My first time here, was invited to join some friends, was treated so poorly for no reason I'm aware of, one of the people in our group spilled a drink and admitted it, but for some reason instead of penalizing him the bartender decided to take it out on my daughter, me and her.husband, after over 15 mins of no service went up to the bar to order drinks and after requesting 3 different drinks and being told he didn't know how to make them I gave up, he then proceeded to tell me we needed to leave, not sure why as we were not being unruly or anything, no yelling no fighting, sad to say but the only thing I can think of is that my daughter is of mixed race and her husband is white, maybe the bartender didn't like that and decided early on he wasn't going to serve us, honestly that is the only thing I can think of, we really were not doing wrong but coming in to have a good evening. read more

I'm rarely in Olympia but when I am and there is a good game on TV, I love coming here because of the neighborhood bar feel. There are a good amount of TVs surrounding you so you can definitely catch whatever game you want. An additional star given because the owner supports the same sports team I do. When I came today there were 23 beers on tap and even a screen that showed them all! It was nice and convenient. The menu is easy to read and prices are fair. Entrees range $9+. Happy hour is also available 3-6pm and certain appetizer and beers are also cheaper. My go to place is usually buffalo wild wings for sports games but I'm always disappointed in the high prices for the mediocre food. That is why I love westside tavern though. The food is comparable and fair but quality is great. I always get the crispy chicken salad and leave full and happy. For 10.99 you get plenty of crispy chicken pieces, beans, corn, and the perfect ratio of honey mustard dressing. My bf usually gets the hamburger and I can see why it is award winning because the patty is always juicy, soft and delicious. There are so many great sounding menu items though that I always regret getting the same thing. The service can be a bit slow when the bar gets busier too. Overall though I would recommend coming here to watch a game if you're around town, or just stop by for some great food and beers. read more

We went to Westside Tavern for a late dinner on Saturday night. We arrived at 9 pm and ordered by 9:15 when our server came back to our table. The atmosphere started out low key and then progressively got louder and louder. By 10:30 we were looking for our food since it had been over an hour, and we wanted to leave at that point since the drunk chick at the next table kept yelling and talking about how her boyfriend could kick people's assess. Our food finally arrived and it was delicious although we wish that the sliders were flatter because the meat look more like a meatball than meat patty. The fries are especially delicious. They have happy hour all day and all night on Sundays. Would I return? Maybe during the day, for the food. I didn't get to try the deep fried pickles. This is my favorite place to get burgers, ever!!! My bf heard about their award winning burgers from his buddy, so we went to go check them out. It was weird because I've been there a few times, but just to have a drink. The frickles (fried pickles) are the best ones I've ever had. Even my bf liked them and he's not a fried pickle kind of guy ;p They come with Cajun ranch, which goes soooo well with the frickles. The buffalo wings were delicious, but they made them a bit too salty the first time we got them. Still super good. Also the meatiest by far we noticed. They might not have as much variety of burgers as a place like red robin but DAMN it's the patty that makes this burger come to life! Haha. My bf's favorite is the buffalo sauce burger because he's obsessed with that sauce, but so far mine are the simplest ones... Like just the tavern burger or even the mushroom swiss. This is one of my favorite bars in Olympia. The owners are amazing, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the food will never disappoint. I highly recommend the chicken parm sandwich, and believe it or not, they whip up a delicious Brussels sprouts appetizer that is off the charts. One of my favorite times to go to the Westside Tavern is during the Seahawks games. Everyone gets free raffle tickets, and at halftime Dean gives away Seahawk themed prizes. My husband and I started coming here about a year or so ago. The staff are very nice and super efficient, even when they are really busy. They keep a great variety and rotation of craft beer (my fave), but they have a full bar for whatever cocktail you may crave. The burgers.....I don't know what the chef does, but these are the tastiest burgers I've had. And I know it must be a specific recipe and process, because they are consistently delicious EVERY TIME!!! The appetizers are great, too. A few of my favorites are the brussel sprouts and idaho fries, but the just added PICKLE FRIES!!! They are basically fried pickles that are cut in fry shape, but the batter and dipping sauce are amazing!!!!! We really love this place. read more

A friend and I went in during happy hour. The server gave us happy hour menus and I pointed to one that was priced 5 dollars and asked which ones they were he told me it was any of the ones on the taps along the wall. Ok cool, so I had two thinking they were $5.00 (because that's what the menu said and the server confirmed. Just want to make that clear). I get my check and they say $6.50. So I say this check is wrong those are $5.00. He tells me that they changed the prices a few days ago and so the menus are wrong. Ummm...anyone else see what's wrong here...? It was only a few dollars but the fact is that I feel uncomfortable going to a business that doesn't bill correctly and honor the prices on their menu. I was one of the 5 middle aged women who came in for lunch on Saturday. The bartender/waitress was very rude, as well as several patrons! We asked for menus and never received them. We didn't cause a problem, just politely asked for menus and was looking forward to trying the fish tacos. The waitress was blatantly rude, and ignored us. We left quietly and two patrons, obviously her friends, clapped and said "bye Karen", "bye bitch ". We went else where and had a great lunch. I tipped $15!! Wow!! The food here was amazing!! Definitely recommend their mac and cheese and I highly recommend crumbling the corn bread with the pepper jelly over the mac. The sauce makes it top notch. Quite possibly the best mac and cheese I've ever had. Philly cheese steak was also great, not the best ever but definitely delicious. The new Westside Tavern is a product of hard work, vision and creativity. One of those awesome places that manages to combine everything you would love about your neighborhood dive bar with contemporary ambiance and great food. From what I understand the new owners have put in lot of time and love into reinventing the Westside Tavern. A slick cherry wood bar, new pool tables, a digital jukebox, which offers something for every music taste, and it doesn't stop there! Redesigned patio with solid tiled tables for your libations and space heaters for enjoyment of outdoors even on chilly days and nights. Add some hipster/punk/biker photography and you have a spot equally deserving of young, old and everything in between. Naturally, the crowed was very eclectic. From local regulars to Seattle hipsters to random out of town patrons everyone was having a good time. Now on to the menu. I would classify this as bar gourmet. Unpretentious, simple and delicious: - Portobella Fries: Holy monkey these were awesome! I am not a huge fan of fried food but I couldn't get enough of these. Perfectly crispy outside and tender juicy mushroom flesh on the inside. Also, if you love Sweet Potato fries, these guys do them justice! - Great mix of sliders: everything from all American version, to ahi tuna, to caprese, to Kobe beef. But le piece de resistance for me were the Buffalo chicken sliders with tender grilled chicken, tangy hot sauce and blue cheese. Your mama can't make them this good. - Soups, dips, nachos and burgers are also available, and these guys make everything in house, even the dipping sauces. Just stay away from anything that sounds a lady wearing an alligator purse and mink coattails would order. (Stick to the old fashioned good stuff, essentially). I was there last night to celebrate the TAG event thrown by Rely Local, Community Values and Sign A Rama and was it a good time! Apparently, this tavern has gone through a lot of changes and is NO LONGER the hole it use to be! SWEET! So I'll review the food since, well, that's what I do. Holy Moly are the sliders good. Seriously good bar food. They are exactly what good bar food should be. Greasy, messy, damn tasty and perfect for soaking up some alcohol (even though I know there exists little proof that grease actually does that). I personally enjoy sliders more than regular burgers for the same reason I love dim sum. They exist as delicious little bites that don't fill you up just so you can have more. Your palate does not go numb and you don't feel stupidly stuffed from gorging yourself. I'll name off three which made my toes wiggle.. **All american slider - standard with delicious moo meat, cheese, pickles, mustard and ketchup. **Buffalo Chicken sliders - Clucker meat, spicy and zangy sauce and bleu cheese ** Hidden Meatball - Mystery meat, red sauce and melty mozz. We use to be regular customers and hadn't been here for quite a while, we live out of town. What happened? First was the change in ordering food and drinks at the bar. Boo! We ordered nachos, when they arrived they weren't even warm at all and the chicken was cold, no pico either. We sent them back (something we rarely have done). We were brought new hot nachos, but they sure weren't as good as we remembered. The whole time we were there tables were not being bussed, 2 sat dirty the whole time we were there. Others sat for long periods dirty. There was only 1 person behind the bar and she seemed overwhelmed. We were so very disappointed, we will not be back. read more

We came here over the weekend and had a fantastic time! The place was packed! We had the sliders and they were great, and the fries we awesome as well (I do love me some fries!) The drinks were strong and decent price, about $4 for a drink. The staff was attentive and friendly, and they have an awesome juke box with anything my little heart might possibly desire! Food's been good, service has been good as well. Was contacted by the owners and they were very open to the criticism, and obviously took it very seriously. I've since tried the Mac and Cheese, and it's pretty awesome, and the buffalo chicken sliders are amazing, and as a fried appetizer fanatic, the cordon bleu balls rock my world. That's good enough for me, they clearly care, and that pleases me. It's one of my new lunch spots in town (which Oly seriously lacks) so I'm happy that my experience improved in my future visits. read more

I don't usually get myself down to Olympia but a group of friends and I attended the Grand Opening. I understand from the crowd that this place was a pretty run down dive before. Well the inside had a nice makeover. There was cool photography on the wall of hot tattooed chicks and the bar was very clean. The drinks were strong but not too strong to choke down and the American sliders were perfectly cooked. Juicy and flavorful would be the words I'd describe them. The patio was built really nicely, with booth-like benches and even bolted, stable tables for your drinks. Also, there is a heater for those that enjoy a cigarette every once and a while, but dislike the winter chill. I had a great time and would highly recommend anyone in the neighborhood to check them out. It would be a great place for any start or end of your night. I can't wait to see what other items on the menu tastes like. I can see big things coming from this little bar. read more

There are limited choices for a game of pool on the west side, so let's start with that. Probably the only reason this bar is afloat. First, the sound system is terrible! and they rock it with reckless abandon. We came in after the Seahawks NFC playoff game and they had the AFC playoff blasting at chainsaw decibel level, despite the fact that nobody there gave a shit about the game that was already lost beyond hope. Half of the people there were plugging their ears, and though we asked the barkeep to turn it down, she said she would only once the game was over - so bring ear protection and don't count on having a conversation or even being able to order a beer without professional miming experience. This place has the chilly disregard of hipster Seattle bar, the beer selection of a Dallas dive bar, the atmosphere of a strip joint, and the sound system of a High School PA. If you wanna play pool, walk the extra couple miles to Hanna's and deal with their shitty music, at least the clientele and bartenders know something about what a neighborhood bar should be. The Westside is a bar that makes you glad to be home. read more

Honest, no pretensions, vibrant, a lot of oomph. I love me a bar like this, and if I lived closer to The Westside Tavern, I'd be a frequent flyer. I underestimated it before my first visit, expecting just the usual, basic bar fare. Boy, was I wrong. This is more than just that. I've been able to sample a number of items during the two trips I have made so far, and it's evident a lot of thought went into their menu-planning. First, five words for you: BACON JALAPEÑO MAC AND CHEESE. If you need me to explain further, you're not winning at life. You need this, like yesterday. I'm serious. That's not all, though. The Westside's fish and chips are so good, you'd want to build your next Olympia trip itinerary around them. The second time I was there I had to get two orders of these babies just for myself. Their batter is better than many places I've tried that are supposed to be specializing in fish and chips. The pork belly nachos are also a winner. So are the frickles. And the jalapeño corn cake? Bomb. Bomb all over. There's ample parking, too, and staff members are really cool. Awesome loudness and energy during Seahawks games for sure! It doesn't feel douchey -- it's a really good crowd. If you're a 12 in the area, and this is the type of atmosphere you're looking for, you'd be wrong not to check out The Westside. I went to The Westside Tavern for one reason...and that is because they have a beer on tap that is put out by a local brewery that does not have a tasting room. That brewery would be O-Town Brewing. O-Town is available at several establishments around town. Just before my visit to Westside I was at Northwest Beerwerks where they also had a O-Town beer on tap. At Westside they had two beers on tap from O-Town. One was a dark beer with cognac in it which was delicious as well as another dark beer called the Nightstalker which was rich, smooth and delicious as well! O-Town recently merged with another brewer and a fun named brewery called S&M Brewery in which they continue to brew the best beers between the two brewmasters. I'm so glad Westside had these beers on tap and would go back to see what other O-Town beer they may receive in the future. It helps that the service here was awesome as well! read more
