Just a heads up for anyone that is considering this place for boarding, I go to the gym across the street daily and always hear dogs barking non stop in their crates. It's like this every day. I attached a couple videos from different days. The videos are from the alley directly behind sunset barquis. Personally I wouldn't leave my dog in a place that allows dogs to just sit in their cages and bark at each other. They're all prob just freaking each other out. Just a heads up! This is the best doggy daycare in the entire world!!!! This is the only place I can put my dog down without a leash and he runs directly to their door barking for them to hurry up and let him in to see all of his friends!! He is so excited to go and loves to greet all of the girls working there every morning! They are sooooo nice to my fur baby!!!! I am just so lucky that I found them! If you are considering it, DO IT! You won't regret it. They feed my baby breakfast lunch and dinner, walk him and make sure he drinks water. They post Instagram stories throughout the day and send me an email "pupdate" every afternoon that I can't wait to read!!! They also do a photo shoot for certain holidays and even did a birthday post last year for sausage! I have a dachshund and when he hurt his back (not at daycare) and had to be sedated and wasn't allowed to play they put him in an enclosed area covered in blankets and would go in to give him pets. When he couldn't find the water bowl at first, they had him on a watering schedule!!!! I mean this place is unreal. We also let sausage spend the night when we go on vacation and he gets to sleep IN BED with one of the girls because that's what he's used to at home. No crates (unless they want one)!!! Samantha sends the SWEETEST pupdates with the cutest videos of him getting good boy pets and almost every time I come pick him up he is sitting on Zoe's lap! This review is a little overdue. I've had my dog now for about 7 months. I worried about leaving him alone when I was at work. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to stay home very long when I got him so this was a big worry. One of my colleagues mentioned she takes her pup Sgt.Pepper_the Shorkie to this spot. After getting all his vaccines and neutering in order he was all set. My 17 lbs mixed cutie Cha.cha.Charlie.fox_ goes to daycare 2x/week to break up his week - Keep him entertained, exercised, and socialized. This is our favorite daycare spot in LA. They take very good care of our dog Mango, post photos to Instagram, even take the doggos on walks. All of the dogs that go there are also friendly and clean. I will say that sunset Barquis is a small business so just don't expect the extended hours that you would find at a larger corporation like citydog. The only reason we ever take mango to citydog over sunset Barquis is when there is a strong need for the extended hours availability for a particular instance. For the most part though, we try our hardest to take mangie to sunset Barquis because it's a far better experience, and we can tell mango is wayyyy happier when she's there. read more

I have a beagle mix who weighs in at about 30 pounds. She's only 1.5 years old so she still has a ton of puppy energy. She did 2 days of doggie daycare here but it didn't work out long term because she's a little too big and has too much energy for the rest of the smaller doggos. Even though my dog didn't fit the bill, I still feel that I should still write them a stellar review for the following reasons: 1. Honest and genuinely caring owner. Great guy who spends all day long engaging with the dogs and taking adorable pictures of them all throughout the day 2. Fair prices, the best I've found in the area 3. Open playroom where they're always together and never alone. My dog hates being alone. Some places will throw your dog in a room by themselves all day and call that "doggie daycare". This place believes in the pack mentality where they do everything together Anyway, would highly recommend this place to anyone with a smaller, more chill dog. read more

I've been to a lot of daycares in the area, so I feel that I'm qualified to say that this is one of the best doggy daycares. I have a 10 month old pug named Kevin, so you can only imagine the amount of energy he has, and Kevin always comes home exhausted because he has so much fun playing all day. The employees also hangout in the same area as the pup and give them lots of love and attention. It's a large space, which is nice so the dogs aren't confined in a small area for long periods of time. Above all, I love being able to see my little guy on their Instagram which they post on throughout the day - he always looks like a happy camper. Best daycare in LA! The only place I will ever take my Pomeranian. He LOVES coming here everyday because there's a ton of open space to run free, play on the bridges, listen to music, and associates who play fetch with him! They even take every dog for a walk outside during the day! I love watching the Instagram videos to see how much fun he's having while I'm at work. I was scared to bring my new dog to any daycare after my last dog was killed while at a Rover sitter's house. Now I don't worry for my new dog's safety because I found sunset barquis! STAY AWAY!! I dropped off both of my Pomeranians here for the weekend when I was going out of town, and it was the worse mistake I've ever made. When I picked up my dogs, romi (3yr) was fine, but foxy(10) was noticeably sick. She had lost about a third of her weight, her eyes were glossed, she could hardly walk and wouldn't eat anything. Soon after, she collapsed and started throwing up. When I took her to the vet, they realized she had an advanced case of diabetes and ketones in her blood. This of course is not the issue of Sunset Barquis- however in the total of four days she stayed: no one informed me she hadn't been eating or that her condition had been seriously declining (as I would've rushed home to get her). Even when I picked her up, no one mentioned anything peculiar at all about her OBVIOUSLY weakened state. She was literally near death and severely dehydrated and no one bothered to tell me. I seriously doubt any of the staff here noticed, or even worse if they did, they just simply did not care about her well being. Be warned- if anything happens to your dog in their care, you will probably never find out and your dog is most surely in terrible care. I just hope what happened to me never happens to you. read more

BOTTOM LINE: Even though my puppy got sick twice due to their mistakes and they're the one who suggested that I should find another daycare option, they will NOT issue a refund on unused days from my prepaid package, so all dog parents should consider this before making the commitment. UPDATED REVIEW: First of all, I never requested any updates at the expense of my puppy's well being. Also I never asked for the employee's schedule either. I only inquired the new owners' availability since, after the repeated mistakes, I no longer felt comfortable leaving my puppy at this daycare without the owners' direct supervision. The first feeding mistake was done by the same employee as well. When I picked up Izzy at the end of the day, she specifically told me that she "had just given Izzy something chewy." Izzy got sick and threw up when we came home. I never attacked this employee nor even directly discussed this issue with her. I tried to resolve it by bringing this to the owners' attention, yet they suggested that we should just find another daycare. I understand that mistakes can happen at the daycare. For example, my puppy initially came home with a nip from another dog when she first started going to this daycare. This bite was confirmed by the vet as well. However, the previous owner was able to address this maturely and professionally, and we continued our visit. He didn't purposely avoid or delay communication either, after the incident. Instead of addressing the actual issue and properly supervising the employees, the new owners are now trying to redirect this problem by accusing me that I have some other issues with one of their employees because they do not want to issue the refund for the unused/prepaid visits. Please note that I didn't even ask for a refund for the days when Izzy got sick. My main problem with this daycare is the management, as stated in my initial review, not the employees. Although the owners continue to claim that they love my puppy, they're not trying to take necessary steps to ensure her health and well being while she stays at their daycare. So I think it's obvious why we don't feel welcomed there. INITIAL REVIEW (03-28-19): This place used to be good, when it was run by the original owner. Now, with two new owners, it is a very different place. The new owners used to work for the original owner, and they surely love dogs. What they lack, however, are management skills and experience in client services. They don't seem to know how to properly screen and train their employees. The employees care more about uploading photos/videos to Instagram than paying attention to individual dogs' needs. One of their employees made my puppy sick TWICE. Initially she fed my dog what I specifically asked them not to. Please note that my puppy had been a regular visitor for a while and my request wasn't just verbal. The written instructions were included in my puppy's bag, which the owners were well aware of. My puppy threw up immediately after we came home. Of course, things can happen at the daycare. I discussed this with the owners and they said they would address it. So the second incident could've been prevented, if they had properly supervised their employee or the employee simply followed the instructions. Recently I dropped off my puppy early in the afternoon. The employee in question checked her in. I asked this employee to refer to my written instructions, especially for feeding. The employee even acknowledged, "Yes, I am familiar." Then later I found out that my puppy was overfed. My puppy had two full meals and the extra snack within a few hours. Overfeeding can lead to severe condition in dogs. When we came home, my puppy didn't feel well and threw up again. What's more problematic is how they handled the situation afterwards. I wanted to know what caused my puppy to vomit, but it took a long time for them to respond when I inquired about the second incident. Overall it took several days and multiple texts/calls for them to acknowledge that their employee made a mistake yet again. Instead of trying to train their employees more properly, however, they suggested that I should find another daycare option if I cannot trust them. The owners may mean it when they say they do care about my dog. However, their way of managing this place with poorly trained employees poses a serious health risk to my puppy so I don't think that's a healthy way of loving dogs. Per their suggestion, my puppy and I have decided to find another daycare option; so we requested a refund for the remaining/unused prepaid visits. Again it took a few days and several text messages for them to get back to me. They're now saying that they don't issue refunds on packages and my puppy's package never expires. This is not an acceptable/responsible way to run a business. It also reminded me that people show their true colors in times of conflict. read more

This is my favorite doggy daycare for my Mini Aussie. They know who I am and who I'm dropping off/picking up. They share Instagram stories all day for me to check in on my pup and most importantly I feel like they actually care and enjoy being around all of the dogs all day versus other places where they just watch them and make sure nothing goes wrong. They even have a pullout couch for overnights which I know my pup enjoys way more than being crammed in a room on a mat. My only criticisms are that they're not open later or on Sundays and my pup smells when I pick him up from all the playing. read more

What an amazing place for both owners and dogs! It's hard to make a choice when leaving your best friend in the care of others but this IS the place. I have a little terrier mix named Ramona and this was my first time leaving her for a 2 week trip. I checked out other places for comparison and this was the obvious choice. I have since used Sunset Barquis 3 or 4 times for both long and short stays and they never disappoint. The facility is big and clean. There are plenty of friends for your dog to have a great day or a long stay. There is constant human supervision and you can rest easy that your pet is in great hands. Two walks a day! Most places barely offered a real walk and usually charges extra for them. Sunset Barquis walks your dog as part of the package and this is a huge bonus. My dog loves the outdoors and getting out is important for everyone. Keep an eye on your friend. Sunset Barquis post so many videos and photos of your buddy on their social media that you can see how much fun they are having at any given time. It's great to see when your pet becomes part of "the band". Everyone who knows Ramona was following her "tour" on their multiple daily posts. She has a blast every time. Special care and attention is part of the deal. The staff at Sunset Barquis are very accommodating to the owners and some of our special requests. They were so sweet to follow my feeding routine and treat management for my dog. It's important for a pet who is away from home to keep a similar routine. Ramona loves this place and so do I. When we drive up, she knows exactly where she's going and she can't wait to get in. When I pick her up, she is happy to see me but I'm sure she misses her friends at Sunset Barquis. I had a nightmare experience at Sunset Barquis. I had my dog boarded here while I was gone for a few days over the holiday. When I walked in to pick him up, I noticed that he had some sort of thick collar on and hear this constant buzzing sound going off. It was a bark collar!!! My dog wasn't barking but the dozen or so other little dogs in there were barking, which was making the bark collar go off like crazy. I demanded that the girl take it off immediately. She didn't know why it was on him, but said he had it on when she arrived so she assumed it was his and left it on him. She couldn't find all of the items that I had brought there, but I was so frustrated and could tell that my dog was under deep distress, so I left. It took a few weeks for his behavior to return back to normal after that traumatic experience. Later after returning home, I noticed he had developed a cough. Worried that something might have happened to his throat from the bark collar torture, we made a trip to the vet. He had contracted Kennel cough while he was there! Being a single working mother to my furry babies, I need help every now and then and Sunset Barquis is the sweetest new spot that will give them a fun place to play and hang out during the day and even some overnight stays should I need to go out of town. I love Sunset Barquis. Unlike most other doggy daycare facilities, they have really fair prices. When I buy a monthly package, it includes the daycare, a daily walk outside, a monthly bath, AND...they will bring my pup home at the end of the day. That last one saves me 1/2 hour off my nightly commute and has been a godsend. The staff are all extremely friendly, attentive, and take great care of my dog. She comes home excited but exhausted, so mission accomplished each day. I love knowing that she gets outside every day, whereas most daycares will charge too much for a walk. This is my first ever Yelp review, and it couldn't be for a better place. My dog Bella has had mixed results at other day cares, but she instantly fell in love with this place. The size of the play area, staff, dogs, and the whole environment is A plus. Dean and all the staff infuse the place with lots of love and play. You can tell they enjoy what they do, and look after the dogs as if they were their own. Bella literally pulls me to the front door every time I take her and is so excited to come see her friends. I'll be moving into a new home soon, and while it's an exciting time for our family, I"m gutted that I'll be moving away from Sunset Barquis. I'll have to make it a point to bring Bella back from time to time to visit her friends. I can't recommend this place enough. If you have a small dog take them to Sunset Barquis, they will have a blast and be loved!! read more
