My friend and I have been miniature golfing in the Capital District for years and only heard about this place recently from my wife. With a name like "Wind Chill Factory"... who would connect that to golf? Perhaps it is a reference to the nearby airport? Anyway, my friend and I arrived one Saturday afternoon to find an antique car show going on at the place. It was packed with cars though we found nearby parking. A local band was playing and they were, umm, entertaining. The golf was reasonably priced ($12) and we were soon on our way. Oddly, the golf putters seemed odd in proportion and the shaft joined the head at a strange angle which made me feel like I was hitting the ball wrong. Also, the holes were immaculate (yay!) but some were brutally tough. One hole in particular was essentially a straight shot up a hill to rest at a small level patch of green around the hole. My friend and I EACH took 9 shots to get it to the top. He spent 9 getting it just to the top, only to have it roll down to the starting tee. I spent 9 shots generally hitting the rocks along the sides, only to have to roll down to the starting tee. That's 18 actual shots, not including penalty strokes when the ball rolled back off the tee. It was super frustrating. Other holes also relied on hills/swells to add to the challenge but weren't as tough. I would rather get stumped trying to hit the ball through a small tunnel in a windmill or snake it along a waterway, not get punished for constantly misjudging a hill with little room for error. Beyond that, we had fun. My friend said is was the best local course he played. I had a good time too, but I wouldn't go that far. Most of the holes felt a bit uninspired. But at least there was no nonsense with balls not dropping into the cups at this course. The ice cream flavors available were good, and the chocolate peanut butter cup was an excellent way to end the afternoon. PS: My wife and 4Y old son came along and it was the first time he played mini golf. He seemed to have a good time too. read more

We came here for ice cream. For the ice cream alone, this would be 3 stars. But with the food (we didn't order any, but it looked really good), the outdoor area, and the mini-golf course, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The ice cream was okay. It's limited to about a dozen flavors between hard and soft. The hard ice cream flavors (we got hard ice cream this time) were more traditional, the soft ice cream flavors were more creative and interesting. Prices were about the same for similar sizes, though, but $4 and change for a small dish seemed slightly above average compared to the same amount elsewhere. Then again, there's nothing else that close to this place with whom to be competitive. Spoons aren't available here unless you order ice cream. The spoons are plastic, looking more like they're designed for iced tea or milkshakes, with long, slender, flimsy handles, and only teaspoon-sized for scooping. That's fine for a shake or soft ice cream, but they were a bit too flimsy for digging into hard ice cream. The flavors could have been a little stronger too, though the stuff in the special flavors (e.g., the Moose Tracks), made up for it. This is a fine place to go if you're looking for a meal with ice cream, or mini-golf plus food or drink. Then again, there's nothing else like it for many miles in any direction. read more

I love a mom and pop ice cream shop with great service and gigantic servings. We both ordered small twist with extra rainbow sprinkles and our server committed to the bit. Not only did she cover the ice cream, she gave me an extra cup of sprinkles! We also played mini golf and the course is very well manicured and a great level of challenge. I appreciated that it had real obstacles (versus just flat pictures of them). I would definitely come back here if I was in the area again! read more

A great place to visit for a summer treat and fun. It has mini-golf, serves food and ice cream and has a playground for kids to enjoy. Kids loved playing outside on park equipment. Picnic tables outside. Friendly service - took their time to make sure order was correct, even though line was long. Separate line for ice cream which is efficient. Hamburger was nothing special, a little greasy. Wish they would have asked me if I wanted bun toasted because whatever they used to coat the bun was yuck to me. I would have declined. Shrimp plate was delicious. Hotdogs looked just ok and came with lots of delicious fries. Ice cream was awesome. Tried the coffee mixed with chocolate (?) mmmmm. I would go back. read more

The Wind Chill Factory used to be Mr. Bill's. I believe that they are now owned by a couple. They don't have as many ice cream flavors as some other places. However they do also have grill items on their menu, made to order. They have seating outside and they also have a small mini golf area which is always fun! I tried their soft serve maple vanilla stacked with blue raspberry. Both flavors were tasty but a little on the sweeter side. Still good in my opinion but perhaps a bit less creamy. Its a cute establishment if you are looking for a bite and or a goodie! read more

Windchill is a takeout window serving soft and hard as well as grilled items like hotdogs and hamburgers. The windchill factory used to be Mr. Bill's. New ownership has cut back the number of soft ice cream flavors to only a few. The menu consists of mostly grilled items. I don't think they smoke BBQ anymore. They also removed the playground. I mostly view changes as a downgrade. One place they did improve was resurfacing the mini golf courts that needed updating badly. read more

I have been here many times and I have had fun every time. The golf and food are really good. They have many flavors of ice cream. They are a bit low on service and don't have a lot of staff. They have a very nice family welcome environment. The time it takes to get golf and food is worth the wait. read more

Ordered burgers , fries and onion rings - dripping ( not lying!) , did I say dripping - in grease ? Over done and gross . Then , the burger were very pink ( fine for some but ordered well done for the kids and came back very pink) and only ate around the outside. I wanted to have a fun day with my granddaughter and saw this business with food, ice-cream and mini golf. The high points are the hand cut fries and onion rings. The low points started out with a frozen Pretzel and cheese. I watched my 11 year old granddaughter trying to break a piece of Pretzel off as I watched the salt mush away. When I went to help I was shocked to feel ice. The girl said she would( bring) me out a new Pretzel. From the window she yelled your Pretzel is ready. My boyfriend and I decided to take a drive and check out the new Wind-Chill, and we loved it! The food was delicious with hardly any wait, the mini golf course is very well taken care of and so much fun. The ice cream comes in generous sizes and so delicious, everything reasonably priced. We went here to go miniature golfing and also decided to grab something to eat while we were here because it was available and figured we'd give it a shot. I wasn't too happy with the food it was unfortunately very greasy and did not sit well with my stomach but that's probably because it's more of a fried food type of venue. The miniature golf course was okay, they should definitely think about rebuilding their corners because the ball keeps popping off the course which takes time away from the game which then bottles necks people and then turns into this big traffic jam and then there's certain people who will skip holes because they don't feel like waiting and it just makes for a very hurryed experience. Instead of feeling relaxed while you're playing it feels like you're being rushed all the time to try to hurry and finish the hole. Overall though we did have a good time and I would definitely recommend that you go check it out it's a good time for just to get out and have time away and I thank you for listening. read more

The mini golf is clean, and fun, although the design of some holes are virtually impossible to make par at all, you are there for fun, it's not real golf! Lol. I recently moved here and was excited to explore places close to my new home. I have been here once before and had ice cream. It was good. Decided to bring my daughter here for dinner. She order the fish fry sandwich and a side of onion rings. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Both came on a regular hamburger roll. (nothing special). My pulled pork was saturated with too much bbq sauce. My bun was a soggy mess. There was just a small portion too. The pulled pork was chewy and not eatable. My daughters fish sandwich was mostly breading saturated in cooking oil. Not eatable. The onion rings, very saturated in cooking oil and dripped out oil with when you bite into it. When I attempted to let them know that the $20 on the sandwiches were not eatable and ruined our appetites. They wanted to make the same crap all over again. They tried to correct me and my perception of their food. They didn't know what to do. So I had to wait for them to call their main office. Finally they decided to give me a gift certificate for $20 instead of returning my hard earned money. The servers were extremely polite and apologetic. I will never eat food here again. Ice cream yes. In today's world, you can't charge those prices and put out awful poor quality food. I hope the the owners read this and see how they can improve. read more
