point it had a label on it that said something about alcohol. So even though there was no longer that label and even though she saw my box was full of books, because she previously saw a label that used to be on the box at one point she wouldn't ship it. Seriously. I called corporate and lodged a complaint and the person I spoke to on the phone told me it was ridiculous and sent an 'urgent' message to the store owner. The owner of course never called me back even though I was sitting in the store with 30lbs of books that I couldn't carry home. I ended up spending $5.41 for a box I didn't need because they gave me no other option. My label was already paid for, I'd already walked the half mile over there and my weak girl arms were too shaky to carry the box home again. Basically, stay away. Don't do it. They discriminate against your boxes so they can rip you off. read more
