I still come to this location whenever I'm in the neighborhood. It moved a while back which the old location wasn't too far from where it is now. Only different really is the parking situation. There's still parking to the side which they have a few spots reserved but the rest would be either metered parking or street parking. Old location was part of a little strip mall with plenty of parking. Regardless, this store still has everything that I need for my baby. They have the food that we like to get as some other chain doesn't carry them. The staffs are always so welcoming and very friendly. There's plenty of things that they carry. It's a small store but pretty much packed with everything you need. Loads of brands that they carry. There toys, treat, apparel, and so much more. Since their local branch (on La Brea / Santa Monica) recently closed, I now happily travel the extra distance to this location on Beverly - primarily because they seem to be the only provider of one of my favorite wet cat food brands, Fussie Cat, in single cans (unlike the bulk options by online suppliers). Plus, I was pleasantly surprised to find that some of the staff from the old store are now at this location, in particular the fabulous Taylor who is an absolute gem - great people skills, professional and very kind. Apart from food supplies, I like the fact that Urban Pet stocks a huge selection of high-quality accessories - toys, collars, scratchers, etc - that are not common anywhere else. This is a wonderful store, in business for eighteen years (meaning, they know what they're doing) with free off-street parking adjacent (right-hand side), and a wonderful loyalty scheme. The Urban Pet is hands down the best place in town for high-quality pet supplies. I've been to all the big box stores and smaller boutiques, but nothing compares to the selection here. Their inventory is clearly curated with care--whether you are looking for premium raw food options, durable toys, or unique accessories, everything they stock is a step above what you find elsewhere. I really appreciate knowing that whatever I buy here is going to be safe and healthy for my pet. The vibe of the store is also great; it's clean, modern, and really pleasant to shop in. The only small area for improvement would be the customer service. The staff is knowledgeable, but a little more warmth and friendliness would go a long way in matching the welcoming atmosphere of the store itself. This location is great since there's a few parking spots next to the building that are saved for The Urban Pet and the selection of chews and treats are plentiful. This review is based on their toy selection for dogs. It's the worst! Squint and you'll think you're at Petco. Rope toys and balls and Kong type stuff is about all they have. I wish there were some sophisticated, neutral colored plush toys. I don't know why I come in here year after year... always to leave empty handed. Maybe the dog food is good here. Ellen helped us and she was absolutely wonderful. The owner was there too and his three dogs! Customer service here is top notch! This is a neighborhood pet shop and not a corporate shop and I really, really like that! It's not a huge store but it is well curated. They have other locations in Los Angeles as well. I came here to Urban Pet because of the dog training classes. I have a little puppy and like many pet parents a little help with training and understanding the dog goes a long way. Rollin is the trainer there and I e-mailed him a lot, asked him a lot of questions-some of them redundant because the website lays things out pretty well. Nonetheless, he took the time to respond and because of that it helped make my decision to go with Urban Pet over some other places. Rollin was there Saturday first thing and I remember class started a little late. Why? Someone apparently dropped off a litter of hamsters and he took the time to make sure they were taken care of and a staff member was there to look after them. They don't sell hamsters or supplies for hamsters but he went out of his way to make sure they were cared for. Rollin applies that same level of care and attention to his students, and by students I mean us. More and more I realized it was less about teaching my new puppy commands but on trying to get us to understand dog motivation and teaching us patience. Moreover, if you go ahead and buy the 5 pack of classes you're also given membership to the pet shop where you get 10% off purchases. read more

I drove two hours from San Diego, CA on Christmas Eve to visit me in LA and we came across this place at random. I've never been to a pet store quite like this, it has a wide range of amazing brands, toys and treats for cats that you can't find at Pet Smart or Petco. As a cat dad that loves spoiling his best buddy, really had to fight the urge to grab every toy and treat bag on sight. The Koi fountain adds a really nice touch! So relaxing. Also wanted to give a shout out to Hudson, who greeted us when we came in. I've been going here since I moved into the neighborhood over a year ago and everyone that has helped me was informative and caring. I usually take a walk there with my dog Jax and they always offer treats when we arrive. They have a large selection for dog and cat food. I just recently started buying wet food for our cat but got kibble today. The nice woman that helped us let us know if our pets do not like the kibble and it's more than half of the bag full, you can exchange it for something different. This is the best pet store in LA. The staff is incredibly helpful and nice. My dog has some issues with food so we've tried many brands and have been to nearly all the other pet stores in the area (Healthy Spot, Pet Express, Centinela, etc.) to buy various brands of food. The staff at these other pet stores has been fine but the Urban Pet staff is far far better! I also like that they carefully curate the brands they sell. I haven't had any issues with my dog not liking anything. I find pricing to be about the same (and sometimes better, sometimes worse; it depends on the item) than the other pet stores. They do offer a membership that is $20 for a year and you receive 5% off all (or nearly all) your purchases. They also have a few special weekends per year where members receive 10% off. I have been to a couple other Urban Pet locations but this one is my favorite in terms of product selection and staff. read more

This continues to be our favorite pet store. The prices are fair (for most items-- it's hard for a store to keep up with the way Amazon / big-box prices are constantly fluctuating and changing; that said, I've also found multiple things at par if not cheaper). The staff is INCREDIBLY kind and helpful, and everybody truly loves their animals. They also have a great membership program which will get you discounts across the store. There's a parking lot too! I don't believe that the reviews saying that the staff is unhelpful could have been made in good faith-- I've come in here so many times, interacting with so many different people, across the period of over a year (as I live just minutes away). Everybody's always been so kind to me, educational, open minded, and helpful. I'm a newer pet owner and I've never been made to feel silly for asking basic questions. In my opinion, everything was overpriced, but they did have an incredible selection of quality foods as well as toys (even organic cotton ones). We took our dog there to get a free Christmas photo, and were not disappointed. The set up was great, the staff friendly, and they gave my dog a sample of a freeze-dried raw food that is her favorite! I'm a frequent shopper at the Urban Pet in Silver Lake, but the Beverly location seems to be the main hub. I've been for obedience class and a Halloween carnival - it's kind of a gathering place for the dogs of L.A. The store is awesome, big and welcoming with an extensive, well curated selection of food, toys, and other supplies. The goods are on the expensive side, but not outrageously so. I do almost all my basset shopping in the Silver Lake store. One purchase I sort of regret is the package of dog training classes, and that only because I'm lazy but will have to use them eventually. (It's basically the same result as buying a pass for an exercise class - I'm just going to waste money and feel bad so why did I even bother?) I went to one class when I was unemployed and driving to Beverly at 7 on a Wednesday seemed reasonable. A year later and Duke is still dumb but so sweet and gentle that I can't get too worked up about his occasional stubbornness. The class was led by Zack, who I later learned is the owner of Urban Pet. Let me be clear - the class was great. It was a group class but the group was kept small and each dog got plenty of individual attention. Zack was an excellent teacher and I learned how to get my dog to sit and lie down in that first class. I have four classes left, I think. I guess I should use them. We did go back, at least, for the Halloween Carnival, with Duke's friends Wesley and The Stig. It was a blast. Admission was free, and there were tons of booths offering food samples, and even a couple carnival games where the dogs won little toys. There was a costume contest in which The Stig entered as Sharknado - it was amazing. We managed to forget Duke's costume at home (oh my the theme of this review is that we are terrible parents) but we enjoyed seeing all the other dressed up dogs. There was staged entertainment as well, part of which involved a choreographed dance number featuring Zack in zombie drag. This Urban Pet is too far for us to visit for our regular needs, but we will keep coming in to touch base with the dog community. Maybe we'll use up the rest of those classes too. Zack knows what he's doing, and the basset can always use more education. read more

I'd say that the store is 70% dog, 20% cat, 10% bird, 10% fish and 10% other (hamsters?). I bought Maddy a bully stick to gnaw on whilst I sit outside at the coffee shop. Come to find out a bully stick is a dried up cow penis. Well, it's the only penis Maddy gets. I also got her a cool doggie water bottle and some dried up chicken treats. She likes it all, especially the penis. They have a lounge area to just sit down and relax next to a waterfall. What a great place to sit and chill out after a long walk with the pup.
