We signed up for the 8/2/25 Rose & Croquet advertising chilled Rose , The Wiley Bar, Swimming pool, tea sandwiches, pastries, none of this existed except Croquet but the lawn wasn't mowed so this also was a disaster, the Winery blamed the event people guess they should have mowed the winery lawn also. Great day trip excursion. I have nothing but good things to say about Williamsburg Winery - decent wines, beautiful grounds, and excellent service. Since our trip was a bit last-minute, we did not have an opportunity to tour the winery. *Maybe next time.* For our tasting pleasure we went with the Virginia Sampler Flight and the Reserve Flight (I might be a bit off with the names of the flights). Many of the selections from the flights were not my cup of tea (technically, glass of wine ) because they were a bit too sweet for my liking. That said, I did enjoy the 2017 Adagio from the Reserve Flight. The prices for the 4-wine sampler flight were $17-24, which is a pretty good deal. Also, the flights come with a souvenir glass. Our host (short blond-haired woman) was pretty awesome especially bc the winery was short-staffed. Actually, I appreciated her letting us know that service would be delayed. One tip: if you want to tip your server/host (at least in the outside pavilion), bring cash to vineyard. Unfortunately, you cannot add a tip to any charges on your card and there isn't an ATM on the grounds. read more

Wonderful atmosphere with so much to offer. On the premises, there is a gorgeous tasting room, a tavern and an outdoor bar area with live music. We started in the tasting room where we enjoyed flights and then moved over to the outdoor area, where we enjoyed some wine with a view and listened to the live music. We didn't get a chance to experience the tavern, but did buy some cheese and crackers in the store and brought it over to the tasting room to enjoy. Love that they have this option! A wine tasting at the Williamsburg Winery was included in our romantic getaway weekend last weekend. We snuck over after lunch at the nearby Gabriel Archer Tavern and had a pleasant experience. A friendly gal told us to choose our own table and then she came and took our order for the flights we wanted to try. I chose a sweet flight (I don't really drink wine or alcohol at all) and my fiancee chose the reserve flights with the fancier red wines. Our flights, and glasses, were out quickly and we had a good time tasting and comparing the wines enjoying the day. After the tasting we shopped the gift shop and found several cute items. Some of the wines are a bit pricey, but we were able to select two bottles and a few goodies to take as keepsakes from our trip. A few friends from work have had weddings here and they are absolutely beautiful so this is a great venue for that as well. They have both indoor and outdoor tastings during nice weather. read more

We walked from the Gabriel Archer Tavern (actually just crossed the street) to the on site winery. The hostess was super nice and helpful. There were several things you could choose from; several different flights, wine by the glass, or by the bottle. We chose the Wessex Hundred flight with the estate wines. Three whites and one red. All three whites were very nice, but the red in the flight (Petit Verdot) was really good. We chose to sit on the enclosed porch looking out over some of the winery. We were having a nice afternoon at the winery when I attempted to climb the stairs into the building to use the rest room. Unfortunately, there was NO RAILING for the stairs -- I got to the top step (of 3 or 4), lost my balance and fell backward since there was NO RAILING to grab. Fortunately for me (not for her so much), I fell onto my sister and did not hit my head on the sidewalk. I was not hurt but my sister fractured her wrist. We looked around as we left and NONE of the steps had RAILINGS! HOW IS THIS COMPLIANT WITH ADA Regs?? We will not return (the wine was just OK) because of this MAJOR safety concern. We went to the main tasting room which was at the winery itself (not the tasting room in Colonial). It's very spacious and enjoyable to sit outside on the patio when it's nice. There is a long driveway that will lead you up to the winery from the main road. Once there, there were many cars already there but still ample amount of parking on a Sunday afternoon. Went up to the giftshop area to ask about the tastings and the nice guy told us we could do indoor of outdoor. We chose outdoor so we went to the patio and sat ourselves down and waited for our server. Waited a little bit before she finally came over and when we finally ordered. I asked her about the sweet wine flight that was listed but decided to not go for that b/c they didnt seem too sweet (I like it diabetic sweet). I decided to go for the MidSummer's Night White after consulting our server. My friend had gone for the sweets flight since she never had a flight before. The MidSummer's Nite was not very sweet, more like an chardonnay, was light so it was ok but I did miss the sweetness. I asked our server what was sweetest on menu and she mentioned the Raspberry dessert wine so I went with that. My friend had thought the Traminette & the MidSummer's Nite were similar, and they were, Traminette was even less sweet than the MidSummer's Nite. Her 2nd to last, the rose, was def a bump up to sweetness, and of course the raspberry dessert wine to top it all off, which she enjoyed. The raspberry dessert wine was the best, and at a whopping $16 a glass it needs to be! We stayed there and listened to the music & sunbathed on the patio for about an hour and a 1/2 to 2 hours. We then closed out our tab and made out way to use the facilities. Can I add here that our server was just like 3 "days" old which is why it prob took a bit longer to serve us but she was a delight. The inside tasting room was beautiful an very spacious. The facilities were clean and very spacey. The gift shop had some cute chochkies too. The winery itself is a solid 5 stars but I only gave it 4 bc I felt like they could have more of a variety when it comes to the sweets. Great indoor and outdoor seating options. The indoor seating is up some pretty steep stairs but cute little set up otherwise. I went with the Rose Flight: Brut Rose 2017 - sparkling and pretty good but just a tad too dry for me. Wessex Hundred Dry Rose 2020 - really light to drink and quite tasty. A little dry but a good wine overall. Semi-Dry Rose 2019 - a little darker in color than the first 2 and I actually prefer it to the first two. It is less dry and great body. Castle Hill Rose Cider 2020 - doesn't taste as sweet as it smells. Actually kind of smells like an apple juice. This is a hard cider with elderberry and cherry which you do get a little bit of. Splurge of the moment visit for 3 friends who enjoy wine! Beautiful location and I love how they kept the colonial looks of things. After parking, it was a bit confusing on where exactly to walk as there are things to the left and the right. To the left is where the restaurant, tasting area, and little store are. Thankfully we got here at a reasonable time & with a small party of 3, so we were able to find a place to sit on the 2nd floor. Not much seating and I wouldn't suggest coming with too many people. The employees were super helpful. We decided on 3 different flights so we could essentially try all the wine! I'm not a huge wine connoisseur, but I was happy to have liked quite a few of the wines from our flights. Brought our own food to feast on and took great pics. We recently visited the winery for our wedding anniversary. We did the full winery tour and I'm so glad we did! It was a little over two hours long and it was by far the best winery tour I've done. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and we actually took home some gems that we hadn't learned at other wineries! Our tour began out in the beautiful vineyard and ended in the nice cool cellar area for the tastings. We really enjoyed sitting at the family style table at the end of the tour. We had an assortment of beautiful cheeses and crackers with the wine along with excellent company! Our group was fantastic and with a little help of wine we all loosened up and laughed so much! We had such a good time that we actually made friends on the tour that we are now in touch with. After the tour we had lunch onsite at the Gabriel Tavern. I HIGHLY recommend having a meal there! Excellent service, delicious food and a relaxed atmosphere. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Every ingredient was fresh and you could definitely taste the difference. Pricing was very fair for lunch considering the quality. I would love to revisit this winery and bring family and friends to enjoy the property for the weekend. My next trip will definitely include a stay in their inn so there's time to really enjoy everything they have to offer. read more

I feel like I cannot give an accurate review of here. I was invited to attend a quarterly wine club party. My friend had to come up here to pick up her wine. The staff was very nice. There was plenty of samples of different little food dishes but they were cold... And there was different wines to try. I'm going to get four stars because it was organized well and everyone was nice. It was very packed though. I did not like the wine options that were available which is why I just gave four stars. Definitely worth a stop. The ambiance was nice in a colonial type room with local artists work on the walls. The service was prompt, consistent and good although I prefer to actually stand at a bar with someone pouring my wine and explaining how they're made instead of sitting at a table with a flight and a poor write up on each wine only giving me tasting notes instead of informing me how it was aged and processed. But the wines were all good, we didn't have any we didn't like and between me and my two friends, we tried 3 flights allowing us to try many different wines. I will say that these flights which are all white, all red or all sweet really bug me because I like to try all three and so I really wish wineries would offer a well rounded tasting option for those of us who enjoy all wines. They don't offer food which is a definite minus in my book, only a fridge with some wrapped cheeses and meats, no charcuterie trays or appetizers although there is a Tavern on premises it was closed when we were tasting wines. (The tavern closed at 4 on a Thursday??? Pretty poor when you're right beside a winery open until 6). I recommend but go when the tavern is open so you can enjoy some food with your wine. read more

I just came in to have one glass of wine. The employee made excellent wine suggestions, after talking to her about my taste in wine. I ended up getting another glass of another wine that I thought was also an excellent choice for my for my taste. My friends and I had a really nice time here, they're by far bigger wine buffs than I am! I found the grounds expansive, but not much was going on during a blustery Saturday afternoon in December. I'm sure this place is lovely in the summer and stuff when things are growing and green. The place was clean, no trash or debris on the grounds or inside. There's several big areas inside to eat/drink and a pavilion outside to drink and do wine flights. They offer several wine flights and they all come with a wine glass. The waitress with the red hair was so lovely and helpful. She was super nice and knew lots about the wine. The pavilion area outside is great, the inner area and 2nd tier was pretty windy, the area outside was great with lots of chairs, umbrellas, and heaters. I met a nice kitty, he was kinda skinny and had mats in his tail. The waitress said he was the nicest of the barn cats who helps eat any pests in the vineyard and stuff. read more

This is the perfect venue for outdoor concerts and when Ingrid Michaelson came here for a show, we were blown away! Not only is the winery itself beautiful and the wine is superb, but the concert set up was organized and comfortable. Parking is the main snafu on the premises... good luck with that. The food and beverage kiosks rocked as much as the concert did! Great choices at expected higher prices, but well worth shelling out a few bucks for good food and drink! Stopped in for a quick visit as we were waiting for the time for our dinner reservations down the road. We were seated in the outdoor area of one of the Pavillions. This was a very busy place on a Saturday afternoon. When you drive in, you drive by a portion of the vineyard where the grapes are growing. There is a parking lot with a field for overflow parking. The Pavillion area has an outdoor area, a grass area and a covered area. I think that there is indoor seating in another building but I am not 100% sure of that. We had two great waitresses that were very nice and attentive. We did a white wine flight and we also had a glass of Virginia Merlot and a glass of Governor's white. The Governor's white was very good.. a little sweet but not to much. The bottle is only 10.50. We bought two to take home. This is probably the flagship white. When you pay your check, they charge you and do not give you the option to add a tip. So, be sure and leave a tip! read more

Great wine, friendly staff, I'd advise that if you're traveling with a service dog, beware because they are discriminatory. A employee asked for paperwork for my service animal upon arrival and after being corrected by another employee that I didn't need it, they backtracked on that and then stated we needed my dog to have a service vest on. Through the ADA, service dogs do not need a service vest, and while it's not required that I disclose my disability, I was about to, but they were adamant that it's a federal law that my dog have a service vest on. Anyone who has trained their animals to provide them a service towards their disability knows this is not a necessity or required. It doesn't affect my dog's ability to provide me support when I am sick. Disappointed in their lack of knowledge, considering Wedmore Place was more than accommodating to us and my dog. read more

While on vacation in Williamsburg came upon the Williamsburg Winery Merchants Square Tasting Room. It was just an doorway entrance with a staircase going to their upstairs tasting room. Upon entering the room's décor was setup with hardwood floors, a bar on the left, wine barrels with cutouts for bottles of wine with tables and chairs beautifully decorated with everything you would see in a Wine Tasting Room. There were several wine tasting options reasonably priced to the type of wines. I choose the All White Wines Flight which consisted the 2017 Virginia Viognier, 2017 Virginia Stainless Steel Chardonnay, 2017 Governor's White and the 2017 Virginia Sauvignon Blanc. I ordered at the bar, sat down and the waiter brought the four wines with a description of each. Each glass had a generous amount for a wine tasting. They were all pretty good. I liked the Virginia Viognier and the Sauvignon Blanc the best. I usually like Chardonnay the best but this one had too much of a steel taste for me. Everyone has a different pallet when it comes to wine. The wines, service and atmosphere made it all a great experience with a buzz. I would definitely return if in the area again. read more

I visited the tasting room in Colonial Williamsburg. It's a small room on the 2nd floor in the shopping area. It's cute and cozy. The menu is extensive and the prices range depending on the wine you want to try. I love dry reds so that was the majority of my tasting. I selected the Rose, 2017 Reserve Petit Verdot, 2017 Wessex Cabernet Franc, and 2017 Virginia Cabernet Franc. I loved the Cab Francs the best. Full-bodied and bold. The Rose was decent, but not a favorite. The overall experience was ok. The two people working there didn't appear overly chatty. I tried to engaged them and ask a few questions about the winery and the wines and got short answers. So I took a seat in the back and enjoyed the wines solo. In terms of VA wineries, Williamsburg is one of the heavy-hitters. They have a great venue, excellent assortment of wine, and even have a hotel & restaurant. You'll likely be paying dearly for the best wines (which may not be on the tasting menu) but I was more than happy with what I had. At 40,000 cases a year (40 acres under vine, plus some grapes are brought in from California or Washington state) they are a BIG producer. The wines made from local grapes tend to be light on tannins (for reds) or heavy on the minerals (for whites). Several tasting options are available; I teamed up with a friend so we can try the maximum possible: Sav blanc: honeydew taste; went well with a seafood lunch. Chardonnay (American oak): very light and fresh tasting. "Midsummer" white: Semi dry, tasting creamy with a butterscotch nose Governor's White (Riesling): Washington grapes I think; very nice. Claret: Nicely balanced red blend. Petit Verdot: Early, not especially heavy. Adagio: Excellent (and expensive) red blend, really big mouthfeel. Gabrielle Archer: Very well balanced red Moscotto desert wine: Too sweet for me, but not bad.= read more
