Called UPS to have an order rerouted from my house to a UPS Store, UPS offered the 611 Penn location. When I went to pick up the order, they told me that they had refused the order because they only accept packages for clients (people who pay to have mailboxes in the store). When I told them UPS said they were rerouting and that I had confirmation of delivery, they said they did not have the package, that they're a franchise and UPS can't tell them what to do, that it was absolutely sent back and that they do not accept packages. I called UPS and they confirmed that the package had been delivered to the store at 611 Penn. Getting nowhere, I called the sender, who said they had received delivery confirmation that my package was delivered to 611 Penn. They spoke to the UPS Store and were told by the same person (apparently the manager) that the package was refused. The sender agreed to resend me my order to a different UPS Store. A few minutes later, the sender called to say that an employee at the UPS Store found my package, that it wasn't refused, and that I could come pick it up. The sender informed me of this, but before I could leave for the UPS Store, the sender called back to say that the manager had called to say that they did indeed have the package but that they were going to send it back to the sender because they shouldn't have accepted it in the first place. The sender asked them to hold the package since I was on my way and the manager refused to hold the package until the sender threatened to call the owner of the store. Worst. Service. This particular franchisee has verified to me over the phone that they break from the policies of other franchisees and charge for things that are normally gratis, such as UPS labeled mailing envelopes. What is worse is that when I grabbed said envelope and asked for my cost to ship before handing in my credit card, the gentleman told me the cost without the envelope and, then, proceeded to attempt to charge me nearly $3 for the envelope on top of what he quoted me. I refused to pay and shipped for a much lower cost at USPS, across the street, who didn't charge extra for a priority mail envelope. While I can understand the need to charge more to cover higher rents in this location, I cannot tolerate bait and switch, IMHO, tactics. I have been so burnt by these guys in the past that I just called ahead to ensure they wouldn't try to charge me for a postage paid by addressee return item when I drop it off. Beware of this location. Paid a pretty penny to overnight an important document and it took 6 days to get to its location. Needless to say, due to the incompetence, a family member wasn't able to close a deal on their house in time. read more

My fiancé had an audition a few doors down and needed to get his resume and head shot printed. We walked in and asked "do you print pictures?" The man working behind the desk quickly said yes. We forwarded all the necessary documents and then he handed my fiancé his headshot on printer paper. Obviously shocked by this, we said very politely I thought this would be on photo paper. The man was very agitated and said they don't do that and reiterated we would have to pay for the printed picture. Why would you say yes you print pictures if all you do is print it on regular printer paper? I could have done that at home!! read more

I expect from UPS to be friendlier and more professional than USPS, and usually they are. Not in this store. Customers get treated with contempt, staff is chatting with each other at top volume, ignoring customers in the meantime. Not happy with this one. read more

The worst service I've ever experienced. Both ladies working were extremely rude. I came to buy a box to ship some things they said I couldn't put my things in the box inside the building so I went outside on the street to pack my things up... I asked if I could use some tape and the lady just huffed and pointed to the rack of tape to be bought . so I bought a whole roll of tape for one box. I saw those ladies yell at other customers during the rest of my visit. Those ladies need to take a customer service 101. something is seriously wrong with the way that place is managed. read more

I went here on a Saturday to get some document notarized. The guy tells me that she is only there M-F 10am-4pm. Fair enough, I didn't call ahead and she certainly deserves weekends off. Come back Monday at 11am, just to give them plenty of leeway. Come to find out that while the notary is physically present, she doesn't have any of her tools and cannot notarize anything that day. Even though the same man in the store told me not two days ago that she would be available. I asked if she would be available at any point that week. The notary gave me a lot of attitude, stating that she serviced three stores, as though I should be more understanding of her schedule. I was merely going off of the information I had been given, and was understandably frustrated when this was not even remotely correct. I was then told she would only be able to help me on Wednesday from 2-4pm. Convenient. What is the point of advertising notary services if the notary is actually only available for 2 hours, one day a week? Also, she somehow managed to make it into the store herself that day. Really couldn't bring carry that small stamp with you? I will not be going back. read more

An extra star just because the owner wrote me back. I had to print one page, not fancy, and the cost to email it to them and print it was over $4. For one copy. At FedEx on K street I printed two pages for less than $2. They charge over $3 as a 'media fee' -- that is, to email them a document. I thought for sure that was a mistake, so I emailed the store, but no, they charge for this overhead-heavy technology called email. read more

Unfortunately, I forgot to ask the names of the lady and gentleman working at UPS, so I can't give precise credit. Regardless, I had an excellent experience this past Saturday. I had to ship two big bags (think the big Ikea bags) of stuff to a relative overseas. I looked up some information before going, however, it wasn't clear on the website. The lady at the store was super helpful. Although the UPS store couldn't help me with the actual shipping of the stuff, they did help me pack everything into one box - I'm still amazed the lady was able to fit it all into one box. And the gentleman helped carry the now huge and heavy box out to my car. Excellent customer service. read more

This store (UPS Store at 611 Pennsylvania Ave SE) has poor customer service and terrible policies. On July 28, I attempted to ship one bag's worth of non-breakable items from the Capitol Hill UPS store. When I attempted to purchase a box in the store for the items, I was told by the clerk that it was the policy of the owner (who also owns a couple of other UPS stores in DC, including the Georgetown store) that customers could not pack boxes in store unless they paid the store a "packing fee" to do it for them. She further informed me that I would need to buy the box and the take it outside to the street to pack then come back inside the store to send it. Keep in mind, I was the only customer in the store and only needed to drop a butch of items into a box purchased at the store. Needless to say I took my business elsewhere. Luckily, there is both a Post Office and a Fed Ex Office store within a block of this location. At the Fed Ex store, the clerk not only helped pick out the smallest appropriate box but he authomatically helped me tape up my box (without a "packing fee"). The Fedex store is also neat and well organized (in contrast to the UPS store). Shipping via Fedex ground also ended up being cheaper than the price quoted me by UPS for the equivalent speed of service. read more

The staff here is friendly, helpful and efficient. They have a notary public on staff (just call to make sure she is working on that day,) and it's super cheap. Downside is that the store itself is small, so it can feel crowded after only three customers inside. And the boxes and packaging equipment are ridiculously expensive. Instead of paying $9 for a standard packing box at UPS, take a 7-minute drive to U-Haul. That same box cost me $1.45 there. read more

The service here is wonderful! They helped me mail an eBay shipment after closing hours with no complaint. Another time, they saw me struggling with my bike trailer while trying to drop off a package and came outside to get it for me. They are much friendlier and mor helpful than the FedEx. read more

I was so impressed with the service I received here yesterday, especially considering how busy the store was when I went there. The person who worked with me happened to be the General Manager, Dana Gill. Dana was extremely professional, helpful, and patient - and went WAY beyond the call of duty. She was concerned that my parcel was not packed securely enough (and took the time to explain UPS policy concerning claims for damaged parcels) so she opened it, repacked it (with styrofoam peanuts), and resealed it securely - without charging me a penny for her time or materials. Furthermore, when the postage for one of my parcels turned out to be inappropriately high (because of the shape of the contained, a tube) she recommended a cheaper way to pack/send it. This was my first time sending something via the UPS store. My flimsy box wasn't taped nor was it addressed and still had old labels. Dana said don't worry, I got you. She did EVERYTHING for me and even chastised me when I tried to help her seal the box. She gave me the best rate and on a Friday when everyone is tired, it's refreshing just to have a pleasant customer service experience. read more

When we dropped off a prepaid package this morning, the staffer said the computer was down and he couldn't give a receipt.. Half an hour later, at 12:20 today, a different very arrogant male staffer refused to give a receipt or tracking number, said I could complain to his manager, put me on hold to look up the manager's email address, and hung up. This place had a tape gun lying on a counter. I used it to tape my package and was told that I had to buy the entire tape gun because it was now "used". The price for the tape gun was $18! When I refused to pay that exorbitant price for one piece of tape, the manager called the police on me! The police actually agreed with me that I shouldn't have to buy the entire tape gun. She actually argued with the cops. I had to pick up my child from school, so I paid just to get out of there. This is literally the worst customer service I've experienced in 20 years of living in DC. This store can't close down fast enough. read more

I've been a box holder at this location for over a decade and wish there was competition I could take my business to. I cannot count how many times over the last 10-15 years they have misplaced packages, told me I didn't have any when I did, or have just been plain rude and incompetent. I went there today and was told I only had two packages repeatedly. I left, went home, check my amazon account and of course, have at least two other packages there somewhere. The only thing this UPS Store has going for it is the high theft of packages from people's door fronts and the lack of competition. read more

Issue with the delivery of my package so they give a phone number for UPS customer service and after calling that number I call the store back with the solution, they proceed to tell me they are independently owned and operated and have their own policies. Why even have me call that number? and why call yourself the UPS store if you are claiming to be a 3rd party? Total Bullshit, AVOID THIS STORE AT ALL COSTS!! Not worth the headache. read more

I've visited this store several times for different needs--mailing, notary services, and photocopying. While I am not a fan of negtive reviews, I believe such a review is reasonable in light of the gross underperformance of this ups franchise. During my visits, they have refused to accept a return with a proper ups code and form, told me they didn't know how to work the copy so I should just play with it (while being charged per copy), and inadequately signed and seal notarized forms (the bank across the street was kind enough to remedy their mistake). And worse, the owner is most disagreeable. The line at the usps have never looked better after a visit to this store. read more

I read the unfavorable ratings but had little choice, since I needed to mail some personal effects to a friend who had moved away. The articles were heavy and of different sizes, so I needed help packing. I walked in on a rainy Saturday morning and a young man named Jeron was working there. He could not have been nicer. He handled my difficult request with courtesy and professionalism, was helpful to other customers, and managed to hold it all together when things suddenly bus. I don't usually post reviews for this sort of business but was so pleasantly surprised by my trip to UPS last week. I had a stroller and one of the folks saw me coming and opened the door. Then she saw the package in the stroller and asked if she could take it for me. It was ready to ship in less than a minute and she asked if there was anything else she could do. As she was assisting me once again with the door another customer walked in and asked if they had a notary. Once of the guys came over and said he was at her service. So not what I was expecting at a UPS store. read more

The staff at this UPS store is wonderful. They are always friendly and helpful and professional. I come here several times a week as a MyChoice user and its always a pleasure. When my hands are full they will even help carry the packages to my car. After one too many packages had been stolen off our front porch, we decided to get a mail box at this location so our packages could be shipped safely to a store. We have been to this location well over a dozen times and each time we have had a good experience. The staff is very helpful and patient, including when we had to ship several packages over the holidays. We will continue to use this location. read more

I'm in their frequently to pick up UPS MyChoice packages and the staff is always helpful and quick. It does get busy sometimes, but I think they try to get through the line as quick as they can. As usual - if you're nice to staff they will be nice to you, and vice-versa. read more

The customer service at this UPS Store is just not up to par with others I've patronized. On 02/08/2014, I had went to #2092 to get some copies made and shipped off to a relative in Georgia. Now to start off, I was waited at least 5 minutes just to be asked if I needed any help. That should have been my first sign. I was able to get the copies with relative ease but the trouble came when I attempted to have them shipped along with other documents. I informed the clerk I wanted to send the documents via Ground. She told me I could only send documents via Next Day Air or 2nd Day Air. After that, I payed for my copies, I called UPS's 1-800 number who confirmed that I could indeed send documents via ground. I then called The UPS Store customer service number who helped me file a formal complaint. I then went back to the store and told the clerk of my findings and her response was only, "That's how I was trained". Not once did the clerk conceded she was in the wrong or make an attempt to rectify the situation. I then went across the street to the post office and got what I needed done for less than $6. I wish I had read these awful reviews before I even wasted my time. If your on the hill and need shipping services, I would just avoid The UPS Store and go straight to the post office or FedEx Office. read more
