Service at the Walpack Inn is decent. Our server was friendly and the hostess tried to make things right when the dinner went south. First, we drove an hour for this highly recommended establishment. Upon arrival, on a Friday eve for a 7:00 res., the lot was packed and the restaurant was very busy obviously. Good sign. Next, we were asked to wait as they were running a little behind. Went to the bar for a cocktail and a looksee at the menu. The prices were out of my world. Hefty. I don't mund paying for a good meal at all however...Food came out cold, meat was over done, scallops overdone. They did discout the some items which was professional. I like that. Decided to take a ride and try this place that I have been reading about for ever. It was pretty crowded and without a reservation we didn't think we would get it but they had a table in the bar area so we were happy. It was actually better because there was much more room between tables as they really pack you in in the dining areas. We had oysters that were plump and delicious. For dinner I had prime rib and sandra had the broiled seafood platter. Both very good. The mashed potato that comes with the prime rib is absolutely delicious and the salad that comes with dinner is also delicious. I used to love this place but the food isn't as good. There were no tables so we sat at the worse table. We preprdered surf and turf. The prime rib was dangerously undercooked although I asked for medium. The lobster tail was so overcooked, it had no flavor. All was inedible. The salad and snow crab legs were good but really disappointed with the food. As the waiter added on surcharge for cc and automatic tip, I told him I was unhappy. He said I should have said something but why bring raw meat and overcooked lobster?? I don't want to send back my food. How is it my responsibility. My husband and I tried the surf and turf for two special yesterday! I thought we would have leftovers for our fur baby but everything was so amazing, we ate everything on our plates! This was the first time we tried the "dinner for two" instead of ordering off the menu, which is definitely recommended as well! We learned last night that it's still operated under the original owners but they are still looking for a buyer. I'm not sure if they ever will be the same under new owners but if you haven't tried this place out yet, please do before they close. The views of the mountains and wildlife are amazing too. I have been wanting to try The Walpack Inn for years and finally made it a Sunday destination dinner twice in four months. It is roughly an hour and ten minutes from my house so it is not around the corner! (If your GPS takes you on "Struble Road", do not make the turn or you will be going a dirt road through Stokes State Forest!) First off, the place from the outside is very deceiving. The interior is very large and sprawling. When you first enter, there is a somewhat big seating area to the left. This leads to a few steps to the bar which has the most gorgeous fireplace! Beyond that are the "greenhouse rooms" with a birds eye view of the beautiful mountainous exteriors and wildlife. (They "Feed the deer and the people"!) The epitome of rustic chic. Yesterday my family had a small celebration for my Dad's 93rd birthday. Our excellent server (and mixologist Josh), started us off with tasty pomegranate and apple martinis and a split of Prosecco. The appetizers consisted of garlicy good shrimp skewers, a delicious crab cake, and a warm goat cheese appetizer served with everything flat bread crackers. Their salad bar is open again (YAY) and their creamy garlic dressing is downright decadent! Entrees included: Stuffed filet of flounder, a seafood combo, A thick pork chop special with a blackberry reduction and my personal favorite, their Teriyaki rib eye! I have YET to replicate this recipe. All of this delicious food is accompanied by their homemade bread which is no less than AMAZING. Unfortunately for us, there was zero room for dessert as we all had leftovers to take home. Perhaps we need to make room NEXT TIME! You really have to be going here to get to the Walpack Inn cause it's on the way to nowhere. That being said, we planned our DWG day around a late lunch there and were not disappointed. We scored a window seat down in the Atrium area and Lexus our server was great. Not sure why other vegan yelpers had difficulties with the menu selections as the four of us had vegan burger, salad, pasta, chick-un choices and combinations. After all of the effusive praise I have heard and read for the Walpack Inn, I am sorry to say my family's experience for Father's Day Dinner was quite disappointing. While the appetizers were fine, the main course plates had clearly been sitting out for quite some time before being served to us, with the result being mildly lukewarm prime rib for my son and myself, a similarly tepid crabcake for my wife, and underdone chicken tenders for my daughter (who refused to eat any of them). This might have been resolved if the waitress had come by to ask how things were, but but as it was, she did not. We will not be going back. read more

We were here on a Sunday afternoon in March. We sat at the bar. The atmosphere is cozy and the plants hanging from the ceiling are huge and gorgeous. The fire was raging which was slightly sleep inducing. The live music was great. I had tacos that were on the happy hour menu. They were good. The bartenders were very attentive. This place is an experience in itself and we love coming here. The setting in the park is beautiful! The inside is always amazing especially if you sit in the room with the windows and the plants. The service is always spectacular. Make sure to check maps and traffic alerts before coming because certain roads can be closed (allow extra time). Their bread and butter is to die for! The salad bar is always so stocked! You get a lot of food for the price especially if it includes the salad bar. Our food is usually great! The restaurant is far, basically in the middle of nowhere, so just be prepared for that. We went last summer and ate outside and it was absolutely beautiful. Looking at the meadow and the hills in early evening, just so special. The food and drinks were good. During the holidays we went on a Friday evening, and I thought it would be cozier inside, but it's actually quite a large space. One fireplace in the bar area. Pitch black outside so no view of course. I had the prime rib special, which was good (Fridays it's $10 off). My son had the burger which he said was one of the best he had had. The salad bar was not huge but all of it was fresh and we liked it. All in all, a nice evening, the food is good, definitely on the pricey side, but that's ok for a special occasion. The cheeseburger is a patty slightly bigger than a McDonald's cheeseburger. Nothing to accompany it. They don't offer French fries ! Why not just add potato chips?? The soda refills are charged. What a hidden gem! The Walpack Inn has a very cabin in the woods type decor with the stuffed animals on the wall and all the wood detail work at the bar. The restaurant provides a very homey feel which I am a big fan of. We were sat up against the window where I was hoping to see some deer feeding on the corn the restaurant puts out for them but unfortunately it just wasn't the rite time of day for them to be out I guess. My friend and I ordered the salad bar along with an appetizer or two. I found it interesting that the salad bar comes with a side so I got a baked potato with all the fixings. The salad bar had fresh and delicious produce along with some very tasty and delicious options of salad dressing. It was all very refreshing and left me feeling full and satisfied. The shrimp skewers we ordered for appetizer were cooked to perfection. Apparently the Walpack Inn is known for their homemade bread and pies which I only got to try the bread which was delicious and now that I have been made aware on these pies I will not be missing out on my next visit! read more

I recently enjoyed a wonderful dining experience here. I surprised my friends with the location. They were delighted by the ambiance and nature scenes. I loved the fireplace crackling and the Christmas deco in the bar room and I loved all the greenery inside the dining area. The best part was watching deer feed right outside our window as we ate our dinner. I loved the oysters and cocktails. The cocktails were deceivingly strong! It didn't taste all too strong but we were all trying to pace ourselves after just one or two. I recommend the winter specialty cocktail. Foodwise, I loved the goat cheese appetizer. The mashed potatoes were really creamy and delicious. Also, I really loved their thicccc slices of homemade bread. The entrees we ordered were good but nothing out of the ordinary. We ordered prime rib and penne alla vodka. My only complaint was that it was a bit cold in there so I had to keep my coat on for most of the meal. Fantastic Salad Bar included with dinner entrees or can be added to hamburger for $10. If you want to spend $20/person there are plenty of delicious options which include salad bar. It's not often that you see an owner seating his patrons, but that is the special treat that we saw today. Jimmy, the owner, even brought us to our window seat table and wished us a wonderful meal. And that it was. We will travel the good half hour on the picturesque, winding roads to get to the famed Walpack Inn. Their homemade dark bread is irresistible and always hard to turn down. Both my fiancé and I ordered soups and added on the salad bar option. My fiancé's favorite here is the french onion and mine is the butternut squash. The salad bar is fantastic. I also enjoyed the harvest sangria, which was delicious and not overly sweet. Sadly, we were too full for dessert, but next time we'll have to save room for one of their mouthwatering pie slices. read more

Update: it's been 2 years since I've been back to the Walpack Inn. I've been going to the Walpack for over 10 years now and my last review of the restaurant wasn't great. I was told maybe it wasn't good due to COVID, but I had gone a few other times during COVID with great results. I went back today for the first time since May 2021 and what a world of difference. Last time the service was bad (mostly empty seating area, waiting 30+ minutes for our drinks), food was bad (pure salt and overcooked), just an overall bad experience especially for the price you pay for the food. This time around everything was perfect. From the food to the drinks to the service, everything just hit right. To anyone who's ever had a subpar experience at this establishment, give them a second chance. Tonight was perfection. read more

Horrible treatment of customers. Total disrespect for us. They couldn't find our reservation, became frustrated and made it my fault, when the fault lied with the hostess. They finally found the reservation, but without an apology for their rudeness. The manager then berated me in a vile tone, that one would not use on an animal, that I better behave to the server or "she would escort me out". The restaurant is up for sale. With this type of behavior on the part of the staff I say they truly need to end their restaurant reign. My wife and I went here for the first time tonight. It's a long drive from most places, and you have to pay attention to the driving directions on their website (don't trust Google Maps or your GPS), but worth it. Most people go for the deer viewing and the ambiance/atmosphere, which certainly don't disappoint. The cocktail selection was fairly extensive and the specific ones we had were quite good. The service was friendly and attentive from the time we entered till the time we left. It was a decently busy Friday night at 7PM and we were not rushed or reminded of a time limit even once. I think the biggest surprise for me, perhaps because of some of the negative reviews here, was the food quality. Everything we had was very good. The included salad bar had a wide variety of fresh selections and was impressive. The house made Garlic Salad Dressing was great. The Triple Cheese Onion Soup, Marinated Olives (a lot of them), and Penne Vodka with Grilled Shrimp were all very good. The Prime Rib End Cut with Mushrooms & Onions (pictured) was excellent & huge! The only thing I was not really impressed with was the Mashed Potatoes side, which was just OK (very plain). Lastly, the Black Raspberry Ice Cream Pie was awesome and also huge. Leave room for dessert! Overall, this visit was an A+ and we'll certainly be back! I guess my advice to those questioning the food quality (like I was before visiting), based on some other reviews, would be to base your cuisine expectations on the kind of place it is.
