The view was an unbelievable eating experience from top to bottom. Each dish melted in my mouth and the chef even brought out complementary pallet cleansers in between every course. The staff was perfectly attentive and very polite. A dish that really stood out were the scallops appetizer which was possibly the best scallop I've ever had. I did post before this review on 7- 5-18(seems like it was deleted when I posted this review below) to contradict the negative reviews posted below. I was there watching what was happening when the below poster had their issue but I stand by Christophers (a managers)account of what happened. Some people feel rules are not made for them and no solution is good enough. I stand by that as I watched their behavior in the restaurant. We returned to The View on 7-6-18. First of all we have been visiting Mirror Lake Inn and The View since 2002 when it was called the "Averil Cornwell Dinig Room" and before the Bistro existed (same kitchen but a more casual menu). The restaurant was amazing then and even better now. Jarrad Lang and his staff are professionals and there is a reason why they get awards constantly. The front of the house are always cordial and very thorough and epitomize the culture of the Mirror Lake Inn staff. We had a 530 reservation and were taken promptly and fortunately had a seat at one of the best tables in the place but I should mention all the tables have a great view of the lake and High peaks. Savannah our waitress was outstanding and the meal was incredible. I reached out to Nichole one of the managers to thank her. I had the salmon and my family the chicken but that is not important. When we visit the View , which is always 1 or 2 times a visit everything is exceptional. The team at the restaurant has won multiple awards so there is no need to explain the stellar meal you will have. Expect to have a amuse bouche, what you order are far as appetizer and meal, bread, intermezzo, dessert and some chocolates and nuts at the end. All I can guarantee you is it will be one if the best meals you ever have. They do not win 4 diamonds for nothing. Fresh ingredients etc. I also can guarantee that it is the best restaurant in town. This is fine dining and though you don't need to wear a suit you need to have a collared shirt and pants. If you message me I could go into more detail of the menu and choices but this food is on another level. There are rules. The restaurant confirms your reservation and they have a modest dress code and you need to be there within 10 minutes. If you do not arrive please be sure to call them if you are late. They will have some wiggle room but do not take advantage of their niceness because you may be asked to take another reservation time. I support this fully. If you are looking for Outback steakhouse or Olive garden this is not the place. This is still a very welcoming place but they are not concerned with jamming as many people as possible into the restaurant causing their wait staff to be stressed. You may be asked to wait and you will see tables open. Just relax it is worth it. When you arrive , try to come early and have a drink in the Bistro bar. Bartenders like Matt are fantastic to talk to. Though this is fine dining the restaurant is very welcoming and like the Mirror Lake Inn there is not much they cant do for you if you are reasonable. I was blown away with Savannah when she entertained the idea of possibly getting batteries for a patron for his camera and when someone wanted to order an item from the Bistro menu. She had the patience of a Saint. If you eat at the View I recommend ordering from that menu and not the Bistro. Go to the Bistro on another night. We went twice. Fantastic food also. Same kitchen, similar ingredients, same quality. Sometimes five dining restaurants get a bad wrap for "not enough food". Not the View. Ordering an appetizer , a main course and possibly a dessert and you will not go hungry. But dont expect a doggy bag. This is not that type of place. I promise you that you will eat nearly everything in front of you. As I mentioned above the View is an absolutely amazing restaurant and everyone should experience it. It is well run by the front of the house. But please keep in mind to respect their reservations. As I have with the Mirror Lake inn I feel the same with the View, they are consummate professionals but they not only need to care about your reservation and visit but many others. So please be reasonable. I get questioned a lot that the price of a meal is higher. Yes it is more expensive than many meals inLP but it is at a high quality. I live downstate and have many restaurants that are around the same price point that don't even compare to The View. It is money well spent. You will not have a dining experience like it in most places let alone LP. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Chef Lang and his staff as well as the front of the house are exceptional. We enjoyed a romantic dinner here the other night. We were able to make last minute reservations yet they sat us in the beautiful, quiet and romantic front room overlooking the lake. Our server was very good, she was kind, attentive and made the whole experience great. Their wine list is extensive and has so many options, we were able to pick one we really enjoyed. We started with the crab cake appetizer which was pure crab, it was great. We also had the romaine salad which was like a deconstructed Caesar salad- also very yummy. For dinner we had the filet mignon and the braised pork. The pork dish was large and flavorful and the filet was well cooked and seasoned perfectly. We ended our meals with espresso, a latte and their homemade ice cream. All a very satisfying way to end the meal. After we finished we settled into the couch by the fire place at the restaurant and relaxed. It was a great meal and overall experience. read more

Both were extremely well done- tasty with a generous portion. The second course I had the potato soup and he had the romaine salad which he happily reported tasted entirely of bacon! I ordered the filet, medium and it was cooked to perfection. (Notably I am very picky about this) He ordered the gnocchi which was flavorful. The raspberry creme brulee and the balsamic and strawberries topped it off- the strawberry dessert being the more excellent and unique of the two! The wine pairing was worth it- I would recommend if! The staff was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. The vibe is quiet and refined, perfect for romantic conversation. 2.5 stars. Not as expected. The view of mirror lake from the table is fantastic, ambiance excellent, food average, presentation above average and service below average. Our water glasses, wine glasses and martini glass were empty the majority of the dinner. The server wasn't attentive at all. She appeared to be overworked with 5 tables occupied. She'd disappear for increments of 15 minutes. Typical 5 star restaurants have have servers work in teams with less tables to ensure precise service. We don't consider ourselves to be needy, but we do expect good and attentive service at a supposed AAA four diamond restaurant. The food...we each chose the Caesar salad for starters. It was ordinary. The dressing lacked the robust flavor you expect from Caesar dressing. I had ordered the free range chicken for my entree. The chicken was tender, but the flavor was odd. I wouldn't get it again. He had ordered the prime filet. It was also tender and all around average. Nothing exceptional. Our server brought us the dessert menu and after dinner drinks list, however, she didn't return for nearly 20 minutes. He was going to order the vintage scotch flight, and I had planned to order the Mirror Lake Inn coffee drink and creme brûlée, but we grew annoyed with the wait. When she finally came back, we asked for the bill and cashed out. All in all, it was not worth $200. The service is the main component that needs improvement. Their wine list is wonderful, however, complete with our favorite wineries in Napa where we are wine club members. Joseph Phelps and Charles Krug! This explains why they have won the wine spectator award. We are staying at the Mirror Lake Inn currently, and just expected more from the restaurant because every other aspect of the Mirror Lake Inn has been wonderful. read more

Over-priced breakfast: We had breakfast at the View on a weekday. We had to wait 15 minutes before we got a seat. The view of the lake outside the windows is beautiful but the food is just so-so. I can not believe this facility!!!! What a disgusting disgusting service. The manager Nicole Dunforf should be fired!!! We walked in 10 minutes later than their 10 min late policy (that no one told us about) and they told us to leave, they will not sit us. I have never ever experienced anything like this. How can a manager not sit 2 families with kids ? Most costumers there are tourists and it took us 10 min to find the place due to lack of signs on their part. There was no one waiting behind us and tables were empty! This manager showed complete disregard and care to the costumer. I would never recomend this place. I don't want to spend money in a place that staffs complete snobs. Your response to my review further indicates what a nasty facility you run. Complete snobs. You can write what you want but there were 4 adults and all can vouch for what happens. No one called to say we can not come in. Your dining room had more then a dozen empty tables and while we were trying to figure out what is going on, asking for a manager, which your nasty employee would not call 25 minutes passed. Not a single costumer walked in at that time. Instead of apologizing for the situation both at the time of the incident and in your justification of your actions in this response, I stand by my review. You have an HR number to call but no one returned my call when I left a message right after the incident. My boyfriend and I made a reservation to dine here while in Lake Placid for a long weekend away. The experience was wonderful from beginning to end. The atmosphere is very romantic, soft lighting, candles, a beautiful view and piano music in the background. We ordered from every course and everything was delicious. Pork belly and a Romaine heart salad for the first course. Bass featured entree and sea scallops for our main course. And finished with two desserts off of their extensive homemade list. The chef sent out a little tasting and palate cleanser sorbet in between courses. Our server Sarah was great. This is a very classy restaurant. The ambience for dinner is very calming. The menu is reflective of farm-to-table specials. I had the pan seared duck special which was served medium rare over a sweet potato purée with some grilled cauliflower. It was superb. My husband had a Caesar salad starter which he thought was the best Caesar salad he ever had (which is a high compliment coming from him). Then he had the trout entree which was delectable. Dressed up for a nice dinner and it did not disappoint. At first, it was a bit confusing to find as the signage did not indicate whether the restaurant and parking was on the street or in the hotel. It ended up being in the hotel and the concierge said it was fine to park there. The service was excellent and the candle lit ambiance and lake view was on par with the AAA 4 star rating. We ordered rainbow trout and the braised bison ribs, both were well placed, delicious and cooked perfectly. I found The View through the Lake Placid Website - but couldn't find much information elsewhere - I emailed and was told my needs could be accommodated but they couldn't guarantee against cross contamination - I felt apprehensive but stopped by to speak with a worker IN person who went over EVERY single menu item with me and how I could make it gluten free and dairy free IF I wanted - HANDS DOWN, THE FANCIEST CELIAC - GLUTEN FREE DAIRY FREE MEAL I HAVE EVER HAD, AND SO DELICIOUS! I was served WARM gluten free rolls in endless amounts, the chef prepared a special "tasting" for me with out cheese, raspberry sorbet cleansed our palates, I had the Trout - which was sea​ salt cured and apple wood smoked, with petite greens and herbs, Dijon vinaigrette, pickled onions as a starter and an elegant Pheasant special for my entree in which they CHANGED the sauce, just so I could have it! I had previously written a review giving the View two stars, but I am amending it now to change it to one star. I would make it less if I could. I am making the change because of the deplorable way I have been treated by management. On Valentine's day proper, I had a reservation for the View. I was looking forward to it, so I ate very lightly until our 8pm reservation: the only thing I had to eat up until then were some fries. Over Valentine's day dinner, we enjoyed their foie gras, some smoked fish, and chicken, along with a half bottle of wine. The meal was pleasant and the service was good. We ended the meal at about 10pm. I was woken up at 4AM because of terrible stomach pain. I immediately rushed to the bathroom, and proceeded to vomit three times. I also got very unpleasant diarrhea. I spent about 7 hours in the bathroom trying to get rid of everything that I ingested, by one way or another. The rest of the day was miserable. I was in pain, and unfortunately, a significant portion of our limited stay in Lake Placid was ruined. Three days later, I was still feeling the after-effects. I informed management at the Inn (where we were staying) of this at about 11am on the day following our dinner. They never apologized. Instead, I was told that food poisoning usually takes 24 to 48 hours to manifest itself, and therefore I couldn't have contracted it because of food I ate at the View. Upon driving back to New York, I wrote a little review on Yelp giving the Inn two stars: I thought that my negative experience at the View should be counterbalanced slightly by my positive experience of the room. Less than one week later, management never contacted me, and instead hired a legal team to reach out to me. In their words, my comments were "patently false and misleading", and "appear to be intended to willfully cause economic to Mirror Lake Inn and/or are made for the purpose of seeking payment from the Mirror Lake Inn". I was told that the inn would "take appropriate legal action against me if I do not withdraw my review". I have had to go to additional time and expense to hire a lawyer to defend my right to post a factual review of my personal experience at the View. I have paid to have this review be vetted by my lawyer. Never, ever have I been treated so poorly by management at any resort I have ever stayed at. I will never be going to the Mirror Lake Inn or the View again. I will not support management that treats its guests in this way. read more

Impeccable food and service overlooking Mirror Lake. Locally sourced fare is proudly presented with elegance but, thankfully, no pretension. The smoked trout with caviar, romaine salad, crab cakes, and Dutch Knuckle cheese custard dishes were all enticingly prepared and delectable. My gnocchi primavera was pillowy, fresh, and tasteful. The Mirror Lake Inn is a favorite of mine since I first came to stay in 1994. Rave reviews have encouraged friends and family to go and go often. We went this weekend with a work group. Drew was fantastic in handling all aspects of our group event. We had such a delicious meal in the Wykoff Room. Filet mignon and stuffed shrimp (stuffed with crabmeat not breading) - we also had mashed potatoes and carrots. They were so attentive to gluten free diners in our group and one gentleman who had to eat kosher-style. The room was beautiful. Our servers and bartender were superb. My husband and I were very disappointed with the food and service at the View. We were guests at the Mirror Lake Inn where the restaurant is located and had a made a reservation way in advance. But we waited for a half hour for our table. More importantly, the food was awful. The prices were so overpriced for the poor quality. The view is beautiful, but when it's dark, you do not see the lake view. The salad consisted of greens that tasted bitter and ill prepared. The dressing was scant. My husband had the fish of the day which was NOT fresh, tasted fishy and not at all good. I had the duck which tasted like chewy steak. The night before we ate at The Hungry Trout about 10 minutes away from Mirror Lake. While not as fancy as the View, the food was so good and fresh. Felt like a scene out of a 1920s movie (set for a bad soap opera). Pretentious yet very poor service. We had to ask the water boy for someone to come take our drink order, and then again ask to order our meals. Coming from NYC this place was nowhere near worth the prices they charge. Top notch dining experience in Lake Placid. The service is impeccable -- we told them we were on our honeymoon and they pulled out all the stops. The menu is traditional fine dining leaning towards French and everything is beautifully prepared. I had the market fish special and my husband had lamb cheeks that were to die for. Ate there last night for my birthday. The service was outstanding, the view very nice and the food was excellent. We were there for a leisurely 2 1/2 hours and enjoyed it all. Had my birthday dinner here, and it was outstanding. We tried the scallops for the 1st course, which my girlfriend felt were some of the best she's had. Only comment would be that we would like to see more than 1 large scallop. But, the bacon jam and other accompaniments were delicious. For the second course we tried the Dutch knuckle, which was actually just ok. However, the braised lamb cheeks were the star, absolutely delicious. Among the top 3 lamb dishes I've ever had. As I think it's hard to make braised lamb as good as a medium rare lamb chop, hats off the to chef for pulling it off. Service was excellent and of course so was the view. We will be back. read more
