We have been to Nathan's a few times and have always had a nice experience. We went for Thanksgiving dinner this year and it was outstanding. They were offering a turkey dinner plate but we all decided to have other things. Our server was attentive and friendly. The food was great. The pacing of the meal was nice. We began with cocktails, appetizers, then progressed to salads and the entree dishes. Our server did a great job of bringing things out at just the right time, kept the glasses filled, and was overall cheerful throughout. This is not an unusual circumstance. The service is always very good. The restaurant is a little small but doesn't feel crowded. The view and scenery over the water is very nice. The food is fresh and nicely prepared. It's a little pricey but it is worth it for what you get. Highly recommended. This is one of the places that I direct out-of-town visitors to. read more

Had a lovely lunch with my grandparents today! They sat us in the side room with the windows that look out at the bayou which was beautiful, but it did get quite echo-y and loud in there as everyone was talking. Our server was incredible. She had a perfect pace with checking on us and always kept our drinks full! Everyone loved the food. The Soup du Jour of crab and shrimp bisque was rich and flavorful. I love that all of our meals came with a side salad. I got the Bayou Pork lunch which was DELICIOUS and a giant serving size. My grandparents enjoyed their chicken florentine and chicken piccata as well. We didn't have any room for dessert. I highly recommend Nathan's! Lunch was decently affordable as well, so you get the atmosphere, service, and quality without dinner prices-- and beautiful daylight coming through the windows. Thank you! I will say that the restaurant is on the second floor from the parking lot. The elevator was confusing and seemingly not working? So my grandma had to take the stairs. Once again Nathan's came through! We had a party of 10 and didn't lack a thing. We had a private room and wonderful service. The food was amazing. I order the ribeye and it was cooked to perfection. We were EXTREMELY IMPRESSED with our dining experience. We had fried eggplant and spinach dip for appetizers, Caesar salad, Trout Almandine, Ribeye Special and spaghetti and meatballs. Hidden gem ! * Slidell has many spots to catch some good, non-chain, local cuisine. This one, is a diamond of a find. Situated right on the waterway to the marina and boats right out of the window's view, visual is not all this place offers. We ordered the Bacon Scallops and the Seared Ahi Tuna. Delish! You immediately get the chef inspired touches on flavour and plate presentation. Scallops were perfectly soft & easily cut with a fork but not rubbery. Tuna has a great peppered/seasoned crust with a perfect medium rare inside. We ordered Shrimp Remoulade salads boils and fried but forgot a picture on that!! Sorry, but it was great as well. Stopped in just to have a drink and watch a little bit of football. I had already had dinner but was considering a bit of dessert. Hung out in the bar but looked at a very impressive menu with some intriguing combinations. Definitely coming back here for a meal. The bar was not overflowing with choices - but all the main players were there with good representation in every category (bourbon, whiskey, vodka, gin, etc). Bartender was Andy and clearly knew what he was doing. The bar overlooks Bayou Bonfouca and has a nice outdoor deck that would be great in a slightly warmer evening! Tried the Key Lime pie which was simple, but very nicely done. Great first impression. Looking forward to coming back for a full evening. Return Visit - 8th May 2018 Came to meet some of the out of town Rels for dinner - and enjoyed a Parmesan Crusted Speckled Trout. It was nicely done, certainly AND it wouldn't have hurt to have a just a little bit more going on with the seasoning. I realize you can please everyone. Just a little too middle of the road for me. Service was the worst I've ever experienced. My food was wrong, my daughter's never came until after we were finished. The server was non existent. Couldn't find her at all throughout the meal service. I asked for the manager, but apparently there was none on site. Another server, who was quite friendly, but over whelmed herself, tried her best to assist our server. I was looking forward to this dinner because I heard great things, but I'll never go back. Honestly incredibly disappointing. We made plans to have this food placed as a to go order for our business, when no one answered the phone. Even then, having decided to drive to the restaurant and place this order, I couldn't find a restaurant employee until I walked around the restaurant to find someone. This is at 11:15, 15 minutes after they're supposed to be open. When I asked if I could please place a to go order, she said "we won't be fulfilling to go orders because we are short staffed." Does that even make sense? Definitely not, considering the place was totally empty. The staff member that I did speak to was on her cell phone, and unwilling to help in any way. I've been here a few times over the years. Each time the food was MEH, at best. The service is usually good. I ordered the Seafood Manicotti, and it is was horrible!!! Gross!!! The dish arrived in a huge bowl. Manicotti in a bowl? Anyway, I had what appeared to be two (barely visible) pasta rolls SWIMMING in a light brown "lobster sauce." When I say swimming, I mean it looked like a bowl of soup. The dish had been sitting so long under a heat lamp that the "sauce" had gotten a gelatinous film on the top layer and started to brown. There was NO sign of ricotta cheese anywhere in the dish. Spinach, Artichoke, and crab meat were non-existent as well. The only thing in the "lobster sauce" soup was a few shrimp, and those were as tough as rubber. That's what I got for $21 dollars: a couple of no-bake pasta sheets wrapped around about 6 shrimp, swimming in a cream sauce that tasted a week old. It was disgusting. I don't know how this place stays in business. A few other people at our table got some other dishes.... most looked terrible. A few looked okay: -Someone at our table got the Eggplant Napoleon, it was so dry and terrible. They didn't even put sauce on it and the pasta under it was barely tossed with the sauce. That person was highly disappointed. -Another guest got the Trout Christopher with Mash potatoes instead of the bordelaise. She enjoyed her meal. -The lasagna looked ok The lady who was waiting on us was really great. But the food.... NO. I won't be back. read more

Since moving back to South Louisiana a few weeks ago I have been trying all the local restaurants as well as the chains. Slidell is located on the northeast shore of Lake Pontchartrain and is now my new home. We are very social and eat out quite a bit (more so now because our furniture still hasn't made it down yet). Nathan's was one we had not tried yet so we stopped in last night. We were asked if we had reservations and I was about to be disappointed if we were turned away but we were told not an issue and were seated. Our go to drink is the Long Island Ice Tea and since moving back NONE of the restaurants we tried so far made them worth a flip, however the ones we received here were EXCELLENT! The bartender here knows their craft. Not too much sweet and sour which is a turn off and makes it nasty. We always have a few drinks before we order taking in the atmosphere. The restaurant is situated next to the scenic Bonfouca Bayou which makes for fantastic scenery and of course atmosphere. We told our server that we drink a few before ordering and she (wish I could recall her name) left us to our conversation being unobtrusive until she noticed we needed new drinks. AGAIN EXCELLENT! The staff here are extremely professional and know their craft. We finally ordered and it was a difficult choice because the menu items and descriptions make everything so appealing. We judge a restaurant by not only its drinks but by how they serve a filet. Trust me when I say not all restaurants can prepare a filet properly. Most serve cuts that have gristle and/or fat and to me that is not a proper filet. However the filet we had at Nathan's melted in my mouth. I ordered it medium and it was PERFECT! Not since the early 90s at a Westbank French restaurant Berdou's have one had a steak literally melt in my mouth. I was so happy I could have cried. The rest of the food grilled asparagus and baked potato were great...I don't really recall because I was so ecstatic about the filet. I also had a glass of merlot with my steak and their house merlot paired perfectly complimenting the taste and texture of the cut of meat. Needless to say this is my new favorite place in Slidell EVER and I will be back many more times. Just wish I would have thought about taking some pictures. read more

Very formal dining room with white tablecloths - and prices to match. The Tues-Thurs dinner specials and the 2-for-1 lunch special for $15 appear to be good deals but the $14 flavorless fish almondine with overcooked green beans was not worth it nor was the similarly priced "blackened fish tacos" which were actually a single large flour tortilla wrapped around fish, cabbage, and lots of cheese and served like a burrito. Too much cheese and tortilla overpowered everything - and the dish was clearly not "tacos" as the menu had stated which immediately sends a bad message. When the highlight of the meal is an above average salad it's never a good sign. For a $45 lunch including tax & tip, this place just didn't cut it and I will certainly not return for dinner - I know business is tough but restaurants that charge high prices for marginal quality can't be surprised when customers don't return. read more

We went to Nathan's to celebrate 2 birthdays. This time, both meals were positively awful. Very unlike the norm for Nathan's. My friend ordered the Italian sampler. The chicken Parma was burned, the lasagna was fair, and the other unidentifiable item looked like vomit and neither of us would even try it. I ordered the shrimp Alfredo. The shrimp were so badly overcooked that they were very crunchy. The pasta was also overcooked and was terribly mushy and there wasn't enough sauce as the pasta absorbed it all. The waitress said she would take it all back, but my friend is extremely low key and doesn't like to make waves. The meals went in the garbage. read more

Got a gift card for this place so decided to try it out! I liked the thought of sitting on an upper porch balcony right next to the bayou. My boyfriend and I started out with a couple appetizers (everything sounded good lol). We got the bacon scallops and the crab stuffed mushrooms. Both were really tasty although I didn't taste the crab. We also got a cup of the chicken and sausage gumbo and that was very good and favorable! I would get that and the scallops again. For our entrees we got the trout almandine that came with a side of snap peas and the oyster platter that came with their fries and Texas toast. Both were really good (don't usually care for toast though). For an oyster platter you'd think you would get more then 8 oysters but they were very good! Really liked their fries too. For dessert, we got the creme brûlée and the chocolate lava cake. They were both pretty good although I've had much better creme brûlée so I don't get it again from here. The lava cake was a little too sweet for me but thats just my taste. I can say that we will be returning! read more
