Golden Deli has been my favorite restaurant in the SGV for years. It's a small family run Vietnamese restaurant that's been around since the '80s, and it's easy to see why it's always busy. If you're in the SGV or surrounding areas this place is a must try!!! The restaurant is small but busy, it's lined with booths and shared tables. Nothing fancy, the food is the reason why people come. The staff is friendly, fast and keeps everything running smoothly. The menu is huge, the portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. I've never had a bad meal here. My favorites are the pork chop over rice, the beef banh mi and tom thit kho with dry egg noodles and broth on the side. Everyone loves the pho here but I haven't gotten around to trying it. The crispy egg rolls pair well with everything. Make sure to wrap them in lettuce and dip them in nuoc cham and you'll see why they're a must try. No reservations so expect a wait. Get there early to avoid the long line. They're open everyday from 10am to 8pm, except Wednesdays. Parking in the shopping center can be tough but there is plenty of street parking nearby. It's crazy to me how Golden Deli used to be the OG place for pho but after exploring more mom and pop pho places, I'm realizing that it's not as good as it actually was. I recently ordered a chicken pho and it was laden with msg. I feel like I was drinking 3x more water than I usually did and felt so thirsty the whole day after. Portion was pretty small. Im no expert on Vietnamese food, but the egg rolls here can't be beaten. Super crispy outside, generously filled and paired with a delicious dipping sauce I was hooked instantly. The pork chop didn't disappoint either. Also super crispy, but tender and juicy. It was plated over white rice and cucumbers which brought the whole dish together beautifully. The Pho was good, but the broth was milder than I expected. Definitely not the best I've had. Servers were laidback and friendly. Came here for dinner and there was already a line out the door around 6pm on a Friday night. We had a larger group of 6 and we waited about 15-20min before we got seated. At first we got seated at a booth table that was a bit tight, but later they were nice about moving us to a larger table that had cleared out. We ended up each order one of the vermicelli noodle bowl as that's apparently what' known at this spot as well as the egg rolls. I ended up getting the vermicelli noodle bowl with pork and shrimp paste. The egg rolls were much larger than what I'm used to at most Vietnamese restaurants and it didn't disappoint. Very delicious and crispy especially when you eat it fresh. The vermicelli noodle bowls were also very good and the portion size was much bigger than I expected. The soup is okay, but the meat just isn't up to par, and the noodles felt so average. Had dinner with my husband and son while in the area. My husband was craving pho so I found them on Yelp while in the area. It had good reviews so we came. The wait list was closed on Yelp so we had to sign in at the restaurant. It took 25 minutes to get a table on a busy Sunday evening ( around 5pm) The service was friendly and fast. Our food came out within ten minutes. It took us longer to decide what to order lol .... The pho was good. We got the beef one and enjoyed it much. The rolls were my most favorite. So delicous. I started off with their regular fried egg rolls and they were filled to the brim, nice and crunchy and so much flavor. We came by around 11:30a on a Friday and came upon the recommendation of a good friend. They were fairly busy but thankfully, we got seated quickly. Our server was prompt at taking our orders as well. Out of the three dishes, both the bahnmi and egg rolls were stellar. I want to state that both were the best I've eaten! The bahnmi bread was so good, the beef portions so generous and the taste, delicious! The egg rolls were also so crunchy and filling. The pho was well-rounded/decent; this is just a preference but I'm used to more soup and less noodle in my pho. One star is taken off because of the restaurant facility- it is not conducive to families with children. The space inside is tight and often, I thought I'd bump into someone if I leaned back a tad too far. We also brought our newborn and there was barely space to park our stroller. I've been coming here for years. This is one of those locations that always has a line out the door. It's highly recommended to come here before the rush if you don't like to wait, or order take out instead. The restaurant itself is pretty small inside but probably has about 10-15 tables. Despite the small size of the restaurant, the good news is the high turnover. The food comes out so fast and it's like every patron/customer knows to sit down, order, eat, and get out ASAP lol The parking lot is also pretty small when factoring in Golden Deli and the other businesses in that plaza. Overall, it is a nightmare to park here. Take your chance and you may find a spot, however you'll likely have to stalk people to their car. Street parking is an option though. The main reason for coming here are their egg rolls. I don't know what type of love they put into it but it's the best egg roll i know. They probably deep fry these things in fat or something! This review is long overdue but Golden Deli is THE Vietnamese food spot whenever I'm in the area. From their pho to com tám, they are just solid across the board. Lots of different pho options, but usually just go simple and get the pho tai. Broth is flavorful and meat is tender. I've never had to do this, but you can also request leaner cut beef and lighter broth as well. If I'm not feeling pho, I'm also a fan of the bun rieu. Love the savory broth coupled with all the vegetables and tomatoes. Menu is huge though so theres something for everyone. If we're feeling extra hungry, we'll also order a side of egg rolls which are just made to perfection. The size per egg rolls is huge and they make them incredibly crispy. Also comes with assortment of vegetables like lettuce and cucumbers where you can make a little egg roll salad wrap. There's also an option to include egg rolls with your rice dish sort of like a combo too if you don't want a full side order. This place can get crowded. It's super popular and the lot isn't super huge. You can put down your name on the iPad and front and they'll text you when your table is ready. I thought this was more on the solid than spectacular side. The noodles were good, the meat was solid, but the broth was a bit bland and could have used more flavor. The good thing is that it wasn't too heavy. Also ordered the fried pork egg rolls, which are almost always impossible to mess up at a Vietnamese spot. Spring rolls were good as well. Service here is of the typical Asian variety, as you have to flag someone down to get their attention. But they do move very quickly to fulfill your requests. As expected with such a popular place, there can be a bit of a line. They do use Yelp waitlist, but it was closed on the app so we had to check in at the restaurant. I remember this place as being the best pho in the area with lines always around before being able to sit inside and enjoy great pho and egg rolls. I bought a friend over to try it since he only ever had pho at 2-3 places just so he can do a comparison. Great things: freshness and customer service is definitely up way above average, even more so given the area. They are constantly asking how you are doing, if you needed anything, and any feedback. However, I can't look beyond the fact I remember this broth being amazing, but it seemed more watery than I remembered. I suspect that perhaps they passed down the reins to the children? The egg rolls were still hot, huge, and filling. I like that they gave all the side vegetables including the rarer floral one (perilla, tia to) and hot mint (rau ram). I used to come to Golden Deli in San Gabriel all the time years ago, so I was really looking forward to revisiting an old favorite. Unfortunately, my recent visit was pretty disappointing. First off, the wait is still as long as ever--30 to 40 minutes for Saturday lunch--and the plaza was unbelievably crowded. We couldn't find parking anywhere in the lot and had to park out on the street. The restaurant is super packed and the tables barely have any room to walk in between. We the place is not big and they do try to cram a lot of seats in. It was really cramped in our booth as well. Food-wise, it was a mixed bag. The beef combo pho was decent and the broth still had that classic, comforting flavor I remembered. But the pho ga was a letdown--the chicken was very dry and the soup base just didn't have much flavor. We also ordered spring rolls, which tasted old and dry, definitely not the fresh, vibrant rolls I used to love here. Another small but frustrating detail: there's only one single-occupancy restroom, and it always seems to be occupied. Not ideal when the restaurant is this busy. On a Saturday morning in early March, my sister and I came here to eat egg rolls and pho. We arrived when the restaurant opened 10am and some of tables were filled. We sat in the booth and we ordered egg rolls and beef brisket pho. The egg rolls were nicely fried and big in size. I took a bite and the egg rolls hit the spot. I've tried many Golden Deli dishes in my time. After going about a variety of items, I stick with what they do best - EGGROLLS. Go for any dish that will contain their eggrolls. My dish of choice lately is the vermicelli (bun noodles) with 1 protein (eggrolls)! Also they aren't one to use shrimp or crab like other places in their eggrolls, which is awesome for my partner who just developed a shellfish allergy as an adult!! Pro tip: move the eggrolls over to a side dish so you can appropriately dip and eat and they don't get soggy with your nuoc cam. Pro tip 2: if you get your food togo, I air fry the eggrolls again at 360 F for 2-3 mins to recrisp --- To be truthful, I am not a loyalist to any other dish but their eggrolls. That's why I visit them. They have an extensive menu but their pho, bun rieu, bun bo hue, hu tieu - etc are lacking compared to others you can try. I find their broths lack depth, savoriness, and flavor. But, you can also tell it tastes healthier in salt content, smaller in portion size to avoid overeating, and can tell fresh ingredients are used. But it's not the reason I'd ever go eat there. Additionally, their charbroiled meats have also been very dry lately so I've also avoided getting those protein options. Other spots do that much better. Regardless, this restaurant is an SGV mainstay and their egg rolls remain their star item of all time. Depending when you go, it can get quick busy but the staff is always friendly. The menu is quite vast with lots of categories of Vietnamese classics. This is my 2nd time eating at Golden Deli. I was craving pho so I ordered one for pick up through Doordash. Heads up that the Doordash price for beef pho (choose 1 meat) is $16.68. $2 more than the beef pho in their menu when dining in. A decent sized plaza with free parking but it's always super packed and parking is tight. Luckily there are alot of residential parking street parking. There was a long line outside Golden Deli on a Sunday afternoon. Not much friendly service here, but my order was packed nicely in a sealed paper carry bag. Utensils, napkins and sriracha and hoisin sauce were included. I did feel that they were skimping out on the veggies/herbs and only gave a small slice of lime. Besides that, the pho definitely tastes better when you dine in, in my opinion.
