A nice, laid back vibe, & great staff! I enjoyed the seating options, couches to chill out on and high top tables to get some work done. Lots of people studying and hanging out. The drinks were pretty good, however, a bit expensive for what you get. My hot coffee didn't have a ton of flavor to it, and wasn't anything really special sadly. The london fog was good though! This is probably my go-to coffee shop in Virginia Beach! There are some others I like, but they don't really compare to Roast Rider by way of convenience, efficiency and quality. I also love that they bring in sandwiches from Yorkies in the Vibe. The vibes are great for a coffee date, a quick coffee run or a meeting/remote work. I have even enjoyed sitting outside with my coffee when the weather is nice. I typically get an iced latte and they're able to customize it with alternative milk and light sweetener for me. It always comes out fast and delicious. I just wish they had straws. read more

I got the queen bee latte large ($9) with almond milk and it was made in about 4 minutes. Staff made it a few minutes. The coffee and flavors missed together very well. I came across this cute coffee hot spot a few weeks ago. A friend of mine had already been there and raved about them. So while we were in the area, we stopped by. They helped her by giving her a recommendation on a beverage, which she was very grateful for. The fact that they took the time to guide her to a beverage for her liking was nice. I have been in this area numerous times shopping for new houseplants nearby, and never knew RRCT was nearby. I know now. The atmosphere is such a vibe. There is plenty of seating available. The two times I have been there I have seen customers working, meeting with people ect. The staff was always friendly while there. Helpful as well. The bathrooms were clean which is always a plus. I have been here twice now, and my drinks were always made to my liking. A perfect beverage to sip on while traveling back through the tunnel. My beverages were always made in a decent about of time. I have not tried any of the food, but I did purchase a caramel syrup the other week. That was a perfect addition to my in home coffee and tea set up. A lot of what they do is homemade which is fantastic. Their syrups are delicious and sold in store. If they do not have any bottled, they will do that for you. *This is a coffee shop that should not be compared to major coffee chains. They are better. read more

I ventured into Roast Rider this week on my Maptacular passport coffee tour. Roast Rider is situated in the Hilltop East shopping center, sandwiched between Taste and My Gym. One thing I love about Hilltop - lots of shops/boutiques to walk to so you have can grab your coffee and wander around. There is plenty of private lot parking. The place was pretty busy with guests at tables but no one in line ahead of me when I arrived. The first thing that smacked me in the face when I entered was the strong odor of cleaner - the kind they mix in the mop water when cleaning floors at end of shift. It was nauseating.. and instantly recalled my table-serving days. Like most coffeehouses I visit, I was hoping for the odor of freshly brewed coffee, but alas. Just sickening chemical cleaner. At least you get the sense of cleanliness so I guess there's a plus .. They have a great number of options both to sip and to eat. On this visit, I was just interested in an iced latte. They offer decaf espresso, which is a good thing for us who avoid caffeine. And with a handful of house made syrup options, it's easy to mix and match to come up with some tasty creations. I stepped up to order and found the staff welcome to be.. not very friendly. It wasn't rude, just not welcoming. Apathetic would be the best word to describe it. When I asked about decaf espresso, I got a dry "yep" in response. After that, I didn't feel like asking any other questions about their menu. After ordering, it only took about 3 minutes to receive my latte. I tried a vanilla Nutella flavor and requested half sweet. It was still a little too sweet for my taste so I ended up cutting it with home brewed coffee later in the morning. I'd definitely consider trying another flavor combination as they have a lot to choose from, including sugar free syrups. Overall, this was an unimpressive experience. Had it not been for the passport, I likely would not have come in. If back in the area, I may come back to try a food item since that part of the menu is expansive. read more

Sipping Sunday Stop: Roast Rider - Great Name, Mid Coffee Next on our Sipping Sunday passport crawl: Roast Rider. Cool name, strong coffee vibes, and a line out the door--so we were hopeful. But unfortunately, the experience kinda... sputtered out. I left my passport book in the car but didn't want to lose my spot in line, so I skipped using the coupon. No big deal. I asked the barista for a rec, mentioned I'm a cold brew girl and like to try the monthly special. They offered up their cherry cold brew, which sounded interesting. I also grabbed a coffee cookie to round it out. But let's break it down... The cherry cold brew? Look, it had flavor--but it just didn't hit. Strong, but not in a good way. It felt like they used some syrup that overpowered the coffee instead of complementing it. Definitely missing something to balance it out--cream, sweetener, anything. The cookie was the real betrayal. Dry. Like, dusty dry. And those pretty flecks of coffee grounds baked in? They stayed in my mouth like I was chewing actual espresso. Texture: 0/10. It left me confused and thirsty. After trying both, I debated if I even wanted my passport stamped. But I'm committed, so yes--I went back out to the car, got my book, and made sure I got credit for the visit. Didn't even bother with the discount. This was for the record, not the reward. Now to be fair--they're dog-friendly (Lexi approved ), and they've got nice outdoor seating, which earns them some points. It's a cute spot. Chill vibe. But as far as the drink + treat combo? Ended up at this cute little coffeeshop on happenstance, and I am glad I came! The staff is super friendly and gave recommendations on the creamiest nondairy milk for my latte (oat). All of their house syrups are made from scratch, so I tried the caramel. It was delicious! They are a tad bit pricey even compared to Starbucks, but they are definitely worth another visit! read more

While I waited, they have sticky notes and pens for people to write down whatever and leave it. Now onto the coffee, it was pretty good but as someone who enjoys a bit of a stronger flavor, I preferred if there was more gingerbread to it. Other than that, it was actually perfect. The interior was very chill and seemed like a perfect place to get some work done or even meet up with some friends. Roast Rider is in the Laskin shopping area, easy to find and easy to park. Plenty of seating inside and a fun, unique style! The post-it notes with customers' messages add color and character. They have a fairly standard coffee menu but also offer several rotating specials. I tried a seasonal Cherries and Cream latte. It was to die for! Super smooth espresso, well-balanced flavors, not too sweet. Beautiful latte art as well! I paid $7.50 for my 12 oz drink and that included a 15% tip. A bit steep but that seems to be the going rate at coffee shops these days. Happily, the drink was truly excellent and I will definitely return. read more

A coffee shop that won't sell you coffee. I didn't get a chance to try their cortado because they stop selling espressos at 5pm. The shop's signs and website says it closes at 6pm. I told the young lady at the counter that I had drove 20 minutes out of my way to get here and that maybe not serving a coffee drink an hour before you close is something to put on your website. Her reply was, "Yeah I guess so." I not blaming the young lady. Management or owners should make it clear that a certain service is not provided after a certain time. read more

I was running an errand in the area and after an hour of some heavy lifting in the hot sun, I was dying for a cold drink and a small snack. The search for the nearest coffee shop led me to Roast Rider Coffee +Tea (RRCT). I was on a time crunch, so unfortunately I didn't have much time to really enjoy the place, but the quick grab-and-go experience was a good intro for future visits. - Noms & Sips - *Chai - I was in a tea kind of mood that day. My go-to tea drink is a Chai, hot, iced, blended, dirty etc. I opted for iced. I loved their chai blend! Nice and spice-y and great milk and tea ratio. I also got cinnamon on top and that was a great addition, but I also love cinnamon and they sprinkled a generous amount. Personal tip: I always opt for whole milk for my Chais. If the milk is any skinnier, I feel like it makes the chai taste watery IMO. *Chocolate Coffee Scone - I was kind of hungry too, so I also grabbed one of these and they were fantastic! I believe they were vegan. Not sure if they make it in-house of if they get it from a local neighboring biz, but it was moist and dense. Great snack to tide me over before my late lunch. Listen I drink coffee every single day. I've tried almost every shop in the Hampton roads area and C4 Columbia coffee and Roast Rider have to be that absolute worst. I understand it's a latte but put some more expresso . I'm drinking milk and syrup with no expresso. First the large isn't even that big to only taste like milk. I'm guessing y'all use 1 oz of expresso. Stop finessing people. Y'all are much better off going to. 17 hands, Badass coffee, high cup,American brew, black riffle. Loved coming here, it was really cute inside and the coffee was delicious. There is a parking lot outside so parking wasn't an issue. They have some baked goods for sale and most of them are gluten free options. They also sell quiches and oatmeal that they can prepare too. This is a cool little coffee shop in the Shops at Hilltop. It is right next to a Taste location. There is lots of seating inside, and the staff is very friendly and willing to help with any questions you have. They have coffee, teas, pastries and cookies (lots vegan!), smoothies, and specials now and then for sandwiches and other food items. The price bracket here is a bit higher. Their food items and smoothies are quite pricey.. The smoothies were $11 and a sandwich special, the Jeggy, was around the same price. I attempted to order a smoothie but there was no customization to get no almonds, as I'm allergic, but the smoothies are pre-made. So.. I went for an oatmilk Hot Chocolate, and a Crunchy Hydration mango sparkling water. I really like the Crunchy brand. The hot chocolate took 5 minutes to come out. It was nice and hot. A lot of the chocolate had settled at the bottom and wasn't mixed in too well, but there was a good amount of chocolate flavor once I mixed it up. All in all, this is a pretty cool coffee shop! From the wonderful Barista to the sweet raspberry white chocolate iced latte with coconut milk and the delicious food. It's ALL good. Love the chill atmosphere. Calm lighting and cozy seating. Decorated with elements of Beach elegance. ALWAYS great service. And the endless possibilities of combinations. You want it.They've got it. If you are like me and endless options is to overwhelming. No problem. They have a small board with Barista picks on it. I love this!!! I order with this every time. I do add chocolate,sometimes, to my choice. Some days call for chocolate. I'm totally into trying new things so different options on milks is wonderful. To tell you they have so many options I would think it may take years to try all the combinations. As I was looking around this past weekend and found a shop I haven't heard of. Upon walking in. It seems like a pretty cool place but when I start to pay more attention, there was a lot of extra merchandise being sold on various walls, and I found it kind of annoying and distracting from the fact that this is a coffee shop. I know most places do that but it's in a more organized meaningful way. Even though there is food set out, the scone I got was decent, and luckily not dry which is good for me. I got a latte as well, and it had decent flavor, nothing extra added, no need for flavors in my coffee. I always get pretty bummed out when you order a coffee at a café, and whether or not you dine in or not, they still give you a paper cup, which kind of kills the mood of going to a coffee shop. That is a very Starbucks/corporate thing to do in my opinion. Also note to the owner, I don't know if your merch in the back of the shop actually sells but usually it's a better idea to have it at the front near the entrance so that you can look at it while you walk by to order or while you're ordering. read more

After scouring Yelp for coffee shops near our home, we came across Roast Rider and knew we needed to try it. Also, love the name! Located in a shopping center with lots of parking, Roast Rider provides a very calm atmosphere with everything a coffee shop should be. Staff was friendly, and the woman behind the counter walked us through the menu after we told her it was our first time there. My husband and I both got the Shakerato, one of the drinks of the month, which was expresso, heavy cream, and syrup of your choice shaken up with ice. I got the vanilla syrup with full sweetness, and my husband got the lavender syrup with half sweetness. The drink was so good, but came in a very small size! I was finished pretty much by the time we got to the car. Not sure if it comes any bigger but it definitely should! While waiting for our drinks there was a lot to look at. I like how they have candles and body wash for sale from a small business, P.F. Candle Co. These would make a perfect gift!! The barista behind the counter made conversation with us while we waited which was nice. Also A+ for sustainability with the paper straws! We will definitely be back! Food: I initially loved that they had a selection of vegan options and non vegan options. (My husband is vegan, I am only dairy free so vegan works for me as well when it comes to baked goods). I bought two cookies for tomorrow and when I gave them to my husband he pointed out that one was TWO days expired. Major downer. Customers shouldn't have to micro manage whether something is expired or not. My latte tasted fine. Not amazing, not bad. Nothing special but decent. Service: I waited a good 20 minutes for two simple lattes. When I asked about them I was told someone took both of them. THAT part is not their fault, but figuring out if a drink was yours when it came out was difficult. This could be solved by either taking the customers name at the register, or marking the cups. Great coffee and awesome interior set up. We came in for an afternoon coffee and snack. The cinnamon was the perfect snack to pair with their coffee. Love how this place lets you write and hang sticky notes. It really adds to the character and vibe of this place. They also have a water fountain because we all know staying hydrated is important.
