I had heard that Wayward was no longer fully vegan, based on what I had read online I went in expecting some huge changes. I pleasantly found that my family member with egg, nuts, and dairy allergies could get a full kids breakfast without any substitutions. He ate vegan eggs, veggie sausage, vegan pancakes, potatoes, and vegan chocolate milk. I was also super grateful to get country biscuits and gravy that also were vegan, the gravy is the best vegan gravy I've had in Seattle. The biscuits still had a crispy outside and soft inside while being covered in gravy. So grateful for this place, it's hard to get a breakfast this exciting with these allergies. Definitely letting my vegan friends know this is still reliable for a solid vegan meal. I also want to say the service was so sweet and we felt very taken care of. read more

Wayward's quality went from outstanding to sub par. The business was sold several years back and every visit I've had after the ownership change as been a poor experience. They leave off items from menu items that are listed, e.g. no gravy on a dish that says it has gravy. The kitchen staff doesn't even follow the ingredients on their own menu. The portions have shrunk down in size and the meal costs have only gone up. Their building is hot in the summer and cold in the winter and the seats are very uncomfortable. It's not worthwhile to dine in their restaurant because of how uncomfortable it is. Take out is a better option. hey also have introduced meat and dairy items. Prior to this year they branded themselves as a vegan kitchen. Now vegans have to worry about cross-contamination quality issues. Unfortunately this is not a restaurant I can continue recommend. Very quick. I'd say everything got a "just ok" from us. I couldn't eat the meatloaf at all (it was also badly burned at the edges) but the mashed potatoes and gravy were good. We were out running errands and it was nearing lunchtime. We saw Wayward Vegan as we were driving by and decided it was where we needed to stop. So glad we did! We puzzled over the menu for the while. There are a lot of burger and sandwich options. The burgers were all Beyond Meat, which we're not big fans of, so we skipped all of them (why don't they make their own patties, like some vegan restaurants do?). We focused on their sandwiches, which were all quite expensive. I say that now because when they arrived, the portions were huuuuuuge! As in, we had plenty for lunch the next day. So, honestly, not so expensive, given the portions. I ordered the TLTA (Tempeh Lettuce Tomato Avocado) (for $18.35), and my girlfriend ordered the Chico Vegan Melt (for $19.75). They were so delicious, as were the fries that came with them. As noted earlier, the portions were very large, so we took half the sandwiches home with us. The place is open with plenty of seats. But it was busy on a Sunday, so most of the seats were taken. We were able to get a table upstairs pretty quickly. Our food was served promptly once ordered. Probably the best vegan restaurant I've ever tried. I completely forgot that eggs are not vegan and was fully convinced my omelette had eggs because the texture was so convincing. My friends and I went to this location for a vegan brunch! The food was so amazing, I wish I took photos (I ate it way too fast!) I had the "chiggen" buffalo wings which was so satisfying. I've been a vegetarian for about 10 years now, and this is the best vegan chicken wings I've ever had. I also had the "chiggen" ceaser salad which was great as well! The ambiance is definitely a no frills restaurant. Very casual. So no need to dress up! The only downside is that the service left a lot to be desired. The service was extremely slow but more notably, the waiter would walk away as we we ordering? And then as a result, he would forget orders for some of our group whether it was drinks or a meal. After having this on my list of places to try for months, I finally ordered takeout from Wayward Vegan. It was sooo good! We tried the Albuquerque Crunchwrap, Reuben, Peanut Butter Chocolate Cheesecake and Lime Coconut Cheesecake. The wrap and the sandwich were both delicious, as were the fries and the chipotle sauce that came with the Crunchwrap. The cheesecakes were some of the best vegan desserts I've had in a while. Wayward Vegan is an absolute godsend as a vegan staple in North Seattle that serves such a huge variety of food at a consistent good quality. Now I am not vegan, just happy to support the cause, so I know how the non-vegan version of dishes should be as a comparison but never expect the vegan versions to be exactly the same because they're working with different materials. However I will say I've seen vegan dishes blow me away being just as good if not better than the non-vegan versions and sometimes you'd be hard pressed to tell a difference though that's not really as important as just making something taste really good in my opinion. At Wayward everything on the menu will satisfy. I've had nothing bad and I've had a few greats but most of the time you'll get something in the middle that scratches the itch but you know could be better. That's OK, their menu is huge and its an awesome one-stop shop for all your cravings as a vegan or someone just looking for a bite to eat. Orange Chicken 2/5 - Didn't quite have that citrusy zing and fried breading crunch I want from this dish. Popcorn Chicken 3/5 - Definitely hits the popcorn chicken spot but mine was underseasoned and wished it was crispier. I think it's important to note that neither my partner or I are vegan, however I AM allergic to dairy & eggs. I tend to choose vegan options when I go out to be on the safe side because, well, I like to breathe! Most restaurants have a lackluster vegan option added as an afterthought or can adjust menu items, but it's hard to trust since dairy likes to sneak it's way into things... Including champagne! So the Wayward Vegan is perfect, because I know I can eat ANYTHING without worrying. Along with that was the "Mac Daddy burger" - two patties, house sauce, lettuce, pickle, onion, and "cheeze". I was thoroughly impressed with this burger. The kitchen has removed classic, beloved menu items and often the kitchen does not follow the ingredients as listed in the menu. Finally their dining room has reopened and it was worth the wait. This is one of the BEST vegan restaurants in town and one where anyone can really enjoy, especially if they like some comfort food. From classic brunch items to burgers, this place really has it all. My partner and I split the 3-stack Pancakes special with vegan sausage and egg, and he got the California Crunch Wrap with them fries. I selected the choc chip pancakes and they were so chocolatey and fluffy that it was hard to finish! Generous portions all around and worth sharing. The vegan sausage wasn't anything exciting but everything else was top notch. The fries... we MUST talk about the spuds. Some of the best I've had. Get a basket if your meal doesn't already come with a batch. The wrap itself was massive and delicious too. If you're able to get a seat on the top floor, definitely do so. I love my lettuce and they provided a beautiful amount of fresh lettuce on the burger. The French fries were crisp and tasty! Everything was great! Service was warm and friendly. The loaded fries were the right size for a small meal. The fries themselves were perfectly crispy and the cheese sauce was a good consistency. The meat bits were crispy and seasoned well. The one dish I didn't like was the chiggen and waffles (chicken and waffles). The waffle was just very tough and hard to chew. The chicken filet itself was good, but the waffle ruined it. I would not recommend ordering any waffle dishes here. Park at the park and ride across the street. Keep in mind this is a cashless restaurant. Restrooms are single stall. I absolutely love Wayward! In my opinion, Wayward is one of the best vegan restaurants in Seattle! My wife and I are both vegetarian and really enjoy the restaurant. The atmosphere is very casual and laid back. The staff is really nice and friendly and they provide good service. The food is really good. I had a waffle and the Albuquerque crunch wrap. They were both cooked to perfection, fresh, and delicious. They had an amazing taste and didn't even taste vegan. They also gave some alcoholic beverages available as well. We came here bright and early on a Saturday morning. We ordered the chicken and waffles, chicken-fried steak with gravy, and the huevos rancheros. Everyone enjoyed the food that we ordered. The chicken and waffles were good but a little on the drier side. The huevos rancheros was also good but it did not taste like the standard huevos rancheros as the bottom was like a crispy tostada. The eggs we found out are made out of mung beans, although they really tasted like eggs. The gravy on the steak tasted like real gravy. Overall we were very impressed and can see why they have won so many awards. And especially with such a big menu, if we lived nearby, we would be coming here more often. We took our friends from San Diego here for Saturday breakfast (one plant-based eater, one not), and they loved it. Cute classic diner vibe, plenty of seating. When I was not a vegan in the past, I used to order nachos from Alberto's/Alertos/Sabrosada in OC, Ca. This used to be my favorite restaurant but ever since the new owners took over the quality and service went down. I went when they first reopened and they brought me the wrong dish. The waitress came by three times asking how the food was and each time, I said I didn't know because they still hadn't brought out my correct meal. She was kind and I don't blame her for the kitchens mistake. I've gone a few times since then and every time the food has been mid and overpriced. Now that they are no longer fully vegan I will never return. I loved the mural of animals they had but now it feels like such a slap in the face to vegans and to the animals.
