45c shrimp paste and grilled pork vermicelli
    Nina W.

Came here for dinner and there was already a line out the door around 6pm on a Friday night. We had a larger group of 6 and we waited about 15-20min before we got seated. At first we got seated at a booth table that was a bit tight, but later they were nice about moving us to a larger table that had cleared out. We ended up each order one of the vermicelli noodle bowl as that's apparently what' known at this spot as well as the egg rolls. I ended up getting the vermicelli noodle bowl with pork and shrimp paste. The egg rolls were much larger than what I'm used to at most Vietnamese restaurants and it didn't disappoint. Very delicious and crispy especially when you eat it fresh. The vermicelli noodle bowls were also very good and the portion size was much bigger than I expected. Overall had a great meal and it's worth checking out if you don't mind a bit of a wait!

5 stars every dang time! Consistently perfect! Called ordered fried eggrolls and pho combination. Was ready in 20 min walked in it was nearly packed (as always) people waiting for a table probably thought heck that girl was super smart! lol egg roll box had vent cutouts everything separated big bag of fresh veggies, big container of dipping sauce. Pho: noodles/meat, broth, big bag fresh veggies and packs of chili paste, hoisin and siracha. Had leftovers enough for another meal for two' Don't sleep the hype here is the real deal.

One of the great OG of Vietnamese food! For the longest time, this place was the only place I'd go for pho. Plus, they still have one of the best fried egg rolls I had ever tried! If you are visiting for the first time or passing through for a break, this place is definitely worthy checking out.

Eight of us for dinner. The service was quick and very good. The food was really good. I had ribeye and brisket pho and it was delicious. Sorry I don't know what was on the combo plates, the spring rolls were very good, and the five I forgot fried something with scrumptious. First time here and we will come back when we're in the area.

Golden Deli serves delicious pho, egg rolls, spring rolls, rice plates, and other Vietnamese dishes. I've only dined in a few times because it's always crowded and usually has a long wait, so I typically order my food to go. I enjoy both the combination pho and the chicken pho. The broth is rich and flavorful, and their egg rolls are also very good. On my last visit, I ordered a rice plate with pork chop, egg rolls, and shrimp paste. The dish was tasty. The pork chop was well seasoned and tender. They included two egg rolls and two pieces of shrimp paste, which I thought was generous. I just wish the pork chop portion had been a little larger. The rice was also delicious and had a buttery flavor. The meal was enough for two people to share. Prices are a bit higher compared to other pho restaurants, but the food quality is consistently good. Customer service was great. I placed my order online, and it was ready when I arrived.

5/17/26 This place has some of the best spring rolls I ever had. Went here with my wife on a Sunday around 1:30pm. Estimated wait was 30-45 minutes. And ended up around 30. The line was managed well and we were seated after that.the restaurant is nice inside with decent seating. What surprised me most was the size and quality of true spring rolls. They were definitely the standout of this place. We also ordered pho #1 and #10. The broth tasted clean with not much additives. That being said, i found it also on the blander side. Overall. We would go back if in the area. But wouldn't go out of our way just for it.

Had dinner with my husband and son while in the area. My husband was craving pho so I found them on Yelp while in the area. It had good reviews so we came. The wait list was closed on Yelp so we had to sign in at the restaurant. It took 25 minutes to get a table on a busy Sunday evening ( around 5pm) The service was friendly and fast. Our food came out within ten minutes. It took us longer to decide what to order lol .... The pho was good. We got the beef one and enjoyed it much. The rolls were my most favorite. So delicous. The sandwich was pretty good but I wouldn't recommend the beef stir fry we got. Dry and no falvor, beef and onions over plain rice. Small portion. Other than that everything else we enjoyed. The ambiance is cool, small but nice everyone enjoying their food.

My all-time favorite Vietnamese restaurant and the staff working there are very friendly too. I started off with their regular fried egg rolls and they were filled to the brim, nice and crunchy and so much flavor. Then I ordered a bowl of PHO with shrimp and added barbecue pork as well and it was delicious. I even ordered a Bahn Mi to go for a friend of mine can't wait to return.

We came by around 11:30a on a Friday and came upon the recommendation of a good friend. They were fairly busy but thankfully, we got seated quickly. Our server was prompt at taking our orders as well. Out of the three dishes, both the bahnmi and egg rolls were stellar. I want to state that both were the best I've eaten! The bahnmi bread was so good, the beef portions so generous and the taste, delicious! The egg rolls were also so crunchy and filling. The pho was well-rounded/decent; this is just a preference but I'm used to more soup and less noodle in my pho. One star is taken off because of the restaurant facility- it is not conducive to families with children. The space inside is tight and often, I thought I'd bump into someone if I leaned back a tad too far. We also brought our newborn and there was barely space to park our stroller. There is no changing station in the restroom either. I'd definitely like to come back for the food but would have to think twice about it before I recommend to friends with little babies-

We arrived shortly after they opened and soon after we ordered, the restaurant filled up and there was a line out the door. That was a good sign. Food arrived quickly and service was prompt. Food was good and prices were fair. Restaurant had a friendly atmosphere and the only downside for an always busy restaurant is that there is only one bathroom.

I've been coming here for years. This is one of those locations that always has a line out the door. It's highly recommended to come here before the rush if you don't like to wait, or order take out instead. The restaurant itself is pretty small inside but probably has about 10-15 tables. Despite the small size of the restaurant, the good news is the high turnover. The food comes out so fast and it's like every patron/customer knows to sit down, order, eat, and get out ASAP lol The parking lot is also pretty small when factoring in Golden Deli and the other businesses in that plaza. Overall, it is a nightmare to park here. Take your chance and you may find a spot, however you'll likely have to stalk people to their car. Street parking is an option though. The main reason for coming here are their egg rolls. I don't know what type of love they put into it but it's the best egg roll i know. They probably deep fry these things in fat or something! I always get an appetizer of just egg rolls but luckily, they also have a lot of entrees that come with a side of their egg rolls. Either way, you won't be disappointed.

This review is long overdue but Golden Deli is THE Vietnamese food spot whenever I'm in the area. From their pho to com tám, they are just solid across the board. Lots of different pho options, but usually just go simple and get the pho tai. Broth is flavorful and meat is tender. I've never had to do this, but you can also request leaner cut beef and lighter broth as well. If I'm not feeling pho, I'm also a fan of the bun rieu. Love the savory broth coupled with all the vegetables and tomatoes. Menu is huge though so theres something for everyone. If we're feeling extra hungry, we'll also order a side of egg rolls which are just made to perfection. The size per egg rolls is huge and they make them incredibly crispy. Also comes with assortment of vegetables like lettuce and cucumbers where you can make a little egg roll salad wrap. There's also an option to include egg rolls with your rice dish sort of like a combo too if you don't want a full side order. This place can get crowded. It's super popular and the lot isn't super huge. You can put down your name on the iPad and front and they'll text you when your table is ready. The turnover of the tables is pretty quick though.

Visited Golden Deli recently, which is a San Gabriel Valley institution for Vietnamese food. Ordered the Pho Dac Biet, which is a large combination pho that has ribeye, brisket, tendon and tripe. I thought this was more on the solid than spectacular side. The noodles were good, the meat was solid, but the broth was a bit bland and could have used more flavor. The good thing is that it wasn't too heavy. Also ordered the fried pork egg rolls, which are almost always impossible to mess up at a Vietnamese spot. Spring rolls were good as well. Service here is of the typical Asian variety, as you have to flag someone down to get their attention. But they do move very quickly to fulfill your requests. As expected with such a popular place, there can be a bit of a line. They do use Yelp waitlist, but it was closed on the app so we had to check in at the restaurant. I can see why this place is an institution. Obviously better pho elsewhere, but this definitely gets the job done!

Golden Deli San Gabriel Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Golden Deli San Gabriel

Are they open right now? On Yelp said closed/special hours. I been looking the past couple days. Hours said closed but next day you checked it said open 10am-8am. I am so confused!

Before the holidays, Golden Deli had signs in the restaurant saying it would be closed from mid-December through early January. I don't know the date they'll return; I came here to see if someone posted the dates.

I love anything with rice noodles and Vietnamese flavors, but I unfortunately developed physical allergies to gluten and MSG. Are there any (if so, which) menu items that can be made without MSG and gluten (wheat/flour, soy sauce, etc.)?

The staff is incredibly helpful - I would check with them and see what dishes are able to be made GF.

Do their egg rolls have shrimp or is it just pork?

    Hi, only pork

Does golden deli have a drive thru. I swear ive seen one?

Nope. They most definitely do not have one at this location which is a squeezed tight strip mall lot.

Do you have any outdoor seating amid the pandemic?

    No outdoor seating

Are they open for dine in now?

Yes, but they are off from 10/1 to 10/15, will reopen at 10/16......

Is Golden Deli open on Thanksgiving day?

Doubt it but call them. If not, go tomorrow ;)

When you order takeout are the noodles for the pho cooked or can we request for them to be uncooked so I can cook them at home to prevent them from clumping together?

I always request it uncooked for that very reason. They are always more than happy to accommodate.

Any word on when you might open for dine-in again? It's been a long time, and a big bowl of your Pho Tai would REALLY hit the spot!

With how cases are rising we cannot determine the time on when we will reopen for dine-in. We will continue with take out for the time being

Are you offering crib side pick up and online orders, similar to STONEFIRE grill?

Due to high volumes of orders and setup we do not provide curbside pickup, our temple city location, is the closest thing to it. It is facing the street, you can pull up, but you still need to get out and pay at the front entrance

I know dine-in is prohibited now but are you guys closed for takeouts?

nobody there to take orders. The restaurant is dark now.

Does the chicken pho have bones in it?

    Yes the chicken is deboned.

Does anyone know why they're temporary close?

At certain times of the year they close for two weeks for vacation.

Is something going on at the restaurant right now? I've called multiple times to place a pick up order and no one is answering.

They're closed for the whole month of October, but will reopen November 1st.

How many people can sit in your Restaurant?

You can probably fit a party of 8 to 10 but the lines are always so long... I imagine you would have a hard time fitting a large party.

Is this place closed? New address?

They close for 3-4weeks every year for vacation, usually at the end of Summer this year it was October. They are back open now.

Is there a minimum to use credit cards?

Even if there is. The minimum usually is $10, surely you'll order more than that.

    Is it still cash only?

    We take card as well

Do they sell party trays and how far in advanced do i have to give them?

Yes they do, you'll have to call for additional information about when the order will be ready

Since they apparently sell cupcakes, do they do anything for birthdays?

I think you can call and try to arrange something but as they are very popular and seem to always be trying to turn a table, I wish you luck. I have noticed that availability of cupcakes is hit or miss

Soup and tendon can be a bit salty on its own but when you add the soup with the noodles, the noodles soak up the flavor very well and the soup mellows out. Still on the heavier side of flavor for me but I can tell it's a very good, flavorful soup. Tendon was very soft. My husband ordered D1 and the regular beef was soft and had a good, evenly distributed flavor throughout the meat. Husband said he did not find the noodle soup salty and he's also on the lighter side of flavor profile like me. Beef roll: ordered this since the pics on yelp showed them rolled very evenly with filling. A little expensive, it could be a meal price, but the amount could also be a meal. Beef roll came looking exactly like what I saw in pics; good amount of filling and rolled evenly. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be crispy on the outside since I ordered take out but it could be crispier. I'll prob air fry later for a later meal. Crispness was the only con, the beef roll was very good! The beef isn't dry and tough, good amount of sauce for flavor. Would definitely recommend. Overall, beef noodle soup and beef roll were excellent. Already recommended the place to my sister. Be warned, ordered around opening time (Saturday) and when I went to pick up, the place was already full within the first hour of opening.

The restaurant was filled with families, or parties of one to two people. The menu was very good, there is a window looking into the kitchen, where you see a person making the hand pulled noodles. It was just as fun seeing the guy hand pull noodles as watching the people making fresh noodles at the restaurant near Nordstroms at the Westfield Mall in Arcadia. The weather was hot, so we opted for cold noodles, ordering the Shanghainese style noodles with chili sauce, and the Dan Dan noodles with sliced cucumbers. Two of us shared the two separate bowls of noodles, they were both very tasty. We used the vinegar in the bottle on the table to add more zest in the noodles. Parking is rather difficult, but there was no waiting for a table. We had initially put our names down for our favorite restaurant across the street, P P Pop Restaurant, which had an over half-an-hour wait time. The fresh noodles had a nice and bouncy texture, you could tell that the noodles were made the same day. The sauces were quite delicious, I liked the Sichuan noodles sauce, but my friend said they were too spicy for her. The Dan Dan noodles were just right, and both bowls were devoured in no time. On a Saturday evening, my husband and I decided to grab dinner here. Because we parked in the shared parking lot, we entered the restaurant through the back. We were immediately greeted upon entering. After being seated and looking over the menu, we ended up ordering: Fish Tofu Congee, $10.50 prior to tax- This meal truly nourished my soul because I was really sick a few days before and hardly ate anything. The congee was nice and hot and thick, just the way I like it. Portion wise, this is perfect for 2- 3 people to share. But again because I had not eaten much for the last few days, I ended up eating most of it (lol, had not realized how hungry I was until I was eating this). My husband did enjoy this congee too. Beef Stew Noodle Soup, $14.95 prior to tax- My husband ordered this dish and thought the soup was flavorful and the noodles had a nice chew. I also liked this dish and thought it was delicious. My husband finished most of this dish. ------------------------------ (Total= $28.10 after tax, prior to tip) Service was friendly. And because the restaurant is on the small side, it was very easy to get a server's attention if you needed something. Although I did speak mostly Cantonese when I was here (I am actually trying to make myself speak Cantonese more), you can order in English. So you shouldn't have any trouble when you dine here. Overall, coming to The Congee was the right choice for dinner and so glad we did. I do see myself coming back here for another meal in the near future. Please note that there is a unisex restaurant towards the back of the restaurant, right next to the back entrance/ exit. The restroom itself had all the basic essentials (running water, toilet paper, paper towels and soap) but wasn't the cleanest. It was decent at best.

The dish featured four generously sized shrimp wontons, all amply filled with shrimp. I did sample the noodles, but unfortunately, I was too satiated to fully appreciate them. The Zhajiangmian is good although you can get better bowls in the SGV. The noodles are thick and tender like their other hand-pulled noodles. The minced pork, cubed potatoes, and julienned cucumbers coat the noodles in a dark savory, and sweet sauce. Dining Area: The dining room is large with over a dozen tables. Parking: The long strip mall has a lot with many spots.

It's simple what they do well here, they make darn good food that tastes like homemade food (healthy and delicious), they price everything on the menu very reasonably (especially in these crazy times), and they treat all their customers like family/neighbors. Now that I've given you the why, let's move on to the good food. We usually order the beef noodle soup because of how tender the meat is and the soup & noodles are just perfect comfort food. And we always pair it with veggies (garlic cucumbers or water spinach) and pork dumplings are also amazing. Almost any of their braised meat rice/noodles are just really good (popular ones are braised pork rice or braised chicken leg rice). Interior space is also very roomy and comfortable for big groups or cozy meals Parking is pretty easy since they have a lot in their back entrance and they used to let you park underground as well but the building's new management started closing the gates at 6pm because they're just sad and unfriendly human beings lol but luckily the surrounding area has many places to park.

This restaurant is difficult to get parking because it is located inside a small plaza on the corner of Valley and Garfield. Fortunately, I found a parking space there. The restaurant is not particularly large, But there are many customers dining there. We ordered Garlic Cucumber, Braised Pork Rice, Garlic Water Spinach, Braised Beef Noodles, Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs, Garlic Beef Cubes, and two Thai Milk Teas. I'm able to speak with the owner, who informs me that this restaurant does not use MSG or other ingredients. Everything is fresh and healthy. After tasting the food and the Braised Beef Noodles, I can tell it's really tasty and light, with no harsh components that make you thirsty and want to drink more water. So far, my family and I have really enjoyed the food here. Definitely will return and try other delicious foods next time.
