The Cubano sandwich was my definite favorite, along with Hibiscus Spritz. Had I lived nearby, I'd be coming here for the $17 bottomless mimosas. The place was pretty busy when I got here for brunch, and I sat at the bar, but staff were friendly and they were very accommodating for seating situations as well. They don't serve hard alcohol, but the seltzers, beer on tap, and other drinks are pretty damn good. I love that my food came with two sides. You can pick the side options, I got a soup on this winter day along with some classic tots. I liked that the butternut squash soup was not too creamy and not too salty. Sticking out like a sore thumb in a not quite yet gentrified section of Bushwick, this new gourmet grilled cheese shop has some incredibly delicious food. Once you step in, you get the hipster Brooklyn feel right away, from the decor to the clientele. They employ the Meatball Shop-style ordering system with menus that you mark off with magic marker to pick your selections. We had a good sampling of most of the items, all of which were excellent: - Tater Tots ($4) Great, simple tots with some Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. These were nice and crispy and delicious with the thyme seasoning. - Crispy Fried Brussels Sprouts ($5) These were really incredible, and even better than any that you would get at a fancier restaurant for double the price. In a twist from any others I've had, this rendition had some peas in the mix as well, which added some great flavor. The sprouts were really crispy and delicious. - Roasted Tomato Soup ($5) The staple to order with grilled cheese, this soup was awesome. It was nice and thick, and even thicker with some stringy cheese added on top. This is a must to start and goes really well with the sandwiches. - Morning Wood ($9.50) More than just a cute name, this sandwich is really great. Made with white cheddar, applewood smoked bacon and a fried egg, it's an excellent and satisfying grilled cheese. Greasy, crunchy and fatty, it's got all bases of a great sandwich covered. - Iavarone 1927 ($11) Another delicious grilled cheese, this one had provolone, mozzarella, prosciutto, roasted red peppers and basil on ciabatta bread. It looked similar to the Morning Wood, but it had a very different flavor and is also worth trying. - Charlie Brown ($7) This was an amazing dessert sandwich - melty Nutella and bananas pressed in crispy whole wheat bread with powdered sugar on top and a massive scoop of dense vanilla ice cream on the side. Make sure you save room for this, or get it even if you are full, because it's incredible. They also have shakes and a create your own grilled cheese menu, with additional fillings and toppings, such as short rib, which would make for a great sandwich. The Wheelhouse is amazing and I'm honestly bummed that I lived around the corner for years and never knew about them. These sandwiches are super nuanced and delicious. You really cannot go wrong. Gluten free options too! My only beef is that they're not always consistent about having gluten free bread, which is a huge bummer because that basically eliminates everything in the menu. Also sometimes their live music is a little weird and since the indoor space is pretty small, it's impossible to not make eye contact with the performer...awkward! Should note though that the Wheelhouse was giving away hundreds of meals to hospital workers during the pandemic. Not all heroes wear capes y'all! Support this business!! read more

I cannot believe I witnessed the cook who was supposed to make my shrimp pasta not change her gloves after touching the door handle where she went downstairs to get a pan and other appliances to prepare. Tonight's mood: go to yelp search bar, type in brussel sprouts. I was surprised to see that it was a common search! My fellow sprout people, wya??? You feel me! I ordered on the Yelp EAT24 app for delivery of the 4 cheese grilled cheese with pickle and comes with small side salad, in addition to the Brussel sprouts, and tater tots. Upon arrival: Looked very clean and fresh for delivery - super fast too! Under 30 mins (but I live nearby). Okay, so thankfully, the Brussel sprouts were banging. Probably my favorite part of the order. The glaze was perfectly not too sweet or salty. And the ratio was perfection as well. The Brussel sprouts weren't super fried so I felt like it was still "healthy" night accomplished. However, not gonna lie, the other two parts of the meal.... not exactly my fave! Taters: still arrived slightly warm which is fantastic for delivery, but for some reason there was this slight after taste that wasn't quite right... not sure if it was oil or maybe the grill / gas, but the after taste reminded me of a chemical-like taste. Wasn't too thrilled about that. Grilled cheese: I only saw two cheeses in my Sandwich, and it wasn't really a generous helping. Don't expect a super thick grilled cheese (probably continuing on this "healthy" train haha) - so the actual sandwich was on the thinner side. That kind of skimping for $13 was a little bummer for me. I could be wrong on what I was expecting, but I saw a little cheddar and a little moz and that was it. I would have just ordered the regular Grilled cheese for $9 because that's how much I felt like it should have been. *Extra $1 Pickle bit: I thought the extra pickle I ordered was going to be an on the side type of thing, but they actually put it inside! It didn't bother me that much, but I took them out and had them on the side. I guess it all goes down the same but I know some folk can get a little picky about this! All in all, I have to agree with some people on here- I feel like it was a 3.5/5 for me, but I will have to try some of their other staple items in person next time to give a fair review. Today was my second experience with the Wheelhouse, the first time we ordered online and had the food delivered. It was a solid takeout experience so my guest and I chose to sit down and enjoy the dining experience there as delivery is never as good as food fresh out of the kitchen. The wheelhouse is on the small side, figure 5 tables with a small bar. Wine and beer only. Boylan soda and NYC tap water available. The menu is limited but everything that's there sounds and tastes great. My guest and I sampled the tater tots, solid dish with fresh fried potato goodness....better than the junior high school garbage the lunch lady used to give us. Next up was their Macaroni and cheese which was delicious, creamy cheesy goodness. Both the tots and macaroni and cheese can be ordered with a large selection of toppings, onions, bacon, jalapeños to name a few. Next we sampled the short rib sandwich on toasted bread, delicious.....slow cooked short rib with melted gruyere and sautéed onions....yum The Cuban was slightly less successful but still a very solid rendition. Sandwiches are accompanied by a choice of salad, potato chips or tomato soup. Desserts are available however there was no place to fit it on this day. Our server Peter was a great guy, very personable.....an asset to the restaurant. Happy hour and brunch available. I live only a few blocks from The Wheelhouse and have never stopped in tho check it out. Well today, I decided to give it a shot. I got here at around 6pm (Saturday) and it was pretty empty (although the space itself isn't very big). I sat at the bar and ordered the Cubano with a side of tomato soup. Mouth. Watering. Goodness. I'm getting hungry again just thinking about it. The menu has such a variety and I'm already excited to come back and try some of their other signature sandwiches. The service was also very fast. To drink I got the Maeloc Hard Cider (under the recommendation of the bartender and someone else sitting at the bar). This was also quite good (especially for a non-beer drinker such as myself). This is one of the worst places in Brooklyn. After waiting almost 45 minutes for them to confirm my order via DoorDash (which they never did), I was forced to call the store in order to cancel it. After trying to contact them three separate times, the phone was answered by an extremely rude woman who put me on hold and then hung up on me. I called back, thinking it could've been an accident, and it wasn't picked up. The order STILL isn't cancelled, so they're basically holding my money hostage and I'm genuinely disgusted. These people are at best unprofessional and at worst, thieves. This place should be closed down immediately and I hope it does. I plan on stopping there on my way home to demand my money back. Avoid the 4 cheese grilled cheese unless you enjoy spending $12 on two slices of bread with a light dusting of cheese. I'm not fully convinced they put all 4 cheeses in the sandwich. I was hesitant to try this place since I'm not really a sandwich person, but it's so close to my apartment. I'm glad I finally tried it! It can definitely get pricey depending on what you order, but expected from something that looks so hipster in Bushwick. My first time I ordered the short rib sandwich, which came with a side salad, and the fried brussels sprouts. The short rib sandwich was really good! Who knew short rib would be good with blackberry jam? The jam and the caramelized onions give a great sweetness to balance the short rib and gruyere cheese. The sandwich and side salad are enough to fill me up, but I don't regret getting the fried brussels sprouts because they're really good, too! I've tried recreating them at home, but it's just not the same. The burger melt and Cuban sandwich are good, too, but I think the short rib is my favorite. The tater tots are good, but I don't know if you can ever go wrong with tater tots. I think they're a little expensive ($6) for what you get. Overall, seems like a great place for friends at any time of the day. They've got board games and special events happening on different days, and they're open pretty late if you just want to hang. read more

It's a shame that when I ordered delivery, they left out the salad that's supposed to come with it. I live a hop skip and a jump from here and have been by three or four times since I moved a few months ago. There is a TV (on mute) so my cable-less boyfriend and I like to come grab a beer and a snack and watch football undisturbed by rowdy drunkies. The sandwiches do border on pricey, but they are really big (I can't finish a whole one on my own) and they come with a salad or a cup of tomato soup. Each sandwich I have had was great. The BBQ was a little too salty for me, but it didn't ruin the sandwich or anything. I think my favorite so far is the fish sandwich, but nothing has been a let down. Appetizers are yummy - have had the tots (crispy and delicious) and the broccoli rabe (lemony and delicious). I have a slightly unhealthy obsession with soup. Wow, this place totally does not look like it belongs in this neighborhood at all! My sister and I planned to come here for lunch one weekday that I was off from work and she was visiting. I am SO glad we made the trek - it was really worth it! The interior is welcoming, rustic, and charming. The one man show, with a cook right in view was probably the only downside. It took awhile to get our food, and the server/bartender all in one definitely didn't want to be at work that afternoon because he didnt really have any patience with our questions about the menu. The ordering style is marking up a menu with an erasable marker and giving it to the server. You can make your own creation or order off their pre-made sandwich menu, which is full of amazing things besides just grilled cheeses. We got the Brussels Sprout and Tater Tots, both out of this world, the Iavarone, and a self- designed grilled cheese. The grilled cheeses were toasted and heated perfectly through with amazing flavor, even the crazy one we created. We enjoyed our meal a lot and the prices are decently affordable. How bad could they mess up a sandwich? We went on a Saturday afternoon for a quick lunch. It was a snowy, ugly day so it was pretty quiet. We were immediately greeted from a guy behind the bar who told us to "make ourselves at home". Nice touch. The menu is cool and unique. You check off your meal of choice with an erasable marker directly on the laminated menu. I got the Cuban sandwich with a side salad and a glass of rose.
