I went here to get a wedding ring because they seem to have not just a run-of-the-mill selection. When I saw the ring that I liked the owner and his partner or co-worker both agreed that the ring fit and they said so. A few months later I got married and one day while taking a shower the ring fell off. I went back to the store to get the ring resized; the owner wanted to charge me $300. I went home and thought about... Why do I have to pay if he told me it fit? I decided to speak to him about it when I went to pick it up. I told him that he had previously told me that the ring was a good fit. His response was that he gave me a good deal on the ring. Does that make sense? I mean, maybe he did give me a good deal but what does that have to do with the part where you told me the ring fit even though it didn't? The other part that bothered me was when he told me the charge was $399... What happened to the $300?? When I questioned this, he said the cost of gold had gone up. Two questions: 1. Gold went up 33% in the last four weeks? 2. What does the price of gold have to do with downsizing a ring? To me, integrity is everything. I won't be shopping here again. read more

Being as I grew up in LG and live here now, I've been in and out of this store for decades. I'd always been treated politely before. I have some jewelry from my late mother that I've been bringing around to various jewelers in the area to get evaluated. Every one has been polite in explaining to me the differences in gold, silver and costume jewelry. Until yesterday. I went in early since I had a question on a set (necklace, bracelet and earrings) and didn't want to be there when they were busy. Mom always liked them too & I thought she'd said she'd had Dad buy her that set from Yellow Brick Road. I told one gentleman that I wanted it appraised. He said "Gary, I'm sorry to bother you but I need you out here." Bother? Wait. Did he just imply me and my question were a bother? Gary made it clear to me that it wasn't fine jewelry and he'd never have sold such a thing. Wow. Ok, sorry I BOTHERED you. Beware and Dishonest! I brought a small chain in and two tiny gold "stars" to convert into pierced earrings for xmas gifts my daughter. I told the repair guy (not Gary) that I only wanted to pay about $40 each for "repair". He took the items and gave me a claim check. He called the next day to tell me they were done. I asked him on the phone the cost of repair and he replied that , "he did not know". Red flag #1. Went into store to pick up repairs and saw repair prices and was pretty stunned given my years of jewelry experience. For a 1.5 inch extension chain that was paper thin gold Gary was trying to charge me $140! I quickly took the short piece of extension off and told him I did not have $140 to pay for that. On the star earrings, the pierced piece he added was not attractive at all and he again was charging me $130 for tiny baby studs that goes through the ear that I can buy for $20 elsewhere. I kindly asked him to please just give me back my stars and my original gold chain and he refused. Instead, Gary quickly grabbed the pieces and moved them behind the counter and said. "if you pay for my work, I'll return your pieces". It took Gary exactly 5 minutes to put the stars on a pierced or post earring as he did that while I waited. And no time to add an extension on my necklace as he used a tiny clasp. My friend Colette witnessed how long it took Gary to place the posts on the tiny stars and confirmed it took only 5 minutes. Gary's attitude and behavior suddenly declined into a threatening caged animal. The fact that Gary would try to steal or strongarm $270 from me for a few minutes of his time and then to withhold and keep my jewelry upon demand is still considered theft. Would NEVER go into this store again. read more

Lovely people, lovely customer service, lovely place! My husband and I bought our wedding rings here, and couldn't have had a better experience. We'd been shopping online and decided to stop and see some rings in person- we happened to be in Los Gatos so popped in. We were on a tight budget (weddings are so expensive!) so expected this to be just a window shopping trip. Gary and his team were phenomenal. They took the time to show us many options and worked within our budget. They even managed to find a band that complimented my custom designed engagement ring perfectly- better than anything I'd found online at any price! Instead of just window shopping, we both walked out with wedding bands. Gary and his team were friendly and helpful and took their time as we looked at our options. They really know and love jewelry. They're also a hoot and full of great stories, and the two golden retrievers that hang out in the shop just add to the ambiance. I randomly stumbled upon this store while walking around, shopping in LG. The night before one of my necklace chains broke during a party, when someone came to hug me... I think it got caught in my hair and his sweater. Anyways, I walked in and they graciously helped me. I showed them my necklace. I knew it was such a simple fix if you have the right tools (which of course I didn't have). He took a look at it and he did it for free! Totally made my day. I am hoping they fixed it for free because they are super nice like that, and not because I came in with a cheapy necklace dressed like a bum! I have never bought anything from this store but I have been here quite a few times and have grown up in this town my whole life. I came in here with my boyfriend who is from out of town. He was dressed in a T-shirt and jeans And Gary treated him just like anyone else. I took a money clip in to get fixed. It cost me $120. It then broke less than two weeks after. It took me a while to bring it back since I live in a different town. They then charged me another $100 to fix their poor work. I filed a complaint with the BBB and they have not done anything to make it better. The owners are not "customer first" and are downright rude. They don't back their work and take advantage of their customers. No warranty on their work. Don't shop here! read more

My dad bought an anniversary gift ring for my mom from here, and my brother-in-law bought his engagement ring here - and we were treated very well even though his budget was small. Always walked by their windows and admired the sparkly things, so when "his" b-day came around this year, the kids & I went in to look at their stainless steel men's bracelets. Found one we liked, spent plenty on it and left happy. It broke almost immediately after he get it so we took it back for repair - that was back in February and i'm writing this review on July 21st - still don't have a bracelet!!!!!!!!! Finally told them I was tired of the "i don't knows" and the run around about where our bracelet was and told them we'd be in to pick up our refund. Owner said nope - you can have a store credit - thats it. I'm sorry to do this... but I am going to post a bad review of this jeweler. The people are nice and friendly. But they completely ruined my engagement ring. We brought it in because the stone was loose after only 3 months, and when they gave it back a week and half later, the stone was significantly more loose - it rattled when I moved the ring, there were actual wrinkles in the metal of the band and the worst part is that the setting had been filed away and changed to the point where it didn't look like the same ring. When we brought it back we asked them to replace the setting, but they casually said, oh, we'll rework it and make it right. They had no sense or urgency or apology and when we saw the ring 4 days later, it was worse. They completely destroyed the setting. Thanks goodness it wasn't an heirloom ring that wasn't replaceable! They finally said that they would order a new setting, but that it would take weeks. We decided that we wouldn't trust them to reset the stone or resize the ring and have take the stone elsewhere to replace the setting, at the Yellow Brick Roads expense. An engagement ring is an expensive and important item, with significant emotional weight, but they didn't respond to us anything like a vendor who cares about their customers, or about repeat business. read more

Carried out a terrible job of adding a link to a bracelet charm. The charm was covered in solder and was bent out if shape. When we talked to the owner Gary about making good the poor job he refused to deal with the problem and refused to return the charm. Several telephone calls to the Los Gatos police followed for advice on assisting with the return of the item. Rude, Nasty experience with owner and owners wife. I went here today to get my watchband sized, assuming it would be free of charge for repair shops around the area usually do it for free. The usual place I go to was closed, so I decided to go here. The short little man greeted me and begin assisting me. He did a good job and it took him less than 5 minutes. As he hands me the watch he says "that will be $20"..... $20?!?! For 3-4 minutes of work!? I had no choice but to pay it, this shop is just outrageous. Something I could have done myself. I recently went into this shop to see if they could repair a necklace. At first the gentleman, if you could call him that was very courteous. I discussed what I would like him to do and he said no problem, just fill out the envelope slip. I then asked when it would could be don't by and how much it would be, he told me and I said that I would not like to have it done as it was way to expensive to do. He asked me what I would like to pay and I told him. He then threw the necklace on the counter and flipped a gizzard. Is this customer service or what. I told him thank you for thought get it at me and left. Now, I am in the business of reselling antique and estate jewelry so I have my special people that I normally go to, but in saving time I thought I would check this business out. Well, I can say a couple of things, if I were to treat me clients as I was treated, I would be In a different business all together as I would never make a sale with the rude and insane treatment that was displayed to me. How do I begin, I was looking for earrings to match my necklace, I had my havanese dog who is a great dog to accompany me on my hunt. It was early morning about tenish or so. I always admired this stores window and decided to go in in hopes I would find those special earrings. Walked in turned left and to my surprise basically shocked, was literally attacked by two big golden retriever dogs. One jumped on my right arm,while the other one went bonkers in front of me where my poor dog was trying to get away in such a tight spot. I couldn't even reach him to pick him up because those dogs were in attack mode. When I raised him the dog jumped at him, while I was trying to push the one dog, off my arm. I finally yanked my dog by the leach that pulled his neck viciously to throw him on the counter for protection, meanwhile the one dog pulled himself up on his hind legs still trying to go after my dog, I yelled "get back, get down and believe it or not no one came to see what was going on. I Layed my head down on the counter and was abit in shock because ive never encountered this type of behavior from a golden retriever. Owner asked me, can I help you find something...I simply said I'm looking for a colored stone earring. I left and that was that. Late last night, I woke up and realized, this owner or salesperson never even asked how I was or the dog, or an apology. I realize those dogs were being protective....but I think that person owed me an apology big time.. I will never go in that store, and I will share this story with others. Tell you the truth, it should state someplace before you enter the store, there are two large dogs on the premise. This is a dog gone truth. read more

Well, I experienced first hand with both the owner, Gary, and the repair person, Kieth, out-right lying to my face and repeatedly. I was charged 75.00 to replace one french hook wire on my expensive silver and pearl earrings. I was told that they had to use the "laser" to do it so that was why it cost so much. Then that same wire broke twice, at the arch, where it was soldered, not completely replaced. Of course it would brake at such a compromised spot with a flimsy soldering! Insult to injury was to be ignored after approaching them face to face quite nicely, giving them a chance to redeem themselves. No such luck. Unbelievable, reprehensible, no excuse. They just went quiet. This was only part of the lying, only part of the rip-off. Too much to write. They lost a very nice, good customer that purchased several items. Never again will I shop in that store. Horrible attitudes and horrible business practices. I should have been given my 75.00 back. They will never get another penny out of me. read more
