Ok, this time, my experience was way better. Maybe because the line was short or because security was quick with getting people through or because the artist is one of my favorites. Either way, it was a great time. The drinks were nice and strong , I don't know my bartender's name but he was great! He was funny and cool and fun to chat with. The venue was clean and filled up by the time the show started and I had a great spot in the space. The staff was helpful in the venue and made sure everything went off without a hitch.

I love this venue. I have seen a number of shows here like Johnnyswim, Damien Marley and Long Beach Dub Allstars. The building itself was built in 1929 for the Phoenix Motor Company. It was refurnished and opened as a concert venue in 2017. The Van Buren holds just under 2,000 people and is standing room only unless you have VIP seating. It is owned by Live Nation Entertainment. I personally like standing room only venues and the intimacy that the Van Buren brings to their concerts. There is a bar in the lobby and an open patio area out front. There are a few parking garages a couple blocks away or you can pay at a meter. I have yet to see a bad show here and think this is one of the best places to see a show here in the Valley.

I went for the Lauren Spencer smith concert on the 13th. I called the venue to make sure we were lined up for 3 hours before the doors opened, we were the first people there and they told us it sounded right lol. We then were told rudely by other fans that "if we had been there before we would have known" mind you we aren't from here lol. We had an extra VIP ticket and wanting to give it out for free but the lady was rude asf saying she's not gonna be here all night to give the ticket away lol. We were trying to help a fan who had GA get VIP for FREE. The building was really nice but there was a lot of homeless people walking by. There was no clear signage stating the entrance was around the corner, which I found disappointing. Let alone the fact that there was 2 workers looking at us through the window and didn't tell us or the fact that we called and asked lol. The concert though was amazing lol but the venue could do better.

The Van Buren is one of my favorite concert venues in the Valley! It's the perfect size and they get a lot of artists that I like. The sound, visual, and light aspects are all great. It's not located in the best part of town but I am able to find free street parking a short walk away. There usually is a short line to check in.

    Hinder concert ..
    Lourdes V.

We attended the Hinder - Back to Life tour here, it was my first time at this venue. The venue is great, it's beautiful on the inside in an old world kind of way. The sound was good, drink options were plentiful. My friend needed a chair in the ADA area which we located right away, by the bar area way in back. What's not great is you can't sit or stand in the area with your friend who needs the ADA accommodations. It's like they put them in time out and the ushers (only doing their job) are constantly reminding you to stand outside the roped off area, even if you're just talking between bands. It's definitely a cool venue but the ADA seating area would definitely deter us from returning. They do recommend you call in advance to save a spot in the ADA area but they accommodate walk-ins also.

Awesome smaller venue, fun to have the bars and restrooms so close so you never miss anything. Service was nice and fast. No food but the pizza place ACROSS the street is an awesome slice to grab before heading in. We're keeping an eye out for shows so we can come back soon!

Pixies take the stage in T-minus 2 hours and counting!

Saw the Pixies for the umpteenth time last month. I've been listening to them since the late 80's and they are my most favorite of all time. The Van Buren is such a great venue. Such a great show!

I've been to this venue numerous times for many shows. The atmosphere is elevated with the chandeliers, but remains relaxed with exposed brick and wood. The acoustics are always great which makes the shows enjoyable and there's plenty of room for the shows, but a small enough venue to feel intimate. I've never tried food here, although I see they serve some outside. The bar tender service is always fast and friendly.

    Kemlyn B.

Love this intimate concert venue. I have seen the Hu and Mariana's Trench. You can get close to the artists. The bar is generous with their pours of alcohol but if you don't know exactly what you want, they will give you weak lemonade with mostly vodka. You also pay concert venue prices. It is recommended that you call ahead for ADA accommodations if you have mobility challenges and cannot stand on the floor. Know that it is at the back, high top chairs so you are elevated, it is only for you and not your plus one. Sit by the rope cordons so you can vibe with your party on the other side. Sometimes, they will release seats that are not being used, but that is one hour before the concert ends.

Ask the Community - The Van Buren

    Is this 18+?

It's 21+ for certain nights. Depends upon the event. Non-club nights: Ages 13-20 must be accompanied by parent/legal guardian. Ages 12 and under are not admitted.

What are the drinks like here?

The bar staff are pros. What's your question ?

Can someone share what the mezzanine is like? The floor obviously is totally open but if you get…

Is there still "covid" requirements to meet for admission? (ex-vac card/neg test) or has these requirements been lifted?

Requirements and venue protocols, such as testing and vaccination, are subject to change on a show-by-show basis. Be sure to check your event date for the latest information.

Hi! I was wondering if there is an age limit? Like 18+ or 21+?

This can vary depending on the artist-- I've been to 21+ shows here, so check the website to make sure for specific things!

Hello! I was wondering what the dress code would be? Thanks!

I would say if you can fit into it and walk out the door they'll let you in. I've seen all different outfits including ones I wish I could unsee :) If you're going to dance wear something you look cute and comfy in and go have fun!

What is the seating situation for comedy shows here? Specifically Daniel Sloss. Is it first come first serve?

Hi Brooke, our seating options can vary by show. For the Daniel Sloss show, it will be general admission seating, meaning choice of seats will be first come, first served.

Are there tables to sit at if you want to order food?

Yes and on the outside patio too

Are point and shoot cameras allowed in at The Van Buren?

Hi John! Yes, point and shoot cameras are allowed for most shows at The Van Buren. This type of camera may occasionally be restricted upon request by the artist. Cameras with detachable lenses are not allowed.

Does anyone know if the van buren has any gender neutral restrooms? im going to a show there in a month and kinda need to know

Men and women was all I saw when I went. I'd give them a call or email to know for sure.

I'm visiting from out of town. I've read different things about this venue in terms of seating. I believe the main floor is general admission (no seats; standing room only) and the mezzanine has seating if you pay an extra fee on top of your ticket?

Yes. Upstairs, you can get seats and a server comes by. Call the Van Buren and ask for Sarah who handles upstairs seating etc

Where do you start to line up for a concert here? We want to be one of the first in and willing to show up and wait outside but where do you line up? Along the sidewalk? Seems like there are several entrances to this venue

if i remember correctly you line up to get in on the side of the building with the parking lot, and enter through the patio gates

    Where do yo park?

Street parking with meters or private pay lots.

Does anyone know if it's worth it to buy early admission (GA Tickets) packages for a concert? Thanks!

Depends on how risky you want to be. I've waited before and GA sold out so I had to buy balcony. Balcony is great but all my friends were in GA.

I have mezzanine tickets for the Mutemath show. I've read in the reviews that you have to pay extra for bar stools even though we've already paid extra for the mezzanine tickets. Is this true?

I doubt it. The barstools are probably first come first serve and possibly allow people to pay to reserve them?? I always like to be in GA but I will ask my friend who works there and let you know.

Hello, we recently went to a great show at the Van Buren! We just had one little question about why the seating for the mezzanine was all roped off? It seems advertised/owner's response question above ("There are seats available)" like they are free?

They have two ticket prices. GA and Mezz. The mezzanine tickets are more expensive and limited because it's a great view with tables and seating. Where GA is standing room only basically.

Is it better to get balcony or floor tickets?

Floor seats definitely get you closer but the balcony has tables you can sit out and less crowded. So it's a personal preference :)

I had seen two girls before me go in with super baggy pants and no one asked them to empty their clearly full pockets. The bar is cute but clearly needing some updating. I had been here last year for Satsang and in the short time between it has seemed to deteriorate. The bartenders are overwhelmed and the only ones working are the men. My husband told me he tried several times to get the attention of one of the ladies and she turned her back to him. Also an experience I had with the ladies last time I was here. There was an incident where a girl slipped on water that was puddled on the floor and fell face first, knocking herself unconscious for a couple of minutes during the set for post crucifixion, and only my husband and I helped her, despite there being security there. I even tried once more to get the attention of a gal behind the bar with short black hair to get a towel to pick up the spill and she would not even turn to face me. I cleaned the spill myself by reaching over the bar and grabbing napkins, since the employees didn't seem to care. That will be the last time I attend this venue. I don't believe they care about their patrons and the staff is pretty rude.

Last time we were there was to see one of our favorites, Black Pistol Fire, this past spring. We love that band and have seen them perform many times, we were happy they played at crescent. They have such great energy during shows and the lead singer always gets into the crowd, last time he went over to the back bar and played guitar on it. Was pretty awesome! This recent time we went to see rapper Intuition from LA. He was opening for Wax & Dj Hoppa. They were new to me, but it was a great hip hop show. Generally the sound is good in the venue and they have a bar up front with some seating. Behind the curtain where the stage is, there's a bar back too. There are also bleachers but I usually don't sit on them, but they are there if needed. Cocktails are like regular bar prices, and good thing, they are quality drinks. I had the whiskey sour and old fashioned. Both were very good with quality spirits. At $16, they should be good and not some afterthought cocktail. They also have beers on tap for like $8. I'll definitely be back for another show at some point. Until then, cheers!

If you're sitting more than halfway back you'll be disappointed in the seating. In the back are high-top tables which are very small. The "bar" is along the long wall. The "restaurant" is catered food ( I don't think the venue has a kitchen). It's arranged buffet style on portable tables in the lobby. You go in a line and chose your dinner and they hand it to you in a plastic to-go container. You eat at your table and then bus your leftovers and trash to the trash can. There is no wait service. Just like eating at a fast food restaurant. If your sitting at a small high-top table there's not enough room for more than two people to eat. You'll be seated with strangers and they'll be right in your face as you eat. The "bar" only has beer and wine for alcohol. Or you could get a canned mixed drink. Stand in line and wait your turn at the end of the bar. The bar seats are reserved for the show. Remember no wait service. So if you want a drink during the show you have to go to the bar. Music was not Jazz. Very slow, boring folk. The crowd was 70+ year olds. And they charge for this experience? Won't be going back.
