Nice and rich. -Banana Cream Pie: The mini size is perfect for 2-3 small servings. Beautiful banana flavor in the custard, great buttery crust. Light whipped cream. I really liked this one. -Ube Haupia Cake: Light ube sponge layers with whipped cream and haupia filling which had a thin jammy like texture. The coconut notes were delicious. My family liked this one as well. The shop and parking: This small bakery is located facing a street in a little strip of businesses on Valley in Alhambra. Parking is free on the street directly in front or on the side street. Service was standard. There were no other customers when I came in on a Friday a bit past noon. I honestly don't know how this place gets five-star reviews. The cake I tried was dry, and the flavor just wasn't spot-on. If you're comparing it to King's Hawaiian cake, this one doesn't come close. I only purchased a slice, so it's possible that the slice had been sitting for a while, but unfortunately, it was dry and tasted far from fresh. If you want people to have a better experience please give away the old slices of cake Based on my experience, I wouldn't order a whole cake from this place. Nice mom and pop store. They have a different variation of cakes. I tried the ube and hojicha. The ube was nice good and moist almost loke a tres leche, you can actually taste the ube. The hojicha needed to taste more hojicha. It taste more like a sweet milk tea. They also sell huge cookies and a good check mix. This wild whisk bakery is a wild whisk bakery indeed! Hidden across the street next to CVS pharmacy on Fremont Avenue and Valley Boulevard lies a small bakery. The service here was 10 out of 10. All the employees and bakers were very nice and sweet when I entered through the door. I got myself a Hawaiian Chocolate Dobash and it had that perfect touch of sweetness to it. Would definitely get that again and recommend it out there to all the chocolate lovers. They have a variety of flavors there and you can get it either as a whole cake or by slice. This bakery is a legit hidden gem in the city of Alhambra. Over the past months I've tried several items from Wild Whisk and have been impressed with their body of work. The Paradise Cake and the Ube Haupia Cake are definitely worth writing home about. The cakes are on the pricier side, but no complaints here. The Ube Haupia is light and flavorful ...you can taste the ube and coconut , w/o the frosting being too sweet or overbearing. We celebrated 2 people's birthday and father's day early and got some cakes here last week. They were delicious, though there were somw mixed reviews about the basque cheesecake. It was awesome that there were some samples to try and that definitely helped in my decision for my daughter's birthday cake in a couple months. For the 2 birthday cakes, we got the rainbow cake and Basque cheesecake. And for father's day we had the banana cream pie. From sampling the available cakes, my favorite is the Vietnamese Tres Leshes and Ube Hopia cake. Instead of the Basque Cheesecake, we should have grabbed the Sesame Basque Cheesecake. The Wild Whisk is a fantastic bakery known for their fusion desserts. Their treats seem to be heavily influenced by Hawaiian and Vietnamese flavors, like their best-selling rainbow cake and Vietnamese coffee tres leches. Their menu is limited but everything I've tried so far has been amazing. 1. Believe it or not, the rainbow cake here is just as phenomenal as the famous paradise cake from Kings Hawaiian in Torrance. That's actually what led me to The Wild Whisk's doorstep - I wanted to find the unique cake someplace closer to home because I refuse to trek all the way out to Torrance again, not when gas prices are what they are now. Anyways, the rainbow cake is an exquisite light chiffon cake with layers of guava, passionfruit, and key lime. The flavors were subtle and in perfect harmony, complemented by the light whipped cream. This is such a unique type of cake that you won't find at most bakeries, so I highly recommend trying it here. 2. I also purchased their ube cake, and it was good but it had a strong coconut flavor - which doesn't usually appeal to me, so I won't be getting this one again. 3. The basque cheesecake was delicious with it's dark caramelized top and rich and creamy center. I love basque cheesecake because I'm not a fan of the usual graham cracker crusts in cheesecake, and I would always forgo that part. With basque cheesecakes, I don't have to! Anyways, all of that to say I've tried alot of different basque cheesecakes and the one here is utter perfection. 4. They also just came out with a seasonal black sesame basque cheesecake, and it was heavenly. It had an enriched nutty flavor and was more subtle in sweetness. 5. My latest bakery find, and I'm SO glad I found it. A friend of mine had gotten us some of the the Furikake Chex Mix, and it tasted really good so I decided to order some cake from here for a gathering. Small little independent business on the west side of Alhambra, the bakery itself had a Western theme, cowboy hats and all. It seemed unusual seeing as it was supposed to be Hawaiian cakes, so I asked one of the owners, and she said it was partly because her husband of Mexican heritage loved the country western culture, the family even wearing cowboy hats & boots! Decor was country western too, hence the "Wild" Whisk! The cakes & furikake chex mix were definitely Hawaiian though!! We ordered the Rainbow Cake, which reminded me of King's Hawaiian's cake, but much lighter & fluffier. It was also made super neat and absolutely beautiful, big hit with our gathering. Also bought a slice of the Ube Haupia, which was very fragrant, light & delicious. The coconut was not at all overwhelming, which was really refreshing...most places have coconut that's too strong and smells "oily". The giant chocolate chip cookies are rich & quite tasty! I've tried a variety of cakes and desserts from here thanks to my manager who brought treats to our staff meeting. For my birthday this year I wanted a Chocolate Dobash Cake. I preordered the week before and also got 6 musubi and a large bag of Hawaiian Chex mix. We parked in the street and walked over. The interior is small with a few tables. Loved the selections here and will definitely be back! I ordered online to schedule for pick up. It was a very easy process! We even ordered extra items while there. Everything I got was delicious and the family loved. We got a tres leches slice, black sesame cheesecake, tamales, cookies, Chex mix, and flan! We saw they had Hawaiian style shaved ice so definitely had to get it for the road. Husband and I devoured it. I'm still thinking about it We were able to get street parking on Valley. Ordered the specialty Ube Huapia cake by phone, due to the larger size the phone order is best. Amazing customer service, the young lady answered all my questions and guided me through options for the best size for my daughter's birthday bash. When I say I'm extremely satisfied with their cake, I mean it. Fresh, light, flavorful with Ube Huapia signature color and flavor and the hint of coconut and its milky buttery sweetness are such a great combination. The cake was beautifully layered and elegant! I would describe wild whisk as having a Hawaiian theme with a Latin flare. Item prices range from $6-$7. What I bought: Hawaiian Chex mix 5/5 Vietnamese coffee tres leches 5/5 Banana cream pie 3/5 My favorite item was the Chex mix, it's sweet, savory, with a Furikake aftertaste. I've already been a fan of Wild Whisk, but they just became my very favorite bakery today because... they now sell my favorite tamales from Tamale Alberto in Echo Park!! I used to live much closer to Echo Park and Alberto was my go-to tamale purveyor. I'd stack frozen tamales in my freezer because my kids love them and could heat them up for breakfast even when they were very young. I live in SGV now so going to Alberto's is a bit of a trek and we don't get to have their tamales often. Well, not anymore! Apparently the owner also loves Alberto's tamales and asked to co-sell them in her bakery. They've been selling these tamales since Christmas... and I just now discovered this! This place is easy to miss! It's near a busy road and sometimes there's no parking in front, but visiting is worth it. I ended up buying a lot of sweets when I visited for the first time. I love furikake chex mix, and theirs is the perfect ratio of sweet and salty (it would be even better if they added some cashews or almonds). Their cookies are chunky, soft, and chewy, but not in a underbaked way. My favorite was the browned butter chocolate chip cookie. I also got a slice of the Ube cake and a banana cream pie. The ube cake was "not too sweet" and had good ube flavor. The banana cream pie had an interesting crust... not sure if I liked it, but the filling was great. I've been wanting to stop by The Wild Whisk for a while. While browsing their website for holiday desserts, I came across their tamales and decided to give them a try. I preordered about 15 tamales for Christmas Day - $3 each when you buy six or more ($3.25 normally). The store is quaint and owners were very nice and helpful. Love that their treats are inspired by their Hawaiian, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Mexican cultures. I usually find tamales to be dry with an uneven filling-to-masa ratio, but these were amazing and a huge hit on Christmas Day. Moist, flavorful, and the perfect ratio. I almost wanted to gatekeep this spot, but they were too good not to share. I also picked up a few dessert slices. The Basque cheesecake was out of this world, and I loved the tropical flavors of the rainbow cake. Glad I don't have make the trek to Torrance when craving paradise cake! I've pre-ordered online from The Wild Whisk a couple of times after a friend brought their Carrot Cake to a holiday party. I loved the carrot cake from the previous bakery in the same location, so I was fairly impressed by the Wild Whisk's. Their Churro Cheesecake was a hit to a holiday party I ordered for (didn't get a picture this time). Hubby & I loved their flan, not too sweet & very creamy consistency, caramel sits at the bottom of the flan. Wish they made it in bigger size. The owner (I believe is Tracy) allowed me and my family to try a good amount of samples, so I can safely say that everything was delicious! I took home the churro cheesecake, guava cake, butter mochi, chocolate chip and walnut cookie, and Hawaiian chex mix. The flavors are inspired by her (Vietnamese-Chinese who grew up in Hawaii) and her husband's (Mexican) cultural background. I highly recommend checking this place out! If you're looking for chocolate, but not overkill this will scratch that itch. The aftertaste of the cake has a subtle bitterness to it, which bae liked. He said it was a chocolate cake for adults lol I did enjoy the cake more with some milk. For how rich this cake was (from the pudding), it felt like 3 people can eat a single slice. The slice was also quite tall, 4 thinnish layers with a slightly rich chocolate pudding. Had to park on the street and take a short walk to the store, no private lot. I love Whole Foods, Porto's & angel maid bakery but this place has moved into my number one slot for this particular cake. I may have never discovered it if it weren't for my friends bringing it over. The cake was perfectly made. It's a three layer cake with the perfect light cream, fluffy cake, and sweet strawberries.
