basmati rice, butter chicken and garlic naan bread! SO TASTY
    Chloe C.

Food - ordered butter chicken, garlic naan bread and basmati rice! OMG i love that they have a TRULY mild option. some places even though it's mild it's still a little too spicy for me but the butter chicken was SOOO GOOD! Felt a little small portion wise but very tasty. Garlic naan bread was SOO good, lightly toasted and crispy and flavorful. The rice was also good but didn't feel anything special. Service - got seated fairly quickly. They have a QR code you can scan to order. My friend and I were able to order separately and we also paid in the same browser were ordered from so it made checkout easy. Ambiance - nice mom and pop shop. I live in the area and never knew about this but it's SO good. Can't wait to go back!

Order your food via QR code once you are seated, and enjoy the nicely decorated environment! Food came out after a while, however so delicious. Staff was very kind as well, constantly refilling our waters and provided recommendations when asked. I would love to try the biriyani next time! Thegoldenyak is a gem on Polk.

Delicious chili momo! Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. This place is open late on Polk Street, but still has a nice and relaxed atmosphere.

10/10 - Highly Recommend! What a hidden gem! Golden Yak is tucked away on Polk Street, but don't let its size fool you. The restaurant was spotless, warm, and incredibly welcoming from the moment we walked in. The customer service was exceptional. The staff was genuinely friendly, attentive, and accommodating. Since this was our first time visiting San Francisco, they even took the time to give us local tips, which made the experience even more memorable. Now for the food--it was absolutely amazing! Every single dish we ordered was delicious. The flavors and spices tasted incredibly authentic, and while I'm not Indian, this was by far some of the best Indian/Nepalese food I've ever had. The goat curry was outstanding--rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. And the chicken momo is an absolute must-try! These are not frozen dumplings--they're freshly made, and you can truly taste the difference. From the food to the hospitality, everything exceeded our expectations. If you're in San Francisco, do yourself a favor and stop by Golden Yak. You won't regret it! 10/10. Highly recommend!

We walked in with no expectations but the food spoke for itself. Unbelievably delicious food with timely and kind service. If you want a authentic, unique, but familiar meal, this is the spot

One of the best Nepali & Indin restaurant in San Francisco. We had momo, chicken tikka & chowmein. If you are lookng for indian & nepali restaurant in San Francisco, highly recommended the golden yak restaurant in San Franciso.

Shit on the sidewalk, which I have heard but figured people were just being judgemental, we ran into shit. Ran into street with a church, both sides were large groups of people unhoused, a couple were showing signs of Fentanyl use, hunched over an inable to walk. It was a lot. A man in front of the church was bent over, took off his pants and no underwear on. I was afraid he was going to shit. We ran the fuck out of there. Then down Market Street, at least 20 police cars drove faster than I have ever seen, where they must have turned all of those lights green and all others red so they could race to their destination. It was scary, i was worried because the Civic Center is nearby and we all know what people are capable of. Anyways...turned around to go home, starving, we saw an indoor mall with signs displaying Himalayan food! Yeah, so I went to wash my hands, and there was a shit trail on the floor from a toilet to a pile in the middle of the floor. The Mens restroom had a security guard, i asked, he said some crazy fight was going on. I relayed the information about the poop to pass along to janitorial services. Go to MoMa, avoid shithole area apparently called "Tenderloin." Yeah, tourist here, found this place, rated well, and it was a shit-sanwhich to get to. Maybe an Uber, if they will drive there! One of my friends went overboard and wanted to order 6 plates of momos. We negotiated down to 4 plates, which still felt like a lot in addition to the chicken biryani, chicken chow mein, egg fried rice, fish pekora, and naan that we ordered as well. We had to wait a while before the food started to arrive, which was not unexpected considering the size of our group and the amount of food that we ordered. I especially liked the chicken biryani and chicken chow mein. Some of the other dishes like the egg fried rice weren't quite to my liking, but that's why it was nice to have a good variety of dishes. Overall, I felt the food was priced affordably. The experience dining in was net positive and would recommend.

Regardless, Base Camp was awesome and a solid restaurant in the Mission. My friend and I arrived impromptu on a Monday night, surprised to see a crowded house; luckily, we snagged a table in the corner. We ordered the tandoori octopus, pork belly bhutwa, and goat curry which were all good. The tandoori octopus was fork tender and delicately spiced. The pork belly had vaguely Indian and vaguely Chinese flavor profiles, without lending itself to either side of the fulcrum. Kinda masala mixed with a bit of mala, which makes sense given Nepal's location. The goat curry was the only dish, albeit good, that didn't quite stand out for me. Service is also incredible. Every time a dish arrived, servers graciously explained how best to indulge, a welcomed gesture for this Nepalese novice. Would come again!

That said, I also tried one of the curry dishes my first time, and was thoroughly unimpressed. It was bland and I wish it had more spice and texture. I will definitely enjoy the noodle dishes again in the future though! Thanks also appreciate the cute interior, and the vibe is nice if I want to take friends out for a casual evening meal.

From the start we were impressed with the incredibly friendly service. To start, we got the fish pakora. For our entrees, we got the daal makhani and the mixed vegetable curry. Both entrees were very tasty, but our favorite was the daal makhani, which had a nice smoky flavor. We also got a side of garlic naan and Peshwari naan. Although I hadn't had Peshwari naan before and was skeptical about whether it would go with the meal with its sweet flavors, the filling of coconut, almonds, and sultanas was so delicious that it was my favorite part of the meal.
