What a nice place. We were greeted when we entered and told that the store donates proceeds to local charities and uses volunteers. There were craft items, especially a wide selection of embroidery thread. In addition to craft items, there are a lot of gift items. Some of the items included puzzles, toys, cards, books, coasters, jewelry and more. It would be a nice place to get a gift for someone. There sign says they offer classes which might be worth checking out. There was a wide selection of cards for all occasions. Super cool store ! I was recommended it because it's crafty and they had a huge selection of needlepoint options, threads, embroidery, and a gift selection area. They also offer classes and finishing options. I was very impressed with their options. The store part was very great and they had great local and Arizona themed gifts for all ages. read more

Wow! This place was such a joy to visit. My focus is primarily needlework, so I spent most of my time in those areas of the shop. If I had had more time that morning, I would have meandered through the beautiful and appealing gift and toy sections. This shop has a fantastic selection of new items, too. I loved the wide selection of high-quality threads, canvases and accessories. It was a such a delight to visit this place because the volunteers were so welcoming, kind and helpful. I was amazed by all the different/useful things that I saw related to the craft of needlework. Their book selection was excellent! The fact that this is a 501(c)(3) corporation made the experience all the more sweet. I ended up buying more than I thought I would, but that is a good thing! And after learning more about all the meaningful grants that this shop supports, I plan to make a donation this year. See you the next time I am in Tucson! read more

So, So helpful! I have been in 3 different days for help with my needlepoint project and all the (volunteer!) staff have been great. Knowledgeable, friendly, and of course, helpful. Fiber artists will appreciate The West for silk, cotton, rayon and wool threads for embellishing their work. They also have hand died floss, pearl cotton threads and small pieces of hand died wool in a variety of colors! What a treat to browse through this shop. The store is fairly small but completely packed with the most wonderful goodies. First, I think it is mainly stuff for craftspeople. Like lots of stuff for needle pointing with canvasses as well. I believe they offer classes. . They are so unique and the best part is that it is non profit. No sales tax. Stuff from crafty folks which allows one to shop for very unique items for gifts as well as for your own home. I bought a couple of place mats that are different from what I have seen at other stores. They have shirts, purses, shoes, jewelry, to name of few of what you might find here. What a Tucson gem! Recently celebrated their 50th year as a non-profit, donating their proceeds to local women's and children's charities. Full service needlework shop and wonderful gifts for all ages and wait there's more! Absolutely the best greeting cards EVER! No sales tax since they are a non-profit so that's like a little built in discount. I've been shopping here for 25 years and have never been disappointed. I drove an hour and 15 minutes to have the opportunity to pick my own threads for a project. I purchased expensive floss, and realized after I'd left I had purchased the wrong color. I went in and asked to exchange it for the correct one - no more than 10 minutes after I'd left --and was told sorry no returns. Yikes I was excited to write this review until I saw the only other review on this store....I can see where perhaps the worker became concerned with this other patron and her drink but who doesn't know most stores are not drink friendly. I understand though, the store is very small and packed with sights to see and the people who work there are a bit older and they are all volunteers. This business is a non profit that supports very good causes around Tucson It is mainly a sewing store specializing in cross stitching which I know nothing about but I have buying their gifts for years and years. I was going to tell others that if you need a unique gift for a special person this is a great place to look! They have wonderful cards and baby items as well as great crafted items that are hard to resitst. I am sorry that lady had a bad experience because that has never happened to me usually it's the opposite, they are so friendly! The store is located in the Whole Foods shopping center and so small you would go right by by check it out, you will be delighted! The other cool thing, the prices are already reasonable but you don't pay sales tax because of the non profit status. Whoever SC is, give them another chance, this store definitely deserves this communities business. read more

Yelp needs to allow negative stars. I was treated so rudely by an employee this morning. This was my first time in the store. I will never return again. It is my mission to tell everyone I know to never support this business. I was looking through the store, browsing the items. Suddenly, I was very aware of someone right behind me, within inches of me. She wasn't saying a word, just inches from my face on my heels. I finally turned around, she stared at me not saying a word. I finally asked her what she needed from me. She refused to speak for a few minutes, while I literally stared at her. I then realize she's an employee. She was not there to welcome me or offer any assistance. She looked me up and down from head to toe and pointed at my drink. She said "you cannot be in here with that, you need to leave." The drink I was holding had a few sips remaining and had a lid on it. I walked out to never step foot near there again. Please spend your money at another business within River Center. This store does not deserve your business. read more

Love this store. Brought my cousin from Vermont and we each got a few things. This store is a charity store and supports several charities. The salespeople are volunteers. The items are very unique. It is a great place to shop for items that are not run of the mill. I just realized I forgot to pick up an item and called the store and they will hold onto it for me until tomorrow. Sad to see such a negative review. This is a nonprofit that supports local charities and all the women who work in the store are volunteers. I am sorry the customer thought it was okay to drink in this beautiful store. Many stores have signs at the door requesting no food or drinks allowed. The West has the BEST needlepoint canvases and threads and many unique gifts. It is a treasure. Just remember to leave your drink at the door and don't miss this shop. read more

Beautiful store! I was very satisfied in the selection of fibers for my project. The staff was extremely helpful, and curtious. I was so pleased to find a variety of patterns, and styles available. I have always loved visiting and shopping at The West! I feel bad for the lady that had a bad experience- please give them another chance! The volunteers are friendly, helpful, funny, and have always treated me with warmth and kindness. I have been shopping at the West for many years, even before moving to Tucson. They have great needlework supplies, beautiful wool, distinctive and unique gifts, and wonderful items for kids of all ages. And they have donated a million or more dollars to local charities.
