My absolute favorite pastry chef in town. The business owners are friendly and helpful every time I stop by their pop up at Alhambra park. The service is great, they're good at explaining each item on the menu, while the line gets long it moves fairly quickly. They also accept pre-order on their hotplate site if you don't want to stand in line. My favorites are the lychee rose mochi cake, churro croissant, Chinese broccoli croissant, and their halo halo pie. I've also ordered a birthday cake from Aeriel (lead pastry chef) and my guests loved it. During the holiday season I always order the whole 9" Halo Halo pie and I always get compliments on it. Just happened to stumble upon Crumbs and Flakes as they were doing a pop-up at Mandarin Coffee Stand. Love supporting small businesses and ended up ordering most of the pastries they brought for the day. Paradise danish - awesome danish with a pronounced passion fruit and guava custard on a buttery and flakey danish. this pastry is the reason we are going back to their pop-up this weekend. Garlic Chinese broccoli croissant - awesome savory croissant with a nice garlic flavor with every bite. Asian pear and sweet potato danish - not sure why I was expecting this to be sweet but it was a savory danish. i enjoyed this one as well but it does have a pronounced onion flavor. Ube blueberry and coconut bread - this was good but I thought the blueberry overpowered the ube flavor. Remained moist the next day and paired well with a cup of coffee. Blueberry cornbread rice cake - loved the texture and flavor of this cornbread. wished we ordered 2 of these so that i wouldn't have to fight with the wife for another bite. Ariel is such a great baker and I love visiting the pop up every now and then to see what she is making. We love the Garlic Gai-lan that she bakes and get it whenever we can. There are always some unique items on her list, whether it Danishes, Cakes, Cookies, or Croissants. Price is definitely on the higher side, but that's relatively understandable considering the quality of the baked goods! The location that Ariel sets up in is right next to the Alhambra park, and she usually posts on social media regarding what she will have, so I'd make sure to check there first to see the menu. She and her husband are always very friendly to all their customers and the line, if there is one, moves quickly enough. Such a cute pop up bakery. I went to Amiga Amore on a Saturday at 9am, and was third in line. I got the ube blueberry coconut bread, pork sung and green onion roll, and almond lychee croissant. Everything tasted scrumptious and had a unique flavor profile. I was worried the pastries, in particular the ube bread, would be very sweet but they weren't. The owners were very nice and friendly. With full transparency, I intended to visit another bakery earlier in the day and changed my mind due to it being too crowded. I was selective with my alternative choice as I wanted to visit a bakery with specialty flavors that wasn't overly tiktok flashy, offered more than the classic flavors (butter croissant, pain au chocolat, almond croissant, etc.), and a small business rather than a chain. I know--was it even possible? YES. I recognized Crumbs and Flakes name from the pop ups they do at Mandarin Coffee shop and decided to drop by their weekly Alhambra Park popups. Looking for their tent was very easy, and the customer service was very pleasant and genuine. I got the Plum Pistachio Oat Streusel Danish, Peach Danish, and Braided Fried Churro. My toddler son destroyed the fried churro---it reminded me of a classic churro with more thickness and meaningful flavor, absolutely loved the multiple layers of flavor. The Peach and Plum pistachio danish is a tie for me, as in they were both incredible. Both danishes were not overly sweet, therefore you can truly taste the star of the danish (the fruit) embedded into the flake layers. Flake textures were perfect w/ no dryness or overly buttery. She even has a collab using coffee from Teofilo, a coffee house that specializes in beans sourced from the Philippines. The pastries can be ordered in advance through Instagram. I first discovered this bakery through another Instagram account I follow (Amiga Amore restaurant), and I was glad to find that chef Aeriel has weekend popups in the SGV. If the halo halo pie is available pre order it right away it's seasonal so not offered year round. You won't be disappointed. Also all of their bakery items have French American/Asian spin to it. They are delicious. since it's a small business they offer pre ordering website so you don't have to wait in line at their pop ups. If you're brave enough to take a chance at ordering in line queue you should get there early because if you follow their Instagram they will sell out. So be prepared ahead of time. Just pre order. You don't even have to wait in line just pick up from the side and you're able to go about your business. Literally everything from this bakery is top notch quality. Service is nice but slow, but you know they put care in everything. The only downside is the price. You can pre-order if you want guaranteed items. We came by at around 10,10.30 and some stuff that we wanted were gone. They sell out fast. It will be unfair to not give credit to this hidden gem! There is no physical store (yet!) and there is surely a line formed early Saturday morning to get these photogenic pastries! This is my first pre-order and the process was simple and smooth over Instagram message. I believe the cake flavor will depends on the seasonal fruit. It's hard to judge the look of the cake, but I can see lots and lots of vanilla beans on the cream and that speaks for the dedication to quality. Hands down my favorite place to get quality croissants! I've visited many times and have been able to taste a large variety of the baked sweets. The only downside is that they are open on the weekends, but they are well worth the wait! Below are some items that I have tried: Classic Butter Croissant - super flaky, rich, and airy. Garlic Chinese Broccoli Croissant - this savory approach sounds like the weirdest combination, but the flavors work really well together. Ensaymada Croissant - LOVE this one the most! It's a unique concept of topping a croissant with cheese and sugar (like the traditional ensaymada), and it tastes especially great when toasted. A must try popup selling homemade pastries! The set up is at the park which makes it easy to get to and plenty of street parking. You can't miss the location; they have a tent set up near the cement walkway. The set up was not open for sale until 9 am, but there were already people lining up prior to them opening. The wait is not long and you can pay using venmo. This was my first time visiting the Alhambra Park pop-up and I'm so happy I did! They have various types of pastries from your normal croissants to delicacies like their pistachio jujube. I was able to snag one of their persimmon apple & pecan oat streusel pie and I am so upset that I only got one! From the crust, to the layers of fruit and rhe streusel the pie was so delicious! It may seem pricey ($10 per slice) but it's worth it! I'm usually not a pie person, but they won me over. I bought the pie at 9 AM and didn't get a chance to try it until 6 hours later and it didn't get soggy. The streusel was crispy and not overly sweet. I wish they sold this as a whole pie! I also grabbed their pistachio jujube snail and the pastry was buttery and flakey. Again it wasn't too sweet which allows for you to taste the flavors of the fruit and nuts. If you're a pastry lover, do yourself a favor and check this place out. And come early! They sell out quick. read more

I LOVE small businesses and patronizing them, especially when they put out an excellent product! I'll go out on a limb and say that their Filipino fusion of French pastry is phenomenal. They are such friendly and nice people that their service to their customers are very warming and genuine. Since they have popped up in this little Mexican restaurant, the ambiance is quaint and cozy and extremely unpretentious. The quality of their baked goods are excellent and rivals that of established brick and mortar shops. The GF bibingka was moist and delicious. Given the rave reviews I really wanted to love this place - especially to support a start up small business, but my first experience wasn't great. I pre-ordered online and they got my order wrong. On the plus side, after I brought it to their attention, they promptly refunded me for the missing item, but still disappointing to make the drive and get home only to find something missing. Secondly, the insides of the items were cold - like they had been in the refrigerator. Or maybe the fillings were refrigerated and when they were put into the croissants, they didn't have time to thaw out. Not sure - it was just weird and as a result, didn't feel freshly made. ‍ Overall, the flavor profile was really good though. I guess if we try again, I would just put it in the oven or air fryer before eating to make sure it feels freshly baked. read more

After I ordered and paid I did notice many more guests enter and take a seat. I ordered a few pastries. Pistachio Jujube Snail- 6/10 my first time trying jujube. The flavor was sweet but subtle. This was a bit dry for me and was the texture of a puff pastry cracker. Blueberry Cornbread Bibingka- 10/10 Highly recommend. This was very tasty. Can't really comment on parking or ambience since their location changes, but taste-wise, these are pretty great! I didn't preorder but did arrive early and got to try their: - Ube coconut blueberry muffin - very pretty, mainly tasted like coconut though - Persimmon and pomegranate danish - persimmon didn't really taste like persimmon (I suppose due to the sugaring / preservation process) and there were only about 4 pomegranate seeds atop the danish, so I'm not sure the pomegranate flavor is quite there. It was also one of the last pastries remaining, so didn't seem to sell as well as the others - Ensaymada (cheese and sugar) - quite good! We didn't do this, but were recommended to heat it up real quick in the microwave (just a very short amount of time to melt the cheese and elevate the flavor profile) for an even better experience - Asian pear and Japanese potato danish - really enjoyed this one, but I'm quite biased towards potatoes :') - Halo Halo cream pie - this was alright. Glad to have tried it, but not sure I'd buy again given the price. Didn't really taste like Halo Halo, but did have a really nice crust! - Braided croissant churros - easily everyone's favorite!
