Us locals brought our visiting family from the mainland. First time dining at Kahala resort and loved the experience. It was the first week of vaccine card/neg covid proof and although it was noticeably humbug the staff was great, helpful and live music set the ambiance terrifically. The menu looks light and fancy and it's definitely fancy but not light we were well fed and cared for at the Veranda Kahala. Tea time ????????? What's that ? Which was my initial reaction when my girlfriend said let's have tea at the Kahala! Anyways what a fun experience it was! Especially at the beautiful Kahala Hotel and Resort! First off the valet team was great. We were immediately greeted by the amazing doorman Wally. We then walked over to the Veranda and were seated immediately which was great! Some restaurants I go to take so long just acknowledge our presence. Moving on to the menu we ended up getting the Classic tea service with the Kahala signature blend tea. WOW what a great choice we made. The arrangement of the cute little sandwiches and dessert we're phenomenal with the tea being at the perfect temperature. The only one thing that slightly bothered us was the temperature of the veranda itself. It was slightly on the warmer side but again it is the summer and installing A/C in an open air lounge like the veranda seems like it would be very difficult and expensive. Overall, it was a fun and great experience with great service from both the valet team and veranda team. Food and tea was great ! Service was great! Went to the Veranda for their Afternoon Tea after making reservations online through Open Table. I was thrilled that we had one of the outdoor seating tables with a wonderful view of the pool and beach! As far as the atmosphere, I would give it 4 out of 5 stars, because there are beautiful views that overlook the pool and beach. However, the food, champagne, and tea, although beautiful, were average (2 out of 5 stars). The finger sandwiches (ham and salmon) were quite tasty, but their deserts were overly sweet and reminded me of strawberry poptarts, which I was not a fan of. This could be because it was a pink-themed service for breast cancer awareness. However, our teas were also lukewarm, which was somewhat unappealing. Pros: -4 hours of free self or validated parking at the resort -Great views -Beautiful afternoon tea display -Friendly hostess -Surprising filling Cons: -They don't really read the notes that you write on your online reservation. The Kahala Signature Blend tea is amazing. It has a very sweet aroma. My mom and I added a few sugar cubes to it and it enhanced it's flavor so much! (My mom and I prefer our teas on the sweeter side). The White Rose tea smelled amazing but it wasn't as sweet/floral as the Signature. Both were recommended by the waiter and both were very good choices. The Classic Tea service was adorable! 3 Tiers of food from scones, sandwiches, and sweets. The scones came with a marmalade that was an absolute perfect pair. The sandwiches were cute and packed a lot of flavor in a small piece. The Beach House Salad was SOOO good. The soy braised pork belly was SO flavorful and such a good protein for the salad. Along with the grilled jumbo shrimp (looked more like fried to me but was delicious nonetheless) , grapefruit, quinoa, roasted kabocha, corn, and a side of the tomato vinaigrette is hands down one of the best salads I've had. My mom and I split the salad and split the classic tea service tiers and it was perfect. Our tummies felt satisfied after sharing this meal (we're both on the heavier side). Since my initial review of The Veranda appeared on Yelp, I was contacted by Roseann Grippo, the General Manager of The Kahala. She was sincere in her apology and reassured me that the staff at The Kahala are trained to provide utmost service to their customers. Just the fact that the GM herself took the time to contact me, made me realize that this hotel takes our concerns very seriously. The Veranda is the Kahala's hotel bar, and it's a lovely place for a quiet drink, located just past the lobby. It feels very much of one piece with the island opulence of the hotel, with high ceilings and lavishly colorful chandeliers, an ocean view right through wide windows. The lounge set-up is pretty comfortable. I went for a round of cocktails with my family after dinner at Arancino, and we had a pleasant, relaxing time. Service was fast and friendly, and we kicked back and enjoyed some drinks. Really no complaints except that the cocktails were overly sweet. I ordered The Tree House, a modern tiki drink made with macadamia nut orgeat syrup, Bulleit bourbon, and Ron Zacapa Guatemalan rum. Not bad, but definitely more sugar than necessary. The Kula Negroni mixed strawberry-infused Campari with Tanqueray gin and Martin Bianco vermouth. Again, a reasonably good cocktail that might have done better with the fruity infusion. The Diamond Head Mule was solid, if not particularly noteworthy, a rum mule made with Banks 5 Island Rum, fresh lime juice, house ginger syrup, and a splash of pineapple juice and club soda. My favorite might have been the Lilikoi Swizzle, a highball of lilikoi tea-infused El Dorado 3-Year rum with passionfruit purée, simple syrup, and fresh lime juice, because the sweetness seemed warranted in a fruity tropical drink. I wouldn't go out of my way to drink at The Veranda, but it's a nice spot where you can enjoy some sweet, breezy cocktails in a luxurious environment with a view of the water. We looked online last week when we made the reservation and the menu was a lot better, not sure what happened in 3 days! You had basically 3 items to choose from: salmon, pasta or a beef. If you are super hungry don't plan on going to this place. This is not a negative review, just that it's a tea place. If you are big on tea (like me) than this place is for you. The atmosphere is nice, open place. One side that is open, looks out to people pulling up to valet their vehicles. On the opposite side looks out to the ocean. There is a lanai area that this place will serve you but is not open to allowing smokers. There is a good variety of teas to choose, from your green tea to black tea to your flowery tea. There are different "levels" of tea packets that come with various desserts/sandwhich to choose from - all finger food size. I remember the first time I came here with my parents, it was kinda late and we were allowed to order from the restaurant next door. I don't know if that is still allowed. We were seated outdoors and the view was very nice! You could see the dolphins swimming and the pool area. If you have a party larger than 4 they seat you at a lower table (a little harder to eat at but it wasn't too bad). It was really warm outside and drinking hot tea will lead you to sweat. I ordered the classic tea set with Oolong tea. I really enjoyed it and they do offer more hot water if you need a refill. The food was good, it's just the portion wasn't worth the price. There were too many sweets vs savory items. For $50 you're paying more for the space and experience than the service/ food itself. Came here for a wine pairing event. I want to start off with the ambiance...because wow this place is so beautiful. When you step outside, there's dolphins and turtles and a beautiful waterfall. Just beyond the elegant lobby of The Kahala Hotel, lies the most amazing setting of The Veranda. The Veranda offers an indoor and outdoor seating which overlooks the beach, pool, and dolphin lagoon. The view while sipping our tea was breathtaking! Being that it was my first tea experience, I ordered the same thing as my friend which was the Classic Tea Service. For $30.00, it included a pot of tea, four delicate finger sandwiches, four tasty desserts, and two freshly baked scones. (Tip: do not eat the blueberry scones before the plain one) With each tea service, we each had a choice of a Harney & Sons tea. The Veranda offered different selections of tea from Island Inspired, Asian Flair, and European Elegance. I decided to go with the Bangkok Tea which was under the Asian Flair category: Organic, hand-picked Japanese green teas carefully blended with lemongrass, ginger, coconut, and vanilla. Oh so delicious if you like coconut and vanilla! Classic Tea Service included an assortment of four savory sandwiches: Roast Chicken Salad, Shaved Serrano Ham & Truffled Manchego Cheese, Asparagus Mimosa, and Smoked Salmon and Three Caviar Creme Fraiche. It also included two fresh baked scones (plain and blueberry), clotted cream, and marmalade (which had a light pineapple flavor, very pleasant taste). It was our first time tasting clotted cream and it was absolutely tasty with the scones. A plate of four sweet treats: Coconut French Macaroon, Raspberry Dark Chocolate Tart, Lilikoi Meringue Tart, and Macadamia Nut Fancier Rum Cake. I had a fantastic afternoon tea experience at The Veranda. The sandwiches were all appetizing and had great flavor, especially the roast chicken salad and smoked salmon. Desserts were all very tasty as well. I loved the Coconut French Macaroon! Although the sandwiches and desserts seemed tiny, we were all satisfied by the end of our brunch. First off let me say that the Kahala Mandarin Hotel is the most gorgeous hotel on this island. My absolute favorite restaurant Hoku's is located here along with swimming with dolphins and a beautiful private lagoon. The Veranda has such a beautiful and enchanting ambience that it makes you forget reality for a moment. The tea and pastries are scrumptious and cute and makes for a very classy fun tea party. Why only 3 stars then? The food itself was not up to par with everything else. The bread on the sandwiches was dry and the club sandwich was oozing with mustard. The service wasn't bad but for the amount they charge and with such a classy set up I was expecting a bit more charm and finesse. Treated my mom to a nice Mother's Day get-together at the Veranda for daily afternoon tea. My mom loves doing high tea and all the little finger sandwiches and desserts that come with it. I made our reservation here for a Saturday through the OpenTable app a few weeks before Mother's Day since we didn't want to deal with the headache of crowds and trying to get a reservation the day of. I got an email confirmation for my reservation date and time, but I called a few days before anyway just to confirm with a live person. The restaurant staff was very responsive in answering phone and email inquiries right away. Parking wasn't an issue for us because it's free self parking in the guest garage with validation for 4hrs. We were lucky enough to get seated with an up-close view of the beautiful Kahala beach and even got a live show of the dolphins being fed and doing some tricks with their trainers! As we looked over the menu, our waitress was very good at answering any questions we had and explaining the menu and their selection of teas they offer. We went with the Classic Tea Service to share, which comes wth an assortment of four sweet treats and a plate of four savory sandwiches. As for the teas, I had their Sunny Meadow blend which is a mix of Chamomile, Spearmint, Passion Fruit Leaves, Lemongrass, Orange Peel, Cinnamon, & Strawberry Leaves. This type of tea really pulls more on the chamomile side, so if you're into smooth fragrant types of teas then you'll like this one. My mom ordered the Singbulli Estate Darjeeling tea blend. I really liked this tea a lot (maybe more than my own) just because I'm used to drinking more earthy-flavored teas. Don't underestimate the tiny portions of food because you get FULL FAST. The sandwiches were really delicious and satisfyingly filling. I had a great first experience dining here and visiting the Kahala Hotel for the first time. We booked through open table since Valentines Day at another restaurant did not having parking available. We received confirmation email that we would get a seat. When we got to the Veranda we were told that they had been booked since the day before and Open Table was not up to date. (How were we supposed to know? We have never had a problem with open table booking before) The hostess told us that they had one table left but it was right in front of the door and was quite windy. We decided to take it since it was already 815pm and we were hungry. It was extremely windy despite having adequate floor space where the table could have been moved so it wasn't directly in the wind tunnel. Otherwise, service was fine. My friends and I came to The Veranda for one of our friend's 21st birthday. We arrived around 3:30 PM for their afternoon tea. I know that afternoon tea is supposed to fancy, but for the hefty price, I'm not sure if the experience is entirely worth it aside from a one-time experience. The birthday girl tried to order one of their cocktails (for $17?! Yikes!), but they were not able to make a lot of the cocktail options because they "ran out" of ingredients. How do you run out of cocktail ingredients by 3:30 in the afternoon? Moving on to the tea service... we each got to try two savory sandwiches, two desserts, a scone, and some tea. The Kahala signature blend was pretty interesting. It was fruity and a bit herbal but grew on me the more I drank it. I enjoyed it with one cube of sugar. While the finger foods were small, I won't hesitate to admit that they were all quite tasty. However, I would have preferred that the scone were warm and a bit softer. It was quite dense. The thing that bothered me most about my visit to The Veranda were the birds! If you know me at all, you know that I am not a bird person. What if one lands on my head? What if one poops on my outstretched arm? What if they flutter their wings in the immediate vicinity of my face? They really need to do something about the birds here. They are not afraid of humans shoo-ing them from less than a foot away, and they waltz around like they own the place! Countless times, the birds would fly across our table and startle us. I feel sad writing this review because I was SUPER excited to try their Tea Service for the first time today. Extremely DISAPPOINTING! We were five of us and three of us ordered the Simple Tea Service. The service and food, unfortunately were very mediocre. The only plus - they offered vegan options. 1) FOOD: For $35/person the portions were very, very small. I got 1/4 size of a chicken sandwich and an open prosciutto sandwich ( both smaller than half the size of my palm). The bread was bone dry. The chicken sandwich had great flavor, but the prosciutto was not appetizing at all. It came with 2 sweet treats and a scone, which was dry and stale. The decadent cake and raspberry tart were pretty good, but not enough to make me smile. Now on to the tea - they were very generous with the pot of tea and gave us a refill once, but the water was not very hot so the tea got even warmer after adding milk. I had to ask them to warm up my tea in a microwaveso I could enjoy it. I was happy with the choices and earl grey was delicious. Again not enough to excite meOne of us ordered the kale and spinach salad and believe it or not there was no spinach and 4 pieces of kale. It looked more like a Caesar salad in disguise. UGH! 2) SERVICE: Either the staff was not well trained or we didn't look like the rich housewives of Honolulu because the service was unacceptable. I just called to cancel my reservations and the lady said that this time I wouldn't be charged, but usually they need two days notice before canceling reservations. I've never seen this policy anywhere online, so I'm unsure if this is just something rude or an outlier experience. What is even more odd is if this policy is true, I received a call just yesterday to confirm my reservation and that was just one day notice from The Veranda. Very unfortunate that they have conflicting "polices" and their team and online information is not updated (I suppose). I've been to the Kahala Hotel Veranda and Plumeria Cafe multiple times and service has always been excellent. I've booked reservations online before with no problems and called in to revise with no issues. I was so disappointed this evening at the Kahala Veranda. I was talking it up and took two friends there to enjoy the live soft music in the background. The music was amazing as always. It was the service that was disappointing and the food selection was just okay. It took 20 minutes for the waitress to come over. She took only one persons order for a drink and left. Then we had to flag her down to place the other orders. Then she was gone and I wanted to order food knowing how the service was going to be. So we ordered the steak. Yup she took steak order and ran away not taking the rest of the orders. Every time we order one item she leaves. There's three if us. We all want to eat. Then we wanted to have some tea and dessert. Yup you got it. Kitchen was closed. It would have been nice if she said kitchen will be closing is there anything else you would like to order. She didn't say anything. Total neglect all night. It goes beyond neglect. It's just poor training and poor service. The host was not any better. I flagged her down because I wanted to ask a simple question. She said she would be back. She passed us seven time and never came back. So thinking she may have forgotten I tried to get her attention again. She still did not come back. Let's be honest. It's not cheap there. I enjoyed going to the Kahala. I even supported them by going during COVID. Tea please! Before I got married my besties threw me a surprise afternoon tea. This was the first afternoon tea spot I've been to in Hawaii. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. As I'm writing this I want to go back. The good: + the tea: they offered something for everyone and I was happy with the one I selected. So delish! + the set-up: it was clean, the food came in the cutest rack, who doesn't love drinking tea in the cutest cups and tea pot. + the food: the desserts and sandwiches were just enough. super yummy! The bad: - the price: I just think it's a little high for tea. - the weather: hope for a nice day. It was rainy so they brought down the rain shield by view :( - the birds: being on the veranda there tend to be visitors. My absolute favorite place for afternoon tea. I love the Classic Tea Service. You get four savory and four sweet two-bite offerings, in addition to two scones (YES two scones) served with clotted cream (can I have some scone with my clotted cream, please?) and marmalade. And don't forget the lovely pot of tea. It's not loose tea, but I really don't mind. My favorite tea is the Bangkok! This place was amazing. Everything in this hotel has been excellent from the food to the level of service. Kim and Cenisaliza (I hope I spelled your name right) were incredible! They made it such a wonderful experience. And the food was super oishi. We love this hotel, we are just so pleasantly surprised how lovely everyone is. We'll definitely be back. I also wanted to point out for those that mentioned it was expensive, this is a 5 star hotel and therefore the quality service, food and price point completely reflect that. read more

Tea at the Veranda is one of those experiences that take you to a bygone era. When you sit down at one of the rattan chairs it is almost nostalgic to what I think the plantation era must have been like. Sitting on tables set amidst hardwood floors, a gentle breeze blowing down to the coast, and experiencing the beautiful views. That's pretty much why you're going to tea there. The tea, the accompanying food service, and the service itself were ok, nothing truly special. The tea selection is respectable and offers Harney and Sons teas which will appease the immediate reason you are going there. The accompanying food selection is nothing to sneer at with scones with clotted creams and preserves, and a pretty respectable selection of sandwiches. That being said, the scones were a little stale and the sandwiches missing that final umph in flavor. The roasted chicken was missing a little seasoning while the ham was overpowered by the manchego cheese. Service was rather spotty and the staff seemed a tad overwhelmed. While the crowds were brisk, water glasses went emptied and it took us a bit to get our check. Granted we weren't in any hurry by any means, but it still took us awhile. Needless to say the photos were pretty and the tea good, but if you ask me who wins out between the Kahala and Halekulani. I think the Halekulani takes the prize. read more

Afternoon Tea on Valentine's Day! I usually come here for lunch or drinks after dinner but tried their afternoon tea for the first time. It was a really windy day so they closed the clear colored curtain at the lanai tables so that it won't be too windy but we can still enjoy the ocean and pool view. I made a reservation a while ago through Opentable and we could get a really pretty view table and I was so happy! We had Royal Afternoon Tea which comes with a glass of Champaign and full assortment of afternoon tea. The top plate came with a plain and a cranberry scone with clotted cream and preserves. Those were soooo good!! I loved the cranberry scone especially and the cream was great so as the preserve. I tasted some ginger in it but not too strong and it was perfect! The middle plate had 4 kinds of savory sandwiches which gave me another Wow when I ate. The Roast Chicken Salad, Shaved Serrano Ham and Truffled Manchego Cheese, Smoked Salmon & 3 Caviar Cream Fraiche and Asparagus Mimosa. Those are all finger sandwiches so it was small but really tasty and I enjoyed the every bite of it. The bottom plate was sweet treats!! Soooo yummy!! Loved them all!! My top 2 favorites were Coconut French Macaroon and Lilikoi Meringue Tart. I looove Macaroons and I liked the one from La Tour Café the best but this Coconut Macaroon could be one of the best one I've ever had. It wasn't dry but still fresh outside and the coconut cream inside was insane delicious... too bad it was tiny :( I could probably eat 5 of them in one time! The tart had delicious lilikoi puree and on top of it had really fluffy really good meringue...hmmm. I'd like to go back for it right now. Other 2 were also great and I really enjoyed both. Raspberry Dark Chocolate Tart had a fresh tasty raspberry on top and rich dark chocolate ganache inside. Macadamia Nut Financier Rum Cake was wonderful also with lots of chunk of Mac nuts and had some rum flavor. One thing I got disappointed was the tea. They doesn't show us tea leaf samples here. I'm used to it when I go to nice afternoon tea and I expected it here since it was a nice one. We got a menu for tea selection but I was waiting for them to bring me some samples so that I could see and smell but found out I had to pick from the menu. The tea came in a teapot of course but I got disappointed again when I saw the teabag label on it. They use a nice tea brand, Harney and Sons but my teapot came with a sachet not loose tea leaf. I don't think I've ever had afternoon tea not in loose leaves when I pay more than $40 for it. I would say the price is reasonable. Royal afternoon tea comes with a glass of Champaign but still $45 maybe that's why they don't provide loose tea? I don't mind paying more for a nice loose tea in a pot because it makes a big difference for me. What would you say about it? The service was.. well I shouldn't expect the best on a hectic Valentine's day maybe? There wasn't hostess available when we got there and all the servers were running around. I liked to have Champaign first and have my tea a little later but our waiter brought them together and poured my tea right away after he gave me my Champaign. By the time I tried my tea it was already cold. We finished the first teapot but our server didn't check up on us enough so we had to stop him and ask for more hot water and he wasn't really friendly unfortunately. Overall the food was excellent and the view was perfect so I am satisfied and will come back again but I should pick the non special event day to get more attentive service! read more

Afternoon Classic Tea Service the good: self parking is free for 4 hours service was friendly and patient enough food to fill up an hungry runner the desserts - 4 types and really yummy the bad: super water-downed tea - only ONE tea bag for the WHOLE POT. super tiny sandwiches cold scones I expected more for $30 a person. I expected and nice hot pot of Earl Grey with some decadent tea sandwiches. I got a pot of hot water with a single bag of tea. I use one tea bag for one cup. this did not make me happy. and then they did come by to fill my pot with more hot water. the sandwiches which were tasty, were so super small (like silver dollar small). the desserts were delicious. all of them were great. the scones (though cold, were okay) came with clotted cream and pineapple jam. service was good, they were nice and brought cold water, lots of hot water, and on another note, the creeper birds are very friendly and will jump on your table and dishes to see if they can grab a snack. oh, and they will if you let them! over all, not a horrible experience, I'm glad I went, but I wouldn't go back again. read more

Late high tea at the Kahala for my best friend's bridal shower. Holy wind tunnel! Located in the middle of the main floor. Very open air and lots of cross breeze! And being in the middle of the open lobby, we had issues with the birds, but it wasn't too bad. The tables were beautifully set up with pretty place settings. The tea was pre-ordered and paid for as a party so the only choice we got to choose was the tea we wanted. There were a selection, the staff is helpful in answering your questions about the tea, but we didn't get to smell the actual samples. Each person had their own pot of tea. And if you wanted more hot water, they would come around and refill for you. We also had champagne as part of our package. The food came on plates on a tiered carrier with "sandwiches", scones, and desserts. I enjoyed the sandwiches, and the scones were good too, but the desserts were too sweet for me. The staff were all very helpful. The service was good. It was a very relaxed atmosphere. It was a nice place to host a bridal shower intimately. But it's not somewhere I would want to do high tea again. read more

I've been to better afternoon tea places. I expected more from the Kahala but only one tea selection was available because the two others were out -- don't put it on the menu then. Wasn't a fan of their scones, and their clotted cream didn't quite cut it for me. I also didn't appreciate the random pigeon fluttering around. I know it's on the veranda but I didn't have to deal with flying critters at the moana surfrider or at the halekulani. read more

I've been here twice and have had both the full "Classic Tea Service" with tea & a choice of 4 sandwich bites & 4 sweets ($28) and the "Simple Tea Service" ($17). I would definitely recommend ordering the "Simple" service with the 2 scones and choice of 4 elaborate desserts... the sandwiches are incredibly small (even for afternoon tea) and the 4 bites of sandwich are not worth the extra $11. For tea, the best was the Bangkok: "organic, handpicked Japanese green teas carefully blended with lemongrass, ginger, coconut and vanilla". YUM. The Veranda itself is gorgeous with the seaglass chandeliers and ocean/palm tree view. Also, it's really nice that parking is validated: 3 hours for free. read more

Read about the 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee + Mother's Day High Tea and what they offered in Honolulu Magazine, so decided to take my mom and aunty to give it a try. Very nice, relaxing atmosphere on The Veranda with a view of Koko Head and the ocean and a light offshore breeze. The Wedgwood china was pretty with a slight oriental design. Everyone gets their own, full pot of hot tea and choice of 4 savories, scones with clotted cream and jelly, and 4 different desserts. I chose the smoked salmon, rare roast beef, ham and machengo cheese, and Hamakua mushroom turnover. Everything was good, but the Hamakua mushroom turnover could have used more filling. The desserts were good too. I took my scones, clotted cream wnd jelly home to enjoy because I was full! Great service. Great atmosphere. And the best part was treating my aunty to her first ever high tea at 90 years of age! read more

I have to admit that I was a little worried about the tea service at The Veranda after reading all the mediocre reviews. However, I thought the Afternoon Tea here was absolutely lovely and my girlfriends and I had a wonderful time. The savory options that came with The Classic Tea were unique and tasty such as the salmon with Ikura toast, asparagus sandwich and rare beef on toast. The scones were soft and moist and the clotted cream and lilikoi jam were a nice touch. The teas were standard and nice both chilled and hot. The ambiance of course is beautiful. On a nice day, the view of the ocean and beach is the perfect setting for an afternoon tea and The Kahala Hotel is an elegant, sophisticated setting. The only thing that was a little lacking was the service. It wasn't horrible, but "absent" more than anything. We hardly saw our server and it would've been nice to have our tea and ice refilled more often. I've been to other afternoon teas and service is usually over the top, which adds to the experience of Afternoon Tea. But even with the lack of service, it wouldn't deter me from coming back.
