Legal themed restaurant located in downtown Graham! The restaurant nailed it with the theme because the menu items are perfectly named. The restaurant is cozy. There are a few tables inside and out, so it can get busy depending what time you go. My husband and I arrived and it was seat yourself, so we chose a small high-top inside. We shared the fried pickle chips as an appetizer and I had the assault & battery burger (add lettuce & tomato) for my entree. The burger came with a side, so I chose fries. I enjoyed the food, but I found the fried items (pickles & fries) were slightly over salted. Service was wonderful & quick. Everyone who helped us was very nice. Parking was easy to find. Very happy with this decision while in the area. A cute little pub-style restaurant with catchy names as a play on the courthouse being across the street. I had the Chipotle Turkey Panini (from the "Not as Guilty" section of the menu) and the Coconut Caramel Pie (from the "Rebuttals"). The panini was crispy and full of flavor without being greasy or dry and I loved the chipotle sauce. The chips were perfection!! Think extremely thin cut handmade and fried to a crisp... dipped in ranch and I could've placed another order. Now let's talk about dessert!!! This coconut caramel pie was also made in house which sealed my decision that I will be returning SOON. Graham crust with a light cream cheese and coconut filling, topped with toasted coconut and caramel drizzle. I left trying to formulate the recipe in my head to recreate at home. Had to wait forever to even get our drink order taken. Service is very lacking don't waste your time. Food was good but constantly had to keep asking for things like napkins, drink right down to dessert was served without a fork. Not sure how they stay open. All in all, staff are very nice, but were a bit short handed for a Monday night. I had to wait 10 minutes before my drink order was taken, but I was understanding because of the amount of employees working vs. the amount of people inside the restaurant - there were 5 from what I saw - (1 cook, 1 bartender, 1 waitress, 2 busting tables) I kinda felt sorry for them, because they definitely were running around "like a chicken with it's head off!" I got a fish sandwich and fries with wine (white zinfandel). Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of that, however that fish "hangs" off both sides of that bread! On Tuesdays they have $1.00 PBRs. On Wednesdays they have half priced wine (bottles and glasses). On Thursday they have $3.00 drafts. Although they were short staffed, definitely saw team work implemented. It was a little warm inside.... wished they would turn the thermostat to 65°, but that's just me. They did what needed to be done! Verdict On the Square was my choice for lunch while in Downtown Graham. The restaurant has a sanitation score of 99.5 that I saw displayed in the window. They also have inside and outside seating that is heated. The inside tables are distanced and the employees working in the front were wearing masks. The restaurant is located in the Paris Building. The menu is what impressed me to eat here. Appetizers are "Call the Docket"; salads are "Farm Detention"; Burgers are :Guilty"; fish are "Maritime Law"; sides are "Cell Mates"; kids menu is "Juvenile Court"; there were more but those are what I remember. Service was top notch here; very attentive and made sure I had the proper sides and dressings. I ordered the District Court Burger and chose fries for the side but there were several options from mashed potatoes to green beans to a side salad. The burger was very good that I think I devoured that and the fries pretty quickly. I also got the Harvest Salad with grilled shrimp to go. The shrimp did not make it to the photo but there were six grilled shrimp. The salad is a leafy green mix; sliced apples; strawberries; grapes; dried cranberries; walnuts; goat cheese and bacon. For dessert the blackberry wine pound cake was recommended. It came out like a piece of art and was delicious as well. The desserts are homemade. First things first...normally I enjoy this locally owned restaurant and its food. Tonight, however, I can't say that. Tried to call in a takeout order on this Friday night. I called 10-12 times with no answer. I only live a short distance away so I drove over to place my take out order in person. That was at 7:40. It is now 8:20 and I still haven't received my food. On my second visit I went for lunch. I ordered tacos and my sister ordered the salmon. It was alright. Most recently, I went for a business lunch. Two of us had the harvest salad with fried oysters on top and the third person ordered tacos. The service was friendly and prompt and I really enjoyed my salad a lot. Many places miss the mark on fried oysters but here they are delicious! This is also at a great downtown location with ample parking and the inside aesthetic is nice. We had dinner at El Palmar (see the review) and then, not ready to go home, went just around the courthouse square to the Verdict for a little dessert. The peanut butter pie was delicious. It's a frozen pie that has something like chocolate or peanut butter chips on top and whipped cream on the end, and the plate is drizzled with chocolate as well. This place was so hyped up by my future in laws who raved about the large variety of bourbons they had. And we were sadly disappointed. We came here and met up with some family friends all in hopes of sharing some good food and drinks. We were promptly seated outside on the patio where we had requested and then the waiter took our drink orders. We quickly went around the table ordering bourbon and wine. Minutes later the waitress returned apologizing that they didn't have the bourbon that my boyfriend had requested. So he asked for a different one. Another 5 minutes passed and again she returned apologizing that THAT bourbon was also not available. We thought, "alright third time's a charm". He then ordered a third time...and again! Not available! At this point, we were thinking "this is a joke". A place that prides themselves on bourbon doesn't have the bourbons that they advertise on their current menu? That's a bit ridiculous. He finally just settled with a glass of wine because at that point, we were already halfway through our drinks. This back and forth thing was getting annoying. We all ordered food. They were pretty accommodating to dietary restrictions/food allergies. I can't have gluten, so I asked for my burger to be on a bed of salad instead of buns. My "burger" (which was really just a patty) came on a leaf. Literally, A LEAF. (See pictures) Everyone around me chuckled in disbelief. Hey, at least they were listening, but...c'mon I think you coulda done a little better than just a leaf. Maybe two leaves? I chose brussel sprouts as my side dish and that was actually way better than the burger. Nicely seasoned and crisped. After all that was said and done, we all left a little disappointed and baffled at the bourbon situation. Overall, not a great experience. We were grateful for the wait staff and host for being accommodating, but I think the Verdict needs a little tune-up on their menu. My verdict? The Verdict was a great little spot to visit on my trip to NC! I always love when a restaurant has a good theme and man was their menu themed!
